EVENING SHADE — Laura Nelson, 84, of Evening Shade died Monday.
Survivors include her children, Robert Nelson of Olive Branch, Miss., Patricia Nozinich of Coldwater, Miss., and Pamela Shirley of Munford, Tenn.; siblings, Dee Lashley of Evening Shade, Phil Lashley of Poughkeepsie, Georgia Cates of Lake of the Ozarks, Alma Roberts of Petal, Miss., Joi Dunn of Memphis, Brenda Michaels of Corinth, Miss., and Julia Joiner of Dalton, Ga.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Private memorial services will be directed by Qualls Cave City Funeral Home. No visitation is planned.
Dorothy Pilkinton
NEWPORT — Dorothy Pilkinton, 71, of Newport departed this life Monday, Jan. 3.
She was preceded in death by a son, Jim Pilkinton; daughter, Amanda Freeman; and her parents.
She is survived by a son, Steven Freeman of Newport; daughter, Teresa Tidwell of Newport; brother, Bobby Carlisle of Summers; sister, Sharon Hudgens of Texas; four grandchildren, James Armstrong, Patrick Armstrong, Jacob Pilkinton and Jonathan Pilkinton; and a great-grandchild, Marcus Armstrong.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Walnut Grove Cemetery.
Visitation will be tonight from 6-8 at Dillinger Funeral Home.
Robert Lewis Presley
CARAWAY — Robert Lewis Presley, 87, passed away Monday, Jan. 3, 2011, at his residence.
He was born April 28, 1923, at Harrisburg to the late Robert Eddie and Hassie Presley. Mr. Presley was a bricklayer for more than 42 years and of the Baptist belief. He enjoyed gardening, tinkering and his family.
Survivors include five sons and their wives, Ray and Theresa Presley of Black Oak, Mike and Gabi Presley of Huntsville, Ala., Ronnie and Angie Presley of Memphis, Jeff and Paula Presley of Jonesboro and Kenneth House of Kansas City, Mo.; three daughters, Doris Love of Kingsland, Ga., Joyce Irvin and Cheryl Schoolfield, both of Caraway; two brothers, Troy Presley of Wichita, Kan., and Vertis Presley of Wister, Okla.; two sisters, Mary Jackman of Peevly, Mo., and Maxine Barnfield of Arvin, Calif.; 30 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by his wife, Flossie Rosetta Presley; a sister, Francis Prince; and four brothers, Floyd Presley, Hollis Presley, Don Presley and Lois Elbert Presley.
A celebration of his life will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Caraway First Baptist Church with the Rev. Rick Stevens officiating. Burial will follow in Caraway Cemetery.
Visitation will be this evening from 6-8 at Gregg Funeral Home in Caraway.
Honored to serve as active pallbearers are Robert Looney, Chris Schoolfield, Jeremy Presley, Brandon Loftice, Eric Presley and Robert Presley; and as honorary pallbearers, Lynn Haag, Wayne Fletcher, Steve Cook, Terry Couch, Gerald Mason, Ray Birdno, Kenny Isom and Mr. Presley’s grandchildren.
Velma Lorene Rush
WALNUT RIDGE — Velma Lorene Whited Rush of Walnut Ridge died Monday, Jan. 3, 2011, at Lawrence Hall Nursing Home in Walnut Ridge. She was 104 years old.
She was born Aug. 10, 1906, at Ash Flat to the late Jerry and Francis Gullett Whited.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Oren Rush; two sisters and four brothers.
She was a member of Main Street Church of Christ and worked for more than 26 years at the Family Shoe Store in Walnut Ridge.
She is survived by a daughter, Willene Childers of Walnut Ridge; one grandchild; two great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
The family will accept friends today from 1-2 p.m. at Higginbotham Funeral Service in Walnut Ridge.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today in Higginbotham Funeral chapel. Burial will follow in Lawrence Memorial Park Cemetery.
David Smoker
PARAGOULD — David Edward Smoker, 79, of Paragould died Tuesday, Jan. 4, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.
He was born June 17, 1931, at Burr Oak, Mich., the son of the late Edward and Alma Sikorski Smoker. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Deloris Veasey Smoker, and his brother, Floyd Smoker.
He was retired after 451/2 years from Darling Store Fixtures and was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He loved hunting, fishing and golfing.
Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Kathy Smoker, Steve and Lana Smoker, and Barry and Darlene Smoker; daughter and son-in-law, Lori and Kevin Thompson, all of Paragould; grandchildren, Sara Smoker, Mallory Williams, Marshall, Mackenzie and Maggie Thompson.
A public rosary will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday in Heath Colonial Chapel with visitation following until 8 p.m.
His life will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Jack Vu and deacon Rex Bouldin officiating. Burial will follow in Greene County Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Mark Woodruff, David Flanery, Stanley Carmack, Dwayne Frakes, Don Tabor, Dick Chiles, Jerry Hoepfl and Harlon Barron.

Barbara Jane West
BELLA VISTA — Barbara Jane West, 35, formerly of Jonesboro, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2010, at her home in Bella Vista.
Barbara was preceded in death by her father, Lee Seats, and grandmother, Essie Carter.
She is survived by her husband, Joe West of Bella Vista; mother, Wilda Seats of Jonesboro; two sisters, Donna Wright of Madison and Donna Ashcraft of Florida; and a host of nieces, nephews and other family.
No funeral is planned. A memorial service will be announced in the spring.
Hazel Whitmire
HOXIE — Hazel Whitmire, 78, of Hoxie passed away Tuesday, Jan. 4.
Survivors include a son, Ralph Whitmire of Granite City, Ill.; daughters, Karen Riggs and Amy Whitmire, both of Hoxie; brother, Curtis Lamb of Walnut Ridge; sisters, Grace Heard, Esther Floyd and Iva Atkinson, all of Walnut Ridge, Opal Christian of Rock Falls, Ill., Lee Whitmire of Lake City and Evelyn Rutledge of Bay; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Lawrence Memorial Park.
Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Bryan Funeral Home.
Tammy Wilson
HARRISBURG — Tammy Wilson, 50, of Harrisburg departed this life Monday, Jan. 3, at her residence.
She was born Dec. 23, 1960, at Marked Tree to Barlow Eldridge and Cusene Ford.
She is survived by a son, Tommy (Heather) Wilson of Memphis; daughter, Debra (Charlie) Skipper of Harrisburg; brothers, Jimmy Ford of Lansing, S.C., and Johnny Ford of Jonesboro; sisters, Charlene Schmidt of Aurora, Colo., Mary Evans of Dallas, Ga., Frances Willis of Perryville, Mo., Teresa Willis of Payneway, Pamela Willis of Trumann and Renee Rice of Manila; and four grandchildren.
Services will be private and arranged by Jackson’s Harrisburg Funeral Home.
Norma Carter
SWIFTON — Norma Carter, 75, of Swifton departed this life Saturday, Jan. 8, 2011.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Taff and Thelma Jimerson Brumley.
She is survived by sons, James Carter of Swifton, David Carter of Florida and Stephen Carter of Newport; daughters, Angela Fry of Swifton, Theresa Ortiz of Florida and Denise McGrady of Pennsylvania; and several grandchildren.
Service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the First Assembly of God in Swifton with burial in Arnold Cemetery. Visitation is from 9 a.m. Tuesday until service time.

PLEASANT VIEW, Tenn. — Mr. Joey Reid Craig, 61, of Pleasant View died Saturday, Jan. 8, 2011, at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville, Tenn.

Mary Alice Cude
LEACHVILLE — Mrs. Mary Alice Cude, 77, of Leachville, the widow of Mr. Bill Cude, passed away Sunday, Jan. 9, 2011, at St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro.
Born at Leachville, she was the daughter of the late L.M. and Blanche Bishop McClearn and was a lifelong Leachville resident. She loved her life as a farmer’s wife and was of the Baptist faith.
Mrs. Cude is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Brenda Holt of Leachville and Mrs. Billie Rowland of Paragould; four nephews, Cort Rowland, Mike Holt, Stephen Holt and David Holt; and three nieces, Vicki Fulbright, Pam Carter and Tamara Baughn.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Howard Funeral Service Chapel in Leachville with the Rev. Royce Schanda officiating. Burial will follow in Leachville Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 9 a.m. Tuesday until time of service.
