Emilia G. Zamora
Mrs. Emilia G. Zamora of Elfrida, passed away at her home October 1, 1998.
Mrs. Zamora was born April 30, 1933 in Cumpas, Sonora, Mexico.
At the age of 18, she moved to the Agua Prieta-Douglas area where she met Manuel, her husband of 44 years. They were married in Douglas in 1954 where they lived for many years before permanently relocating to Elfrida. Together, they raised a family of 11 children. Emilia was an active member of St. Francis Catholic Church. She retired from the Elfrida School District.
She is survived by her husband, Manuel Zamora of Elfrida; children, Manuel (Linda) Zamora of Phoenix, George (Lisa) Zamora of Tucson, Brenda (Eddie) Silvas of Tucson, Danny (Lorie) of Elfrida, Luis (Kirsten) of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Polly Zamora of Tucson, Raul (Gina) Zamora of Sunsites, Alfredo (Sabrina) of Elfrida, Copy Zamora of Tucson, Rebecca (Trent) Noble of Elfrida and Miki Zamora of Elfrida; sisters, Petra de Guzman, Guillermina de Montano, Juana Robles, Evangelina de Gonzales and Isabel Gonzales; brothers, Jesus Gonzales, Roberto Gonzales and Reyes Gonzales. Also surviving are 18 grandchildren.
A rosary service will be held at 7 p.m. today at St. Francis Church in Elfrida. A funeral Mass will be offered at 10 a.m. on Saturday also at St. Francis Church with Msgr. John Oliver officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
Pallbearers who will serve are Manuel, George, Danny, Luis, Raul, Alfredo and Copy Zamora.
Honorary pallbearers are Eddie Silvas, Trent Noble, Daniel, David and Andrew Zamora, Ed Currey, Drew Harrison and Francisco Gonzales.
Visitation will be held at Brown Page Mortuary Chapel from noon until 5 p.m. and then at St. Francis Church in Elfrida prior to the rosary.
While small in stature, Emilia was remarkable for her boundless energy and strength. She always worked tirelessly to help support her family, church and community. She will be remembered as a selfless woman who showed love through action, always putting the needs of others before her own. As a gifted cook, Emilia had the amazing ability to produce delicious meals for any who stopped by her home. Known by all her family as "Nana," she found great joy in her grandchildren and in spending time with her brothers and sisters. She enjoyed gardening with a special love for roses.
To the end of her life, her deep devotion and faith in God was an inspiration to all who knew her. Through her family, she wants to thank everyone for their generosity and prayers. She will be greatly missed.

William 'Bill' Floyd Loving
William Floyd Loving ("Bill") a longtime resident of Douglas, AZ, passed away on September 27, 1998. A private graveside memorial was held following interment in Calvary Cemetery.
Bill was born to John and Elizabeth Loving on September 6, 1906 in Oaxaca, Sonora, Mexico, the youngest of ten children. While the family was in Mexico, his father and several siblings passed away. The rest of the family later moved to Douglas as a result of the Mexican revolution, arriving in May, 1911.
Bill was educated in Douglas public schools. During his youth he delivered papers for the Douglas Daily Dispatch, caddied at the Douglas County Club, and worked in the flour mills in Agua Prieta, Mexico, to augment the family's income. Later he went to work for his brother-in-law, H.C. Schwantes, at the B&P Palace. He eventually became the sole owner and managed the business until his retirement in 1974.
During WWII, Bill served in the U.S. Army, from which he received an honorable discharge.
On December 25, 1934, Bill married Flora Belle Woodard of Cedar Grove, Tennessee, in a simple ceremony in Tucson. They settled in Douglas where they adopted two children, Janis Kay in 1947 and William Alan in 1952.
He loved horses and owned several during different periods of his life. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking and reading.
Bill Loving is survived by his wife, Flora Belle Loving, son William A. Loving, daughter Janis K. Shah, and two granddaughters, Nisha and Rajika Shah as well as several nieces and nephews.
Grayden Bear Jr.
MANDAREE, N.D. Grayden Bear Jr., 30, of Mandaree, died Saturday, April 10, 1999, as a result of a car accident near Mandaree.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 15, at the Mandaree High School. The Rev. Spencer Wilkinson will officiate and interment will be at the Independence Cemetery
in Mandaree.
A wake will begin at 5 p.m. today at the Mandaree High School.

Sam Sortland
WILLISTON, N.D. Sam Sortland, 84, of Williston, former longtime Divide County resident, died Tuesday, April 13, 1999, at Mercy Medical Center in Williston.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 17, at Concordia Lutheran Church in Crosby. The Rev. Ron Dahle will officiate and interment will follow at the church cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Stakston-Martin Funeral Home in Crosby.
Orpha Stefonowicz
WILDROSE, N.D. Orpha Stefonowicz, 84, a longtime Wildrose community resident, passed away Monday, April 12, 1999, at Mercy Medical Center in Williston.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, April 16, at the Grace Lutheran Church in Wildrose. The Rev. Carol Weist will officiate and interment will follow at the Wildrose Cemetery.

Barbara Swenson
WILLISTON, N.D. Barbara "Barb" Swenson, 63, a lifelong Williston resident, passed away of cancer, Wednesday, April 14, 1999, at the Bethel Lutheran Home, where she had been a resident since 1972.

Lois Wrenn
MILES CITY, Mont. Lois Blair (Butterfield) Wrenn, 74, of Miles City, Mont., formerly of Williston, N.D., passed away Thursday, April 8, 1999, at the Holy Rosary Health Center in Miles City, after suffering a stroke.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 13, at the Grace Bible Church in Miles City. Pastor Jerry Coon officiated and interment followed at the family lot in the Custer County Cemetery.
Lois was born Oct. 18, 1924, in Williston, to Levi Kossuth and Jessie Lois (Blair) Butterfield. She attended grade school in Williston, graduated from Williston High School in June 1942, and took nurse's training at Mercy Hospital in Williston.
She was united in marriage with Albert Lawrence Wrenn Sr. on April 20, 1953, at St. Jude's Church in Havre, Mont.
The Stevenson and Sons Funeral Home of Miles City, Mont., was in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Foundation, Montana Affiliate, Inc., at Great Falls, Mont.; or to the Van Orsder United Methodist Church in Havre, Mont.
Manuel Meraz Samaniego
Manuel Meraz Samaniego, born Aug. 26, 1948, passed away January 31, 1999 in Casas Grandes,Chihuahua.
He attended Douglas Schools and was a resident of Douglas for 35 years. He resided recently in Agua Prieta, Sonora.
He is survived by his wife Sandra Samaniego and sons Victor, Alexander and Angel Samaniego; his mother Irene Meraz and brothers and sisters.
Services will be held in Agua Prieta Wednesday. Mass will be at 4 p.m., at Iglesia de Guadalupe.
Margaret M. Mical
Margaret M. Mical, 72, died at Sierra Vista Community Hospital on Monday, Feb. 1, 1999.
Margaret was born on December 28, 1926 in Ft. Worth, Texas to Pearl Snyder and Leotta "Tex" Knox Jorgensen. She was brought to Douglas from Texas as a small child and raised in Douglas. Margaret moved to Bisbee in 1945 and has been a resident since.
She worked at the Brite Spot and the Elks Lodge as a waitress and bartender until retiring in 1985 when she and her husband George married. Margaret and her husband loved dancing and playing cards. She was a very loving wife, mother, sister and friend. She will be missed and remembered fondly.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter, Connie Duncan, in 1960. Survivors include her husband, George Mical of Bisbee; daughters Linda Dickinson Brown of Bisbee and Kathy Stanford (David) of Playas, New Mexico; stepdaughters Irene Cabbage (David) of Pennsylvania and Georgianne Mary (Fred) of New York; one sister and brother-in-law, Bonnie and Jim Douglass of Bisbee; four grandchildren, Justin Brown, Bobbi Brown, Brian Stanford and Jamie Stanford.
A memorial service will be held at the Dugan Funeral Chapel on Friday, Feb. 5, 1999 at 10 a.m. Harry Mitchell will officiate. A private burial will follow in Douglas.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cancer Society, c/o Millicent A. Kasun, 311 Clawson St., Bisbee, AZ 85603. Family members and friends are invited to a gathering at the home of George Mical at 950 W. Finale St., Sunset Acres in Bisbee at 2 p.m. All arrangements are being handled by Dugan Funeral Chapel.
Stephanie Nevin
Stephanie Nevin died in late 1998 in North Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada after a long battle with cancer. She had lived in Douglas during the 1960s when her husband was employed by Phelps Dodge Corporation. She was active in a wide range of community and social activities.
For the past thirty years she had made her home in western Canada, where she was an innovative and generous social worker addressing the problems of the native Canadian community.
She is survived by four adult children, Molly Nevin Haas of Vancouver, B.C., Doug Nevin and Tom Nevin, both of North Vancouver, and Mark Nevin of Chicago; and two young grandsons. Her former husband, Andrew Nevin resides in Chicago.

Don Gray
Lifetime Cochise County cattle rancher Don Gray passed away January 25, 1999 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Tucson at the age of 58.
Don was born in Owensboro, Kentucky on November 6, 1940 and moved to Douglas with his parents in 1941.
Don graduated from Douglas High School in 1959. He worked at the Phelps Dodge Mines in Bisbee for nine years before returning to his life long love of ranching with his wife Gay Gray. He was the Ranch Manager at the Double E Ranch at McNeal for the past 22 years.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Cricket Gray Baugus in 1989. Also preceding were his parents Calvin and Mary Gray; brother, Richard and sisters Rachel and Mimi Gray.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years Gay (Hill) Gray; his son Skeeter Gray and four grandchildren Levi and Brandy Baugus and Montana and Nikole Gray all of McNeal; brother and sister-in-law Phil and Kim Gray of Tucson; sisters Cissy Messick of El Paso, TX and Marta (Robert) Anaya of Douglas; brother-in-law Larry Hill of Sierra Vista and sister-in-law Pixie (Sandy) Smith of Sierra Vista. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
A memorial Mass will be offered at 9 a.m. Friday at St. Luke's church with Father Jim Hobert officiating. Internment will immediately follow at the McNeal Cemetery
on Davis Road.
Honorary pallbearers will be George and Gary McBride, Frank Adams, Vernie and Bert Taylor, Sam McDonald, Ned Glidewell, Link Glenn, Steven Smith, David Joe Hall, Tommy Kuykendall, Leo Cook, Harvey Allen and Richard Anderson.

Lillian Ray Vinson
Lillian Ray Vinson passed away January 24, 1999 at the Southeast Arizona Medical Center in Douglas.
She was born in Eau Claire, Wisconsin on April 7, 1901 and moved to Arizona with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry A. Clark in 1910 when her father accepted a position with the Calumet and Arizona Mining Company in Bisbee. Mrs. Vinson graduated from Douglas High School and in 1925 graduated from the University of Arizona where she was member of the Kappa Alpha Theta fraternity. As a teacher in the Amphitheater Elementary School system, she resided for many years in Tucson where she was a member of the Tucson Junior League. Mrs. Vinson returned to Douglas in 1981.
She is survived by her sister Harriette Pernell and four nieces and nephews, Sharon Skelton, Charlyn McCollum, Harry Pernell and George Clark, Jr.

Jose Chavez Renova
Mr. Jose Chavez Renova of Elfrida, died January 24, 1999 as a result of an auto accident near Willcox, Arizona.
Mr. Renova was born November 16, 1929 in Colonia Penitas, Chihuahua, Mexico.
He has been an Arizona resident for the past 55 years.
He is survived by his wife, Eva Hernandez Renova of Elfrida; sons, Rodolfo, Francisco, Refugio, Guillermo, Humbero, Hector Manuel, Alvino, and Jorge Renova; daughters, Maria De La Luz, Olga Estrada and Norma Renova.; brother; Aniceto Renova. Also surviving are numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A rosary service will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday at St. Francis Church in Elfrida. A funeral Mass will be offered at 11 a.m. also at St. Francis Church with Monsignor John Anthony Oliver officiating. Burial will follow at the Whitewater Cemetery
in Elfrida.
Pallbearers who will serve are Rodolfo Renova, Francisco Renova, Refugio Renova, Guillermo Renova, Humberto Renova, Hector Manuel Renova and Alvino Renova.

Mr. Henry L. Pape of Douglas, died October 2, 1998 at the Tucson Medical Center.
Mr. Pape was born July 18, 1926 in New York, New York. He has been an Arizona resident for the past 20 years coming here from California.

Angelita M. Barcelo
Mrs. Angelita M. Barcelo of Douglas died October 25, 1998 at the Douglas Manor Care Center.
Mrs. Barcelo was born December 3, 1934 in Agua Prieta, Sonora. She had been a Douglas resident for the past 39 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alberto Barcelo on December 4, 1994.
Surviving is her daughter, Griselda (Victor) Zamora of Douglas; sons Alberto (Yolanda) Barcelo, Raul (Virginia) Barcelo and Enrique (Nancy) Barcelo, all of Douglas; sister, Isabel A. Martinez; brothers Guadalupe A. Martinez, Ismael A. Martinez, Gilberto A. Martinez and Manuel A. Martinez. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren.
A rosary service was held at 7 p.m. Monday at Brown Page Mortuary Chapel. A funeral Mass was held at 9 a.m. today at St. Luke's Church with Father Bob Carney officiating. Burial followed at Calvary Cemetery.
