Leon Troy Bauman Leon Troy Bauman went home to the Lord on February 24, 2010, surrounded by his family. He was 85 years old. He was born on January 27, 1925, in Prairie County to Obest Andrew Bauman and Hattie Pearl Burns Bauman. Leon is survived by his lifelong love and wife of 63 years, Luna Rose Almond Bauman. He was a loving father to his four surviving children, Robert Glenn Bauman and wife Micki, Ronald Leon Bauman and wife Nita, all of Stuttgart; Patricia Bauman Cole and husband Stacy of Fort Worth, Texas, and Sheila Bauman Whatley and husband Steve of Hot Springs. “Papa Lee,” as he is lovingly called, is adored and missed by his surviving 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Leon was preceded in death by his parents; his older brother, Andrew Lamar Bauman; and his sister, Eula Pearl Powell. He is survived by his brother, Robert Henry Bauman. Leon Troy proudly served his country during World War II in the 12th Air Force Maintenance Crew, which hauled supplies in Florence, Italy. Leon also excelled in marksmanship. Leon worked as a farmer for 45 years where he grew rice, soybeans and wheat. He bought and distributed rice to communities in Arkansas and served on the Regional Water Distribution Board to secure city water for rural communities around Stuttgart. Leon was a pioneer in soybean irrigation. Leon served as a Deacon in First Baptist Church, Stuttgart. He was on the Board of Trustees for the new and present facility. He was a member of the Beacon Sunday School class. Leon Troy Bauman was a member of the Arkansas Flying Farmers, was a private pilot and enjoyed flying. He also enjoyed riding motorcycles and touring the United States with his wife Luna in their motor home. Visitation will be held from 5- 7 p.m. on Friday, February 26, 2010, at Turpin Funeral Home in Stuttgart. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 27, at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Stuttgart with Dr. Sam Roberts officiating. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, Stuttgart, Arkansas. Carl Horace Stokes Carl Horace Stokes, 81, of Stuttgart passed away Wednesday, February 24, 2010, at Baptist Health-Stuttgart. Mr. Stokes was born January 17, 1929, in Keo to Carl Francis Stokes and Lou Ella Brock Stokes. He was an Army veteran and was owner of IGA Foods before retirement. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margarette Stokes; son, Sandy Stokes; granddaughter, Carrie Stokes; brother, Glen Stokes; and sisters, Evelyn Lovell and Geraldine Farrer. Survivors are daughter, Deborah Kay McLaughlin of Nashville, Arkansas; brother, Cleburn Lee Stokes of Friona, Texas; four sisters, Ruby Spicer of Stuttgart, Marie Bradley of Swan Lake, Marilyn Clinton of Pine Bluff and Irene Ingiald of Royal; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchildren. Funeral services, officiated by Bro. Sam Morgan, are 10 a.m. Saturday at Calvary Missionary Baptist Church with burial in Lone Tree Cemetery. Yvonne Amonette Armstrong Yvonne Amonette Armstrong, 82, of Stuttgart, widow of John Norman Armstrong, died Thursday, February 25, 2010, at Baptist Health Medical Center-Stuttgart. Mrs. Armstrong was born January 18, 1928, in Mineral Springs, Arkansas, to Samuel Ernest and Marguerite Amonette. She received a BSE from Henderson State College and retired as a public school teacher in special education. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and an honorary life member of Presbyterian Women of the Church. She was also a member of Arkansas Post Chapter of the Daughters of American Revolution, Manakin Huguenot Society – Texas Branch, Languedoc Chapter of the National Huguenot Society of Texas and Arkansas County Retired Teachers Association. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Samuel Edwin Amonette. Survivors are two sons, George A. Armstrong and wife Jan of Springfield, Missouri, and Joe Harry Armstrong of Austin, Texas; daughter, Jane Armstrong Vos of Stuttgart; two sisters, Annette Amonette Rodgers of Hope and Marjorie Amonette Chambers of Lindale, Texas; sister-in-law, Esther Amonette of Nashville, Arkansas; four grandchildren, Daniel Vos and wife Nikki of Jonesboro, Natalie Wright and husband Joshua of DeWitt, Wren Armstrong of Springfield and Laine Armstrong of Kansas City, Missouri; and three great-grandchildren Mallory and Lydia Wright and Jacob Vos. Funeral services, officiated by the Rev. Timothy Reeves and Dr. J. Fulton Amonette, are 2 p.m. Sunday at First Presbyterian Church with burial in Lone Tree Cemetery by Turpin Funeral Home of Stuttgart. Borchert James Howard Borchert, 57, of Stuttgart died Friday, February 26, 2010, at Baptist Health Medical Center-Little Rock. James was born July 1, 1952, in Stuttgart to Howard and Sallye Hayes Borchert. Following graduation from Stuttgart High School, he received a Bachelor of Science degree in History from Henderson State University. He was purchasing manager for Riceland Foods, Inc. in Stuttgart where he had been employed for 32 years. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church. Survivors are his son, Zachary James Borchert (Shannon) of Stuttgart; parents, Howard and Sallye Borchert of Stuttgart; Zack’s mother, Renee Robison of Sherwood; two brothers, Fred Borchert (Cindy) of Fort Smith and Kermit Borchert (Cindy) of Ashland, Ohio; three nephews; and one niece. Funeral services, officiated by Pastor Andy Toopes, are 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. John’s Lutheran Church with burial in Shiloh Cemetery. Visitation is 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at Turpin Funeral Home in Stuttgart. Pauline Curton Myrick Pauline Curton Myrick, 81, of Stuttgart went to be with the Lord Saturday, February 27, 2010, at her home. Mrs. Myrick was born December 19, 1928, in Humphrey to Houston and Mattie Holly Burlison. She was a retired telephone operator with GTE and was a member of Southside Baptist Church where she was a member of the choir. She was a beautiful woman who had an angelic voice and loved singing all the time. She had a passion for gardening and loved working with her flowers. She loved the color pink. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister and two brothers. Survivors are her husband John Myrick Jr.; three daughters, Linda Carol Coburn of McRae, Sissi Burdyshaw of Bryant and Dawn Gwyn Anderson of Stuttgart; two step-children, Debbie Perkins of Slydell, Louisiana, and Gary Myrick of Mayflower; brother, Raymond Burlison of Stuttgart; sister, Virgie Bullock of Humphrey; five grandchildren, Shane Parker, Shawn McMurtrey, Dagian Barker, Carmen Coburn and Cecily Anderson; and 10 great-grandchildren. Funeral services, officiated by Bro. Gregg Greenway, are 2 p.m. Tuesday at Southside Baptist Church with burial following in Lone Tree Cemetery. Geraldine "Jerri" Bowen Cox Geraldine “Jerri” Bowen Cox, 81, of Stuttgart, widow of Elbert Cox, passed away Wednesday, March 3, 2010, at White Hall Nursing and Rehab Center. Mrs. Cox was born July 19, 1928, in Humphrey to Octavis Ward “Doc” and Nellie Irene Clayborn Bowen. Following high school and college graduation, she was a school teacher for 38 years. She was a member of the Church of Christ. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Jeff and John Bowen; and sister, Eunice Scroggins. Survivors are two daughters, June Cox of Stuttgart and Connie (James) Truhett of Pine Bluff; six grandchildren, Tom (Becca) Truhett of Beebe, Charlie (Katy) Morris of Stuttgart, Tracy (Doug) Reed of White Hall, Allen (Arlene) Truhett of Maryland and Shawn (Laura) Truhett and Brian Truhett of Michigan; and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral services, officiated by Bro. Joe Spangler, are 10 a.m. Friday at Turpin Funeral Home chapel with burial in Williams Cemetery. Visitation is 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Turpin Funeral Home. Ruby McClenney Seidenschwarz Ruby McClenney Seidenschwarz, 90, of Ulm, Arkansas, passed away Saturday, March 6, 2010, at Baptist Medical Health Center in Stuttgart. Ruby was born at Carlisle, Arkansas, living her whole life on the Grand Prairie. She was a member of the Roe United Methodist Church, farmer’s wife, homemaker and was a receptionist for the Stuttgart Memorial Hospital for 16 years. After retiring in 2006 she became an avid volunteer at the Museum of the Arkansas Grand Prairie. Ruby was also famous for her fruitcakes, and many other delectable dishes. She loved volunteering, cooking, reading, serving church and community, and also visiting with her family and friends. Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, Lebert and Blanche McClenney; two brothers; two sons, Wayne and Paul; and her husband of 61 years, Herman Seidenschwarz. She is survived by her daughter, Sara (Tom) Mertens of Carlisle; sons, Bill (Prudy) Seidenschwarz of Ward and Chuck (Vivian) Seidenschwarz of Stuttgart; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a host of family and friends. Her friendly smile and greetings, quick steps and inspiration will be missed by all. Visitation will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 10, 2010, followed by an 11 a.m. memorial service at Roe United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to the Museum of the Arkansas Grand Prairie, Carlisle Alumni Association or Roe United Methodist Church.
