Thomas E. Pry
(November 28, 1940 - January 7, 2011)
Thomas Pry, age 70, of Mena, passed away Friday, January 7, 2011 in Mena.
He was born November 28, 1940 in Donnavan, Missouri to the late Ernest Virgil Pry and the late Sybil Silkwood Pry.
He was united in marriage to the late Marcia Carp.
Mr. Pry was a newspaper publisher by profession.
He was a loving brother, uncle and friend.
Survivors are:
Sister: Paula Cox and husband Terry of Mena, Arkansas Jacque Cramer of Rio Vesta, California
Nephews: Derek Cox of Mena, Arkansas Stan Cramer of California Carl Cramer of California Mark Cramer of California
Mr. Pry will be sent for cremation under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
Mary Gladys McCleskey

Funeral services for Mary Gladys McCleskey, formerly of Wickes, Arkansas, will be Monday, January 10, 2011 at 2:00 p. m. at Wickes First Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Daniel Cemetery. Visitation will be 4:00-6:00 p. m., Sunday, January 09, 2011, at the Beasley-Wood Chapel in Mena. Local arrangements are under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home of Mena.
William Hamilton Dunn Sr.
(March 16, 1933 - January 3, 2011)
William H. Dunn, Sr., 77 of Mena, Arkansas, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, January 3, 2011 with his family by his side.
Bill was born on Thursday, March 16, 1933, in Carrollton, Mississippi, the son of the late Johnnie Hamilton Dunn and Willie Rae (Blount) Dunn.
He was a decorated Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict, an active member of Cherry Hill Baptist Church since 1976, and was a deacon and choir member. He also belonged to the Queen Wilhelmina Good Sam’s Camping Club and American Legion. Bill always sought out ways to help those in need and gave freely of his love and time. He was a witness to all who knew him, and was quick to share his wonderful sense of humor and wit. He loved his Lord, family, country, church family, and friends.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Ona Louise Dunn, daughter; Debbie Cain and husband Raymond of Mena, Arkansas; son; William Dunn, Jr., and wife Amy of Pensacola, Florida, grandchildren; Deanna Ayres, Jennifer Deramus, Zachary Dunn, Grayson Dunn; great grandchildren; Aaron Haynes, Sean Haynes, Patrick Haynes, Alexis Deramus, sisters; Vivian Orr and Betty McBryde of Opal, Arkansas and many cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.
A memorial service and celebration of his life will be held, January 8, 2011, 10:30 A. M., at Cherry Hill Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers please make donations to the American Cancer Society or Rich Mountain Community College Scholarship Fund.

Helen Catterton Grantz
(September 15, 1925 - January 3, 2011)
Helen Catterton Grantz passed away peacefully surrounded by family and January 3, 2011, Helen, 85, of Plunkettville, Oklahoma was born in Texarkana, Arkansas, September 15, 1925, The daughter of Nathan Osco and Winefred Emma Catterton. Described by her late brother Conn as “spirited, impulsive, sensitive, bright and affectionate,” Helen grew up in Texarkana, where she graduated from Texas High School in 19742. Two years later, she graduated from Texarkana Junior College, and then from East Texas State University, where she received the B. A. degree in 1946.
While attending Texarkana Junior College, Helen met Carl Grantz. They married September 10, 1947. Helen then entered the teaching profession, teaching primarily business education, often supporting the family and her teaching salary while Carl was pursuing his M. A. and Doctoral degrees.
Much later in her career, Helen completely changed course, earning an M. A. degree at Texas A&I University in Kingsville, Texas; then becoming a guidance and vocational counselor at Edinburg High School in South Texas.
For Helen, nothing was so important as her family. She was also a loving mother of four children: David Catterton Grantz of Plunkettville, Oklahoma; Michael Owen Grantz of Dallas, Texas; Paul Nathan Grantz (deceased); and Cynthia Jean Grantz of Adrian, Michigan. Helen is survived by three grandchildren and two great-granchildren.
Helen’s life will be celebrated during a luncheon and memorial service held at the 1st Presbyterian Church of Mena, Arkansas, on Saturday, January 8th. The luncheon will begin at 12:30 p. m., and the memorial at 2:00 p. m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the Carl L. William "Bill" Carroll Powell

Mr. William “Bill” Carroll Powell, age 85, of Oden, Arkansas, passed away Sunday, January 2, 2011 at Hot Springs.
He was born May 19, 1925 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to the late Baltimore Yual Powell and the late Lola Murphy Powell Simpson. He was united in marriage to the late Norene Powell. He was a newspaper stereotyper by profession and was a member of the Church of Christ. He was a loving father, grandfather, and friend, and will be dearly missed.
He is survived by:

He was preceded in death by his parents, Baltimore Powell and Lola Simpson, his wife Virginia Norene Powell, and two daughters, Kim Lenard and Nancy Powell.
Graveside services will be Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at 10:00 a. m. at Pencil Bluff Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home. A visitation for family and friends will be Tuesday evening, January 4th from 5:00 to 7:00 p. m. at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Gary Powell, Ricky Powell, Kevin Black, Nick Lenard, and Marty Lenard.
Hamp Darrell Wiles
(August 2, 1933 - January 1, 2011)
Hamp “Darrell” Wiles age 77 of Acorn died Saturday, January 1, 2011 at his home.
He was born on Wednesday, August 2, 1933 to Hamp R. L. and Clara Ward Wiles in Posey Hollow, Arkansas.
Darrell was an honest and good man. His faith was strong, as was his character. His word was gold. Darrell was a Christian and attended the Southside Church of God.
He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them. He loved to tease and play good clean jokes on people. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He took pride in teaching his grandsons these sports and to enjoy the outdoors. His grandchildren brought him some of the greatest joys in his life.
Darrell was a veteran of the United States Navy and served his country during the Korean Conflict. After his service he came home and started working various jobs throughout the United States, eventually returned to Mena and began working for the Polk County Housing Authority as the maintenance man. Darrell worked for the Housing Authority 25 years until his retirement.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife Pauline Wiles of the home; one son Timothy Davis of Mena; one daughter and son in law Phyllis and Jeff Cunningham of Mena; one brother Darris and wife June Wiles of Mena; one sister Doris and husband Leo Lott of Mena; five grandchildren, Nick Cunningham of Ft. Smith, Jessica Anderson of Bentonville, Colby Davis of Mena, Jasper Davis of Mena and Elijah Davis of Mena; five great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services will be Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at 10:00 A. M. at the Southside Church of God with Reverend Kenny Posey and Reverend Ron Tilley officiating. Interment will follow in the Rock Springs Cemetery
at Posey Hollow under the direction of Hall Funeral Service in Mena.
Visitation will be Monday, January 3, 2011 from 6-8 P. M. at the Hall Funeral Service Chapel in Mena.
Pallbearers will be Troy Harris, Roy Harris, Daryen Wiles, Lyndel Lyda, Rodney Lott, and Robert Lott. Honorary Pallbearers will be Dean Wiles and Randy Lott.

Makenna Jewell Lynn Haworth, age one and a half years old, of Cove, Arkansas, passed away Monday, February 28, 2011 at her home.

Lois Vernelle Hesse

Lois Vernelle Hesse, age 78, of Mena, Arkansas, passed away Sunday, February 27, 2011 in Mena.
She was born June 13, 1932 in Creston, Nebraska to the late Raymond Osten and the late Marcella Johnson Osten. She was united in marriage to the Reverend Donley Hesse. She was a homemaker, and Mrs. Hesse was also in the Red Hot Hatties and was a member of The Women of Trinity. She was a loving wife, mother, step-grandmother, sister, and friend.
