David Hayes
David Hayes, 64, of Mulberry, died Monday, Oct. 20, 2003. He was a truck driver for Penske Trucking, and an Army veteran.
Survivors include his parents, Carl and Ruth Hayes; his wife, Tessa Hayes of Mulberry; daughters, Lisa Woodall, Austin and Lana Poe, Pangburn; son, Tim Hayes, Cabot; three step-children, Stephanie Hudson, Paris, Ricky and Shannon Dool, Mulberry; sister, Kay Taylor, Wilburn; brothers, Charles Hayes, Cabot, Steve Hayes, Sherrill Hayes, and Ricky Hayes, all of Wilburn; seven grandchildren.
Graveside service was Wednesday, Oct. 22, at Hight Cemetery
with burial at Hight Cemetery, Mulberry, by Shaffer Funeral Home of Ozark.
Steven C. Gamblin
Steven Barton Calhoun-Gamblin, age 19, of Shannon Hills died Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2003.
He worked in Colorado doing demolition.
Survived by his mom and dad, Donald and Gladys Calhoun of Shannon Hills; father and stepmother, Fred and Rose Gamblin; sisters, Wilma Wintz, Kim Turner and Toni Gamblin; brothers, Scott and Chris Gamblin.
Services were Oct. 19, at Campground Union Church in Cabot with burial at Evans Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Steven Calhoun-Gamblin memorial fund. Arrangements by Thomas Funeral Service, Cabot.
Amy Walker
Amy Walker, 26, Staff Sergeant at LRAFB died Saturday, Oct. 4, 2003.
She is survived by her mother, Terry Fitzgerald of Riverside, CA and her father, Robert Garnet of Moreno Valley, CA.
A military Service was held in Riverside, Calif., Tuesday. Arrangements by Cabot Funeral Home, 501-843-5816.
Hubert Glen LaRue
Graveside services for Hubert Glen “Dub” LaRue of Lakeview were held Monday, Sept. 22, at Fairview Cemetery, Marion County, Flippin, Ark., with Rev. Bob Moon officiating. Arrangements were by Kirby-Boaz Funeral Home.
Serving as pallbearers were Matt Yeager, Jason LaRue, Bryan LaRue, Will Boyer, Bill Burleson and Mark Wedgeworth.
Mr. LaRue died Sept. 18, 2003, at his residence.
He was born Sept. 18, 1930 at Quitman, Texas, the son of James Samuel and Etta Mae Bagby LaRue. He married Betty Jean Newbill at Vega, Texas on June 20, 1952. He was an insurance agent with Tank Rea Ins. Co. He had lived in Mountain Home since moving from Amarillo, Texas in 1963. He enjoyed fishing, swimming and the Arkansas Razorbacks, and was a member of Midway Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Jean of Mountain Home; two sons, Michael Glen (Susie) LaRue of El Dorado, Ark.; Joseph Mark (Mary LaDell) LaRue of Lakeview; one daughter, Melissa Nan (Milton P.) Yeager of Cabot, Ark.; one brother, Herman LaRue of Waco, Texas; three sisters, Imogene Henry of Denton, Texas, Margie Crow of Orange, Texas and Kathryn Vinsonhaler of Little Rock, Ark.; grandchildren, Mekelle (Jason) Daniel, Matt Yeager, Jason, Bryan, Conner and Davis LaRue, and Will and John Boyer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and two sisters.

David Lee Sheridan
David Lee Sheridan, 69, of Benton died Sunday, Sept. 21, 2003.
He was a retired carpenter.
He is survived by his son, Sam Sheridan of Cabot; daughter, Kay Ingram of Maumelle; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were Wednesday at Ashby Funeral Home with burial at Mt. Olive Cemetery.
Mary Halijan Bednar
Mary Halijan Bednar, age 87, of Hazen died Monday, Sept. 22, 2003.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Hazen and a past member of the Pearl McCain Federated Club.
She is survived by her husband, John Bednar; one son, Frank Halijan Jr. of Carlisle; one daughter, Frances Caviness of Hazen; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one step-son, John Bednar; one step-daughter, Kathy Felice; four stepgrandchildren.
Funeral services were Sept. 24, at the First United Methodist Church in Hazen. Interment was in the Hazen Cemetery.
Mary Glynn Sloan
Mary Glynn “Mimi” Sloan, died Saturday,Sept. 20, 2003.
Survivors are a son, Eddie Castleberry, of Sheridan; daughter, Dianne Ward, of Jacksonville; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Services were held at Wilson Chapel, England. Interment, Union Valley, Coy.
Ruth E. Cain
Ruth E. Cain, 80, of Fremont, Neb., formerly of Soux Falls, S.D. died.
She was a retired seamstress and an employee of the V.A. Hospital in Sioux Falls, retiring in 1989.
Survivors are her children, Jack Cain of Bismarck, N.D., Jeff Cain of Lennox, S.D., Jerry Cain of Sioux Falls, S.D., Candy Martin of Fremont, Neb., Jim Cain of Ward and Jan Cain of Harrisburg, S.D.; nine grandchildren; brothers, John McCormick of Hartford, S.D., Jim McCormick of Culpepper, Va.; sisters, Holly Moser of Loveland, Colo., and Judy McCormick of Colorado Springs, Colo.
Funeral was Friday at First United Methodist Church, Sioux Falls, S.C., with interment in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Rebecca Breashears
Rebecca Sue Breashears, 75, of Dardanelle died Sept. 14, 2003.
Survivors are her husband of 55 years, Bill Breashears; a daughter, Norma Ellis of Dardanelle; sons, John “Sonny” Breashears of Dardanelle, Banks Breashears of Lonoke, Billy Breashears of Long Beach, Calif., Bobby Breashears of Russelville; a brother, Arthur Lee Banks of Tyler, Texas; eight grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Funeral was Sept. 17 at Cornwell Chapel, Dardanelle, with burial in Brearley Cemetery.

Daniel R.L. Jones
Daniel R.L. Jones of North Little Rock died Sept. 15, 2003, at the age of 76.
He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and was retired from Harvest Foods. He was a member of the First Pentecostal Church in North Little Rock.
Survivors include his two daughters, Carol Payne of Lonoke and Pam Jones of Scott; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A celebration of his life was held Friday, Sept. 19, at Griffin-Leggett-Rest Hills Chapel, with burial at Rest Hills Memorial Park.
Memorials may be made in his honor to the First Pentecostal Church of Jesus Christ.
Norman Oakley
Norman Homer Oakley, age 71, of Little Rock, died Sept. 16, 2003.
He was a carpenter for 50 years and a member of the Church of Christ.
He is survived by four children, Marshall and Donald Oakley, Sherry Kelly and Marilyn Seigrist all of Jacksonville; the mother of his children, Mary Oakley, Jacksonville; one brother, Gerald Oakley, Austin; four sisters, Wilma Venable, El Paso, Claudia Flow, Shreveport, La., Betty Dyson, Vilonia and Elzia Sturch, Marion; one granddaughter; three great-grandchildren.
Funeral was Friday, Sept. 19, at Oak Church of Christ, El Paso, with burial in Blasingame Cemetery.
Ruby Harrison Scruggs
Ruby Harrison Scruggs, age 93, of Beebe, died Sept. 17, 2003.
Surviving are her daughter, Alice Spence of Austin; her sons, James N. Scruggs of St. Joseph, Mich., and Edwin F. Scruggs of Fort Worth, Texas; her sister, Faye Miller of Lufkin, Texas; her brother, Weldon Harrison of Sebring, Fla.; 10 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral was Friday, Sept. 19, at Victory Baptist Church, Cabot, with burial in Antioch Cemetery.
