SOMERSET, Ky. — Joni Lynn Howell, 29, of Somerset died Friday, Aug. 22, at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.
She was a student and of the Lutheran faith.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Walter Lange; and paternal grandparents, Ed and Laverne Roleson.
Survivors include her daughter, Carol Ann Howell of Dyersburg, Tenn.; parents, John Ed and Carol Roleson of Paragould; brother and sister-in-law, John and Stacey Roleson Jr. of Paragould; maternal grandmother, Ruth Lange of Lafe; nieces, Halle Roleson and Olivia Bolen; and nephew, Jayke Bolen.
Visitation will be today from 2:30-3:30 p.m. in St. John’s Lutheran Church.
Funeral services will be at 3:30 p.m. in St. John’s Lutheran Church with the Rev. Curt Dwyer officiating. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Shelton, Josh Lange, Alex Ryan, Nathan Little, Andrew Floyd and Shawn Roleson.
The family request that memorials be sent to St. John’s Lutheran Church Building Fund.
Dempsey E. Sims
May 5, 1929-Aug. 22, 2008
JACKSONPORT — Dempsey E. Sims, 79, of Jacksonport died Friday.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosetta Sims; and his parents, Baxter and Grace Matthews Sims.
Mr. Sims is survived by one brother, Dale Sims of Newport; one sister, Dovie Price of Beebe; and nieces and nephews, Robbie and Debbie Sims, Cody Sims, Bonnie Holcombe, Rick Sims, Robert Stansberry, Autumn Sims and Sissy Clark.
Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday in Reeves Pine Grove Cemetery.
Visitation is tonight from 5-7 in Jackson’s Newport Funeral Home.
Walter Triplett
Jan. 18, 1945-Aug. 23, 2008
MURRAY, Ky. — Walter “Red” James Triplett, 63, of Murray died Saturday at NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital at Jonesboro.
He was a meat cutter at Kroger and of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his daughter, Melissa Branch of Farmington; son, Chris Triplett of Memphis; mother, Edith Triplett of Luxora; sisters, Rena Brown of Osceola and Betty Hartsfield of Luxora; brother, Ervin Triplett of Luxora; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, J.H. Triplett.
Visitation is tonight from 6-8 in Wilson Funeral Home at Osceola.
Funeral services will be in Murray with burial in Brewer Cemetery
at Murray.
Mabel Brashers
JONESBORO — Mabel Virginia “Ginny” Brashers, 62, of Jonesboro died Monday, Aug. 25, 2008, at her daughter’s residence.
She was born in Poplar Bluff, Mo., and lived in Jonesboro for nine years, moving here from Corning. She was a factory worker for Darling Co. and member of Northside Christian Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Victor Brashers; one son, Brad Brashers; her parents, Ludoph and Mabel Fleming Sayles; and one sister, Nancy Sayles.
She is survived by her sons, Charles Wells and wife Becky of Corning, Nathan Brashers and wife Vicki of Baconton, Ga., Vic Brashers Jr. and wife Elaine of Alvin, Texas, and Pat Brashers and wife Tracy of Corning; two daughters, Carol Brickley and husband David, and Heather Winberry and husband Chris, all of Jonesboro; 25 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Emerson Memorial Chapel with Eldon Richardson officiating. Burial will be in Shiloh Cemetery
with Emerson Funeral Home of Jonesboro in charge.
Active pallbearers will include Charles Jones, Marcus Jones and Marcus Johnson.
Visitation will be from 5-7 this evening in Emerson Funeral Home at Jonesboro.
Henry Truman Croft
PLATO, Mo. — Henry Truman Croft, 80, of Plato died Friday, Aug. 22, 2008.
He was a well-known ferrier.
Survivors include his wife, Vearl, of Plato; children, Linda Miller of Carbondale, Ill., Renee Minkus of Lebanon, Mo., Mayo Fix of Kansasville, Wis., Sue Rasgaitis and Benjamin Croft, both of Plato; sisters, Bernell Cole, Janta Downing and Billie Steele, all of Sidney, and Kay Goodman of Batesville; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ward and Alma Croft; brother; infant sister; infant son; and granddaughter.
Services were Monday in Qualls Funeral Home at Cave City with burial in Yeager Cemetery.
Barbara Ann Hope
JONESBORO — Barbara Ann Hope, 71, of Jonesboro passed away Sunday, Aug. 24, 2008, at her home.
She was born at Sioux Falls, S.D., on March 26, 1937, to Kenneth and Lu Willcut. Mrs. Hope was a homemaker, of the Presbyterian belief and loved reading, traveling, bowling, shopping and most of all, her family.
She leaves behind her husband, William E. Hope of the home; a son, Randy W. Hope of Jonesboro; a daughter, Larye Flynn of Jonesboro; a brother, Don Willcut of Long Beach, Calif.; and four grandchildren, Josh Morgan and Tiffany Morgan of Provo, Utah, Heather Cox of Trumann and Kenny Hope of Bay.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be held Thursday in Roller-Farmers Union Chapel, beginning at 1 p.m., with Pastor Faith Morgan officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Log Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. in the funeral home.
Pallbearers will include Danny Flynn Jr., Josh Morgan, Dave Cunningham, Mike Davies, Kenny Hope and Billy Cox.

Odessa Johnson
WALNUT RIDGE — Odessa Johnson, 85, of Walnut Ridge passed away Sunday, Aug. 24, 2008, at the Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
Born Dec. 17, 1922, at Walnut Ridge, she was the daughter of Everette and Birdie Wooldridge Jones. She was a saleslady for Grahams Department Store and member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church at Annieville.
She was united in marriage to Delbert Johnson on July 4, 1942; he preceded her in death on Dec. 6, 1997. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Leland Jones; and sister, Lucille Poe.
Survivors include a daughter, Lana Burns of Walnut Ridge; a son, Miles (Diane) Johnson of Franklin, Tenn.; three grandchildren, Eric (Heather) Burns, Blake (Missy) Burns and Jake Johnson; and three great-grandchildren, Rylee, Garrett and Bailey Burns.
Service will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church at Annieville with Jerry Clements and Dennis Truxler officiating. Interment will be in Lawrence Memorial Park under the direction of Bryan Funeral Home of Hoxie.
Visitation will be tonight from 6-8.

CARAWAY — Vera Mae Luff, 84, of Caraway passed away at St. Bernards Medical Center at Jonesboro on Saturday, Aug. 23, 2008.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. today in Caraway Cemetery
with the Rev. Rick Stevens officiating. Langford-Bookout Funeral Home of Jonesboro is assisting the family with these arrangements.
Zebedee Martin
TRUMANN — Zebedee Daniel Martin, 81, of Trumann died Sunday, Aug. 24, 2008, at Skillcare Nursing Center.
He was born at Landas and lived in Trumann for 50 years. He was a machinist for Singer/Parker Manufacturing plant at Trumann. He was a Army veteran of Korea and member of the United Pentecostal Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Katherine Martin; his parents, Herbert and Bertha Branscum Martin; and one brother, Blace Martin.
He is survived by one son, Danny Martin of the home; one sister, Marchetta Griffith of Jonesboro; and two grandchildren, Zane and Shana Martin.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Emerson Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Murry Ray officiating. Burial will be in Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery
with Emerson Funeral Home of Jonesboro in charge.
