Marie Bone

JONESBORO — Marie Bone, 74, of Jonesboro died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2009, at St. Bernards Medical Center.

She had lived in Jonesboro for three years, moving from Munster, Ind. She was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy at Hammond, Ind.

She was preceded in death by her father, Ray Hightower; two brothers, Charles Ray Hightower and Raymond Hightower; and grandchildren, Dustin and Tyler Thomas.

Marie is survived by her husband of 54 years, Elvin Bone of the home; one daughter, Marilyn Thomas and husband Mark of Springville, Ind.; mother, Bertha Mae Hightower of Jonesboro; and grandson, Casey Thomas.

The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at The Rock of Northeast Arkansas with Pastor Terry Watson officiating and Emerson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Burial will follow at 2 p.m. in Shady Grove Cemetery near Bald Knob.

Pallbearers will be Casey Thomas, Mickey Byrd, Ron Williams and Joe Masner.

Visitation will be from 9-10 prior to the service at The Rock of Northeast Arkansas.

E.C. Brasher

OSCEOLA — E.C. Brasher, 87, of Osceola died Tuesday, Jan. 6.

He was born to the late Ellison Cleveland and Myrtle Brasher, May 2, 1921.

He is survived by his son, Travis Brasher; daughter, Carolyn Little; sisters, Nina Sue Welch, Magdaline Vermillion and Katie Scrivner; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lela Brasher; son, Gail Murray Brasher; one brother; and one sister.

Visitation will be tonight from 6-8 in Roller-Swift Funeral Home.

Graveside services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. in Rivercrest Gardens at Marie.

Clifton Burnett Sr.

TRUMANN — Funeral service for Clifton Burnett Sr., 85, of Trumann, who died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2009, at NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital, will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Church of God in Christ International, 125 Fisher St.

Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery at Cherry Valley.

Visitation will be tonight from 6-8 in Johnson Funeral Home Chapel at Wynne.

Survivors include his wife, May Gladys Burnett of Trumann; five sons, Alfonza Burnett, Jimmy Burnett, Danny Burnett and David Burnett, all of Jonesboro, and Clifton Burnett Jr. of Trumann; four daughters, Deloris Rogers of Memphis, Shirley Burnett of Lakeland, Fla., Helen Linda Walter of Lakewell, Fla., and Patricia Thomas of Lakeland; a sister, Shirley Burnett of Jonesboro; 39 grandchildren; and 41 great-grandchildren.

Byrl Losey Craig

HEBER SPRINGS — Byrl Losey Craig, 100, of Heber Springs passed away Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2009.

Byrl was born at Almon, Mo., on Aug. 8, 1908, to the late Dr. George C. Losey and Cora Ellen Morgan Losey. Byrl was the granddaughter of Achilles and Samantha Morgan, and Dr. James and Virginia Losey.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Tom Craig; and sisters, Mina Chaney and Ina Southerland.

Survivors are daughters, Winifred Penn (Lavern) of Heber Springs and Annetta C. Wilson (Paul) of New Mexico; granddaughter, Suzanne Penn of North Little Rock; grandsons, Lane Wilson of Tulsa, Okla., and Lyle Wilson of Mesquite, Texas; and sister, Brooky Glover of Eugene, Ore.

Byrl attended Arkansas State Teachers College in Conway and Arkansas State College in Jonesboro. She taught in the public school system for more than 30 years. After retirement she worked at Goodwill Industries and for one year as a house mother at the Methodist Children’s Home in North Little Rock.

Byrl served 25 years as a volunteer at the Conway Regional Medical Center. She loved flowers and crocheting.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Heber Springs Funeral Home, 1199 Wilburn Road, Heber Springs, (501) 887-9152. Officiating will be Charles Cayton and Paul Wilson.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Saturday.

Pallbearers will be Paul Craig, Denver Hoggard, Hughie Craig, Art Craig, Paul Ford, Tom Suttle, Mike and David Langford.

Interment will be at 4:30 p.m. in Crestlawn Cemetery at Conway.

Kent Thomas Crigler

FAYETTEVILLE — Kent Thomas Crigler, 49, died Monday, Jan. 5, at Washington Regional Medical Center.

Survivors include his wife, Kathy Groves Crigler; sons, Mark, Brian, Tanner and Logan; a grandson, James Curtis; sister, Marsha Beard; and father, Bobby Crigler, all of Fayetteville; his mother, Cornelia Barnett of Kennett; and brother, Rick Crigler of Brookland.

Services will be conducted by G.W. Endicott in Pine Log Methodist Church at 10 a.m. Saturday with burial in Pine Log Cemetery under the direction of Gregg Funeral Home of Jonesboro.

Shirley ‘PeeWee’ Cullen

JONESBORO — Shirley “PeeWee” Cullen, 37, died Wednesday, Jan. 7, at St. Bernards Medical Center.

Survivors include two daughters, Megan Meredith of Harrisburg and Crystal Cullen of Jonesboro; three sons, Joshua Meredith of Brookland, Glen Cullen Jr. and Jonathan Cullen; her father, James C. Woods; two brothers, Ronnie Howard and James Woods; and a sister, Patsy McQuay, all of Jonesboro.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Linda Woods.

Visitation will be held tonight from 6-8 in Gregg Funeral Home of Monette.

Service will be private.

Bettye Jo Flentje

CHERRY VALLEY — Bettye Jo Flentje, 81, of Cherry Valley departed this life Monday, Jan. 5, 2009.

She was born May 31, 1927, at Cherry Valley, the daughter of Homer and Virgie McElroy Hogan.

Survivors include her daughters, Ouida Cowan and Charlotte Flentje; sisters, Brenda Holt and Annette Newton; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be today at 2 p.m. in Thompson-Wilson Wynne Funeral Home, (870) 238-9400. Interment will follow in Crosslawn Cemetery.

Velma Christine Edwards Goodwin

JONESBORO — Velma Christine Edwards Goodwin, “MeMaw,” 94, died Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2009, at St. Bernards Medical Center.

She was born Feb. 3, 1914, at Walcott to the late Stephen and Julia Edwards. She was a member of Central Baptist Church, where she worked as a nursery worker for 20 years.

Mrs. Goodwin retired from Frolic Footwear after 25 years. MeMaw was a loving grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother, a devoted wife and loving mother.

Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Janet and Larry McQuay of Jonesboro; a sister, Maxine Garner of Arlington, Tenn.; seven grandchildren, Ronald Goodwin, Cliff Goodwin, Christine McQuay, Kim McQuay, Michele Creamer, Leslie Adams and Steve McQuay and wife Cassie; 13 great-grandchildren, Ashley Goodwin, Tracy Hill and husband Brad, Marc Snell, Kortnie Creamer, Felicia Zuber and husband Joe, Catie Creamer, Andie Creamer, Brian Schreck, Christi Schreck, Tyler Adams, Gage Adams, Alex McQuay and Jessica McQuay; great-great-grandchildren, Madalyn Zuber and Isabella Hill; and several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Clifton Goodwin; her son, Ronald Dale “Sonny” Goodwin; a brother, Bruce Edwards; two sisters, Grace Clark and Emma Edwards; two half brothers, Will Edwards and Ray Edwards.

A celebration of her life will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Gregg Funeral Home Chapel, with the Revs. Mike Martin and Gary Gipson officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Log Cemetery.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are Gary Wayne Edwards, Eddie Garner, David Garner, Eric Brown, Tommy Raines and Daniel Raines; and as honorary pallbearers, Larry McQuay, Ron Goodwin, Cliff Goodwin, Stephen McQuay, Marc Snell, Tyler Adams, Alex McQuay, Gage Adams, Michael Weston, Joe Zuber, Len Snell, Curtis Creamer, Steve Schreck and Allen Adams.

Visitation will be today from 5-7 p.m. in Gregg Funeral Home of Jonesboro.

The family requests lasting memorials be given to the Central Baptist Church Senior Citizens Ministry.

May her Christian walk be an example to the many lives she has touched.

Henry Haggard

WABASH, Ind. — Henry Haggard, 73, of Wabash died at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2009, at his home.

He was born Aug. 23, 1935, in Cleburne County to Clarence and Learly Mae Horton Haggard.

Henry first married Clara Fix on July 25, 1960. He then married Sandra McCune in Wabash on Dec. 14, 1991. He retired from Container Corp. in Wabash in August 1998.

He was a member of the Wabash Eagles Lodge and a former member of the Moose Lodge. Henry enjoyed fishing, hunting and mushroom hunting, and he especially loved his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Sandra Haggard of Wabash; his and Clara’s children, Wayne Haggard of Rockford, Ill., Julie Eakright of Wabash, Scarlet (Roger) Montague of Akron, Ind., and Jacki (Tom) MacLain of Rochester, Ind.; Sandra’s daughter, Teresa (Kenneth) Stanley of Roann, Ind.; sister, Mary Bogard of Harrisburg; half brother, John (Karen) Haggard; two half sisters, Frankie (Donnie) Thomas and Margaret (Ricky) Lawson; stepsister, Margie Akers, all of Heber Springs; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers; four sisters; his stepson, Charles E. Neal Jr.; and his grandson, Jeramy Stanley.

Funeral services will be held at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Ave., Wabash, Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. with Guy Provance officiating. Burial will be in Falls Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Monday in the funeral home.

Preferred memorial is the Wabash-Miami Home Healthcare and Hospice.
