Kelly Elizabeth Sterling
SLIDELL, La. — Kelly Elizabeth Morris Sterling passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2008.
She was the beloved wife of Christopher Dale Sterling; stepmother to Alexis Nicole Sterling; daughter of Ginger Crawford Lloyd and Jerry Morris; stepdaughter to Pat Morris; daughter-in-law to Al and Sandra Sterling; and sister to Jason Garey.
Age 30 years, a native of Joiner and resident of Slidell, La., for the past 10 years, Kelly was a production accountant with Llog Exploration of Covington, La. She held a degree in English from Arkansas State University.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend funeral services Sunday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Roller-Swift Funeral Home, U.S. 61 South, Osceola.
Visitation at Osceola will begin at noon on Sunday.
Visitation at Covington will be this evening from 6-9 in E.J. Fielding Funeral Home Inc., 2260 West 21st Ave., Covington 70433.
Interment will follow services on Sunday in Bassett Cemetery.
Virginia Thomas
PARAGOULD — Virginia Thomas, 69, of Paragould died Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2008, at St. Vincent’s Infirmary at Little Rock.
Born Oct. 19, 1938, to Rex and Violet Roberts Lawrence, she married Leo Thomas in September 1965. She was a licensed practical nurse at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center until her retirement in 2003. She was also an active member of the AMMC Retirees and River of Life Church.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Shirley Thomas of Jonesboro; her mother, Violet Ford of Paragould; three sisters, Thelma Jean Johnson and Dorothy Lawrence, both of Paragould, and Joyceann Martin of Jonesboro; two brothers, Rilo Lawrence of Jonesboro and John Lawrence of Imperial, Mo.; a granddaughter, Misty Turner; and a great-grandson, Kaden Turner of Jonesboro.
She was preceded in death by her husband; father; two brothers, Rexford and Ruben; sister, Roberta Bush; and stepmother, Ruby Bobbitt.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Roller-Farmers Union Chapel with the Revs. Floyd Ryles and Don Mitchell officiating. Burial will follow in Philadelphia Cemetery.
Pallbearers will include John Lawrence, Stephen Lawrence, Jeremy Wegner, Charles Roberts, Elvis Clark and William Clark Jr.
The Rev. David White will serve as an honorary bearer.
Visitation will be from 5-8 this evening in the funeral home.
Maxine A. Winspear
POCAHONTAS — Maxine A. Winspear, 81, of Pocahontas, daughter of Wayne Showers and Gwendolyn Keck Showers, died Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2008, at NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital at Jonesboro.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father; her husband; three brothers, Dwayne, Randy and Jimmy; and one sister, Audrey
She was born April 6, 1927, in Pennsylvania. She was united in marriage to the love of her life, George K. Winspear Sr., on Jan. 1, 1953, at Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
She worked for Dunlop making blimps and gaskets during World War II. She loved farming, cooking and raising her children.
She traveled extensively and lived in Pennsylvania, New York, Texas, Florida, Oregon, Colorado and Arkansas. She loved to camp and was always up for a new adventure. She loved to go for car rides to see the beautiful scenery.
She owned and operated a restaurant in Pedee, Ore., where the truckers would line the roads to eat her pies. She was also of the Baptist belief. She loved people and people loved her. She will be missed.
She is survived by five children, G. Linda Paul, Donie K. Kinkade, Ellen J. Staton, George K. Winspear Jr. and Staff Sgt. Glenda I. Windspear; eight grandchildren, Gerri Lamb, Krista Leubner, Sheri-Lynn Lucas, Michelle Yun, Michael Winspear, Staff Sgt. Shawn Winspear, Jason Winspear and Thomas G. Bent; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; three brothers, Frank Showers, William Showers and Robert Showers; two sisters, Bonnie Gilbert and Peggy DelMonico; several nieces, nephews and many friends.
Memorial services will be Saturday at 4 p.m. in Koinia Church at Imboden under the direction of Cox-Waymon Funeral Home of Pocahontas.
Katherine Louise Wood
MESA, Ariz. — Katherine Louise Johnson Wood of Mesa passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Aug. 12, 2008, at the age of 84.
Louise started her life journey April 22, 1924, at Spring Hill, Tenn. As a young woman she traveled to Trumann where she met and married the love of her life, M. Douglas “Babe” Wood Sr. They first settled in Jonesboro, but following Babe’s service during World War II in the U.S. Navy, they relocated to Detroit to raise their young family. In their later years they again moved, finally settling in Mesa.
Louise was a homemaker, retail clerk, co-owner of a Dunkin’ Donuts and a Norgetown Cleaners. She assembled circuit boards at General Semiconductor Industries and Motorola Corp., and worked in the cafeteria at Mountain View High School in Mesa.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Babe.
She is survived by daughters, Kathryn (Jim) King of Henderson, Nev., and Deborah Wood of Gilbert, Ariz.; sons, M. Douglas (Crystal) Wood Jr. of Little Rock and Stuart (Charlyn) Wood of Glendale, Ariz.; seven grandchildren, Gary and Michael King of Henderson, Gregory and Jeffrey Wood of Little Rock, Laura Wood of Parker, Colo., David Wood of Surprise, Ariz., and Rachel Wood of Glendale; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, in Highland Drive Christian Church with Brad Clark officiating. Burial will follow in Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery
with Emerson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers will be John Craft, Doug Wood, Mike Lofton, Bill Wood, Mike Sowell and Jerry Pickering.
Visitation will be from noon until service time Saturday in the church.
Jennifer Joann Anderson
HORSESHOE BEND — Jennifer Joann Anderson, 28, of Horseshoe Bend died Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2008, at Fulton County Hospital in Salem.
She was born at Searcy, grew up in California and had lived the past 13 years in Horseshoe Bend and Trumann.
Jennifer had a loving spirit; to know her was to love her. She enjoyed talking on the phone, collecting stuffed frogs and attending family cookouts.
Jennifer is survived by her parents, Randy and Nancy Anderson of Horseshoe Bend; brothers, Raymond Reynolds of Visalia, Calif., John Reynolds of Seattle and Christian Carbajal of Searcy; sisters, Victoria Reynolds of Searcy and Crystal Anderson of Trumann; grandfather, L.C. Huckabee; her biological mother, Cathy Carbajal; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and many, many friends.
She was preceded in death by her “Papa,” Gene Anderson; grandparents, Mary Jane Anderson, Gonzalo and Mary Flores and Neal Huckabee; and uncles, Jerry Alberson, Larry Dean Alberson, Paul Flores and Tim Huckabee.
Funeral services will be held Monday at Emerson Memorial Chapel at 2 p.m. with Darrel Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Herman Cemetery
with Emerson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Active pallbearers will be Gary Jeffers, Donald Hill Jr., Randy Hinton, Mike Pinkonsly, Danny Dunlap, James Dunlap, Raymond Reynolds and Kelly Alberson.
Honorary pallbearers will be her “Huncle” Donald Hill Sr., Randy Anderson, Joe Miller and Todd Miller.
Visitation will be Monday from noon until service time in the funeral home.
Nellie Diven
JONESBORO — Nellie Diven, 85, of Jonesboro died Thursday, Aug. 21, at St. Bernards Medical Center.
Nellie and her husband Lyle moved to Jonesboro in 1987. Nellie volunteered as a Pink Lady for the St. Bernards Hospital Auxiliary and was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Order of Eastern Star.
Nellie lived at Southwind Heights Retirement Home and later St. Elizabeth’s Place Care Facility.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Dr. John and Rosemary Ball; and her grandchildren, Benjamin Ball and Cary Lynne Davis, all of Jonesboro.
Graveside services were Sunday in Oakwood Cemetery
at Lewis, Iowa.

HARDY — Catherine Ann Elliott, 53, of Hardy, formerly of Ohio, died Friday at her residence.
She was preceded in death by her father, Homer Jones; and a brother, Joe Jones.
Survivors include her husband of 35 years, Randy Elliott; mother, Mary Jones; sons and spouses, Randy (Amanda) Elliott II and Jesse (Edith) Elliott; sister, Theresa McAnich; brothers, Tony, Donald, Jimmy, Bobby, Charlie and Johnny Jones; and grandchildren, Tyler, Riley, Austin and Kyle.
Services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Tri-County Funeral Home at Highland with Keith Lewis officiating.
Visitation is Monday night from 6-8 in the funeral home.
Robert F. Hall
PIGGOTT — Robert F. Hall, 75, of Piggott passed away Friday, Aug. 22, 2008, at Piggott Community Hospital.
He was a son of the late Randall and Nova Duckworth Hall.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Hall of Piggott; his children, Robert D. Hall, Becky Erwin and Marcus Hall, all of Piggott; three stepchildren; four grandchildren; 10 stepgrandchildren; brother, Billy Hall of Piggott; and sister, Ellen Brannon of Rector.
Services are Monday at 10 a.m. in Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home at Piggott with Bill Newman officiating. Burial will be in Mars Hill Cemetery.
Visitation is tonight at 6 in the funeral home.
