Max Kleinertz, Jr.
Max Kleinertz, Jr. of Apache Junction,
passed away suddenly on April
2, 2006. Born in Point Pleasant, N.J.,
Mr. Kleinertz resided in the Apache
Junction area for 19 years. Mr.
Kleinertz is the son of the late Barbara
Bresnahan-Kleinertz and is survived
by his father Max Kleinertz,
Sr. of Apache Junction; sisters
Dianne Novakoski of Hamilton
Township, N.J., Teresa Petit of
Apache Junction; brother Arthur
Boos of Freehold, N.J; nephews
Donny & Steven Novakoski; several
aunts, uncles and cousin; 2 great
nieces; 1 great nephew; significant
other Jane Hedgpeth and her two
sons Michael & Matthew
Hedgepeth of Mesa; devoted
friends Mark Belan, Donny Honaker,
James Breehan and Dean Hilprecht.
Mr. Kleinertz was employed by Wild
West Steel for 7 years. Services to
be held at the Apache Junction
Mortuary. Private cremation at the
request of the family.

Wanda M. Sowden
Wanda M. Sowden, 78, of Queen
CXreek, passed away on Tuesday,
April 4, 2006. Mrs. Sowden, a homemaker,
was born in Eureka, Kansas
and is survived by her husband
Edward; daughters Carol and
Cynthia; sons John & Keith, 10
grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren;
and 5 great-great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at
Apache Junction Mortuary on April
10, 2006 from 4-7 pm. Graveside services
will be held on April 11, 2006
at the City of Mesa cemetery at
10:00 a.m. Apache Junction Mortuary
handled the arrangements.

Edna C. Wise
Edna C. Wise, 76, of Apache Junction,
passed away on Friday, March
31, 2006. Mrs. Wise, a assembler at
Motorola, was born in Pittsburgh,
Pennsylvania. She is survived by
her daughter Leah K. Woltor; son
Jack McCahn; sister Kathleen
Asting; brother Jack Becky; five
grandchildren and 7 grandchildren/
Apache Junction Mortuary handled
the arrangements.

Robert W. Chambers
Robert W. Chambers, 76, of Queen
Valley, passed away on Friday, April
14, 2006. Mr. Chambers, an agriculture
state director was born in Chicago,
Illinois. Mr. Chambers is survived
by his wife Maxine; daughter
Cynthia; son Bradley; four
grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
Services were private.
Memorials may be sent to givers
charity of choice in his name.
Apache Junction Mortuary
handled the arrangements.

Phillip L. Fisher
Phillip L. Fisher, 68, of Apache
Junction, peacefully passed from
this life on April 18, 2006, and is
home with his Savior, Jesus. He
was born in Traverse City, Michigan,
on July 5, 1937. Phillip is survived
by Kaye, his loving wife of
28 years, daughter Anne Doelle
(husband Kurt) and grandson
Wyatt of Mt. Clemens, Michigan
and his son Brian (wife Peggy) and
grandchildren Brian and Donna
Palmer of Apache Junction, Arizona.
Phillip is also survived by
his two brothers, Larry and Bruce,
of Traverse City, MI, their respective
families, and friends not only
in the USA but in many foreign
countries, who will miss his gentle,
giving spirit immensely. Phillip and
Kaye moved to Arizona on Christmas
Eve, 1983, to help plant a
church, of which Phillip was an elder.
He served in both church and
foreign ministries most of his life.
His wonderful gift for languages
allowed him to work as a technical
translator for 35 years; 25 of those
years he worked as an independent
contractor, becoming heavily involved
in Christian foreign mission
work, especially in the CIS (the
former Soviet Union), including
messianic fellowships. He also
founded the European Scripture
Outreach, taking personally
funded trips to Siberia and Ukraine
to minister and donate Christian literature
sharing the Gospel message.
Phillip partnered with many
established ministries, such as the
Bible for Everyone, Far East Broadcasting,
Russian Ministries and
Prison Ministries International, to
reach more remote areas of the CIS
with the Good News. He enjoyed
his position as a Church Ministries
Coordinator with CJF Ministries
(formerly known as The Christian
Jew Foundation). He honored God
by faithfully teaching Bible studies
in his home and adult Bible
classes in his church. A celebration
service of Phillip’s life will be
held at Skyline Fellowship, 10115
E. University, Mesa, AZ, on Monday,
April 24, 2006, at 7 PM. Donations
may be made to “Redemption
2000” (Russian Jewish mission
work) and mailed to CJF Ministries,
P O Box 345, San Antonio, Texas
78292-0345.

Friar Patrick Arnold Spain
Friar Patrick Arnold Spain, 86, a winter
visitor of Apache Junction and
a resident of Bismarck, North Dakota.
Friar Spain, a Catholic Priest,
was born in Sherwood, North Dakota.
Services to be held in Bismarck,
North Dakota. Apache Junction
Mortuary handled the arrangements.

Lawrence “Larry” L. Martin
Lawrence “Larry” L. Martin passed
away on March 26, 2006. Larry retired
from the Anaconda Company
in Montana after 30 years of service.
Larry and his wife Grace
moved to Apache Junction 30 years
ago where they bought property
and Larry built the house they still
live in. In 1980, Larry and Grace
started the first jam sessions in the
area and continued to have them
in their home for 23 years. He is
survived by his loving wife Grace,
daughters Judy Wyant of Anaconda,
Montana, and Joyce Coutts
of Redding, CA; 10 grandchildren;
18 great-grandchildren and 3 great great
grandchildren. Memorials
may be sent to the Cornerstone
Wesleyan Church, 201 N. Ironwood
Dr., Apache Junction, AZ
85220. Apache Junction Mortuary
handled the arrangements.

John F. Newingham
John F. Newingham, 78, of Curlew,
Washington, and a winter visitor
of E. Mesa, passed away on Thursday,
March 30, 2006. Mr.
Newingham, a mechanic, was born
in Poplar Bluff, Missouri and is survived
by his wife Mary; daughters
Peggy, Caroline, Joyce and Shelly;
sons Larry & Ronnie; brother
Hursel; 17 grandchildren and 23
great-grandchildren. A celebration
of life will be held at his daughters
home in Pumpkin Center, AZ.
Apache Junction Mortuary

Kathryn Verdick Rose
Kathryn Verdick Rose, of Apache
Junction, passed away on March
26, 2006. Kathryn is formally of
Toulon, Illinois and also lived on a
farm around W. Jersey, Illinois for
over 30 years. Kathryn was born
Feb. 26, 1916 and just celebrated
her 90th birthday. She was the oldest
of five children. She is survived
by daughter Ruth (Roger) Fussner;
brother Millard (Ruth) Rakestraw,
Jr. of McHenry, Illionis; grandchildren
Debra Fussner, Michael Fussner,
Mark Fussner; greatgrandchildren
Ryan Fussner, Elpaso, Wade, Jack and Joe
Fussner and Andy Coyne. Proceeding
her in death, 1st husband
of 47 years Ray Verdick, daughters
Rita Joan; and second husband
Howard (Bob) Rose. Arrangements
are private and she will be taken
back to Illinois. The family would
like to thank Hospice Care of Mesa.

Nancy Ann Williams Rudd
Nancy Ann Williams Rudd passed
away on March 23, 2006. Nancy
was born on May 8, 1941 in El
Monte, CA. She is the daughter of
Karl & Florence McBride Williams.
Nancy married Edward Thomas
Rudd in the Los Angeles Temple
on June 3, 1972 and was a lifelong
member of the Church of Jesus
Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Nancy
is survived by her husband Ed,
daughter Michele, three granddaughters
Shiloh, Grace and Savannah;
brothers Don (Judy), John
(Deceased) Ginger and Robert and
mother Florence McBride Williams
of Mesa, AZ. Funeral services were
held March 30, 2006 at the LDS
Galveston ward building, 2700 E.
Galveston St., Gilbert, AZ 85296.

William J. Lewis
William J. Lewis, 66, of Apache Junction,
Arizona, died Tuesday, July
19, 2005 in Mesa, Arizona. Mr.
Lewis, an electrician, was born in
Detroit, Michigan. Apache Junction
Mortuary handled the arrangements.

Genevieve McKenna
Genevieve McKenna, 87, of
Apache Junction, Arizona, died
Friday, July 15, 2005 in Mesa Arizona.
Mrs. McKenna, a homemaker,
was born in Athens, Ohio. Apache
Junction Mortuary handled the arrangements.

Patricia Musick
Patricia Musick, 58, of Apache
Junction, Arizona died Saturday,
July 9, 2005 in Mesa, Arizona. Ms.
Musick, a waitress, was born in
Texarkana, Texas. Apache Junction
Mortuary handled the arrangements.

Mary Nickel
Mary Nickel, 66, of Apache Junction
was reunited with the lord
peacefully while at her home on
July 21, 2005.
She was the second of four children
born to John and Maxine Summers
on October 17, 1938, in
Harlingen, Texas. As a teenager, she
met Jerry Nickel while roller skating.
They later married, had two children,
and moved to Wisconsin
where two more children were
born.
In May of 1962, the Nickel family
moved to Apache Junction where
Mary fell in love with the Superstition
Mountains and lived out the
rest of her life. She was very active
in her kids’ lives and was Mom to
many of their school friends. She
traveled the U.S., to Canada, Hawaii
and Mexico on vacations. At
one time, she had a pilot’s license
and went skydiving twice.
Mary spent numerous years volunteering
inside classrooms, on
playgrounds, as well as with the
Boys and Girls Club, and she sponsored
a child in another country.
Other than having fun with her
grandchildren, she immensely enjoyed
roller skating, chocolate, and
watching football and the Arizona
Diamondbacks play.
Mary wasn’t with us long enough,
but she lived her life to the fullest
and loved family and friends unconditionally.
She will be greatly
missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her brother
John Summers of Texas, sister
Jimmie Carey of Texas; children
Penny Nickel (Cobb) of A.J., Cindy
Nickel (Dan) of Ohio, Tim (Sandi)
Nickel of Gold Canyon, Kathy
(Keith) Schwiesow of A.J., six
grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family would
appreciate donations made to the
Boys and Girls Club of Apache
Junction or the Women’s Shelter.
There will be no funeral services
per Mary’s request. She wished to
be cremated and further arrangements
were privately made with her
family.
Please join her family in a Celebration
of Mary’s Life at Arizona Joe’s,
417 W. Winchester, off Hwy 88 in
Apache Junction on August 7,
2005, between 3pm - 7pm. Please
dress casually-Mary would have
appreciated that.
