William M. Whalin Jr.

William Maston Whalin Jr., 83, of Jacksonville died July 25, 2003.

He retired as major after 21 years of service with the U.S. Air Force, serving in World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Jacksonville.

Survivors are his wife of 59 years, Flora Merle; sons, Charles E. Whalin and William M. Whalin; three grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral was July 29 at the First United Methodist Church in Jacksonville, followed by interment in Rest Hills Cemeter, North Little Rock. Moore’s Jacksonville Funeral was in charge.

Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church Building Fund, 220 W. Main, Jacksonville, 72076, or Baptist Hospice, 11900 Col. Glenn. Rd., Suite 2300, Little Rock, 72210.

Mary Irene Ives

Mary Irene Ives, 91, of Lonoke, formerly of North Little Rock, died July 23, 2003.

She was a nurse and retired from Baptist Hospital after 24 years of service. She was a member of Brockington Rd. First Church of the Nazarene.

Funeral was Saturday at North Little Rock Funeral Home Chapel, with committal service at Carlisle Cemetery.

Leo Johnson

Leo “Sponny” Johnson, 59, of Lonoke died July 23, 2003.

Survivors are his wife, Essie Givens Johnson; children, Darren Johnson of Maryland, Leon, Latonda and LaRhonda Johnson, all of Lonoke; Eric, Kevin and Angelene Johnson, all of North Little Rock, Dana Johnson of New York and Tandra Slater of Scott; 25 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers; and five sisters.

Funeral was Tuesday at Progressive Church, Scott, with interment in Simmons Cemetery by Boyd Funeral Home of Lonoke.

Ronald Lynn Craig

Ronald Lynn “R.L.” Craig, age 66, of Cabot died Tuesday, July 22, 2003.
He was a Vietnam Veteran, retired from U.S. Navy after 20 years of service, and former pastor of First Landmark Missionary Baptist Church in Ward.

He is survived by three children, Ron Craig of Cabot, Susan Starks of Monticello and Linda Keesee of Cabot, seven grandchildren, four brothers, James Craig and Thurl Craig both of Mountain View, W.J. Craig of Timbo, Kenneth M. Craig of Coloma, Mich., and one sister, Geraldine Church of Salem.

Services were at 11 a.m. Friday, July 25, 2003 at Roller Coffman Chapel in Mountain View. Internment will was at Fredonia Cemetery in Mountain View. Arrangements by Thomas Funeral Service, Cabot. Donations may be made to the American Heart Association.

Eule C. Atterberry

Eule C. Atterberry, 84, died Thursday July 24, 2003 in Cabot, AR. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and 2 brothers. He is survived by his daughter, Barbara Allen of Cabot; 4 sisters, Ruth Moore of Cabot, Pat Wood of Cabot, Ruby Beene of Greenbrier, Ona Rockwell of Traskwood; 1 granddaughter, Jennifer Corbin and husband T.J. of Cabot; 1 great-granddaughter, Bailey Mae Corbin of Cabot; 1 special niece, Jean Hale and husband Billy of Cabot.

Arrangements by Cabot Funeral Home, 501-843-5816.
Services were held Saturday, July 26, 2003 at 2 p.m. at the Cabot Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Mt. Carmel Cemetery. Arrangements by Cabot Funeral Home, 501-843-5816.

Rita Ann Bailey

Rita Ann Bailey, age 62, passed away July 28, 2003. She was a member of Palm Street Church of Christ; worked 21 years as a payroll clerk for Franke’s Cafeteria and a bookkeeper 17 years at Boyd Funeral Home. Survivors include her sister, Betty Sue Cox; nieces, Ramona (Tony) Cole and Rita Beth (Johnny) Crosby all of Lonoke and Rebecca (Wes) Miller of Carlisle; great-nieces, Amanda, Jaymee, Samantha and Kaitlin Crosby, Jessica and Destiny Miller and great-nephew, William Cox and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents Cecil Utley and Elsie Brown Bailey and brother-in-law E.J. Cox. Graveside Services will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday at Sunset Memorial Gardens with arrangements by Boyd Funeral Home, Lonoke. The family will receive friends, Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Palm Street Church of Christ, Lonoke.

Lillian Arthur Fletcher

Lillian Arthur Fletcher age 90 of Lonoke died June 23, 2003. She was an active member of First United Methodist Church in Lonoke, Lonoke Book Club and Charter member of Lonoke Historical Society. She was a former member of Daughters of the American Revolution and All Souls Interdenominational Church in Scott for 40 years, where she was a Sunday school teacher. She is survived by her daughter Mary Fletcher Iglinsky and husband Clyde of Fayetteville, her son, William J. “Billi” Fletcher and wife Betty Steel of Lonoke, a daughter-in-law Jane Riddle Fletcher of North Little Rock, 4 grandchildren, William Steel Fletcher and wife Sissy, Michael Blake Fletcher and wife Jill, all of Lonoke, Kathleen Elizabeth Fletcher and Ryan Edward Fletcher of North Little Rock, and 1 great-grandchild William Anderson Fletcher of Lonoke.
Her husband, W.J. Fletcher Sr. and a son, Arthur E. Fletcher, preceded her in death.
A memorial service was held 10 a.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church in Lonoke, by Boyd Funeral Home. The family requests in lieu of flowers memorials are made to First United Methodist Church in Lonoke or to your favorite charity. The family will receive friends at her home.

Ricky Wayne Draper

Ricky Wayne Raper, age 42 of Ward died June 22, 2003.
Survivors include His wife, Toye Raper, daughter Rikki Michelle Raper and Julie Raper of Ward, son, Aaron Raper of Odessa, Texas, brothers, Jimmy Raper of Floyd, Ronnie Raper of Lonoke, Bobby Raper of Jacksonville, Billy Langdon of Jacksonville, Jodie Carlock and Michael Raper both of Ward, sister, Sharon Calavere of New Hampshire. Services were Wednesday at Concord Methodist Church with interment at Monk Cemetery in Ward by Boyd Funeral Home of Lonoke. Memorials may be made to Ricky Raper Memorial fund, 102 Furlow Loop, Lonoke, AR 72086.

Lena Mae Ulmer

Lena Mae Ulmer, 77, of Cabot died Sunday. She was preceded in death by parents, Walter and Dora Burke, and husband, Herman Ulmer. She is survived by 2 brothers, Joe and Virgil Burke of Prescott AR; 3 sisters, Elsie Smith, Julia Polston and Bessie Moorehead.

Funeral Services were at Cabot Funeral Home Chapel Wednesday, June 25 at 1:00 pm with interment at AR Veteran’s Cemetery. Arrangements by Cabot Funeral Home, 501-843-5816.

Arnold Theadore

Arnold Theadore Ivey, age 83, died June 22, 2003. He is survived by his wife, Frances Heigle Ivey, his children, James Ivey and Larry Ivey of California, Mary Howard of Higden, Lloyd Ivey of Texarkana and Kathy Geones of Jacksonville; brothers, Billy Joe Ivey of Cabot, sisters, Ruby Brandon of Texas, Dorothy Rychlowski of Missouri, Betty Heigle of California, Carlion Rischar of Florida, Juanita Distefano of Nebraska, Peggy Rubb of Virginia, Doris Sayles of Missouri, Joe Ann Miller of Pennsylvania, Terry Ann Holland of Jacksonville and Rebecca Nava of New Mexico; 18 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Funeral Services will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday at Boyd Chapel with interment in Lonoke Cemetery by Boyd Funeral Home, Lonoke.Visitation, 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral Home.

Maggie Irene Webb

Maggie Irene Webb, 85, passed away at home on Saturday, June 21 of breast cancer. Born 6/20/18 near Cabot, Arkansas, she was the last surviving child of Robert W. Carmical and Ida Williamson Carmical. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, John Wesley Webb; two daughters, Carolyn Webb Cash and Evelyn Webb, all of Sherwood. She is also survived by a granddaughter, Melissa Cash Whiting and husband, Drew, and great-granddaughter, Makayla Whiting of Gillett.

Mrs. Webb was a Baptist and a homemaker. Graveside Services were at Sumner Cemetery, near Cabot, on Tuesday, June 24 at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be at Cabot Funeral Home on Monday, June 23. The family was at 9903 Farris Ave., Sherwood, AR. Arrangements by Cabot Funeral Home, 501-843-5816.

Roy Jerome Gerald

Roy Jerome Gerald, Sr. was born February 11, 1910 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He began his lifetime of work as a paperboy for the Baton Rouge State Times. He delivered papers and went to school by horseback. In 1924 at the age of fourteen, Mr. Gerald became an office boy for Standard Oil Company in Baton Rouge and worked faithfully until he was promoted to the position of supervisor. He married Mary Beatrice Cannon in 1930 and had two children, Roy Jerome Gerald, Jr., and JoAnn Gerald. He continued to work for Standard Oil, which later became Exxon and retired at the age of 55.

Although he was always industrious and faithful to his work, the center of Bro. Gerald’s life was his relationship with God, his family, and his life in the church community. He and his wife raised both their children with a great love for God and people, and both of them became active in ministry, Rev. Roy Gerald in St Louis, Missouri, and Mrs. JoAnn Sjostrand in Lonoke, Arkansas.

In 1975 Bro.Gerald and his wife moved to Lonoke, Arkansas to be with his daughter, son-in-law, and grandson. For the next 27 years, he was a pillar in his family, church and community. Bro. Gerald served faithfully as usher, trustee and member in good standing of the Apostolic church. As he grew older, Bro. Gerald became Papa Roy to a whole generation of children in the church and the community where he lived. He was even awarded a certificate of appreciation by Lonoke Elementary School as “Grandad” of the school. Papa Roy’s life is recorded in the hearts of the people with whom he served, and his love for God and people lives in his grandchildren, all of whom are currently involved in ministry.

Monday, June 23, 2003, Bro.Gerald was discharged from his life of service at the age of 93 years old. He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years and is survived by his two children: Rev. Roy J. Gerald, Jr. (Barbara) of St. Louis, Missouri; Mrs. JoAnn Sjostrand (Rev. Donald Sjostrand) of Lonoke, three grandchildren, Mrs. Melodye Gerald Munsey (Rev. Stephen K. Munsey) of Munster, Indiana, Rev. Gerald Keith Sjostrand (Janice) of Lonoke, and Rev. Kevin J. Gerald (Sheila) of Tacoma, Washington, five great-grandchildren; Candace Munsey, Kent Munsey (Allie), Jodi Gerald, Sheena Sjostrand and Caitlin Sjostrand and two great-great grandchildren, Chantel and Shealee Munsey.

Services were at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Apostolic Church in Lonoke with interment following Friday in Louisiana.

Richard L. Hutson Jr.

Richard Leon Hutson Jr., 51, of Austin died June 17, 2003.

He is survived by his wife, Robbin Crossland Hutson; a son, Richard; daughter, LeAnn; brother, Bryan Hutson; sister, Debbie Gammel; parents, Richard and Ann Hutson Sr.; and grandchildren, Olivia Hutson, and Ryan and Nicole Prince.
He was a member of Union Valley Baptist Church.

Funeral was Friday at Huson Funeral Home Chapel, Little Rock, with Rev. David Gammel and Rev. Emery Crossland officiating. Interment was in Salem Cemetery in Lonoke County.

Willie Lee Hicks

Willie Lee Hicks, 87, of Little Rock, died Thursday, June 20, 2003.

He was born in Lonoke. He worked from 1936 to 1950 for the S.P. Stiles family, who owned a cotton plantation in Scott. From 1950 to 1981 he worked for Crow Burlingame Company and the Crow and the Lord families.

Funeral graveside service was Wednesday, June 25, at Roselawn Memorial Park, Little Rock.

Memorials may be made to Arkansas Hospice. Cremation arrangements are by Ruebel Funeral Home.

John H. Stone Jr.

John H. “Jack” Stone Jr., 73, a resident of Pine Bluff died Monday, June 23, 2003.

He went to work for the Cotton Belt Railroad in 1949, retiring in 1989 as a train dispatcher. He was a member and deacon at the First Presbyterian Church in Pine Bluff. He attended Shell Chapel Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He was a member of the Sahara Shrine Temple; the Robert E. Lee Lodge, Free and Accepted Masons, in Altheimer; the Little Rock Valley of Scottish Rite Masonry; a 32nd Degree Mason; and a member of Union Chapter #40, Order of the Eastern Star. He was also a member of the American Train Dispatchers Association.

He is survived by two sons, Major John H. Stone III, USAF (Ret.) of Cabot, and the Rev. Dr. Ronald E. Stone of Hoover, Ala.; one daughter, Amy M. Hoover of Sheridan; and six grandchildren.

Funeral services were June 25, at the First Presbyterian Church in Pine Bluff with Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Directors in charge. Burial was in Brown Cemetery.

The family requests that memorials take the form of contributions to Shriner’s Hospital for Children, 3100 Samford Ave., Shreveport, La. 71103.
