Pvt. Landon S. Giles

Memorial services for Pvt. Landon S. Giles, the active-duty Army soldier from Arkansas who was killed in action last week in Iraq, were March 6 at the Third Street Baptist Church in Arkadelphia. The internment took place following the funeral service at the Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in Arkadelphia.

Pvt. Landon S. Giles of Arkadelphia, Ark., 19, died Feb. 26 in Abertha, Iraq, when an improvised explosive device detonated while he was on patrol. Giles was assigned to the Army's 6th Squadron, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Ga.

Pvt. Giles was born Feb. 1, 1986 in Arkadelphia and graduated from Arkadelphia High School in 2004. He entered the Army in June of 2004 as indirect fire infantryman. Pvt. Giles is survived by his mother and father, fours sisters and one brother.

The family requests the media be respectful of their privacy during their time of grief. While media are welcome to cover the service, the family will not be granting any interviews.

Ida Mae Stecks

Ida Mae Stecks went to be with the Lord on March 6, 2005. Born October 13, 1916, the last of eight children, to Ida May Bevis and William Charles Eagle, she was preceded in death by all her siblings, sisters, Edith Eagle and Frances Gateley McRae; brothers, Dan, C.F. “Todd”, Walter, Shelby and Oscar “Bill” Eagle.

Ida Mae and her husband Carl, the love of her life for 68 years, worked side by side in their farming operation at Scott, AR. Her life was a testimony for the love, joy and care she so generously gave and abundantly received. Though small in stature, yet gentle in spirit, she was fiercely devoted to her family and many close friends. “Miss Ida Mae” loved to interact with other people and never met a stranger. Her legacy is a treasure of wonderful memories shared by her family and friends. We ALL will miss her.

Survivors are her husband, Carl;and her children Carl, Jr. “Freddie” and Jane Stecks, Michael and Jo Anne Stecks, Brenda and Randall Smith; Grandchildren, Carl III “Trey” Stecks and sons, Carl IV “Quad” and Ethan; Greg Stecks, Leigh and Brendan Quirk and children Lily and James; Kevin and Alecia Stecks; Michael Stecks, Jr. and daughter Kennedy; Ami Stecks; Sarah, Stephen, Ben and Eric Smith; sister-in-law, Eunice Watson of England and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Thursday, March 10th at Lonoke United Methodist Church, where she was a member for over 50 years. Interment will follow in Lonoke Cemetery, by Boyd Funeral Home of Lonoke. The family will receive friends, 5 to 7 PM Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Arkansas Children’s Hospital or Lonoke United Methodist Church.

Clay Derick Allison

Clay Derick Allison, age 21, of Austin, died March 7, 2005. He was an employee of Fox Quality Pools. He was a 2002 graduate of Cabot High School and had attended ASU-Beebe. Clay was a member of Sylvania Presbyterian Church. He is survived by his parents, Rodney and Jo Beth Allison; his grandparents, Bonnie and Gene Allison, all of Austin; his half brother, John Greer of Cabot; his aunt and uncle, Bill and Kay Spence and cousins Matt Spence of Austin and Jason Moore of Cabot; his aunt and uncle Dickie and Jan Hughes of Ward, his cousin Bethany and husband Shane Hill and their children, Tyler and Garrett Hill, of Cabot; his godmother, Charlene Patty of Ward, and a host of relatives and friends.

Family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Westbrook Funeral Home, Beebe. Graveside service will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, March 10, 2005, at Sylvania Cemetery.

Gary L. Roberts, Jr.

Gary Lynn Roberts, Jr., 33, of Jacksonville died Friday, March 4, 2005. Gary was employed by North Little Rock SoftWater as a delivery driver.

He is survived by his parents, Sandra and Robert A. Mahoney of Jacksonville, Gary Lynn and Regina Healy Roberts, Sr. of Sherwood; four brothers, Robert Mahoney, Jr. of Jacksonville, Adam Mahoney of Jacksonville, Marcus Mahoney of Austin and Aaron Roberts of Sherwood; two sisters, Cheryl Ann Roberts and Allison Grace Roberts, both of Sherwood; grandparents, Ver-non and Lavene Rodgers of North Little Rock and Velma Roberts of Cabot.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Friday, March 11, 2005 at the First Baptist Church in Sherwood with Rev. Paul McClung and Rev. Royce Lowe officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Cabot. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, March 10, at Cabot Funeral Home, which is in charge of arrangements.

Markus Strickland

Markus Gordan Strickland, infant, of Cabot died Feb. 28, 2005.
Survivors include parents: Michael Strickland and Brandi Belshe; brother, Michael Strickland Jr. all of Cabot; grandparents, Auther Graessle, Sherry White, Stacy & Bobby Moss and Dale Belshe; great-grandparents, Vernon Strickland and Richard and Karen Sweet.

Graveside Services were Thursday March 3, 2005 at Short Cemetery in Butlerville. Arrangements by Thomas Funeral Service.

Joshua A. Moore

Joshua Albert Moore of Ward, died Feb. 27, 2005. He was born July 18, 1983 in North Little Rock. Josh graduated from Cabot High School in 2001 at which time he went to work for Langer Construction Company of Ward as a carpenter. He was a member of Cocklebur Baptist Church, where he was saved and baptized at the age of six.

He is survived by his parents, William H. and Libby (Flowers) Moore of Ward; his daughter, Shyann Moore and her mother, Courtney Wells, also of Ward; his brother, Jacob Lee Moore of Ward; his sister, Beth Simpson of Bull Shoals; his brother, Jason Moore; his brother, Dusty of Carrollton, Ga.; his grandmothers Elizabeth Ellen Flowers and Elizabeth M. Moore, both of North Little Rock.

Family received friends Thursday at Westbrook Funeral Home, Beebe. Funeral was 10 a.m. Friday, March 4, 2005, at Westbrook Funeral Home, with burial in Pinecrest Memorial Park.

Rhoten Curtis Rhea

Rhoten Curtis Rhea age 89, of Little Rock, died Wednesday, March 2, 2005.
He attended a Baptist Church in Orosi, Calif. He then enlisted in U.S. Army. Discharged from 17th infantry at Ft. Ord, Calif. He enlisted in the Air Force and retired 1962. Having served an enlistment of 20 years.

Curtis is survived by four sons Robert Elmo Rhea, Billy Curtis Rhea, of Romance, Paul Edward Rhea, Jodie Clifton Rhea, of Reedley, California and daughter, Jan Darlin Bridges, of Granbury, Texas. Also survived by three sisters Cotsy Chenault, of Little Rock, Jewel McMonagle, of New Brockton, Ala.,Virginia Smith, of Cabot. Several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Graveside service was held Friday, March 4, 2005 at Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery, with Marion Reynolds officiating. Funeral arrangements provided by Griffin Leggett Rest Hills Funeral Home.

Iva Lee Wright

Iva Lee Wilson Wright, age 83, went to be with the Lord March 5, 2005. She loved life and lived for her family. She was an active member of Landmark Missionary Baptist Church. Known as “Grandma” she worked for Carlisle Public Schools and was active in Girl Scouts for years. She loved to camp and entertain. Her last words to her family were “I Love You” and be sure and tell everyone else that she loved them, too. Her husband, Olen L. Wright and a daughter, Shellah Wright preceded her in death. Survivors include daughters, Anita DuBose (Kenneth) of St. Charles, Mo., Delores Hobbs (Robin) of Damascus, Debbie Reaves (Delbert) and Brenda Horner (Monty) and a son, Bill Sears, all of Carlisle; sisters, Eva Mae Linam of Donaldson and Juanita Kinkead of Oklahoma; brothers, Bobby Wilson of Carlisle and Teddy Wilson of Benton; grandchildren, Tina White (David ), Gary DuBose (Cecelia), David Harness, Carlene Lee, Lynnette Ward (Jeff ), Allison Goodman (Justin) ; great-grandchildren, Hannah, Ben, Karissa, James, Jared, Samuel, Olivia, Jake, Jessica and Madison.

Funeral services were 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at Landmark Baptist Church, Carlisle. Burial followed in Carlisle Cemetery, arrangements by Boyd Funeral Home, Lonoke. The family received friends 6-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Ernest Turanyi

Ernest Turanyi, age 85, of Cabot, died March 6, 2005. He retired from the United States Air Force where he was in Base Operations.

Survivors include three daughters: Sandra Menzie of Beebe, Barbara Morrow of Alaska and Darlene Richards of Colorado; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, one brother and one sister.
Private services were held at the National Cemetery in Little Rock. Arrangements by Thomas Funeral Service.

Wanda Glen Martin

Wanda Glen Martin, 78, of Cabot, died Feb. 28, 2005.
She was a member of The Cabot Church of Christ, retired school teacher, member of The Red Hat Society and active in the Cabot, Lonoke County and surrounding area senior citizen centers.
She is survived by son, Robert W. of Cabot; sister, Mabel Cook of Jackson, MS.; two grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Funeral services were held March 3, at Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Stamps, with burial in Falcon Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Cabot Church of Christ.

Troy L. Carpenter

Troy Lynn Carpenter, 49, of California, died Feb. 27, 2005.
He is survived by daughters, Tramra L. and Threresa L. Carpenter of Norman, OK; one granddaughter; his mother, Betty Dotore of Austin; father, Louis Carpenter and brother, Wayne Carpenter both of Lonoke; sisters, Emma Lee Carpenter of OK, Martha Jane Sanders of Jacksonville and Joyce Ann Pittman of Lancaster, CA.

Funeral Services were Fri., March 3, at Boyd Funeral Home, Lonoke. Interment followed in Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Bill McCann

Bill McCann, 75, of Little Rock, died March 1, 2005.
He was a retired Building contractor and a mason with the Lonoke Lodge #51.
He is survived by his wife, Nora McCann, of Little Rock; daughters, Patsy McCann and Nina Snyder of Lonoke; stepsons, Wayne and Rick Kennemer, both of Little Rock; stepdaughter, Pam Mitchell, of Conway; brother, Forrest McCann; sister, Virginia Adams, both of Lonoke; 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held March 5, at North Little Rock Funeral Home Chapel.
Interment was in the Pinecrest Memorial Park.

Marcie Cardwell

Marcie Cardwell, 62, of Lonoke, died on Feb. 27, 2005.
Survivors include daughter, Delpheen Cardwell of Sherwood; sons, Jamie Cardwell of Texas and Stanley Samuel of Little Rock; five sisters; four brothers; and five grandchildren.

Funeral Services were Sat., March 5, at St. John Baptist Church with interment in Sunset Gardens both in Lonoke.

Clayton E. Warren

Clayton “Clay” Emmett Warren, 20, of Cabot, died Feb. 27, 2005.
Survivors include his mother, Vicki; sister, Jessica A. Warren; and grandparents, Norma and Ken Glover.

Funeral services were held March 4, at the First Baptist Church in Cabot with Rev. Dennis Phelps & Rev. Rod Loy officiating.

Interment followed at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Cabot.
