LeRoy Barber
LeRoy Barber, 84, of Sherwood, died Monday, Feb. 23, 2004.
He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and the
Korean War. After the war, he was a County Extension Agent for the Arkansas Agricultural Extension Service for 35 years until retiring in 1977. He was a member of Sylvan Hills Church of Christ in Sherwood.
He is survived by his wife, Memory, of the home; two sons, Glenn Barber of Sherwood, Rob Barber of Larkspur, Colo.; five grandchildren ; six great-grandchildren; four sisters, Hester Childs of Hamilton, Ohio, Arletha Rodriquez of Tulsa, Okla., Allie Jo Mills of Sand Springs, Okla., Helen Jean Philpot of Mena, Ark.; brother, Elisha Barber Jr. of Little Rock.
Funeral services were Feb. 26, in the chapel of Moore’s Jacksonville Funeral Home with burial at Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery
in North Little Rock.
Lula Mae Fraser
Lula Mae Fraser, 87, of Cabot died Feb. 23, 2004.
She is survived by two sons - Samuel Lee Fraser of Georgia and Roger Fraser of Sherwood; four grandchildren; a sister, Frances Rhineheart.
Funeral services are 2 p.m. Saturday at Winkenhoffer Pine Ridge Funeral Home, 2950 North Cobb Parkway, Kennesaw, Ga. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens in Cartersville, Ga. Local arrangements by Huson Funeral Home, Sherwood.
Velma M. Jackson
Velma M. Jackson, age 71, of Judsonia, Arkansas, died Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2004. She was a retired employee of Speed Queen in Searcy.
She is survived by four sons, Ed Cloinger of Pine Bluff, Benny and Tom Cloinger both of Benton and Leonard Galloway of Bradford; four daughters, Betty Barton and Aretta Rhoads both of West Plains, Mo., Michele Cloinger of Austin and Jeannie Carter of Richardson, Texas; two brothers, Billy Ragan of Watson and Lester Ragan of McGehee; one sister, Bettye Badgley of Lake Village; 12 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren.
Visitation was Friday at Westbrook Funeral Home, Beebe. Funeral was Saturday, Feb. 28, 2004, at First Church of the Nazarene, McGehee, with burial in McGehee Cemetery.
Johnny Hill
Johnny Hill, 68, of Longview TX went home to glory on Feb. 27, 2004. He was preceded in death by his father, A.G. “Dub” Hill. Survivors are his mother, Beatrice Hill of CA; brothers, Bob Hill of CA, Richard Hill of Cabot.
Burial will be in Longview, TX. Arrangements by Cabot Funeral Home.
Pauline Smith
Pauline Smith, 84, of Lonoke, passed away on February 25, 2004. She was greatly loved by family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred W. Smith. Survivors include one son, Fred W. Smith, Jr. of Plano, Texas and one daughter, Cindy Hamilton of Lonoke; four granddaughters, two grandsons, and five great-grandchildren; her sister, Marie Ferguson of Tulsa, Oklahoma and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services were 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 27, at Lonoke First United Methodist Church with interment at Cordell, Okla. Arrangements were by Boyd Funeral Home, Lonoke.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lonoke First United Methodist Church or Lonoke County Open Arms Shelter.
Arnold Wallace
Arnold Wallace, age 79, of Beebe, died March 1, 2004.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Vada Wallace; one son, Weldon Wallace of Beebe; two daughters, Lenda Harmon of McRae, and Sandra Pauschert of Carlisle; 5 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchldren; three sisters, Edith Cox, Jane Brock and Oretha Cornelius, all of Texas.
Graveside service was Tuesday, March 2, 2004, at Stoney Point Cemetery, Beebe.
Geraldine Cochran
Geraldine Roe Cochran, 84, of Plainfield, Ind., a native of Des Arc, died Jan. 8, 2004.
She was a 1937 graduate of Des Arc High School. After graduating, she taught school at Brown Grove and Cross Roads rural schools. After marrying Homer Cochran of Lonoke, she received her bachelor’s degree from Texas Wesleyan University in Fort Worth, Texas. She taught school for many more years and received her master’s degree from Indiana State University.
Survivors include two daughters, Januce Scott of Santarem, Para Brazil (South America), and Susan Fair of Lakeland, Fla., one brother, Louis H. Roe of Irving, Texas; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services were held Jan. 11 at Plainfield Baptist Church.

Thomas E. Pless
Thomas E. Pless,77, of Glendale, Ariz. died Feb. 12, 2004.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda Pless; six children; and nine siblings, including Anna Lou Burgess of Lonoke.
A memorial service was held Feb. 19 at First Southern Baptist Church of Sahuaro Ranch, Glendale, Ariz.
Rickey Cotham
Rickey Cotham, 51, died Sunday.
Survivors: mother, Patsy Shue Cotham; brothers - Gary Cotham, Galveston, Texas, Larry Cotham, Marianna; sisters - Deborah Skinner, Donna Waggle, Ward.

Ryan J. Washington
Ryan Jacob Washington of Little Rock was born October 12, 2002. He died Feb. 21, 2004.
Funeral service was Feb. 25, at Premier Funeral Home. Burial was in Carlisle Cemetery. Services entrusted to Premier Funeral Home, Little Rock.
Gary Alan Skarda
Gary Alan Skarda, age 56, of Hazen died Monday, Feb. 23, 2004.
He had been a crop duster for 34 years. He was a member of the Arkansas Ag. Association, a lifetime member of the Confederate Air Force, the EAA War Birds, the A.O.P.A., Air National Guard, sec.-treas. of Czech National Cemetery, and a member of the First United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Dotsy Skarda; one son, Joseph Skarda of Little Rock; one brother, Randy Joe Skarda of Hazen; one sister, Connie Skarda of Dallas, Texas.
Funeral services were Feb. 26, at the First United Methodist Church in Hazen. Interment was in the Czech National Cemetery.
Lee Elik Ingle
Lee Elik Ingle, of Carlisle, died Feb. 25, 2004 at the age of 91.
He served in the U.S. Army where he received many medals.
He is survived by one daughter, Sissy Drye of Carlisle; four sons, Dennis Ingle of Judsonia, Terry Ingle, Jerry Ingle, and Roger Ingle all of Carlisle; a stepson, Billy Warner of Little Rock; two stepdaughters, Joan Turner of Carlisle and Janie Adams of Little Rock; brother Leonard Ingle; sister Sena Baxter, both of Des Arc; 26 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren ; and three great-great-grandchildren.
He was a deacon at New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church and later at Landmark Missionary Baptist Church.
Funeral services were Feb. 27, at Landmark Missionary Baptist Church in Carlisle. Interment was in the Carlisle Cemetery. Arrangements were by Westbrook Funeral Home of Hazen.
Mark Steven Ragan
Mark Steven Ragan, age 47, died Feb. 21, 2004.
He is survived by his wife of seven years, Annette Ragan; one daughter, Michelle Wingerd of Grapevine; mother, June Ragan of Grapevine; father, Claude Ragan of Hendersonville, N.C.; two sisters, Sara Hamilton of Hendersonville, N.C., Beverly Hill of Grapevine; and one brother, Tom Ragan of Northport, Fla.
Funeral services were Feb. 28, at Essex Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Cedarcrest Memorial Gardens by Essex Funeral Home, DeWitt.
Betty Jo Haake
Betty Jo Beaty Tillman Haake, 70, of Melbourne, formerly of Carlisle, died Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2004.
She is survived by three daughters, Cindy Parker of Melbourne, Helen Haake of Dallas, and Vickie Burton of Battleground, Wash.; two sons, Jim E. Tillman Jr. of Dyersburg, Tenn., and David Haake, currently serving in the U.S. Army in Germany; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were Feb. 28, at the First Baptist Church, in Melbourne with graveside services in the Carlisle Cemetery
by Westbrook Funeral Home in Hazen.
