John W. Christinson Jr.

Cottonwood resident John Christinson, Jr. died Jan. 19, 2000.

He was born March 10, 1908 in Chillicothe, Mo.

Mr. Christinson was 91 years old.

He worked as a rancher at several locations and was a foreman for many years on a cow ranch.

Mr. Christinson was a member of the Moose and an avid sports fan.

He volunteered his time at Veterans Hospitals in Oregon and in Prescott. He was presented with a certificate for 20 years and 5,614 hours of service by the Voluntary Department of the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Mr. Christinson was preceded in death by his wife, Bessie Christinson in 1996; two brothers and a sister.

Survivors include a foster son, Norman Lee of California; a brother, Robert L. Christinson of Cottonwood; a sister, Eva Cox of Missouri; eight nephews and four nieces.

A funeral service is scheduled for Jan. 28 at 10 a.m. in the Faith Lutheran Church. A visitation will precede the service beginning at 9 a.m.

William 'Bill' French

A rosary and funeral service has been scheduled for Camp Verde resident William "Bill" French.

Mr. French died Jan. 22, 2000.

A rosary has been scheduled for Wednesday at 7 p.m. at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church followed by a Mass on Thursday at 10 a.m.

Mr. French was born March 9, 1923 in Louisville, Ky.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1943 and served in France and Germany.

Mr. French worked for Greyhound Bus Lines as a driver for 30 years.

Survivors include his three sisters, Nona Gabriel, Geri McGrady and Louise Rapp and a nephew, Paul Rapp.

Thelma Dawdy

Yavapai Apache Nation Reservation resident Thelma Dawdy died Jan. 20, 2000.

She was born in the Reservation May 15, 1942.

Mrs. Dawdy was 57 years old.

She was a retired architect and member of the Yavapai Apache Nation.

Survivors include a daughter Suzette Samson of the Yavapai Apache Reservation; a sister, Earlene Gentry of Middle Verde; six grandchildren, Danny and Micah Jenkins, Ashley Jordan, Jennifer, John and Wendy Dawdy and a great-grandchild, Valerie Honwytewa.

A wake was held Monday at Rock Church and a service was held Tuesday on the reservation.

Frank R. Bruyneel

Private family services were held for Camp Verde resident Frank "Lucky" Bruyneel.

Mr. Bruyneel died Jan. 22, 2000 at the age of 65.

He was born July 30, 1934 in Los Angeles.

Mr. Bruyneel worked for John Kavnaugh Kennels.

He loved life and enjoyed making wind chimes, going to the Starlite Bowling Alley. spending time and fishing with his grandchildren.

Before relocating to Camp Verde, Mr. Bruyneel was a former resident of Flagstaff for 37 years.

Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Hallenbeck of Camp Verde; eight brothers and one sister of Texas and California; two children and five stepchildren and 14 grandchildren of Arizona.

Donations may be made to the family at 3540 Octillo Dr., Camp Verde 86322.

Mel Lichti

Merrill E. "Mel" Lichti of Clarkdale died Jan. 20, 2000.

He was 70 years old.

Mr. Lichti was born July 8, 1929 in Clarence, N.Y.

While living in Central America and Panama for 20 years, Mr. Lichti worked in the construction industry.

A veteran, he served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps.

Mr. Lichti was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #7400 and American Legion Post #25,. He was a life member of the Ancon Lodge of Masons, AF & AM in the Republic of Balboa Panama.

Mr. Lichti enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and flying his own plane.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Helen Lichti of Clarkdale; a brother, Clayton D. Lichti of Texas; two nieces, Lynette Hodde and Colleen Jowagic of Texas; two nephews, Robert and David Lichti of Texas.

A memorial service was held Monday at the American Legion Post #25.

Donations in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 2724 East Lakin, Suite 9, Flagstaff 86001.

Mollie W. Davis

A visitation and memorial has been scheduled for Saturday at the Arizona Ruffner Wakelin Funeral Home for Mollie Davis a native of Prescott. The visitation is scheduled from noon to 2 p.m. followed by a time of remembrance officiated by Wally Cole. A concluding service will be held at Yavapai Prescott Tribal Cemetery.

Mrs. Davis died Jan. 22, 2000 in Cottonwood.

She was 93 years old.

Mrs. Davis was born Sept. 5, 1906 in Prescott.

She is remembered for her sense of humor and dedication to children. Mrs. Davis adopted and raised two children of the Hopi Tribe.

She spoke fluent Yavapai and was a very strong willed woman even late in life.

Survivors include a cousin, Lucy Satella of Cottonwood; grandchildren, Rose-Marie Moore and Raymond Lopez of Phoenix and numerous grand-nieces and grand-nephews of the Jones and Satella families.

Maurita H. Moss

A memorial service is scheduled Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 7 on Arbors Drive for Camp Verde resident Maurita Moss.

Mrs. Moss died Jan. 22, 2000 at the age of 67.

She was born in Wichita, Kansas on Feb. 22, 1932.

She was a retired medical secretary and president of the VFW in Camp Verde. Mrs. Moss was dedicated to working for the rights of veterans.

Survivors include her husband, Charles D. Moss; a daughter, Nancy Rowden; two sons, Richard and James Rowden; a sister, Grethal Byron; a brother, Myron Nicholas; five grandchildren, Jon and Jeff Arp, and Jamie, Jimmy and Gena Rowden and three great granddaughters.

Jesse A. Valdez

Jesse Alfred Valdez, Sr. of Bullhead City and formerly of Jerome, died Jan. 15, 2000 at the age of 63.

He was born Oct. 1, 1936 in Superior, Ariz.

Mr. Valdez was raised in Jerome and worked in Copper Mining Building Construction and as a pantry cook.

He helped many young people in Bullhead City. He was always there for anyone young or old whom needed shelter, food or clothing. he was the kindest loving father to his children and grand-children.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jo Valdez.

Survivors include two sons, Mario Caldera of California and Jesse Eden Valdez of Bullhead City; two daughters, Pilar Linda Enneper of Las Vegas and Veronica Tracy Valdez of Bullhead City; his mother, Lupe Valdez Sanchez of Phoenix; two sisters, Beatrice Camille Cuaron of Cottonwood and Anna Guevara of Phoenix and six grandchildren, Douglas Purdy, Ashley Rose Allen, Jeremy Enneper, Kristen Ramirez, Jamie Caldera and Coren Caldera. he also leaves numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial mass will be held Jan. 29 at 10 a.m. in St. Cecilia's Mission Church.

Donations in his memory may be made to Calvary Chapel, 2636 Tierra Grande Hwy. 55, Bullhead City, 86442.

Alfred Velez

Cornville resident Alfred Velez, died Jan. 9, 2000 at the age of 68.

He was born Oct. 23, 1931 in Puerto Rico.

Mr. Velez worked in sales.

Survivors include his daughter, Michele Aikman of Illinois; a son, Brett Velez of Illinois and three sisters, Katherine Abrams of Florida, Elsle Shell of New York City and Evie Velez of New Jersey.

Private family services were held.

Westcott Funeral Home directed arrangements.

Conrad J. Steigerwald Jr.

Cottonwood resident Conrad J. Steigerwald Jr. died Dec. 27, 1999 at the age of 80.

He was a design engineer at Honeywell for 12 years and retired in 1962.

He also served in the U.S. Army.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth M. Miller; a daughter, Constance Meyers; sons, Conrad J. and Robert J. Steigerwald; a brother, Lawrence Lorden; nine grand-children and four great-grand-children.

A memorial service will be held Jan. 8 at 11 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cottonwood.

Contributions may be made to the Immaculate Conception Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 995, Cottonwood, 86326.

Patricia Ann Valdez

Cottonwood resident Patricia Ann Valdez died Jan. 3, 2000 at the age of 69.

She was born July 19, 1930 in Shelbyville, Ind.

Mrs. Valdez participated in many activities at Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7400.

Survivors include her husband, Jessee; a son, Carl Lenardson of Wyoming; a sister, Nancy Mangano of West Virginia; a grandson, Tony Lenardson of Wyoming; a granddaughter, Heather Lenardson of Wyoming; numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held today at 1 p.m. at the Mountain View United Methodist Church.

Donations in her memory may be made to the Northern Arizona Hospice, 269 S. Candy Lane, Cottonwood, AZ 86326.

Westcott Funeral Home is directing the arrangements.

Lorena A. Hall

A funeral service will be held Jan. 8 at noon at the First Baptist Church in Camp Verde for Lorena A. Hall. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m.

Mrs. Hall died Jan. 4, 2000 in Bagdad at the age of 77.

She was born March 4, 1922, in Grand Rapids, Mich.

A former resident of Black Canyon City, she worked as a cook at Rock Springs Restaurant and 4 B's Restaurant there. She also worked at many other restaurants during her lifetime.

She moved to Arizona in 1929. She belonged to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary in Black Canyon City and was also a member of the First Baptist Church of Camp Verde.

Survivors include five daughters, Joyce Manifee of Camp Verde, Della Mosely of Bagdad, Patsy Orey and her husband Richard of Phoenix, Glenda Courtney and her husband Don of Texas and Mary Jane Stenerson and her husband Andy of Idaho; two brothers, Tom Smith and his wife Elsie of Pinetop and William Smith and his wife Hermine of Black Canyon City; 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
