Phyllis Colleen Barclay-Wilson Remington
1924 - 2003
Phyllis Colleen Barclay-Wilson Remington died April 10, 2003, at home following a valiant fight against cancer. She was born Aug. 13, 1924 in Bozeman, Mont., and was raised in Fountain, Colo.
During World War II she worked as a driver for the Ordnance Maintenance Service Command and the Signal Dept. She also served as a Red Cross Gray Lady, as well as at the Colorado Springs USO and Ft. Carson Army Hospital.
Phyllis married Bill Remington on Dec. 21, 1946 in Colorado Springs, Colo. They moved to Arizona in 1954, where they managed several ranches in Cochise County. She loved ranch life where family togetherness in work and play was special.
Throughout her life she'd rather "cowboy" than take on any indoor job. From childhood she was active in various sports, hunting, camping, fishing, and her favorite past-time, horseback riding. She even square-danced on horseback.
She bowled in city, county, state, and national bowling events, even as a senior, and loved playing golf. She was an avid sports fan and enjoyed traveling throughout the United States as well as to Mexico, South and Central America.
Making the most of those "indoor jobs" as librarian and secretary for the HS principal/district office in the Douglas School District for over 22 years, she constantly volunteered. She was Tri-Hi-Y sponsor as well as sponsor and chaperone for youth groups to include the Coachmen, Los Caballeros and the Noblemen Clubs. She frequently chaperoned the cheerleaders, dance squad and FFA.
Phyllis was also involved with the Cochise County Fair Board's horse racing, quarter horse shows and ropings. She was a timer/secretary for junior, high school, and college rodeos. She volunteered throughout her later years for the Grand Junction, Colo., Police Dept. and Cochise County Juvenile Court Services.
Phyllis was a member of the Sierra Vista United Methodist Church, Beta Sigma Phi Life Member (56 years), Sierra Vista Chapter Iota Master, Douglas Elks, Douglas BPO Order of the Does, Honorary Member of the Douglas FFA.
She was also honored recently for her service to the Cochise County Juvenile Justice Community Advisory Board, which was through appointment by the Presiding Juvenile Court Judge.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her dear mother, Bertie J. Lappin Wilson; beloved step-father, Kelly Wilson (Harold H.); father Samuel Barclay and brother Bill Barclay.
She is survived by her husband and great friend, Bill; son Cy (Lisa) Remington of Troup, Texas; daughter Colleen (Torrey) Shutes of Hereford, Ariz./Pine, Colo.; two grandchildren Camille and Cade Remington and two step-grandchildren, Kristin Nichols and Kelly (Peter) Kropik.
Phyllis requested that no services be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Arizona Council for CASA, Inc., Cochise Chapter, P.O. Box 4013, Sierra Vista, Ariz., 85636 (who support the unmet needs of abused and neglected children who are in the Court Appointed Advocate System in Arizona).
Arrangements have been entrusted to Jensen's Sierra Vista Mortuary.
Bryan Billie Bock
1937 - 2003
Bryan Billie Bock born in Mountain Park, Okla., Jan. 11, 1937, died in Tucson VA Hospital, June 16, 2003.
He is survived, by daughters Vicki Kolar and Teena Weymouth; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; stepdaughter, Sharon Tyler and her three children.
His former wife Colleen King lives in Willcox. She has four children, 11 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
He will be missed.
Hattie Allen
1909-2003
Hattie Allen, of Willcox and formerly of Tucson, died Aug. 17, 2003 at the age of 94.
She was born in Fort Worth, Texas on April 7, 1909 to Joseph and Augustine Matzner.
Hattie was a homemaker and has lived in Willcox for the last four years. She was a member of the Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Tucson and was involved in the Golden Hour and Marion Guild at the church. She also attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Willcox.
Survivors include her daughter Margaret (James) Tout of Willcox; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Her husband Alexander; her son James Clarke Allen; and a grandson Edwin Allen Tout, predeceased her.
Funeral Mass will be offered today, Wednesday, Aug. 20, at 10 a.m. at the Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 1946 E. Lee Street in Tucson, with burial to follow in the South Lawn cemetery in Tucson. Contributions may be made to the Charles Wm. Leighton, Jr. Hospice, 319 W. Grant, Willcox, Ariz, 85643.
Services are under the direction of Westlawn Chapel, Mortuary & Crematorium of Willcox.
Franklin V. Jordan
1913 - 2003
Franklin V. Jordan of Willcox died Sept. 25, 2003 at the age of 90. Mr. Jordan was born on Sept. 17, 1913 in Douglas, to Henderson V. and Josephine (Overacker) Jordan.
He was a lifelong resident of Cochise County, was a graduate of Douglas High School class of 1931, and lettered in baseball all four years of high school. Frank attended Arizona State College in Flagstaff (now N.A.U.) from 1932-36, and received a B.A. degree in 1936 with a major in history. He served in the US Army-Air Corp during WW II in England, France, Germany, Italy and Austria earning the rank of Staff Sergeant.
He was a dedicated educator. He taught in Douglas, Somerton, Pirtleville, and Willcox school systems with his longest tenure at Willcox High School from 1938 until 1967. He served as principle of Douglas Elementary School from 1967 until 1975, when he retired and moved back to Willcox and worked part-time for the superintendent of schools until 1978. During his career as an educator he also coached baseball, basketball and football and was a given an Honorary Lifetime Pass to any athletic contests by the Arizona Interscholastic Association in 1978. He had four yearbooks dedicated to him and was awarded many plaques and awards for service to education.
Frank was a former officer and member of the Rotary Club, Lions, V.F.W., American Legion and has been an Elk since 1936. He was a member of the Arizona Education Assoc., Arizona School Administrators, Arizona Coaches, Northern Arizona University Alumni and A.A.R.P. Frank had many interest and hobbies, to include athletics, reading, gardening, academic excellence and physical fitness. In 1997 he was Rex Allen Days Parade Marshall and on May 3, 2003 he was presented with the DAR Medal of Honor.
Mr. Jordan married Ethel Isaacks on May 24, 1941 in the Willcox Methodist Church She preceded him in death on April 11, 1993. His parents; a brother Colonel George B. Jordan; and a sister Atla Woodward also predeceased him.
Survivors include his wife Verna Chambers Jordan of Willcox; a daughter Karen Bond of Las Cruces, N.M.; grandchildren Lucia Bond (Treye) Konrath of Las Cruces, N.M. and Elson Bond of New York City, N.Y.; and his stepchildren, Kathleen (George) Poquette of Phoenix, and Ben Chambers of Chandler.
Visitation was held on Friday, Sept. 26, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Westlawn Chapel in Willcox with funeral services on Saturday, Sept. 27, at 10 a.m., at the Willcox United Methodist Church. Cremation followed at Westlawn Crematorium with burial of his cremains in Sunset cemetery at a later date. Services were under the direction of Westlawn Chapel, Mortuary and Crematorium of Willcox.
Raul H. Reyes
1949-2003
Raul H. Reyes of Los Angeles, Calif. died Nov. 27, 2003 in Tucson at the age of 54.
He was born in Eagle Pass, Texas on March 30, 1949 to Santana R. and Ernestina L. (Herrera) Reyes.
Raul was a graduate of Southwest Texas State University in 1971 in San Marcos, Texas. In 1975, he graduated from St. Mary's University in San Antonio, Texas and was a graduate of Ambassador College in Pasadena, Calif. in the early '80s. He was an attorney and teacher; and was currently a third-grade teacher at Manchester Elementary School in Los Angeles School District. He was also a minister for the Living Church of God.
Survivors include his parents Santana and Ernestina Reyes of Willcox; his sisters Mary R. (Jose) Silva of San Antonio, Texas, Teresa (Mike) Reyes-Spiceland of Carrollton, Texas, Marta R. (Tony) Carreon of Huachuca City, Maria Elma Reyes of San Antonio, Texas and Alma Reyes of Willcox; along with his brothers Santana (Ellen) Reyes, Jr. of Arlington, Texas, Jesus (Diana) of Marana, Ernesto of Huachuca City, Elfego of Tucson, and Elias of Newport News, Va. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews and many friends.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Dec. 2, at 2 p.m. at Westlawn Chapel. Burial took place at Sunset cemetery. Services were under the direction of Westlawn Chapel, Mortuary and Crematorium of Willcox.
Tommy Kinder, Sr.
1930- 2003
Tommy Kinder, Sr., of Willcox died June 30, 2003 in Tucson at the age of 72.
He was born in Malden, Mo., on July 4, 1930 to Art Alvin Kinder and Louva Jewell Burnett, and moved to Phoenix in 1945.
Tommy first worked in Cochise County in the late 1950s as Richardson & Kinder Custom Farming and in the late 1970s, it became Kinder & Son Agricultural Gypsum, in which he was still active all over Cochise County. On June 18, 1948 in Phoenix, he married June King.
He is survived by his wife June of Willcox; daughter Carol Stevens and son Tommy (Vicki) Kinder, Jr. both of Willcox. Also surviving are his brothers, Rupert (Louis) Kinder and Harold (Flonnie) Kinder, both of Phoenix; and his six grandchildren, Angela, Shaun, Teresa, Tracy, Matthew and Briza; along with his six great-grandchildren, Levi, Heather, Anthoni, Dylan, lzabell and Tyler.
His parents and one grandson, Basil Aycock, predeceased him.
Visitation was held on Friday, July 4, from 3 to 6 p.m. at Westlawn Chapel. Funeral services were Saturday, July 5, at 10 a.m. at Westlawn Chapel with burial following in Sunset cemetery.
Services were under the direction of Westlawn Chapel, Mortuary and Crematorium of Willcox.
Catherine W. Hildago
1925-2003
Catherine W. Hildago, of Willcox, died Sept. 27, 2003 in Willcox at the age of 78. She was born in Clarkdale on Aug. 2, 1925 to Edson and Clara (Porter) Whipple.
Catherine was a lifelong resident of Arizona, was raised in Mesa, graduated from Mesa High School and has many friends in and around Mesa. In 1954, she moved to Willcox from Scottsdale. She was a homemaker, a Charter Member of AFTOSA International Roundup and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Willcox 2nd Ward.
Survivors include her daughters Linda (Earl) Moser of Willcox and Brenda (Loren) Halvorson of Phoenix; sons Johnny (Francie) Hidalgo of Phoenix, Michael (Loraine) Hidalgo and Jeffrey (Mary) Hidalgo both of Tucson. Also surviving are her sisters Norma Abney, Florence (Malcolm) McGinnis and Clara Belle Jorgensen all of Mesa; and 16 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death was her husband Johnnie; a son Ronald Wayne; a brother Edson Whipple; and two sisters Margaret West and Emma Shill.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, Oct. 1, beginning at 10 a.m., at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Willcox Chapel, with family and friends gathering in the relief society room beginning at 9 a.m. Burial will follow in Sunset cemetery in Willcox.

Theodore E. Kurtz
1910-2003
Theodore E. Kurtz, of Pearce-Sunsites, died on July 3, 2003 at the age of 92.
He was born Nov. 23, 1910 in Dodge County, Wis., the seventh child of John and Augusta (Opperman) Kurtz. He was the youngest of four brothers, two sisters, two half-brothers and two half-sisters.
He graduated from Juneau, Wis., high school in 1928. Ted married Erna Bitter in 1934. She died in 1990. In 1994 Ted married Marjorie Parrott. She also preceded him in death in 2001.
During his working years, Ted had a variety of occupations, spending the last 25 years as a tool and die maker with John Deere in Horicon, Wis. In 1972 he retired, and Ted and Erna moved to Sunsites. He served on the Sunsites-Pearce Fire Department for 13 years, and as an EMT for Sunsites Ambulance for seven years. He was a member of the board of directors of the Sunsites Community Assoc., the Way Off Broadway Little Theatre, the Community of the Desert Arts, and the Sunsites Community Center. He was a member of the Horicon Lodge #87 IOOF odd fellows and a member of the Willcox United Methodist Church.
His daughter, Nancy Rivers, predeceased him in 2002.
He is survived by his son-in-law, the Reverend James Rivers of Wild Rose, Wis; a son, Terance Kurtz; two grandchildren, Caryl (Robert) Deutsch of Marshall, Wis., J. James (Claudia) Rivers of Flachslanden, Germany; three great-grandchildren, Raven Deutsch, Andrew Deutsch, and Maverick Rivers; three stepsons, Charles (Carol) Covert of Michigan, Thomas (Fely) Covert of Las Vegas, Nev., and Martin (Chris) Covert of Michigan; and step-grandchildren.
Memorial Services will be held at 11 a.m. on August 2, 2003 at the Community Church of Sunsites in Pearce. The family will greet visitors one hour before the service at the church.

Al Morvay, of Sunsites, died Sept. 29, 2003 at the age of 93. Service arrangements are pending at Westlawn Chapel, Mortuary and Crematorium.
Elmer L. Hall
1928 -2004
Elmer L. Hall, of Pearce-Sunizona, died Jan. 21, 2004 in Benson at the age of 76. He was born in Asheville, N.C. on Jan. 9, 1928 to Eston L. and Martha (Ledford) Hall.
Elmer served in the U.S. Army during WWII, was a truck driver for 48 years and a custodian for the First Baptist Church of Sunizona for two years.
Elmer came to the Sunizona area in 1987 from the state of Washington. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Sunizona.
Survivors include his son, Ronnie Mike Hall of Pasadena, Md.; and a daughter, Debbie Hall of Adairsville, Ga. Also surviving are five brothers - Jack Hall of Washington State, and Dale, Raymond, Jerry and Joe Hall, all of North Carolina. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, and his church family.
Preceding him in death was his parents and a son, David Lee Hall.
Funeral Services were held Saturday, Jan. 24, at 10 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Sunizona. Burial followed in Pearce cemetery. Contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Sunizona, 6431 E. Apache Dr., Pearce, Ariz., 85625.
