Mae L. Huizar
Mae L. Huizar, born July 5, 1921 in Bluffs, Illinois and died September 20, 1998 at Little Company of Mary Hospital Torrance, California.
She is survived by her husband Ted Huizar of Bluffs, Illinois; three brothers Howard Six, Harold Six and bud Parker of Bluffs, Illinois; two aunts, Bessie Gilman and Ruth Reichert and two uncles, Howard Gilman and Harold Reichert, plus several cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father Fred Six and mother Ethel Gilman and stepmother Grace Six.
Services were held at St. Anthony of Padua, Gardena, California Friday, September 25, 1998.
The ashes of Mrs. Mae Huizar will be buried at Douglas, Arizona where graveside services will be held Saturday, October 24 at 11:30 a.m. at Calvary Cemetery
veteran's area.
Dorothy B. Huber
Mrs. Dorothy B. Huber died October 20, 1998 at the Southeast Arizona Medical Center after a long illness.
Dorothy was born May 24, 1920 in Douglas, Arizona. She graduated from Douglas High School in 1938 and Arizona State Teachers College at Tempe (ASU) in 1942.
She worked for the Phelps Dodge Corporation, Western Division Office in the purchasing and auditing department for 18 years. In 1960 she accepted a teaching position in the Douglas School System and had taught for 22 years until she retired in 1982. Mrs. Huber was a member of St. Luke's Church.
Dorothy is survived by her husband of 49 years, Paul Huber, Jr.; six children, Kathy Huber, Pat (Gary) Gunsolley, Christy (David) Elzy, Marian Huber, Cecelia (Bill) Risius and Joe Huber; sister, Mary Dixon; brother, James Benson. She is also survived by six grandchildren, David Elzy, Jr., Annette (Ray) Strange, Monique Elzy, James Huber, Amber and Derek Risius; two great-grandchildren, Katlyn Vass and Breanna Strange. Also surviving are 6 nieces and nephews.
A rosary service will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday at St. Luke's Church. A funeral Mass will be offered at 9 a.m. on Saturday at St. Luke's Church with Father Jim Hobert officiating.
Burial will follow at Calvary memorial Park.
Pallbearers who will serve are David Elzy, Sr., David Elzy, Jr., Gary Gunsolley, William Risius, James Huber and Robert N. Benson. Honorary pallbearers are George Brady, Harry Ames, Joe Borane, Jimmy Benson, Johnny Benson and Jack Guthrie.

Rosa Figueroa "Nana Pink" Bojorquez
Mrs. Rosa "Nana Pink" Bojorquez of Douglas died October 20, 1998 at the Southeast Arizona Medical Center.
Mrs. Bojorquez was born July 2, 1909 in Moctezuma, Sonora, Mexico.
She has been a Douglas resident since 1926 and was a member of Immaculate Conception Church. Mrs. Bojorquez was preceded in death by her husband, Jesus R. Bojorquez in 1965 and a son, Rene Bojorquez in 1997.
Surviving are her two daughters, Betty (Rudy) Ruiz and Barbara (Ray) Lopez of Douglas; sisters, Maria Cruz Moreno of El Paso, Texas, Leonor Teran of Tucson and Blanca Figueroa of Moctezuma, Sonora; brothers, Tony, Angel and Francisco Figueroa of Los Angeles, Ca. Also surviving are her 9 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren.
A rosary service will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday at Brown Page Mortuary Chapel.
A funeral Mass will be offered at 11 a.m. on Friday at Immaculate conception Church with Father Luis N. Chavez officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Memorial park. Pallbearers who will serve are Rudy Ruiz, Sr., Rudy Ruiz, Jr., Mark Ruiz, Ray Lopez, Jesus Ochoa and Hector Salcido, Jr.

Amelia Maldonado Torres
Miss Amelia Maldonado Torres of Douglas died October 19, 1998, at the Southeast Arizona Medical Center.
Miss Torres was born December 19, 1913, in Banamichi, Sonora, Mexico. She came to Douglas in 1927 with her mother, brothers and sisters.
She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church and the Vela Perpetua.
Amelia was a beautiful daughter, wonderful sister, great sister-in-law, terrific aunt and friend. She will be greatly missed by all.
She is survived by her niece and companion, Marie Schuster; sister-in-law, Alicia Torres; nephews and nieces, Joe and Cecilia Greth, Ricardo and Mary Ann Greth, Gloria Torres, Irene and Manuel Robles, Patricia and Jose Vasquez, Lillian and Juan Pacheco, Arturo and Brenda Torres, Manuel Ernesto Torres, Adalberto Torres, Vicente and Gloria Torres, Delfina and Edward Ornelas, Zonia and David Morales, Sylvia and Albert Olmos and Patricia and Gilbert Flores. She had 37 great-nieces and nephews and 27 great-great nieces and nephews.
A rosary service will be held at 7 p.m. today at Brown Page Mortuary Chapel. A funeral Mass will be offered at 9 a.m. on Wednesday at St. Luke's Church with Father Jim Hobert officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
Pallbearers who will serve are Joe Greth, Ricardo Greth, Manuel Ernesto Torres, Adlaberto Torres, Vicente Torres and Arturo Torres, Jr.
Honorary pallbearers are her great nephews.
Adelina Alvarez Rojo
Adelina Alvarez Rojo, 82, passed away at her home in Bisbee, Arizona on Thursday, October 15, 1998. Mrs. Rojo was born in Bisbee, Arizona on February 3, 1916 to Perfecto Alvarez and Micela Rivera Alvarez. She was a graduate of Bisbee High School. She worked for the WPA as a social worker and for JCPenney until she marred in 1940. Adelina was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church.
Survivors include her husband Ernesto O. Rojo of Bisbee; 2 daughters and sons-in-law Susan and Carlos Munoz of Tempe, Linda and Steve Marshall of Bisbee; one brother Tony Alvarez of Safford; one sister Elodia Dudley of California; 4 grandchildren, Cecila Munoz, Christina and husband Mario Gastelum, Chris Marshall and Alexis Marshall; 3 great-grandchildren Zevin Jackson, Brianna Munoz and Kalika Jackson.
Rosary will be recited on Monday, October 19 at 7 p.m. at St. Patrick Church. Mass will be said on Tuesday, October 20 at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick Church. Father Stanley Nadolny will officiate. Burial will be private at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Adelina's memory to the St. Patrick Building Fund.

Phyllis D. Wetzel
Mrs. Phyllis D. Wetzel of McNeal passed away on October 13, 1998 at the Tucson Medical Center.
Mrs. Wetzel was born on September 10, 1926 in Dayton, Ohio. She was a member of the Double Adobe Women's Society.
Mrs. Wetzel is survived by her daughters, Darlen (Roy) Striegel of Santa Ana, Ca, Diane Nelson of corona, Ca., Debra Myre of Inglewood, Ca., and Delyn (Brad) Eggers of McNeal, AZ.; son, Donald (Sue) Wetzel of Anaheim, Ca. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 17, 1998 at Brown Page Mortuary Chapel with Reverend Shane Herman officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.

Porfirio B. 'Pilo' Romero
Mr. Porfirio B. "Pilo" Romero, a former longtime Douglas resident, passed away at his home in Sahuarita, Arizona on October 13, 1998.
Pilo was born September 16, 1916 in San Ventura, Chihuahua, Mexico. He has been an Arizona resident for the past 81 years. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII receiving his honorable discharge October 3, 1945. He worked for over 33 years for Arizona Public Service, having retired in 1981. While in Douglas he was a member of St. Luke's Church and the American Legion.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Celia Leyva; brothers, Andres and Thomas Romero and cousin Gregory B. Romero.
Surviving is his wife Lily May Romero of Sahuarita; daughters, Brenda Kay (Efrain) Martinez of Tucson, Dolores Granillo of Torrance, CA, Molly Jo Ann (Felix) Magallanes of Sahuarita and Sally Ann Castillo of Lomita, CA; sister, Margarita B. Romero of Douglas; brothers, Gene of Tucson and Frank and Fausto Romero of Douglas. Also surviving are his 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
A rosary service will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday at Brown Page Mortuary Chapel. A funeral Mass will be offered at 9 a.m. on Saturday at St. Luke's Church with Father Jim Hobert officiating.
Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery
with military graveside services by the American Legion and VFW.

James Donald Hand
James Donald Hand of Tucson, died October 12, 1998 at his home.
James was born July 29, 1962 in Phoenix, Arizona. He attended Douglas schools and attended Cochise College where he received his AA degree. He also attended Northern Arizona University and Pima Community College.
Jim worked for the Forest Service. He enjoyed school. He was a good uncle and especially nice to his niece Stephanie (Pumpkin) and his nephew Curtis (Fill Bill). He was loved and will be greatly missed by all his family.
He is survived by his parents, Paul and Patricia Hand of Douglas; sister, Kimberly (Glenn) Ray of San Diego; brothers Mike (Holly) Hand of Las Vegas and David (Janet) Hand of Tucson; grandmother; Betty Hand of Spokane, Washington; nieces and nephews, Stephanie, Curtis, Taylor and Kelsy Hand and Tyler and Kyle Ray.
Following his request, he will be cremated and a private family service will be held.

Ricardo Romero
Mr. Ricardo Romero of Douglas died October 11, 1998.
He was born June 17, 1956 in Agua Prieta, Sonora, Mexico. He has been a 30 year resident of Arizona and served in the U.S. Army.
Mr. Romero is survived by his mother, Catalina Romero of Douglas sisters, Lorena Grijalva, Cathy Herrera, Ramona Chavarria, Claudia Romero and Roxanne Romero; brothers, Rafael, Ruben and Francisco Romero.
A rosary service will be held today at 7 p.m. at Brown Page Mortuary Chapel. A funeral Mass will be offered at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday at Immaculate Conception Church with Father Luis N. Chavez officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.

William 'Bill' Kambitch
Bill Kambitch passed away on the family ranch near Rodeo on October 7, 1998. He was born September 12, 1905 in Douglas, Arizona.
His early childhood was spent on the family farm/ranch homesteaded by his father near Pearce in Sulphur Springs Valley. He attended school at Light in the mid-1920s and also worked at the mines in Bisbee. After working in the mines, he worked for the U.S. Forest Service (intermittently for approximately 26 years.) He drove a tractor for the El Paso Natural Gas pipeline installation from southern Arizona to Phoenix; he worked as a construction worker and supervisor during the construction of Fort Huachuca and Camp Kerns near Salt Lake City, Utah; and he worked as an officer at the Arizona Motor Vehicle Checking Station at Apache, Arizona.
He met and married Margaret Williams on December 22, 1930. She was his active partner until her death on August 17, 1997. In late 1931, the Kambitchs moved from New Mexico to Sulphur Springs Valley and lived on a small farm near his family's holdings and tried dry land farming.
About 1934, the young couple and their daughter relocated to a small ranch (Skull Canyon) located in the Peloncillo Mountains near the Arizona-New Mexico Border. Late in the 1940s, they added a general mercantile store in Rodeo, N.M. which they operated until the 1960s when they sold the store and moved to the present ranch headquarters approximately six miles south of Rodeo.
He is survived by his daughter, Betty Cloudt; his grandson, Bill Cloudt and his wife Nancy of the family ranch; and great-granddaughters, Shawana Plumb of Casa Grande and Alma Cloudt, a student a New Mexico State University of Las Cruces.
In accordance with his wishes, his remains will be cremated.
A memorial service will be held at the Rodeo, New Mexico Community Center on October 20, 1998, at noon, New Mexico time.

Victor Medina
Victor Medina, 28, died in an automobile accident in Mexico on Oct. 2. Funeral services and burial were last weekend in Cumpas, Sonora, Mexico.
A memorial Mass is scheduled for 5 p.m. Sunday at Immaculate Conception Church in Douglas.
Victor Medina was born Nov. 29, 1969, in Cumpas, Sonora, Mexico.
He immigrated to the United States and graduated from Douglas High School in 1992. He had been employed by the Hotel Gadsden for the past 11 years.
Survivors include his parents, Reginaldo Medina and Josefina Pereyda, sisters Josefina and Maria Auxiliadora, Alma, Sandra and Rejina; brothers Martin, Anelardo and Ramon; and numerous aunts and uncles and cousins, some of whom lived in Douglas.
Rebecca G. Arvizu
Mrs. Rebecca G. Arvizu, longtime Douglas resident, passed away November 24, 1998 at the Tucson Medical Center.
Mrs. Arvizu was born July 18, 1913 in Fronteras, Sonora, Mexico. She has been a local resident for the past 81 years. She was a member of St. Bernard's Church in Pirtleville.
Mrs. Arvizu is survived by her husband, Ernesto G. Arvizu of Douglas; daughters, Mari (Victor) Meza, Jr., Rose (Luis) Leyva and Blanca (Martin) Quintero, all of Tucson; son Bobby (Susan) Arvizu of Washington; sister, Josefina Grijalva of Douglas. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
A rosary service will be held at 7 p.m. today at St. Bernard's Church in Pirtleville. A funeral Mass will be offered at 10 a.m. also at St. Bernard's Church with Father Jim Hobert officiating. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery
in Pirtleville.
Pallbearers who will serve are Luigi Leyva, Xavier Leyva, Victor Meza III, Martin Quintero, Jr., Robbie Arvizu and Gene Arvizu.

Romula Teran de Montano
Romula Teran de Montano passed away Friday, Nov. 20, 1998 in Moctezuma, Sonora. She was born on Feb. 3, 1903 in Moctezuma. She was preceded in death by husband Manuel Y. Montano and daughter Norma Montano Moreno and granddaughter Norma Moreno.
She is survived by daughters Beatriz Montano (Mario), Moctezuma, Sonora; Josefa Ambrosino (August) Long Beach, California; and sons Manuel Montano (Cecilia) Nogales, Arizona; and Humberto Montano (Elda) Douglas, Arizona. Also survived by 23 grandchildren, 55 great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren.
Her family came to Douglas in 1913 and moved to Los Angeles in 1916 where they resided until 1921. At that time the family moved back to Moctezuma. In 1944 she moved back to Douglas where she was employed at the Army Air Force Base. She had been a Douglas resident since then except for a few years spent in Tucson and Moctezuma. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church.
A funeral Mass was said for her in Moctezuma on Saturday, Nov. 21, 1998 and burial followed at the Moctezuma cemetery.
John Ivan Hunt
John Ivan Hunt, 92, died November 17 in Pine, Arizona.
He was born August 20, 1906 in Pine. Mr. Hunt was a cattleman and also worked in the mining industry for 37 years with the Phelps Dodge Company in Douglas and Bisbee.
He is survived by his wife Martha of Pine; sons, John of Scottsdale and Mickey of pine; brothers Alma of Payson and Arthur of Idaho; a sister Verdell Dowell of Flagstaff; step-sons Robert Glaspy of Colorado and Roger Glaspy of Oregon; a step-daughter, Shirley Ann Hefner of Colorado; 4 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife Hattie in 1978.
Services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday Nov. 21 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Pine with visitation at the church at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
