Mrs. Torres was born Feb. 23, 1929, in Guanajuato, Mexico, to Ambrosio and Isabel.

Michael Eugene Rogers, 62, of Buckeye died July 23, 2014, at his home from heart failure.
Mr. Rogers was born Nov. 21, 1951, in Safford to Billie Horner and Norman Rogers.
He worked as a machinist.

Inez Kwiatkowski, 70, of Goodyear died July 16, 2014, in Goodyear.
Mrs. Kwiatkowski was born Oct. 15, 1943, in Long Beach, Calif., to Albert Lobdell and Elizabeth Goodnight.
Curtis Wayne DesCombes
Curtis Wayne DesCombes, 79, of Avondale died July 17, 2014.
Mr. DesCombes was born April 25, 1935, in Leeton, Mo., to Stanley Thomas and Eunice C. DesCombes.
He worked as a teacher at Agua Fria High School in Avondale for 35 years and coached baseball as head coach.
Under his leadership, the Agua Fria Owls baseball team won two championships and five regional titles.
He was inducted into both the Arizona Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame and the Arizona Coaches Hall of Fame.
Dewayne Leon Sanders
Dewayne Leon Sanders, 77, of Avondale, died July 11, 2014.
Mr. Sanders was born June 29, 1937, in Norman, Okla.
He worked for Swift Packing Plant and as an equipment delivery driver for Sun State before his retirement.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Karen Sanders; two daughters, Judy Ebarb and Eileen Hutchings; one son, Glen Sanders; one sister, Sarah Phipps; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Aug. 2 at the West End Baptist Church, 9101 W. Indian School Road, Phoenix.
Dorothy Beekman
Dorothy Olene Beekman, 89, of Buckeye died July 1, 2014, in Phoenix.
Mrs. Beekman was born April 23, 1925, in Antlers, Okla.
Ilene Erickson
Ilene Erickson, 92, of Goodyear died July 3, 2014, in Goodyear.
Mrs. Erickson was born April 28, 1922, in Caznovie, Wis.
She moved to Arizona in 2013.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth O. Erickson; and one daughter, Lesta Stevens.
She is survived by one daughter, Helen Wilson of Buckeye; two sons, Bobby Erickson of Denver and Tony Erickson of Chula Vista, Calif.; two sisters, Donna Faye King and Gayle Mears of Wisconsin; and 12 grandchildren.
Private funeral services were held.

Doris Louise Huff
Doris Louise Huff, 92, of Pinetop and formerly of Buckeye, died June 26, 2014, in Phoenix.
Mrs. Huff was born Dec. 2, 1921, in Los Angeles.
Melvin Talakte
Melvin “Mel” Talakte passed from this world on June 28, 2006 in St. George, Utah. He was born on Nov. 9, 1944 in the Village of Shungapovy on the Hopi reservation in northern Arizona.
Mel was married for 38 years to Alice Spencer Talakte and was blessed with a son, Jonathan. He lived in Page for more than 30 years. Mel was a member of the Grand Canyon American Legion, and he was a talented outdoorsman, marathoner and expert river runner. His happiest times were spent on the Colorado River with his wife, son and friends.
Mel is survived by his wife, Alice; son Jonathan (Stacy); grandson Colton Talakte of Tucson; brother Kenneth Talakte Jr. of Montana; five sisters: Bertha Bradley of Snowflake, Pearl (Bill) Evans of Snowflake, Bonnie (Bill Havens) Talakte of Phoenix, Christine (Dominic) Sarracino of Phoenix, and Catherine Talakte of Flagstaff. He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Dorothy Talakte of Snowflake and the Shungapovy and Kykotsmovi Villages on the Hopi Reservation; two sisters: Methalene and Tanya; and brother Virgil. He is remembered and loved by many friends, uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, and nephews, along with their families.
A viewing was held on June 30, 2006 at the Desert Memorial Funeral Home in Tuba City. Funeral services were held July 2, 2006 at Grand Canyon National Park.
Catherine Zilm
On June 28, 2006, Catherine Wilma Zilm (Nanny) started on her voyage home to her Heavenly Father. Nanny was born June 6, 1930 to Peter MacDonald and Sarah Jane Severance in Ponoka, Alberta, Canada.
Catherine married John William Livingstone, to whom three sons were born. They later divorced. After raising her sons to manhood she married Vernon Arlo Wilson; he died in 1997. In 1998 she married Harvey B. Zilm, who was her companion and husband till the time of her death.
Catherine became a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in December 1958. She was a faithful member and served in the various auxiliaries of the church. Harvey and Catherine served a full-time mission together at Salt Lake City. She enjoyed music and loved to play her piano.
Catherine was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters Florence and Evangeline. In addition to her husband, she leaves behind her sons John Peter (Linda) Livingstone of Orem, Utah, Terry Lee (Arnon) Livingstone of Glendale, Ariz. and Michael William (Jayne) Livingstone of Cardston, Alberta, Canada. Also left behind are two sisters: Patricia Jones of Ponoka, Alberta and Bessie Melenka of Edmonton, Alberta. Her posterity includes 20 grandchildren and 43 great grandchildren. She always was proud of her sons and her extended family.
Catherine enjoyed amateur radio and was licensed as N6EOQ. She was a member of the Quarter Century Wireless Association as well as several local “Ham” clubs. She always had a smile for everyone and could cheer anybody up. She enjoyed life and will be missed by all who knew her.
Her funeral was held at the Kaibab Stake Center in Kanab on Saturday, July 1. Interment will be in the Page City cemetery on July 6. Arrangements under the direction of Mosdell Mortuary.
C.S. Tornbom
C.S. (Bill) Tornbom, Jr., longtime resident of Big Water, passed away Aug. 7, 2004 at his daughter’s home in Tucson, just two months short of his 79th birthday.
Bill was born in Northwood, N.D. to C.S. (Stan) Tornbom Sr. and Gertrude Babinski on Oct. 9, 1925. He served in the U.S. Navy and Army during World War II receiving an honorable discharge from both. He served as an officer with the Fargo, N.D. police department, and was an accomplished pilot and stunt driver.
Bill moved to the Page and Big Water area in 1967 and worked at the Coppermine & Arizona Refining as a heavy equipment operator/truck driver. He also worked many years with Kocjan Construction and owned and operated Glen Canyon Welding & Salvage.
He served as Kane County Deputy Sheriff, the first Big Water Fire Chief, Kane County Search & Rescue, water master, and chief float builder for local 4-H kids.
Bill is preceded in death by wife Betty and leaves behind a sister, Phoebe (Bea) Steveson of Santa Maria, Calif.; brother David (Gloria) Tornbom of Tucson; six children: Terry (Carl) Brown of Montgomery, Tx; Jeff Tornbom of Big Water; Bruce Tornbom of Big Water; Phoebe (Cenobio) Sanchez of Tucson; Joe Williams of Kansas City, Mo.; and Mark Williams of Portland, Ore.; as well as eight grandchildren: Sandra, Lorie, Jami, Derek, Marcy, Becky, Waylon and Jesse; and nine great-grandchildren.
Service to be held on Thursday, Aug. 12 at Long Haul, in Big Water, at 12 p.m. Utah time. Directions: (435) 675-3709.
Maurine Cook
Harriett Maurine Jensen Cook, 95, died July 28, 2004 in St. George, Utah from causes incident to age. She was born June 23, 1909 in Richfield, Utah to Hans Curtis Jensen and Clara Harriett Hansen.
She grew up in Sevier County and attended local schools. The family moved to Provo when she was a teenager and she graduated from Provo High School. She went to work for a local telephone company as a supervisor. She married William D. Cook Dec. 22, 1928. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Oakland Temple. She lived in Bingham and Salt Lake City, Utah, and Eugene, Ore. After the passing of her husband, she moved to Fairview and Salina, Utah, and Page. She took great pride in graduating from the Institute of Religion at the University of Oregon in her 60s. She was a world traveler and made many new friends.
She was an active member of the LDS Church, serving in many positions in the Primary, Sunday School and Relief Society. Maurine and Bill loved collecting rocks and minerals, participating in volunteer fire department activities, and raising their daughters and their grandson, Rick.
Maurine is survived by her two daughters: Donna Lee Christensen and Kay Lou Wheeler, seven grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy Holt and Ida Lee Anderson. She was preceded in death by her husband Bill, her parents and her sisters Alice Kirkham, and Alta Lindquist.
Special thanks to the St. George Care and Rehabilitation Center for their loving and personalized care of our mother. Memorial services were held Aug. 3, 2004 at the Metcalf Mortuary, 300 W. St. George Boulevard, St. George, Utah at 10 a.m. Interment was at the Fairview City cemetery under the direction of Metcalf Mortuary, (435) 673-4221.
Scott Orrock
Scott Gottfredson Orrock passed away peacefully on Aug. 13, 2006. He was born on Aug. 23, 1926, to Joseph Henry and Fanny Letitia Gottfredson Orrock in Richfield, Utah, the eighth of nine children.
Scott received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education from Brigham Young University, where he was later employed for 20 years in the counseling department. This was the beginning of his lifelong love of all things “BYU,” particularly BYU sports. He married his sweetheart, Dawn Anderson, in the Salt Lake Temple June 8, 1949. Together they raised eight daughters and three sons while living in Provo, Utah; Tuba City; and Page.
While working in Page for the school district, Scott served on the City council and also as vice mayor. During Scott’s retirement in St. George, where they lived for an additional 10 years, Scott served on the board of foster care of Utah as well as Habitat for Humanity. He also was a substitute, teaching pre-school through high school. He loved the students and they loved him. Scott and Dawn lived in American Fork, Utah, for three years before recently moving to Springville. Scott always loved to use his hands and spent many hours making hundreds of loom hats, which he donated to humanitarian projects.
Scott served in World War II followed by a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to the Central Pacific Islands. He continued his love and association with the Polynesian people as BYU staff advisor to the Hawaiian Club. For many years, he directed tours to Hawaii and always loved visiting the islands and his dear friends. He was a high priest and served willingly in many capacities in the LDS church.
Scott put hobbies and personal interests second to those of his large family. He left the family with wonderful memories of camping, drive-in movies, road trips, and anything else that could be done on a budget. His later years were spent hosting and visiting cherished grandchildren.
Scott always said that his greatest achievement in life was marrying his beloved wife, Dawn, who survives him, along with the following children: Lana Putman, Lynne LeBaron (Kim), David Orrock (Julie), Susan White (Jon), Kathy Pruett (Dave), Carol Stephan (Dan), Jim Orrock, Diane Justice (Larry), Kristen Brittain (Shawn), Sandra Marquez (Byron), and Steven Orrock; 50 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and Lizzie, his loyal dog. He is also survived by one sister, Maxine Lorenson, of Richfield, Utah. Scott was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Krissy Pruett; two brothers; and five sisters.
Funeral services were held on Aug. 17, 2006, at the Kolob 9th Ward building in Springville, Utah. The family would like to thank the staff at UVRMC in Provo, Utah who took such tender care of a wonderful husband and father.
Lois Young
Lois Young, 90, passed away on Aug. 5, 2006 in Porter’s Nursing Home in St. George. She was born on April 6, 1916 in Stoneburg, Texas, to Fred and Bessie Berry.
Lois was a sister, wife, mother, and grandmother. She lived in Page since 1968. She was the peacekeeper of the family.
Preceding Lois in death was her husband, O.S. Tex Young, and son Doug Young. Survivors include son Ron Young; daughter Linda Nayman; four brothers: Clifton, Bobby, A.J., and Barry; sister Carla Barry; three grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at the First Baptist Church of Page on Aug. 10. Pastor Joel Hibbs presided over services.
Pearlie Mae Johnson
Pearlie Mae Bennett Johnson, age 84, resident of Page, went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, Oct. 21, 2006. She passed away in the St. George Regional Medical Center, St. George, Utah, after an extended illness. Pearlie was born Nov. 24, 1921, in Sparta, White County, Tenn., to Robert Payne and Mary Jane Little Bennett.
She married her love and best friend Roscoe William Johnson of Sparta on Dec. 23, 1944. They lived there for many years and always called Sparta their home while away at work in Michigan, New Mexico, Florida and Arizona. They celebrated 56 years of marriage.
Pearlie is most remembered for being “the best Grandma in the world,” always taking time to play games, teach, imagine and just talk and listen to her “babies.” She loved traveling and fishing with her husband across the USA; gardening and quilting. She was a life-long learner, always wanting to learn all she could, up until she left her earthly home.
Pearlie was a member most recently of the First Southern Baptist Church in Page. Throughout her life, she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible Study to many young children who loved her. She studied her Bible extensively and shared her love of her Lord and Savior with her family, friends and loved ones.
Pearlie is survived by two daughters: Wanda Jane (Arthur) Kirby of Page, and Delores Ann (Mike) Skeen of Antioch, Tenn.; grandchildren Candice Loren (Joe) Babb and Jonathan Wesley (Becky) Kirby of Page, and grandsons Michael Christopher and Christopher Nathaniel Skeen of Antioch; three great-grandchildren: Victoria Lauren Babb, Hunter William Kirby and Jaycee Morgan Kirby, all of Page; and sisters Alyce Laroy Crowell of Donelson, Tenn., and Mary Ellen Lull of Doyle, Tenn. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Kenneth Earl, John Dewey and James Robert Bennett; and sisters Zeda Pauline Hale, Louella Isabelle Weaver and Willie Payne Miller. Pearlie was blessed throughout her life by her many nieces, nephews, and their families that remain after her and by those who passed on before her.
Funeral services were held Oct. 28 in Sparta. Pearlie was laid to rest beside her husband, Roscoe, in the Lost Creek cemetery. Funeral arrangements locally were handled by Mosdell Mortuary of Kanab.
The family would like to thank the many family members, friends, neighbors, doctors, nurses, caregivers across the country and in Page for their precious prayers, concern, care and help given to a beloved mother and grandmother.
