Janet Gail Fenwick age 77 of Mena died Wednesday, February 2, 2011 at her home in Mena. She was born on Saturday, April 1, 1933 to John Spotswood Nance and Sarah Genvieve Elliott in Dyersburg, Tennessee.
She was a homemaker who was defined by her kindness and gentleness.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one son Curtis Fenwick; one brother Robert Nance and one sister Elizabeth Bard.
She is survived by three sons Michael Fenwick of Mena, Timothy Fenwick of Tyler, Texas, Joseph Fenwick of Houston, Texas; one daughter Linda Riggins of Van Buren, Arkansas; three brothers John and Gene Nance of Mena, and David Nance of Grannis; one sister Ann Billings of Mena; eight grandchildren; three great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
A graveside service will be held at Sarah Grove Cemetery
in Figure Five, Arkansas on Tuesday, February 8, 2011 at 3 P. M. under the direction of Hall Funeral Service in Mena. There will be no public visitation.
Pallbearers will be her nephews.
Edna Joyce Gortemiller
(September 10, 1921 - January 30, 2011)
Edna Joyce Gortemiller, age 89, of Oden, went to be with The Lord, peacefully, in her home, with grandchildren and great-great grandchildren by her side, on Sunday night, January 30, 2011. Born September 10, 1921 in Pine Ridge, Arkansas, the only surviving daughter of five children, to John Hicks and Dewey Risenhoover Hicks. She attended Oden School and graduated from Big Fork High School in 1939. On December 25, 1938, she married her high school sweetheart, Ottis "Fuzz" Gortemiller. Edna and Fuzz lived in Mena before moving to Houston, Texas in 1946. There she attended business college, and worked as a contometer operator for the Gulf Oil Corp 19 years before they retired and moved back to Oden where they bought the farm and built their dream home. She was baptized at the Jordan River on February 2, 1998. Her interests included family and friends, gardening, cooking, sewing, quilting with the Pine Ridge Quilting Club, reading her Bible and attending church. She was a loving, kind, and generous mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to all who knew her. Edna will be especially remembered for the time and energy she devoted as caregiver to her beloved husband of 45 years, during his illness when he retired as Senior Captain from the Houston Fire Department. Survivors include Daughter, Deborah Wood of Oden, Arkansas. Daughter-in-law, Sue Gortemiller of Cypress, Texas. Brothers, Carl Hicks and wife Anna May of Pine Ridge, Jimmy Hicks, and wife Linda of Houston, Texas. Niece and “second daughter”, Shelba Jean Gortemiller Hosea of Marquez, Texas, and a stepsister, Jonnie Mae Wallace of Idabel, Oklahoma. Grandchildren, Rebecca Randolph of Oden, Arkansas, Heather Wood and Jim Wood of St. Petersburg, Florida, Kerry Billingsley and husband Lee of Cypress, Texas, and Maury Gortemiller of Atlanta, Georgia. Great Grandchildren, Ryan Revier, Michael Gilvarry and wife Kathryn, Courtney and Emily Billingsley, and James Dean Wood. Great-great grandchildren, Desiree Revier, Austin, and Livie Gilvarry. Many nieces, nephews, great, and great-great nieces and nephews. Edna was preceded in death by her parents, John and Dewey Hicks, husband, Ottis Gortemiller, sons, Garry and Bobby Gortemiller, brothers, Porter and J. D. Hicks, sister, Opal Hicks, and great grandson Jacob Billingsley, step-mother, Nettie Hicks, step-brother, Dale Maddox and wife Glenda, and step-sister, Mildred Maddox. Graveside services will be February 12, 2011, 11:00 a. m. at The Gortemiller Cemetery
with Brother Paul Burke and Brother Charles Ballentine officiating under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a reception following services at the First Baptist Church. Pallbearers will be Billy Ray Gortemiller, Kenneth Gortemiller, Greg Gortemiller, Michael Gilvarry. Ricardo Federico Navarro
(September 4, 1961 - February 4, 2011)
Ricardo Federico Navarro age 49 of Cove died Friday, February 4, 2011 in Cove. He was born on Monday, September 4, 1961 to Federico Navarro and Lorenza Diaz Corral in Tijuana, Baja, Mexico.
Rick served in the United States Marines Corp for 8 years, 4 of those years he served as an Electric Equipment Repair Specialist and the other 4 years a Nuclear Biological and Chemical Defense Specialist. His 
military career is his greatest accomplishment. After the military Rick worked at Tyson’s in Grannis for 15 years and enjoyed working in the maintenance department. He also was an outdoorsmen and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was an avid gun and knife collector. Rick was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, VFW and of the Catholic Faith.
He is preceded in death by his brother Hector Navarro.
Survivors include his father, Federico Navarro; his mother, Lorenza Corral of Yorba Linda, California; wife Ann Navarro of Conway; two sons, Baulaver Driscoll of Fort Smith and Matthew Navarro of Kiser, Arkansas; one brother, Rigo Navarro of Corona, California; two sisters, Elva Garcia of Perris, California and Alma Aparicio of Yorba Linda, California; uncle, Jose Corral of Goleta, California; aunt, Angelina Navarro; special friends, Jack McAffee of Glasgow, Illinois, Michael Perry of Fort Smith, Stacy Presley of Fort Smith, Deborah Perry and Mary Driscoll both of Malvern and Willis Flemings; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
A funeral Mass will be Friday, February 11, 2011 at 10:00 A. M. at the St. Agnes Catholic Church with Father Norbert Rappold as celebrant. Visitation will be held Thursday, February 10, 2011 from 6-8 P. M. with a Rosary Service held at 7:00 P. M. at the Hall Funeral Service Chapel in Mena. A private burial with military Honors will take place in the Fort Smith National Cemetery
under the direction of Hall Funeral Service in Mena.
Patsy May
(September 14, 1933 - February 5, 2011)
Patsy May, age 77, of Mena, Arkansas, passed away Saturday February 5, 2011 at her home in Shady.
Patsy was born September 14, 1933 in Glenwood, Arkansas to the late Edgar Welch and Minnie Foster Welch. She was married to the late Zane Grey May. Patsy worked as a cook in a nursing home. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and a friend to all who knew her.
She is survived by:

Twelve grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Zane May, her parents Edgar and Minnie Welch, daughter, Barbara Blankenship and grandson, David S. Blankenship, brother, Earl and sisters, Barbara, Velma, Estelle, and Dora .
Graveside service will be Monday, February 7, 2011, 10:00 a. m. at Cherry Hill cemetery in Cherry Hill with Brother Jimmy Mabry under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home of Mena.
Honorary pallbearer is nephew, Charlie Wolfenbarger.
Ina Lou Lewis
(May 3, 1926 - February 4, 2011)
Ina Lou Lewis, age 84, of Mena, Arkansas passed away February 4, 2011 in Mena.
Ina Lou was born May 03, 1926 to the late Shela Preston Lance and Jenevieve Hoover Lance. She worked in the Poultry business. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and a friend to all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by:

She was preceded in death by her parents Shela and Jenevieve Lance and son Orven Lewis.
Funeral services will be Tuesday February 15, 2011; 2:00 p. m. at the Beasley-Wood Chapel and interment will follow in the Mt. Gilead cemetery in Rocky under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home of Mena.
Visitation will be Monday, February 14, 2011 at 6:00- 8:00 p. m at the Beasley Wood Funeral Home of Mena.
Charles Tony Roberts
(September 3, 1937 - February 2, 2011)
Mr. Charles Tony Roberts, age 73, of Cove, Arkansas, went to be with his Lord, surrounded by his family, on Wednesday, February 2, 2011 at his home.
He was born September 3, 1937 in Cove, Arkansas to the late John Harrison Roberts and the late Bertha Lee Parton Roberts. He was united in marriage to Delores Jane Heifner. Tony was a logger by profession, and was proud of his family, who will carry his memory and miss him always. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.

Funeral services will be Monday, February 7, 2011 at 2:00 p. m. at the Pleasant Grove Church of the Nazarene at Cove with Brother Ray Cromer, Brother Steve Bradley, and Brother Kevin Price officiating. Interment follows in Pleasant Grove Cemetery
at Cove under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home. A visitation for family and friends will be Sunday afternoon, February 6th from 2:00 p. m. to 4:00 p. m. at the funeral home.

Bessie Marie Hebert
(October 28, 1922 - February 2, 2011)
Bessie Marie Hebert age 88 of Mena, formally of Grand Lake, Louisiana, died Wednesday, February 2, 2011 at the Rich Mountain Nursing and Rehab Center in Mena. She was born on Saturday, October 28, 1922 to Alcea and Maggie Marie Blanchard Hebert in Grand Lake, Louisiana.
Bessie enjoyed spending time with her family and received her greatest joy from her children and grandchildren. She was the happiest when she knew her family was happy. She raised her twin grandsons which was one of her greatest accomplishments in life. Bessie hobbies included reading, working her search and find puzzles and knowing all she could about the music county western star. She also enjoyed traveling and her trip she made to Nashville to see her favorite singer.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her first husband Charles Barber Sr. ; her second husband Dewey Hebert; one brother Robert Hebert; two grandchildren Tabatha Dicus and Lisa Champion.
Survivors include one son Charles Barber Jr. of Sulphur, Louisiana; two daughters Alcia Bearfield of Mena and Jackie Champion of Kansas; one sister Agnes Hebert of Grand Lake, Louisiana; six grandchildren Tammy Young of Mena, Troy Trahan of Lake Charles, Louisiana, Michael and David Champion of Grand Lake, Louisiana, Bubba Champion of Alabama and Candice Barber of Lake Charles, Louisiana nine great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be Saturday, February 5, 2011 at 10:00 A. M. at the Hall Funeral Service Chapel in Mena with Reverend Ron Tilley officiating. Interment will follow in the Pinecrest Memorial Garden. Visitation will be Friday, February 4, 2011 from 6-8 P. M. at the Hall Funeral Service Chapel in Mena.
Pallbearers will be David Champion, Michael Champion, Troy Trahan, David Young and Robert Lott.

Freddie Dean Long
(July 10, 1944 - January 30, 2011)
Mr. Freddie Dean Long, age 66, of Mena, Arkansas, passed away Sunday, January 30, 2011 in Ft. Smith.
He was born July 10, 1944 in Maysville, Oklahoma to the late Fred Long and the late Minnie Bell Ames Long. He was united in marriage to Cindy Pugh. Dean was a long time employee of US Motors and loved to golf and spend time with his family and friends. He especially enjoyed going to car shows with the Rich Mtn. Vettes. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him

at Maysville, Oklahoma. Arrangements are under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home. A visitation for family and friends will be Thursday evening, February 3rd from 6:00 to 8:00 p. m. at the funeral home. Pallbearers are John Davenport, Larry Stewart, Jeff Montgomery, Clint Montgomery, Gary Gann, John Montgomery, L. J. Duggan and Rocky Wyman. Honorary pallbearers are the members of the Rich Mtn. Vettes Corvette Club.

Joyce J. Bristow
(October 25, 1941 - March 29, 2011)
Joyce J. Bristow, 69, of Mena finished her journey quietly at her home on March 29, 2011. She was born October 25, 1941 in Paris, Texas. She was the daughter of Stow Hudson Hatcher and Rosa Lavada Richards Hatcher. She was a faithful Spirit-filled Christian and a member of Grace Bible Church in Mena. Her faith in Jesus was as unshakable as her love for her family, and it was through her faithfulness to Christ and her prayers that led her children into the faith she lived openly on a daily basis.
She was preceded in death by her husband Samuel Delbert Bristow Jr., a daughter Robbie Orlean Bristow, sisters, Lavada Slaughter and Hassel Banks, her mother and father, Rosa and Hudson Hatcher, along with a number of aunts and uncles and other family members.
She is survived by her children; Ron Bristow and wife Rhonda of Mena, Rachel Bristow of Mena, Sam Bristow III and wife Shari of Tennessee Colony, Texas. A sister, Alma White and husband Curtis of Providence Forge, Virginia. Brother, William Sapp, and wife Julie of Church View, Virginia. Four grandsons; Steelie McCuller of Simms, Texas, Joshua Bristow of Maud, Texas, Josiah Bristow and Andrew Bristow of Tennessee Colony, Texas. Six Great-Grandchildren; Amber Bristow, April Bristow, and Levi Bristow of Simms, Texas, and Mason McCuller, Kacie McCuller, and Riley McCuller of Simms, Texas; as well as a number of nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Joyce had a living will that stated her final wishes. One of her greatest fears was to be a burden on her children during the late stages of her illness, as well as her final arrangements. Her family considered contributing to her care a great honor and gift of love for them. Her life was one of service, so much so at times that her health would be compromised, but she never failed to continue her service. She worked many years in the hospitality field as a waitress, as well as a live-in caregiver for the elderly. She was a servant of Jesus first, her family next, and her many friends and neighbors as the need arose. She was a true human being that was an inspiration to those whose lives she touched. There are no words in any earthly language that can describe the loss the world has suffered with her passing. The passing of great kings, statesmen, philosophers, poets and entertainers pale in comparison to the loss of one gentle soul.
Her body will be sent for cremation and a memorial service will be planned for a later date. Those who would like to send flowers or cards are asked to make a donation in her name to the Susan G. Koman Foundation, Attn: Donor Services, P. O. Box 650309, Dallas, TX 75265-0309 as she was a breast cancer survivor. Cremation will be overseen by Hall Funeral Service of Mena.
