Erna Christine Valdez
Mrs. Erna Christine Valdez of Pirtleville, died October 10, 1998 at the Desert Samaritan Hospital in Mesa, Arizona.
Mrs. Valdez was born July 26, 1950 in Pirtleville. She lived in California for a time and returned to Pirtleville in 1980. She was a member of St. Bernard's Church.
Mrs. Valdez is survived by her husband, M. Alonzo Valdez of Pirtleville; sons, Alonzo (Jessica Valdez, Javier Valdez and Steve Valdez, all of Douglas; sisters, Lola Hardy, Dora Bencomo and Martha Cuen; brothers, Frank, Martin, Amador, Rito and Tony Echeribel. Also surviving are her granddaughters, Emily and Elizabeth Valdez.
A memorial rosary will be recited at 11 a.m. today followed by a memorial Mass at St. Bernard's Church in Pirtleville with Father Jim Hobert officiating.

John C. Armfield
John C. Armfield of Elfrida died October 18, 1998 at the Tucson Medical Center. Mr. Armfield, 65, was a retired college instructor and an avid horticulturist.
He is survived by his wife Mary; daughter Cheryl (Bobby) Quesada; sons, Rick (Marcela), Mike (Darla) and Tom (Lizette); grandchildren Stephanie, Jessie, John and Darl; great-grandchild Raquel; mother Evelyn of Colorado; brothers Bill (Bonnie), Neal (Marlene) and Alan; four step-children and nine step-grandchildren.
Memorial service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Elfrida.

Antonia Boneu Laborin
Mrs. Antonia Boneu Laborin, a former long-time Douglas resident passed away in Gilbert, Arizona on October 26, 1998.
Mrs. Laborin was born June 13, 1905 in Cananea, Sonora, Mexico. She was a Douglas resident from 1929 until 1994.
Mrs. Laborin was preceded in death by her husband, Dionicio Laborin in 1963.
She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church.
Surviving are her four daughters, Isabel (Ernie) Sanchez of San Diego, Ca., Carmen (Tom) Garcia of Oracle, AZ., Alicia (Victor) Canez of Bisbee, AZ and Rose (Edward) Madrid of Gilbert, AZ. Also surviving are seventeen grandchildren, thirty great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and family members.
A rosary service will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday at Brown Page Mortuary Chapel. A funeral Mass will be offered at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at Immaculate Conception Church with Father Luis N. Chavez officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Memorial Park.
Pallbearers who will serve are Raul Canez, Daniel Canez, Tom Garcia, Jr., Edward Madrid, Jr., Dionicio Madrid and Paul Sanchez.

Isabel Holbrook Catana
Isabel Holbrook Catana, 95, passed away November 15, 1998. born march 28, 1903 in Bisbee, Arizona t parents Isabel and Harry Holbrook. A private memorial service was held on November 21 in Douglas. Predeceased by parents; and brothers, James (Lola) and Harry J. (Bertilla); son-in-law Lloyd "Friday" Harris; most-loving husband, "Tommy" Catana. Survived by daughter Annabelle Harris; 3 grandchildren Michael (Margaret) Harris, Jeff (Jan) Harris, Pam Harris, David Oedekerk; five great-grandchildren, Michael, Coral, Jeff, Samantha, Lisa; one great-great-granddaughter, Morgan; niece Florence Holbrook (Bennie) Scott of Bisbee; nephew James (Cheryl) Holbrook; great-nieces/nephews, Karen (Jeff) Harrison, Debbie Vasquez, Paula Bishoff, Kenny (Nevie) Bishoff, Misty (Jaime) Curiel, Tammy, Jennifer, Cheryl, and James (Cheryl) Holbook. Also surviving her is life-time friend and confidant, Julia Ramirez of Los Angeles.
She was most proud to be a Holbrook, an Arizona pioneer family with descendants in Holbrook, Arizona. She lived in Arizona until moving to Los Angeles in 1943; she returned home to Arizona (Sedona) in September, 1998. To each of us "Isabel" was an anchor; she loved her family with passion her commitment to the loving and caring of us all was her life's greatest joy. Her life's second passion were the great authors; especially poetry. She taught her children and grandchildren as babes, and was still reciting so during a recent family visit.
"Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever."
Virgil E. Sellard
Mr. Virgil E. Sellard of Douglas passed away Tuesday, February 5, 2002 in Sierra Vista, Arizona.
Mr. Sellard was born November 17, 1935 in Holly, Colorado. He graduated from Holly Union High School in Holly, Colorado. He then married Valoris A. Ritchie on October 30, 1953 in Cortez, Colorado. He retired from Naiumann Hobbs in 2001.
Mr. Sellard is survived by his wife, Valoris Sellard; his daughters Virginia Brown (Jerry), Texas; Linda Wood (Dale), Wisconsin and son Ricky Sellard, Douglas and six grandchildren; brothers Homer Sellard, Colorado; Richard Sellard, Kansas, mother-in-law Bea Moyer of Colorado and several nieces, nephews, sisters-in law and brothers-in-law.
He was preceded in death by his parents Arvel and Harriet Sellard, brothers Hubert and Alvin and sister, Dorothy Jensen.
He was currently treasurer in the Douglas Veterans Memorial Committee, a member in good standing of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, a past State Vice President of Arizona Association for the South. He was Past Exalted Ruler of several Elks Lodges. He was Vice Chairman South Past Exalted Rulers Arizona Elks Association, a member of the Cochise Shrine, Mason Member of Mount Moriah Lodge No. 29, Honorary Life Member Boys and Girls Club, Secretary of Douglas Mens Bowling Association. He was citizen of the Year for Yuma County in 1976. He was a volunteer for the fireman and ambulance in Dove Creek, Colorado.
He was a man that kept people honest. He loved people, dancing, and the celebration of life to the fullest.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 9, 2002 2 p.m. at the Elks Lodge, 650 10th Street, Douglas Arizona with graveside and memorial service in Holly, Colorado.

Pedro U. Robles
Mr. Pedro U. Robles, a former Douglas resident, passed away October 1, 2001 in Tucson, Arizona.
He was born May 26, 1925 in Douglas, Arizona and had been a truck driver in California for 38 years until his retirement in 1984.
He and his wife Ermelinda returned to Arizona and resided in Tucson until his death. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII, member of the American Legion and the Knights of Columbus in Norwalk, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and two brothers.
Mr. Robles is survived by his wife of 58 years, Ermelinda Robles, two sons, Frank Robles of Riverside, Ca and Pete Robles of Buena Park, Ca; two sisters, Dolores Zavala and Christina Alvarado of Douglas; two brothers Jesus Robles of San Pedro, Ca and Andres Robles of Tucson.
He is also survived by four grandchildren and four great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. on Thursday, October 4, 2001 at St. Luke's Catholic Church. A funeral Mass will be offered at 10 a.m. on Friday, October 5, 2001 also at St. Luke's Church with Father Roger Bartlett officiating. Burial will follow at the veterans plot at Calvary Cemetery
with military graveside services by the American Legion and VFW.
A reception will be held at St. Luke's Hall after the serves for those wishing to pay their respects to the family.

Ofelia C. Grijalva
Ofelia C Grijalva passed away August 5, 2002 in Tucson, AZ. She was born August 24, 1920 in Sinaloa, Mexico.
She is survived by son Manuel C. (Lucy) Grijalva and their children Celina, Braulio, Saul and Terry; daughter Maria Ines Grijalva and her children Lizbeth, Mario, Ofelia and daughter Maria Eugenia (Jesus) Robles and their children Jesus, Liza, Rocio.
She is also survived by seventeen great-grandchildren.
Rosary will be held Wednesday, August 7, 2002 at 8:00 p.m. at Funeraria Barragan. Mass will be offered Thursday, August 8 at 3 p.m. at Iglesia Nuestra Senora de Guadalupe.

Kathryn Musette Grantham
Kathryn Musette Grantham, 56, passed away on February 14, 2003 at the Grantham Ranch near Arivaca, Arizona.
Known to her family and friends as Kay or Katy, she was a source of joy to all throughout her life.
Kay was born in Tucson, Arizona. Her family moved from Nogales, Arizona to Douglas, Arizona in 1947.
Kay attended the Vocational Center in Douglas which was under the direction of Gary Clark. In 1979 Kay moved with her parents to the ranch near Arivaca.
Kay was preceded in death by her father, R.E. "Bob" Grantham. She is survived by her mother, Katherine Noon Grantham, a sister, Jeanie DeVore (Jim), a brother, Bob, an uncle, Charlie Grantham (Sally), an aunt, Irma Logan (Bob) and numerous nieces and nephews.
A private ceremony was held at the ranch. The family requests donations to the Douglas Vocational Center in lieu of flowers.
Hector Mota
Hector Mota passed away July 23, 2002 in Riverside, CA. He was born December 17, 1947.
He is preceded in death by his father Manuel Mota and sister Hilda Mota. He was followed in death by his mother Hortencia.
He is survived by his beloved wife Janet; daughters, Renee Mota, of Oklahoma and Sonia Mota, of Oklahoma; sisters, Frances Fulton (Larry) of CA, Sylvia Gutierrez (Guillermo) of Douglas, Alma Acuna (Alfred) of CA., Martha Rivera (Humberto) of CA.
He is also survived by one grandchild, and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be August 7, 2002 at 10 a.m. at Desert Shadows Funeral Home with Pastor Jorge Herrera officiating.
His final resting place will be at Calvary Cemetery.

Cecilia Anna Treiber
Cecilia Anna Treiber, long time resident of Douglas, has gone to join our heavenly father. Cecilia (Celie) passed away in her home in Tucson, Arizona on November 21, 2002.
Cecilia was born on March 28, 1918 in Phoenix, Arizona.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon J. Treiber.
The couple owned and operated Vernon's Clothing Store in Douglas from 1947 until 1982. Cecilia was also a respected member of St. Luke's Catholic Church here in Douglas.
Cecilia is survived by her two sons; Tom Treiber of Sunsites, Arizona, Jerry Treiber of Huachuca City, Arizona; daughter Patricia Berech of Paradise Valley, Arizona.
She is also survived by her 15 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.
A Rosary will be recited at 10 a.m. on Saturday, November 23, 2002 at St. Luke's Catholic church with a Funeral Mass to be offered at 10:30 a.m. also on Saturday with Father Roger Bartlett officiating. Internment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.

A memorial Mass for long-time Douglas resident Josephine Shaya will be held at St. Luke's Catholic Church, 15th Street in Douglas on Saturday, March 1, at 11:00 a.m. Light refreshments will be served immediately following in the church hall.

Luz Maria Jaquez
Luz M. Jaquez of Douglas passed away ay 31, 2003 in Douglas, Arizona.
Mrs. Jaquez was born July 21, 1967 in Agua Prieta, Sonora, Mexico.
She has been a local resident for the past 26 years and was a homemaker and took care of her four children. She was preceded in death by her father, Francisco G. Chacon and brother, Francisco Javier Chacon.
She is survived by her mother, Maria de la Luz Avalos from Agua Prieta, Sonora; two daughters Bernadette Chacon and Bridgette Jaquez; her two sons Martin Jaquez and Arturo Jaquez; longtime friend Javier Moran Chacon. Her sisters Amelia Barredo from Agua Prieta, Sonora, Rosa Elena Chacon and Monica A. Rodriguez from Tucson, Arizona, Ramona Clark and Maria de Jesus Avalos from Agua Prieta, Sonora. Her two brothers, Julio Cesar Avalos and Erasmo Avalos from Agua Prieta, Sonora.
A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 on Wednesday, June 4, 2003 at the Brown Page Mortuary Chapel. A funeral Mass will be offered at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 5, 2003 at Immaculate Conception Church with Father Marco Antonio Basulto officiating. Cremation will follow the Mass.

MARTIN A. SANDERS
10/9/14 - 7/18/03
Surrounded by his family, Martin Alma Sanders passed on to his Heavenly Father July 18, 2003 at Manor Care in Reno, Nevada at the age of 88 years. He regrettably succumbed to the complications of prostate cancer.
Born on October 9, 1914 in Douglas, Arizona to Rachel Rebecca and Thomas Alma Sanders, Martin spent his athletic younger years in southern Arizona with his sister Anona and brothers Tom and Frank. He married Nada Gayle Taylor on August 14, 1937 in Tucson and his employment took them to Cananea, Mexico and then Douglas, Bisbee, Tucson, Las Vegas and eventually here to Reno for the last 37 years.
Martin was an active member of the Elks Lodge for over 66 years and retired in 1979 from the Sierra Lincoln Mercury auto dealership. An avid golfer, Martin also enjoyed hunting and fishing with his sons. He and Nada traveled to numerous vacation spots outside the country.
Martin is survived by Nada, his wife of 66 years; sons Ronald and Robert, both of Reno, and Stephen of Portland OR, and their wives, Diane, Sandra and Dotti. He was loved by his 9 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren, along with numerous nieces and nephews. His legacy will be his devotion to family and friends, clever wit, loyalty and everlasting love to everyone.
A Memorial Service to celebrate his life will be held on Saturday, July 26 at 2pm at the Mountain View Mortuary, 425 Stoker Ave., Reno, NV. Inurnment will be at Mountain View Crematorium.
