Erkle V. Loux Smith

Erkle V. Loux Smith, 93, of Cabot, died Sept. 6, 2005.
She worked for Safeway grocery for 25 years where she retired in 1976.
She is survived by her son, James (Jimmie) O. Smith of Little Rock; daughter, Joyce Ann Hardin, of Little Rock; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and sister, Geneva Hall of Jacksonville.

Funeral services were held Sept. 9 at Zion Hill Baptist Church. Burial was in the Sumner Cemetery. Arrangements were by North Little Rock Funeral Home.

Mary Lynn Watson

Mary Lynn Watson, 87, of Stuttgart, widow of Jeff Watson, died Sept. 6, 2005. She was a homemaker and a longtime member of Southside Baptist Church in Stuttgart.

Survivors include her son, Jeffrey L. Watson of Glenpool, OK; daughter, Sharon Cotner of Broken Arrow; sister, Vyda Cooter of Santa Rosa, CA; one granddaughter; two grandsons; and one great-granddaughter.

Funeral services were held Sept. 10 at Southside Baptist Church. Burial followed in the Brownsville Cemetery near Lonoke by Turpin Funeral Home of Stuttgart.

James E. Swaim, Jr.

James Edward Swaim, Jr., 72, of England, died on Sept. 7, 2005.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Barbara Gean Hudgens Swaim; sons Edward, Christian both of Little Rock, and Matthew Swaim of San Francisco; three grandsons; sisters, Lyn Swaim Robinson, of Little Rock, Betty Ramsey, of North Little Rock.

After attending the University of Arkansas, James Ed served in the U.S. Army at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio. He served on the board of the Lonoke County Museum.

A graveside service was held at Mulberry Cemetery in England on Sept. 10. Memorials may be made to the CARTI Foundation, P.O. Box 55011, Little Rock, Ark. 72215; or the Lonoke County Museum, P.O. Box 873, Lonoke, Ark. 72086.

Gaylon W. Shanks

Gaylon Wayne Shanks, 30, of Lonoke died Sept. 7, 2005.
Survivors include his sons, Justin Tye Shanks and Cody Dewayne Shanks; parents, Dewayne and Jean Shanks; and one brother, Kenneth Kissinger.
Funeral services were held Sept. 11 at the Assembly of God Church in Des Arc with burial in Lakeside Cemetery by Garth Funeral Home of Des Arc.

Roger W. Helton

Roger W. Helton, 66, of Russellville, formerly of North Little Rock, died Sept. 8, 2005. He retired from Harvest Foods after 28 years of service.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Shirley Helton, of Russellville; two daughters, Renee Rhoads of North Little Rock and Cindy Jones of Russellville; son, Keith Helton of North Little Rock; sisters, Barbara Odom, of Cabot and Linda Pruitt, of Oklahoma; brother, Robert Helton, of Cabot; three grandsons; and one step-grandson.

Funeral services were held Sept. 12 at the North Little Rock Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in Edgewood Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Arkansas Hospice of Russellville, 2504 E. Parkway, Suite 3, Russellville, Ark. 72801.

Elizabeth M. Peebles

Elizabeth Marie Jackson Peebles, 91, of Augusta, died Sept. 8, 2005.
Survivors include her sons, Thomas W. Peebles of Ward, and Edward A. Peebles of Vicksburg, MS; daughters, Claudia “Penny” Maguire and Martha Ward both of Augusta; sister, Eloise Kuhn of Searcy; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

A funeral service was held at The Heritage Center in Augusta with interment in Augusta Memorial Park.

Angeline F. Haynes

Angeline F. Haynes, 82, of Ward, died Sept. 9, 2005.
She is survived by her husband, Donald Haynes of Ward; son, Marvin E. of Raytown, MO; two step-children, Donald A. Haynes of Deming, N.M., and Mary J. Blaney of Wichita, KS; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Memorial services were held Sept. 12, at the Moore’s Cabot Funeral Home.

Betty S. Hamrick
Betty Sue Hamrick, age 67, of Cabot, died Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2005 in Jacksonville.

Survivors include three sons: Cecil Hamrick, Donnie Hamrick and Mike Hamrick; one daughter Karen Latourrette all of Austin; two sisters, Olene Whitley of North Little Rock and Mary Lou Franks of Texas; two brothers, William Jackson of North Little Rock and Jerry Wayne Jackson of Missouri; seven grandchildren; three great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 30, 2005 with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, 2005 at Christ Worship Center in Cabot with Rev. Thomas Heffner officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Cabot. Arrangements by Thomas Funeral Service.
William R. Hudgens
William Randle Hudgens, 90, of Lonoke, died on September 21, 2005. He loved to work even into his 80s as an avid gardener who helped plant the Bradford pear trees along Hwy. 70 in Lonoke and worked tirelessly at the city ballpark. He was active in his church, delivering tapes and literature to shut-ins. Randle was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, two sisters and a granddaughter Kelle Cates. Survivors include his wife of seventy years, Connie Saulters Hudgens of Lonoke; Daughters Joyce Cates (David) of North Little Rock and Sandra Evans (Lenville) of Lonoke; grandchildren, Lynn Dyer (Gary) of Sherwood, Shari Cates of Paron, Jamye Ganis (Woody) of Sherwood, Tammy Evans of Okinawa, Japan, and Bill Evans (Lynda) of Tyler, Texas; great-grandchildren, Dustin and Josh Dyer, Matthew and Sydney Ganis, and Emily and Lauren Evans.; sister Doris Garrett of Cabot and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by a faithful caretaker, Pat Jones. Services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, September 23 at Lonoke Baptist Church with interment in Mulberry Cemetery, England. Family received friends Thursday 6-8 p.m. at Boyd Funeral Home, Lonoke. Memorial may be made to Lonoke Baptist Church Building Fund.

Mildred Minton
Mildred “Blondie” Minton, age 75, of Ward, Arkansas, died Thursday, September 22, 2005. She was a retired dairy farmer and housewife and an expert cook. She was a member of Old Austin Methodist Church and was the1992 Ms. Arkansas Senior. Mildred loved to entertain people where she played the guitar and sang. She loved to ride her four-wheeler, and check her fishing lake.

She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-seven years, Leon; and is survived by two sons, Randy Minton and wife Jannette, and Terry Minton and wife Suzanne, all of Ward; four grandchildren, Jake and wife Jami, Josh and wife Shelley, all of Sherwood, Lucas and wife Jamie of Little Rock and Lauren and husband Patrick Byrns of Cabot; and one brother, Gerald Morris and wife Pat of Tucson, Arizona.

Family received friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Saturday at Westbrook Funeral Home, Beebe. Funeral was 2:00 p.m. Sunday, September 25, 2005, at Old Austin Methodist Church, with burial in Sylvania Cemetery.

Caren Kay Beatty
Caren Kay Beatty, 34, of Cabot, died Sept. 20, 2005.
Survivors include her son, Austin Dakota Beatty of the home; mother, Glenda Canard of Cabot; and brother, James Canard of Jacksonville.

Funeral services were Sept. 22 at the Thomas Funeral Service with interment following at 16th Section Cemetery in Ward.

Dorothy B. McGee
Dorothy Butler McGee, 79, of Lonoke, died Sept. 21, 2005.
Survivors include her daughter, Glenda Edge of Hazen; sons, Cecil McGee of Maumelle and Leland McGee of Monticello; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and brother, Curtis Butler of Lonoke.

Funeral services were held Sept. 23 at New Testament Baptist Church with interment in Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Memorials may be made to the New Testament Missionary Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 55, Lonoke, Ark. 72086. Arrangements were by Boyd Funeral Home.

Edith L. Burnett
Edith Lorine Hairston Burnett, 92, of Jacksonville, died Sept. 22, 2005.
She was a member of the New Testament Missionary Baptist Church in Lonoke.
She is survived by her children, Jerry Roger Burnett of Jacksonville, Vina Sue Aultman of Scott, Helen Ruth Harper of Sheridan, and Dwight James Burnett of Jacksonville; brother, Lester Hairston of Mobile, AL; 13 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were Sat., Sept. 24, at the Pleasant Valley Church, Conway with Rev. Doug Hambrick officiating.

Interment followed at the Pleasant Valley Cemetery.
Funeral arrangements under direction of Moore’s Jacksonville Funeral Home.

Roy Edward Crook
Roy Edward Crook, 49, of Benton, died Sept. 21, 2005.
He was a salesman for Bolt Industries and a member of the Temple Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Cynthia L. Crook of Benton; daughter, Leticia A. Baker of Benton; mother, Helen Crook of Bryant; brothers, Ricky Crook of Lonoke; Randy Crook of Haskell; sister, Judy Kincaid of Hensley; and two grandchildren.

Graveside services were held Sept. 24 at the Pinecrest Cemetery by Ashby Funeral Home.

Billy Jewel Good
Billy Jewel Good, 81, of Little Rock, died Sept. 22, 2005.
He attended Lonoke High School. He graduated from the University of Arkansas. He retired from the University of New Orleans in order to pursue art as his full-time career. He participated in numerous exhibitions, including a show to help raise funds for the Arkansas Children’s Hospital.

He is survived by his wife; two sons; four grandsons; one brother; and two sisters.
Funeral service was Sept. 24 in the Chapel of Griffin Leggett Forest Hills. Burial followed at Forest Hills Memorial Park.

Memorial may be made to UALR Art Department.
