Dr. Fred C. Inman, Jr.

Dr. Fred Clarence Inman, Jr., age 81, died July 15, 2003. Dr. Inman graduated from Arkadelphia High School; attended Henderson State Teachers College and was a graduate of the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville and University of Arkansas School of Medicine.

He served in the Army 153th infantry, Co H. during WWII and retired at the rank of colonel after 46 years of service with the Army National Guard. He was a member of Carlisle First United Methodist Church; American Medical Association, life member of Arkansas Medical Society and member of Arkansas Academy of Family Physicians. Dr. Inman was in family practice for 10 years in McCrory and 35 years in Carlisle.

Survivors include his wife, Sarabelle Atkinson Inman; sons, Dr. Fred C. Inman, III and wife, Paula, of Cabot; Mark H. Inman and wife, Patti, of Bentonville; daughters, Sara M. (Missy) Hunt of Carlisle and Frances Carol Dowell and husband, Cleve, of Manning, S.C.; five grandsons, six granddaughters, two great grandchildren, seven nephews and three nieces. Preceding him in death were his parents, Fred C. and Mayme Hall Inman, and his brother, Dr. Robert L. Inman.
Visitation was from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday, at Boyd Funeral Home in Lonoke. Funeral services were 10 a.m., Friday at Carlisle First United Methodist Church with interment in Carlisle Cemetery, arrangements by Boyd Funeral Home of Lonoke.

Memorials may be made to Arkansas Cancer Research Center or to Carlisle First United Methodist Church.

Charles Walton Bush

Charles Walton Bush, 42, of Ward died Thursday, July 17, 2003. Mr. Bush was a member of Faith Christian Church in Jacksonville. He is preceded in death by his father, Charles Bush. He is survived by his wife, Alicia Diane Bush of the home, mother, Millie Harp, of England, AR, father, Henry D. Harp, England, AR, 1 daughter, Ericka Bush, of Cabot, AR; 1 son, William West of Stuttgart, AR; 1 sister, Rachael Kay Cox, of England, AR.; 2 brothers, Thurman Lee Bush and Glenn Allen Rose, of England, AR, several nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be Thursday July 24, 2003 at 10 a.m. at the Cabot Funeral Home Chapel. Arrangements are by Cabot Funeral Home, 501-843-5816.

Daisy Bell Shipman

Daisy Bell Shipman, 85, formerly of Jacksonville, and of late of Richland, Wash., died July 19, 2003. A housewife, she did work in the cafeteria at weapons plant in Jacksonville, during World War II. In Richland she helped with the Association for Retarded Citizens.

She is survived by sister, Ruth Haney (Ark); brother, Edward Hall (Ark); sons, Jerry, David and Dennis Shipman (Richland, WA); daughter, Martha(Jane) Reed (Medical Lake); 3 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; son, Woodie; great- granddaughter; son, Randy, wife, Bobbi Shipman (West Richland)
Services will be held at Westbrook Funeral Home, Beebe, on Friday, July 25 with burial at Apple Hill Cemetery, Austin.

Alphia G. Westbrook

Alphia Golleher Westbrook, age 81, of Lonoke, Ark., died Friday, July 18, 2003, at Baptist Hospital in Little Rock, Ark.

She was born March 9, 1922, in Beechwood Community, south of Carlisle, Ark., to John Fitzgerald and Jessie Butterworth Golleher. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Carlisle. During her lifetime, Alphia worked at the Ford, Bacon & Davis Ordnance Plant for three years during WWII and after raising her children, she went back to work, retiring from Remington Arms after 16 years. She was active in the PTA, band mothers club, Cub Scout den mother, room mother for many years at the Carlisle Public Schools, and driver to her children’s functions.

She is survived by her husband of 53 years, William R. “Bill” Westbrook Sr.; daughters, Myra Barton and husband, Melvin, of Memphis, Tenn., and Susan Harvey and husband, James, of Hot Springs, Ark.; one son, William R. Westbrook Jr. and wife, Debbie, of Bisbee, Ariz.; six grandchildren, Janie Glover, Steven Barton, Andrea Pope, Matthew Westbrook, John Westbrook, Heather Westbrook; six great-grandchildren, Leslie Glover, Dustin Glover, Lauren Barton, Jacob Barton, Blake Pope, Meredith Pope. She is also survived by three sisters, Lorene Henderson of Carlisle, Ann Shipman of Anaheim, Calif., and Barbara Skipper of Ward; one brother, Ralph Golleher of Vancouver, Wash.; two sisters-in-law, Ruby Golleher of Fort Worth, Texas, and Rosalie Golleher of Des Arc.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Jessie Mae Lantrip; and three brothers, John, David and A. K. Golleher.

Funeral services were Wednesday at Westbrook Funeral Home Chapel in Hazen, Ark., officiated by Dr. Ben Bates of Morrilton with interment at Carlisle Cemetery.

Norma Davis-Ingram

Norma S. Davis-Ingram, age 78, of Van Buren, formerly of North Little Rock, widow of Royal James Ingram, died Friday, July 18, 2003.

She spent two years in Australia’s Women Army Service in the signal unit. She became a U.S. citizen in 1954.

Survivors are three daughters, Jeannette Lovette of Van Buren, Terri Ingram-Hegenbart of Pottsville, and the late Carole Ingram-Shirley and Chester Shirley of Ward; one son, Kenneth Ingram of Arkadelphia; 12 grandchildren; one step-grandson; 17 great-grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, July 24, at Harvest Time Tabernacle, 3100 Briarcliff Drive, Ft. Smith with a graveside service at 3 p.m., Thursday, July 24, at Griffin-Leggett-Rest Hills Memorial Park, 7724 Landers Road, North Little Rock.

George R. Huggs

George R. Huggs, age 87, of Carlisle died Friday, July 18, 2003. He was a retired farm worker.

He is survived by his wife, Elsie Todd Huggs of Carlisle; two sons, Rudy Huggs of North Little Rock and Wendell Huggs of Carlisle; one daughter, Shelia Renner of Carlisle; four grandsons; five brothers, Lloyd Huggs of Carlisle, Fred Huggs of Lonoke, Alfred Huggs of Hickory Plains, Leroy Gales of Des Arc, Ike Gales of Lonoke; and two sisters, Della Waddell and Mattie Shay, both of Oklahoma.
Funeral services were Monday, Bethlehem Baptist Church of DeValls Bluff, with burial in the Oaklawn Cemetery of Devalls Bluff, by Westbrook Funeral Home of Hazen.

Jack E. Leistikow

Jack E. Leistikow, age 74, died July 14, 2003. He was a member of the American Legion for 42 years and retired from the U.S. Air Force.

Survivors include his wife, Mary; sons, Bobby, Don, Jack and Larry; and a sister, Ruth Leistikow.

Funeral services were Thursday, July 17, 2003 at Boyd Funeral Home Chapel, Lonoke, with interment in Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery.

Cordie B. Erwin

Cordie Bernard Erwin, 75, of Fordyce died July 18, 2003.

He was a retired sheet metal worker and a member of Landmark Missionary Baptist Church in Ontario, Calif.

He is survived by one daughter, Rita Rosas of Cherry Valley, Calif.; eight sisters, Erma Taylor of Houston, Texas, Laverne Hart of Fordyce, Zetta Post of Kingsland, Frances Short of North Little Rock, Betty Gorman of Cabot, Jessie Dean Hogancamp of New Edinburg, Nedreva Beck of Sheridan and Sue Noble of Pine Bluff; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services are Monday at the Benton Funeral Home Chapel. Burial at Shady Grove Cemetery near New Edinburg.

Jody Ellen Long

Jody Ellen Long, 52, of Carlisle died Monday, July 14, 2003.

She is survived by seven sons, David Cotham, of Benton; Johnny Paul and Bobby Gene Cash, Teddy Wayne, Richard and Mark Long and Jeremiah Smith; five daughters, Stormy Marie Dawn, Daisy Rose, Rose Marie, and Felicia Marie Long and Stormy Ray Gunter, and five grandchildren.

The body was cremated, with North Little Rock Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

James A. Denas

James A. Denas of Cabot died July 15, 2003.

He was born in Siatista, Greece, June 24, 1909, as James Alexandria Isianussi II.
He trained Lawrence Welk to dance and traveled with him for six months.
His wife, Helen Denas, survives him.

Graveside services were July 17, at the Arkansas State Veteran’s Cemetery on West Maryland Avenue, Sherwood.

Funeral arrangements provided by Griffin-Leggett-Rest Hills Funeral Home, North Little Rock.

Donations may be made to the Greek Orthodox Church on Napa Valley Road in Little Rock.

Elsie Lockridge

Elsie Lockridge, 87, of Camden, died Tuesday, July 15, 2003. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church of Benton.

Survivors include five daughters, Sue Venable of Camden, Dot Frizzell of Cabot, Wanda McCurry of El Dorado, Becky Marks of Camden, and Patti Brents of Malvern; two sons, Jerry Lockridge of Bauxite and Ricky Lockridge of Benton; one brother, Bobby Renfro of Mandeville, La.; 18 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside service was Thursday at Bethesda Cemetery with Proctor Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Shirley Jean Reed

Shirley Jean Reed, 54, of Carlisle, died Wednesday, July 16, 2003.

She is survived by her mother, Ruby Brizendine; three daughters; one son; and three brothers.

Graveside services were July 19, at Carlisle Cemetery. Westbrook Funeral Home in Hazen was in charge.
