NORTH LITTLE ROCK -- Juanita Lee Winfrey Short, 76, of North Little Rock, formerly of Newport, died Tuesday, Feb. 5, in North Little Rock. Born in Waldenburg, she was a homemaker, she worked at Victor Metals for 10 years and was a member of the Church of the Nazarene at Newport.
Survivors include one son, Ronald A. Short of Newport; two daughters, Judy McGuire of Newport and Cindy Carty of Hot Springs; one brother, John C. "J.C." Winfrey of Newport; eight grandchildren, Pam Valencia, LaRhonda Gansz, Brian Shawn Short, Scotty Short, Kasey Garner, Lane McGuire, Tara Samples and Sean Patrick Riley; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Homer Author Short, one son, one daughter, one sister and one grandson.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday at Jackson's Newport Funeral Home chapel, with Leon Tidwell officiating. Burial will follow at Walnut Grove Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Anthony Garner, Dennis Gansz, Jamie Valencia, Tim Burcynski, Anthony Clark and Ronnie McGuire.
Honorary pallbearers will include Chuck Riley and Larry Riley.
Visitation will be today from 6-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Sims
PARAGOULD -- Jesse Graham Sims, 77, of Paragould died Tuesday, Feb. 5, at St. Bernard's Medical Center. Born at Paragould, he was a former employee of Hurt Grocer Co. and a distributor for Little Debbie-McKee Baking Co. A World War II Navy veteran, he was a member of 7th and Mueller Church of Christ.
Survivors include one son, Kenny Dale Sims of Mountain View; one daughter, Jessie Jeanette Caffey of Cleburne, Texas; one sister, Goldie Sims Peters of Camden; four grandchildren, Chanda Morse of Nashville, Brad Caffey of Bowling Green, Ky., Brian Jesse Caffey of Fort Worth, Texas, and Jason Sims of Mountain View; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Retha Jarrett Sims; his parents, Jim and Savanna Treadway Sims; four brothers and one sister.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at 7th and Mueller Church of Christ with Claude Lewis and Art Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Greene County Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Bob Rowe, Beri Lamb, John McDaniel, Maurice Hurd, Buddy Woodard and John Wilkinson.
Honorary pallbearers will include J.W. Evans, Telpher Campbell, Raymond McCaghren, Scottie Brummett, Lowell Herren and Greg Walker.
Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. today at Mitchell Funeral Home of Paragould.

MINTURN -- Jessie Warnick, 85, of Minturn died Wednesday, Feb. 6, at her residence.
Arrangements will be announced by Bryan Funeral Home of Hoxie.
Weitkamp
POCAHONTAS -- William Clarence Weitkamp, 91, of Pocahontas died Tuesday, Feb. 5, at Pocahontas Nursing and Rehab. Born in O'Kean, he was a farmer.
Survivors include his wife, Marion Z. Crawford Weitkamp of Pocahontas; one son, Lum Weitkamp of Florissant, Mo.; one daughter, Joyce Loggains of Newport; two brothers, Ray Weitkamp of Pocahontas and Jack Weitkamp of Delaplaine; two sisters, Eunice Holbrook of Holly Springs, Miss., and Rosalee Crawford of Biggers; five grandchildren;10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday in the chapel of McNabb Funeral Home, with Melvin Shelton officiating. Burial will follow at Randolph Memorial Gardens in Pocahontas.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Young
Edward Dwane Young, 76, of Williford died Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2002 at his residence. He was a farmer and a charter member of Forrest Hills Baptist Church of Williford, where he was a deacon and a trustee.
Survivors include one daughter, Jolene Clara Rogers of Lakeland, Fla.; five sons, Dennis Lee Young and William David Young, both of Williford, Travis Dwane Young and Everett Larry Ratliff, both of Hardy and Gary Wayne Ratliff of Ravenden; one brother, Floyd Young of Texas; 12 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, two sisters, one grandchild and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Higginbotham Funeral Home of Hardy, with the Rev. Maurice Willis officiating. Burial will follow at the Bradford Cemetery
in Ravenden.
Active pallbearers will be Jim Miller, Steve Miller, Curtis James, William James, Gerald Welch and Tony Jones.
Honorary pallbearers will include Jerry Powell and Steve Collins.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Barham
TULSA, Okla. — Hugo Barham, 76, of Tulsa, formerly of O’Kean, died Wednesday, June 26, 2002 at the VA Medical Center. A retired Air Force sergeant, he was a veteran of World War II, the
Korean War and the Vietnam War.
Survivors include his wife, Constance Jayne Weatherwax Barham of Tulsa; three sons, William Jonathan Barham and Dustin Rexford Barham, both of Tulsa, and Scot Dublin Barham of Baltimore, Md.; one brother Grover Maddon Barham Sr. of Bowie, Md.; one sister, Norma Million of Tulsa; and one granddaughter, Mariah Barham of Tulsa.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John E. and Ruth P. Baskey Barham.
Arrangements will be announced by McNabb Funeral Home of Pocahontas.
Bates
MEMPHIS — Verna Imogene Williams Bates, 85, of Memphis died Tuesday, June 25, 2002 at Rose Care Nursing Center. A former resident of Marked Tree, she was a retired substitute teacher in the Memphis schools and was of the Assembly of God faith.
Survivors include a daughter, Gwendolyn Bates of Memphis, and two sisters, Madeline Williams of Trumann and Joyce James of Memphis.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold F. Bates.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. today in Marked Tree Cemetery, under the direction of Murphy Funeral Home of Marked Tree.

Collett
WARM SPRINGS — Roy Lee Collett, 61, of Warm Springs died Tuesday, June 25, 2002 at St. Bernard’s Medical Center in Jonesboro. Born in Poinsett County, he lived in Clay County before moving to Warm Springs. He was a retired farmer and member of the Pentecostal Church in Knobel.
Surviving are one sister, Betty Smith of Success, and five brothers, Troy Collett of Success, Bill Collett of Trumann, Robert Collett of Maynard, James Collett of Corning and William Collett of Reyno.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Gregg Funeral Home of Jonesboro, with burial to be in the Nettleton Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Michael Woods, Bobby Tanner, Michael Reeves, Bobby Poley, David Rainwater and Randy Foust.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
Cortez
MANHATTAN, Kan. — Robert Leon Cortez, 80, of Manhattan, died Wednesday, June 26, 2002 at his home following a long illness. He was born in Kansas City, Mo., and served in the Army Medical Corps from 1940-1945. He attended the University of Southern Californian at Los Angeles and was a claims manager for Allstate Insurance Co. until he retired in 1974. After retiring he moved to Cord then to Batesville in 1984. He was employed by Lyon College in Batesville in several administrative positions before moving to Manhattan in 1997.
Surviving are his wife Alice Morrow Cortez of the home; one daughter, Diane Row of Manhattan; and four grandchildren, Allison Row, Brandon Row, Kristen Row and Michelle Row, all of Manhattan.
A memorial service will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Batesville. Burial will be in the Center Grove Cemetery
at Cord-Charlotte under the direction of Jackson’s Newark Funeral Home.

Hearne infant
NEWPORT — Irrlaija Roshale Hearne, the infant daughter of Michael and Stacie Hearne of Newport, died Sunday, June 23, 2002 at Newport.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by one sister, Fredaija Hearne of Newport; one brother, Kevanté Hearne of Newport; and her grandparents, Freddie Cain of Newport and George and Atritta Barnes and Harlan and Freda Sanders, all of Little Rock.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Gum Grove Cemetery
in Newport, with Gwendolyn Bennett officiating. Jackson’s Newport Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Bobbie E. Heskett, 46, of Jonesboro died Wednesday, June 26, 2002 at his home.
Survivors include his wife, Cheryl Heskett.
