Meta J. Baxter

Meta J. Baxter, 78, of Cabot, died Oct. 12, 2005. She was a former employee of Lever Bros. and a Baptist.

She is survived by one brother, Marion Ballard of Cabot; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Glen and Shirley Baxter of Jacksonville.

Funeral services were held Oct. 15 at Westbrook Funeral Home Chapel in Hazen. Burial was in the Walter’s Chapel Cemetery.

Dorothy Bridgeman

Dorothy Lucille Bridgeman, 89, of Oakland, CA, died Oct. 8, 2005.
She is survived by her brothers and sisters, Mabel Noble of Little Rock, Nadine Brotherton and Harriet Harris of Cabot, and Raymond Prine of Hazen; son, Marvin Bridgeman; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Interment was at the Chapel of the Chimes Cemetery in Hayward, CA.

Roy Lewis

Roy Lewis, 79, of El Dorado died Oct. 13, 2005.
He is survived by his companion Helen Crotty of Norphlet; and son, Chris Lewis.
Funeral services were held Oct. 16 at the First United Methodist Church of El Dorado. Interment was at the Resthaven Cemetery. Arrangements were by Youngs Funeral Directors.

Memorials may be made to Community Hospice in El Dorado, or to Union County Animal Protection Society.

Delma Lee Gross

Delma Lee Gross, 60, of Lonoke, Oct. 12, 2005.
Survivors include her son, Doug Gross of Des Arc; father and mother, Garland and Dorothy Johnson of Hunter; brothers, Raymond Shephard of Lonoke, Johnny Johnson of Shreveport, LA, and Stanley Johnson of Hunter; one grandchild and one great-grandchild.

Services were held Oct. 16 at the Garth Funeral Home Chapel in Des Arc with burial in Lakeside Cemetery by Garth Funeral Home.

Dorothy Mae O’Barr

Dorothy Mae O’Barr, 76, of North Little Rock, died Oct. 13, 2005. Dorothy was born in Cabot. She was a member of Graves Memorial Baptist Church.
She is survived by her son, John O’Barr; daughters, Daria Hunter, Claudia Hillma, Joyce Wilson, Linda Shadell and Nancy O’Barr Edwards; sisters, Betty Cruz, Barbara Darnell, Geraldine Worstell, Thelma Bixler, and Eva Peeks; 35 grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held held Oct. 17 at Graves Memorial Baptist Church. Interment at Edgewood Memorial Park.

Memorials may be made to Graves Memorial Baptist Church, Oak Grove Road, North Little Rock, Ark. 72118.

Arrangements were by Roller-Owens Funeral Home.

Lucille Tippitt

Lucille “Lucy” Tippitt, 81, of Little Rock, (formerly Cabot), died Oct. 16, 2005.
She is survived by her daughter, Connie Weis of Sheridan; two grandchildren; one great-grandson; sisters, Flossie Brown of Des Arc, Ann Evans of Memphis, TN, and Janie Rogers of Cabot; and brother, Pete Hudson of Flint, MI.
She retired in 1984 and was of the Baptist faith.

Visitation will be held at Griffin-Leggett Rest Hills, 7724 Landers Road, North Little Rock, (501) 835-3515, Oct. 19 from 2-4 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at Rest Hills Chapel on Thurs., Oct. 20, at 10 a.m.
Memorials be made to the Arkansas Children’s Hospital Foundation (364-1476).

Larry D. Matthews

Larry Deane Matthews, 59, of Cabot, died Oct. 15, 2005.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was employed with Perrini Arctic Association working on the Alaska Pipeline. He was a member of the Church of the Rock in Yellville.

He is survived by his children, Deana Matthews of Tampa, FL, Chris Matthews of Branson, MO, Dusty Matthews of Piggott, and Emily Matthews of Yellville; mother and stepfather, Alma and Willard Cash of Benton; siblings, Delores Drummond of Bismarck, Beverly Matthews of Heber Springs, Dennis Matthews of Bryant, Mike Cash of Benton, Cathy Sanford of Benton, and Sandra Cash of Jacksonville; and four grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Wed., Oct. 19, at Moore’s Jacksonville Funeral Chapel. Burial will be at Cold Springs Cemetery in Ferndale.

George B. Bennett

George Bartley Bennett, 86, of DeWitt, died Oct. 17, 2005. He was the owner of Bennett Paint and Floor Company, worked as a carpenter, served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of First Christian Church.
Survivors include his wife, Georgia Lorene Ruffin Bennett; children, Nancy Willett of Wright, Brenda Meins of Stuttgart, Karen Williams of DeWitt, David Bennett of Stuttgart, and Earl Bennett of Sidney, IL; 13 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wed., Oct. 19, at the Essex Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Almyra Cemetery.

Robert L. Capps

Robert L. Capps, 65, of Ward, Oct. 15, 2005. He was owner and operator of Capps Barber Shop in Jacksonville and a member of the First Christian Church in Beebe.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Myrna Capps; daughters, Angela Guinn, Patricia Capps and Jacqueline Capps of North Carolina, Racheal Hamby of Conway, and Grace Marie Kennedy of Cabot; and sons, Robert Michael Capps of Greenbrier, TN, and Shane Capps of Princeton, WV; sister, Ruth Hicks of Summerville, SC; and 14 grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held Wed., Oct. 19, at 10 a.m. at Griffin Leggett Rest Hills Chapel with Bill Rosnett officiating. Entombment will follow at Rest Hills Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to First Christian Church, 205 W. Georgia, Beebe, Ark. 72012. Attention: Ministerial Fund.

Dee Leslie Mathis

Dee Leslie Mathis, died Oct. 17, 2005.
He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Deborah Durham Mathis; five sons, Nolan, Leslie, Steven, Shane and Matthew; three daughters, Stacy, Deanna, and Sunny Scott; one brother, Glenn Mathis, Jr., four sisters, Opal Jones, Lonoke, Deanee, Keo, Horseshoe Lake, Shirley Pope Joy, Mablevale, Glynda Parks, Conway and special long life partner, friend, brother, etc. Doug Gordon; 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation, 9-a.m.-5 p.m. Wednesday at Boyd Funeral Home, Lonoke. Graveside services will be in Concord Cemetery 10 a.m. Thursday.

Zadie M. Witcher

Zadie Moncrief Witcher, age 94, of Searcy, died Oct. 17, 2005.
Mrs. Witcher is survived by two children: Charlene Lackie of Searcy, and Troy Witcher of Cabot; one sister, Monell Norman of Benton; one brother, Cleveland Moncrief of Payson;11 grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 20, 2005 at First Baptist Church in Searcy.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 20, 2005 at First Baptist Church in Searcy with Bro. Ken Shaddox and Bro. David Crouch officiating. Burial will be at Cypress Valley Cemetery in Vilonia.

Robert Litton

Robert Litton, 72, formerly of Conway, died Sunday, October 16, 2005 at his residence in Valdosta, Georgia following a lengthy illness.

He was born on March 31, 1933 in Lonoke to the late A.G. and Susie Litton. He graduated from Lonoke High School and attended the University of Central Arkansas. He was retired from General Electric and was a member of The Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his wife, Colleen Litton, a brother, W.C. Litton and a sister Betty Durst.

He is survived by two sons, Ed Litton of The Colony, Texas, Guy Litton (Arsenia) of Aubrey, Texas and one daughter, Suzanne Barnett (Hollis) of Valdosta, Georgia; three granddaughters, Connie Barnett, Katie Barnett, Valentina Litton and numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held in Lonoke Cemetery at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 22, 2005. The family will receive friends 5-7 p.m., Friday at Boyd Funeral Home, Lonoke.

Memorials may be made to the Cancer Society, Hospice of South Georgia or the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
Sandria Marie Gowen

Infant Sandria Marie Gowen of Ward, died Saturday, Oct. 15, 2005 at Searcy.
Survivors: her parents, Michael Gene and Kathy Jean (Razer) Gowen; maternal grandparents, Bruce and Ann Razer; and paternal grandmother, Paricia White.
Graveside services will be 4:20 p.m., Thursday at Oakland Cemetery. Arrangements by Jackson’s Newport Funeral Home.
