Edward Short

Edward Short, Lt. Col. (Ret., US Army, Special Forces), 67, passed away Monday, May 26, at his home in Cabot. He is preceded in death by his parents, Carter and Maxine Short of Fayetteville, AR.

He was a member of the Bible Church of Cabot, the Lamda Chi Alpha Fraternity of U of A, and also a supporter of the Arkansas Prostate Cancer Foundation. He is survived by his wife, Marna J. Short of the home; 2 sons, Preston Carter Short of Coats, NC and Michael Edward Short of Columbia, TN; one daughter, Darna Elaine McGinnis of San Antonio, TX; one sister, Margaret Ann (Short) Coan of Springdale, AR; one brother, Joe Carter Short of Hope, AR; Six grandsons, David, Trevor and Shawn McGinnis, and Andrew, Joshua and Christopher Short; one granddaughter, Scarlett Grace Short; an aunt, Virginia (Short) Rook of Conway, AR; two nieces, Debbie and Melanie Coan; and two nephews, Christopher and Jordan Short.

Funeral Services will be at Faith Missionary Baptist Church on Friday, May 30 at 10 a.m. Interment at 12:00 noon at the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery in North Little Rock. Friends may visit with the family Thursday, May 29, 7-9 p.m, at the Bible Church of Cabot, 1400 S. Pine Street. Memorials may be made to Bible Church of Cabot Mission Fund, or Precept Ministries International, or AR Prostate Cancer Foundation. Arrangements by Cabot Funeral Home, 501-843-5816.

Alice H. Looney

Alice Helen Looney, 84, of Cabot, went to her heavenly home Sunday at Cabot. She is preceded in death by her father and mother, Hugh and Lillian Morris; one brother, Robert Morris; one sister, Mildred Howard; and one great-grandson, Tommy Cook. She is survived by her husband, William R. Looney of Cabot; one daughter, Alice Cook, of Cabot; one son, William Hugh Looney of Morrilton; one sister, Carolyn Bulloch of Little Rock; and one brother, James Morris of Little Rock; five grandchildren; three great- grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at Cabot Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, May 28 at 10 a.m. Friends visited at the funeral home on Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. Arrangements by Cabot Funeral Home, 501-843-5816.

Leroy Harris

Leroy Harris, age 64, of Jacksonville died Saturday, May 24, 2003.

He retired from the USAF as a MSGT and served during the Vietnam Conflict.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Joyce; three children, Rick Harris of Jacksonville, Tammy Wilson of Cabot, Ray Harris of Springdale; two sisters, Geneva Mackey of Lancaster, S.C., and Margaret O’Neal of Salsbury, N.C.; one brother, A.J. Harris of Fort Lawn, S.C.; and six grandchildren.
Funeral services were May 28, in the chapel of Moore’s Jacksonville Funeral Home, with entombment in Chapel Oaks Mausoleum.

Emmadell Willman

Emmadell High Mitchell Willman, 82, loving wife, mother and grandmother, went to be with the Lord May 21, 2003.

She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Lloyd C. Willman of Lonoke. Mrs. Willman also leaves a son, Ed and his wife, Pam Mabry Willman, of Lonoke; and a daughter, Libby and her husband, Herbert Thomas, of Memphis. She was blessed with grandchildren, Edi Willman Lassett and her husband, Josh Lassett, Blair Willman, Herbert Thomas IV, Clayton Thomas, Nathan Thomas; and a great-granddaughter, Grace Ellen Lassett. Also surviving are in-laws, Ethel Baker, Elmer Willman and Gladys and Dr. Gene Holmes all of Lonoke, Jo and Dot Mitchell of Cabot, Christine Horn and Jean and Houston D. Carson of North Little Rock.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Edgar M. and Ella Walls High; her sister, Elizabeth High Broach; granddaughter, Natalie Emma Elizabeth Thomas; and her first husband, Maj. Raymond A. Mitchell.

Mrs. Willman was a member of Lonoke Baptist Church, serving as WMU Director for 10 years, during which time she was instrumental in planning the Lonoke Baptist Church Centennial in 1988; she worked 46 years in children’s Sunday School, attended Bible Study Fellowship, serving as leader. As a Girl Scout she earned the Golden Eaglet award and was a Girl Scout leader, working in Scouting for 20 years. Mrs. Willman served on the Lonoke Cemetery Committee, was past president of the Lonoke Book Club, a graduate of Lonoke High School and Arkansas Teachers College and was elected to Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities. After college she taught several years at the Arkansas School for the Blind.

Funeral services were Sunday, at Lonoke Baptist Church with interment in Lonoke Cemetery. Arrangements by Boyd Funeral Home of Lonoke.
Pallbearers were Elmer Willman Jr., John Holmes, Byron Holmes, Nathan Thomas, Herbert Thomas IV, Clayton Thomas, Robert Walker and Josh Lassett.
Memorials may be made to Lonoke Baptist Church, Lonoke Cemetery Committee or the charity of your choice.

Zetta Stringfellow

Zetta Inez McCutcheon Stringfellow, 92, of Cabot, died May 22, 2003.
Her daughter, Lois Jean Hamilton, and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren survive her.

A graveside memorial service was held Tuesday, May 27, at the Edgewood Memorial Park Cemetery.

Cremation arrangements were by the North Little Rock Funeral Home.

Donald Snyder

Donald “Don” Snyder, 60, of Prim, died Friday, May 23, 2003.
He is survived by his wife, Maggie N. Snyder; two daughters, Kelly Korndoffer of Las Vegas, Nev., and Dawn Livingston of Atlanta, Ga.; three sons, Shawn Snyder of Brownville, Tenn., Shane Snyder of West Monroe, La., and Donnie Snyder of Monroe, La.; two stepdaughters, Maggie Parr of Jacksonville, and Elizabeth Vent of Hazen; four stepsons, Jimmy Williams, James Williams and David Williams, all of Jacksonville, and Billy Williams of Calico Rock; two brothers, Teddy Snyder of Stockton, Calif., and Tony Snyder of Van Austyne, Texas; 18 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren.

Funeral was Tuesday, at Westbrook Chapel, with burial in Lonoke Cemetery.

Allie Leona Tustison

Allie Leona Tustison, age 91, of Cabot, died Tuesday, May 20 th, 2003.
She was a retired employee of the Arkansas State Hospital and and a member of Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Cabot.

She is survived by three daughters, Frances Hill, Mamie Brooks, Mavis O’Brien; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother, George W. Collier; and a sister, Betty Jean Kerr.

Funeral service was May 23, at Bethel Missionary Baptist Church with burial in Mountain Springs Cemetery. Westbrook Funeral Home, Beebe, was in charge.
Memorials may be made to Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, 602 E. Main St., Cabot, Ark. 72023.

Walter St. Clair

Elder Walter St. Clair, age 93, died May 17, 2003.

He was pastor of the Church of Jesus Christ, Lonoke.

He is survived by one sister, Gertrude Woods of Lonoke.

His Memorial service was held May 24, at the Church of Jesus Christ, North Little Rock, with interment in Johnson Cemetery, military Road, Jacksonville. Arrangements by Boyd Funeral Home, Lonoke.

Gerald Odell Cole

Gerald Odell Cole, 65, died Monday.

He is survived by a son, Jamie Cole; a daughter, Shelly Cole of North Little Rock; a sister, Patsy Best of Coy; and two grandchildren.

Funeral services were Friday, at Wilson Funeral Home, England. Burial, Mulberry Cemetery.

Elsie LeMay Brown

Elsie LeMay Brown, 75, of North Little Rock died May 20, 2003.
Survivors are her husband, Bert Brown; daughters, Martha Holsted and Margaret Adcock, both of North Little Rock; a sister, Bethel McKnight of California; three grandchilden; and one great-grandchild.

Funeral was May 23 at Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church, with interment in Oak Grove Cemetery. Roller-Owens Funeral Home was in charge.

Adelaide Jones

Emma Adelaide Jones, age 88, of Texarkana, Texas, died Tuesday, May 20, 2003, at her residence.

Mrs. Jones was born May 22, 1914, at Cabot. She was a graduate of the University of Arkansas and was a retired school teacher at College Hill Elementary School. She was an active member at Hardy Memorial United Methodist Church, Wesleyan Sunday School Class, the United Methodist Women, the Texarkana Church Women United, the Arkansas Retired Teachers Association, Miller County Retired Teachers Association, Delta Kappa Gamma, and retired Senior Volunteer Program.

She was preceded in death by her son, Charles Jones, son-in-law, Jim Johnson, her parents, Frank and Emma Stephens, and her brothers and sisters, Jud Stephens, George Stephens, Leola Jones, Maurice Stephens, Woodrow Stephens, Floyd Stephens and Edith Russell.

Survivors include her husband, Jewell O. Jones of Texarkana, Texas; two daughters, Anita Henderson of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Marylyn Johnson Hall, and her husband, Bill Hall, of Richardson, Texas; two sisters, Joan Cavender of Ruston, La. and Eunice Womack of Cabot; eight grandchildren, David Jones of Rogers, Carol Jones of Fayetteville, Craig Jones of Little Rock, Jeff Henderson and Alex Henderson of Colorado Springs, Colo., Stephanie Shown of Texarkana, Texas, Michele Pittman of Colcord, Okla., and Wesley Johnson of Fayetteville; 15 great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives.

A memorial service was held Saturday at 11 a.m., May 24, at Hardy Memorial United Methodist Church, with Rev. Raymond Cammack officiating. Arrangements were by Texarkana Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Hardy Memorial United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women, 1401 W. 7th St., Texarkana, Texas 75501, or to Hospice of Texarkana, 803 Spruce St., Texarkana, Texas 75501, or to the American Cancer Society, 5501 Plaza Dr., Texarkana, Texas 75503.

A.L.Houchens

A.L. (Leo) Houchens, 82, of Carlisle, died Tuesday, May 27, 2003. He attended school in Stuttgart, where he was reared by his Aunt Matt. A veteran of WWII, he was a charter member of Lions Club, a member of Carlisle Masonic Lodge #587, and Carlisle Methodist Church, where he served as president of Men’s Bible Class.

Survivors include his wife, Janice Pitts Houchens; one son, Michael; two grandsons; two granddaughters; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services are at 2 p.m., Thursday at Carlisle United Methodist Church with interment in Carlisle Cemetery by Boyd Funeral Home, Lonoke. Visitation is Wednesday, 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Carlisle United Methodist Church or Carlisle Cemetery.
