Betty Davis
Betty Lewis Davis, 73, of Houston, Texas, formerly of Magnolia, died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2001 at Memorial Herman Memorial City Hospital in Houston.
Born March 24, 1928 in Magnolia to the late Fred Turpentine Lewis and Willie Lucretia Fontaine Lewis, she was a real estate agent for various companies, a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority at Louisiana State University in New Orleans and attended Texas Women's University and the University of Arkansas.
She is preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Billy Fred Lewis.
Survivors are her husband, Joe L. Davis III of Houston, Texas; a daughter, Sheryl Ann Davis of Bellair, Texas; a son, Joe L. "Jay" Davis IV of Shreveport, La.; a granddaughter, Petty Officer Joan A. Davis of Shreveport, La.; and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Magnolia City Cemetery
with Lewis Funeral Home in charge and Bro. Eric Goble officiating.
Family visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today.
Memorials may be made to charity of donors choice.
Andrew Murphy
Andrew J. "Pumper" Murphy, 78, of McNeil, died Friday, Nov. 16, 2001 at his home.
Born Feb. 25, 1923 in Columbia County to the late Felix Jackson and Ethel Smart Murphy, he was a contract pumper for Mobile and L&M Drilling, a member of Woodman of the World, NRA and a Baptist.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Helen Estelle Barber Murphy; a son, Tony Gene Murphy; and a grandson, Patrick Murphy.
Survivors are two sons, Tommy Murphy and wife Peggy of McNeil and Samuel Murphy of Lonoke; a daughter, Janice Ward of Shreveport, La.; two grandsons, Anthony and Jeremy Murphy of Lonoke; five granddaughters, Kathryn Murphy of McNeil, Jamie Murphy of Lonoke, Jacinda Ward of Shreveport, La., Kimberly Ward of Kenner, La. and Shannon Rogers of Tyler, Texas; two great-granddaughters, Kaitlyn Murphy of McNeil and Elisha Anderson of Shreveport, La.; two great-grandsons, Randell Anderson of Shreveport, La. and Reilly Rogers of Tyler, Texas; a sister, Daisey Merritt of Magnolia; several nieces, great nephews, and a host of friends.
Service was Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at Shiloh Baptist Church with Bro. Thedwell Sanders officiating. Burial will follow at Shiloh Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Johnny Freeman, Paul Freeman, Allen Gene Murphy, Joe Landreneaux, Jerry Hines and Stanley Murphy.
Memorials may be made to the Shiloh Baptist Church.
Steve Ardoin
John Stephen Ardoin, 53, of Magnolia, died Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2002 in his home.
Born Feb. 17, 1949 at Opelousas, La., he attended Grambling State University and Southern Arkansas University, was a member of the Catholic Church, was a hospice medical social worker for Hospice Alternatives of Texarkana; was the adult/adolescent therapist, LMSW, for Living Hope of Texarkana; was on the board of directors for the Habitat for Humanity of Columbia County; and was actively involved in the Magnolia Boys Club and an avid Magnolia Panthers football fan.
Survivors are a son, Dusty Ardoin of Magnolia; his father, Dusty Ardoin of Opelousas, La.; and his mother, Winnie Ardoin of Opelousas.
Memorial service will be 6 p.m. Friday at the Fuqua-Everett Memorial Chapel of Texarkana Funeral Home.
Funeral arrangements will be in Louisiana at a later date.

Evelyn Weeks
Evelyn P. Weeks, 94, of Plain Dealing, La., died Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2002 in Longview, Texas following a short illness.
She was a resident of Plain Dealing since 1926, a member of the Salem Baptist Church and a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Sidney Joseph Weeks, and a daughter, Jerry Sue Oliver.
Survivors are a daughter, Kay Coleman and husband Alvin of White Oak, Texas; a son, Billy Thomas Weeks and wife Betty of Plain Dealing; a sister, Virgie Edmunds of Kaufman, Texas; nine grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Service will be 10 a.m. Friday in the Salem Baptist Church with Revs. Leslie Creel and David Birdsong officiating. Burial will follow in the Salem Cemetery
with Bailey Mortuary of Plain Dealing in charge.
Visitation will be from 2:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Bailey Mortuary in Plain Dealing.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons.

Vernon Elmore, 93, of Magnolia, died Monday, April 8, 2002 in the home. Arrangements are pending with Lewis Funeral Home.
Leon Brewer
Leon "Uncle Nink" Brewer, 49, of Cullen, La., died Saturday, Feb. 16, 2002 in Taylor.
He was born Aug. 17, 1952 in Stamps, the son of V.O. and Ella Mae Davis Brewer. He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church in Stamps.
Survivors include his widow, Teresa Brewer; two sons, Michael Reynolds of Springhill, La., and DeMarcus Brewer of Cullen; two daughters, Jacquelyn Brewer of Magnolia and Marshia Brewer of Cullen; his parents, V.O. and Ella Mae Brewer of Stamps; four brothers, O.V. Brewer and Porter Brewer, both of Stamps, James Brewer of Dallas and George Brewer of Ohio; one sister, Willie Sue Smith of Stamps; six grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
Visition will be until 5 p.m. Wednesday at Marks Funeral Home.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Friendship Baptist Church in Stamps with the Rev. J.C. Manley officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery under the direction of Marks Funeral Home.

Guy Thomas
Guy Jehovah Thomas, 67, of Emerson, died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2002, at Magnolia Hospital.
He was born Nov. 19, 1934 in Emerson, the son of Ike and Robert Ferguson Thomas. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Samuel Thomas and Ike Thomas Jr., and two sisters, Iva Malone and Jerry Bedenfield.
Survivors include two daughters, Ivy Denise Thomas and Gendenice Thomas, both of Flint, Mich.; one sister, Emma Jean Latchison of Flint; three brothers, Paul Thomas and Daniel Joe Doss, both of Gary, Inc., and John Wayne Lindsey of Waldo; eight grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be until 5 p.m. Wednesday at Marks Funeral Home.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Glover Memorial Church of God in Christ in Emerson with Elder Larry Ferguson officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery
under the direction of Marks Funeral Home.

David Landers, 49, of Kanasas, Mo., formerly of Magnolia, died Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2001 in Truman Medical Center in Kansas.

Mrs. Dell Milner Perry, 94, of Magnolia died Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2001 at her home.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Percy Sanders Perry.
Survivors are a son, Pat Perry and wife Linda of Harrison; three daughters, Mary Ann Waters and husband Sammy of Magnolia, Tommye Chesshir and husband Bill of Nashville, and Eloise Landgren and husband Norm of Schickley, Neb.; a brother-in-law, James Perry of Camden; 16 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; and several nieces and a nephew.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Memorial Park Cemetery
with Dr. Robert Burnham and Rev. Charles Sigman officiating and Bailey Funeral Home in charge.
