Robert Paul Arnn
HILLSDALE, Mich. — Robert Paul Arnn passed away at Hillsdale on Wednesday, July 9, 2008.
Born in Sidney on Aug. 8, 1927, he was the son of Addison and Alice Arnn and the eldest of seven children. He was the husband of the late and beloved Georgia Asberry Arnn for 53 years, who was the partner and the imperative force in his life.
They leave three surviving children, Vicki Schramm of Ashland, Ohio, Larry Arnn of Hillsdale and Deborah Boston of Fort Worth, Texas.
The first of his family to graduate from college, Paul attended Arkansas (now Lyon) College and the University of Arkansas on the G.I. bill. He served in the Army in 1944-45.
He taught at Pocahontas High School for almost 30 years. In 1986-87 he was named teacher of the year for the state of Arkansas in general cooperative education, a program devised to teach work skills to high school students.
Several of his teams won state competitions over his career. He took pride in teaching character, hard work and good conduct. He liked to say that a good worker and a good citizen is civilized, dignified and reserved. Letters from his students testify that many learned those virtues in his classroom.
Like so many who grew up in the Arkansas hills during the Depression, Paul was a tireless worker. He kept score at sports events, drove a school bus, directed plays, advised the yearbook and found his professional happiness in the work of teaching. He sold real estate for decades to supplement the family income.
In high school Paul was chairman of a committee to draft a constitution for the student council. They modeled the document, Paul would say, on the United States, the Arkansas and the Kentucky constitutions. This began a lifelong interest in citizenship and in American history. His library is full of books about those subjects. His wife would say, “You cannot give Paul a book too big, especially if it is a history book.”
Paul attended the Highway 62 West Church of Christ. He loved to hunt, fish and watch the Cardinals play baseball. He was an avid checkers player who recently vanquished all comers in Hillsdale County, Mich.
Paul was preceded in death by two brothers, Gerald and Boyce; and by the adored Georgia.
He is survived by a brother, Wilbur; three sisters, Nona Faye, Nita and Viola; by his children and nine grandchildren. They remember him as a sage, full of fun and inspiring talk; as a fighter, full of principle and commitment; as a servant, caring to the last for the good of others first.
Visitation will be Monday evening from 5-7 in McNabb Funeral Home, 2129 Park St., Pocahontas.
The funeral service will be at the same place Tuesday morning at 10. There will be a lunch for all funeral guests after the graveside service in Highway 62 West Church of Christ at Pocahontas.

Johnson S. Clifton Sr.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Johnson Stewart Clifton Sr., 80, of Nashville died Thursday, July 10, 2008.
He was preceded in death by parents, Emma Lula Clifton and B.C. Clifton Sr. of Memphis; sister, Billie Gene Davis; and brother, Buford C. Clifton Jr.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Betty Ann Roberson Clifton; son, Johnson Stewart (Louise) Clifton Jr.; daughter, Robbie Linville Clifton (Michael) Pinter; and three grandsons, Jeffrey Johnson Clifton, Phillip Ellis Clifton and Nicholas Linville Pinter, all of Nashville; brother-in-law, Jack Davis of Charlotte, N.C.; sister-in-law, Ruth Clifton of Memphis; and several nieces and nephews.
A native Memphian, he began work in his family’s grocery store and later joined in the family construction business. He also served in the U.S. Navy.
He moved to Jonesboro in 1963, where he continued his career as a sales representative for a building materials manufacturer. He enjoyed many great friends and business associates in Jonesboro.
Johnson and Betty moved to Nashville in 2006 to be near children and grandchildren. He was devoted to and proud of his family.
A graveside service will be held in Memorial Park Funeral Home at Memphis at 11:30 a.m. Monday following a visitation at 11. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Glendale Baptist Church, Nashville, where he was a member.
Memorial donations may be made to Alive Hospice in Nashville, Benton Hall Academy in Franklin, Tenn., or Glendale Baptist Church.
W.J. Darby
JONESBORO — W.J. Darby, 80, of Jonesboro died Friday, July 11, at Jonesboro.
Darby was a retired firefighter for West Memphis.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Darby; parents, Ralph and Laura Pearl Darby; and two sisters.
Survivors include his daughter, Pat Looney of Jonesboro; and sisters, Evelyn Taylor of Michie, Tenn., and Lessie McCarter of Corinth, Miss.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday in Shackelford Funeral Directors of Selmer, Tenn., with Jetta Forsythe officiating. Burial will be in Lake Hill Memorial Gardens at Bethel Springs, Tenn.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until service time Monday in the funeral home.
Paul Keith Farley
PARAGOULD — Paul Keith Farley, 52, of Paragould died Friday, July 11, 2008, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.
Mr. Farley was born July 20, 1955, at Paragould. He was a truck driver.
Survivors include two daughters, Misty Johnston and Lisa Farley, both of Paragould; two brothers, Gary L. Farley of Mansfield, Ohio, and Terry Farley of Paragould; two sisters, Sue Friar of Paragould and Beth Ward of Powhatan; and five grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Sunday in Mitchell Funeral Home at Paragould.
There will be no public funeral service.
Easter Denise Franklin
BLYTHEVILLE — Easter Denise Franklin, 29, of Blytheville died Tuesday, July 8, 2008.
Survivors include her father, Charles Franklin; mother, Melinda Franklin; two sons; two daughters; two brothers; and one sister.
Services will be Tuesday at noon in Prince of Peace Church at Blytheville with burial in Memory Gardens under the direction of Wilson Funeral Home of Blytheville.
Visitation will be Monday evening from 6-8 in the funeral home.
Carroll Galloway
LEACHVILLE — Carroll Galloway of Leachville died Friday morning at his home.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Howard Funeral Service of Leachville.
Offie Mae Gray
WYNNE — Offie Mae Gray, 65, of Wynne died Wednesday, July 9, 2008, at St. Bernards Medical Center at Jonesboro.
She was a lifelong resident of Wynne and member of AARP and the Governor’s Medicaid Commission.
Survivors include her son, Jeffery Gray; daughters, Wanda Gray Bailey and Renee Nicole Gray, all of Wynne; sister, Margaret Lawson of Pueblo, Colo.; and brother, Ollie Williams of Memphis.
Services will be Monday at 1 p.m. in Union Valley Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will be in Crutcher Cemetery
at Wynne with the Rev. Roy C. Nelms officiating.
Visitation will be Sunday evening from 6-7 in Woodard’s Wynne Funeral Home.
Clister Hall
HARRISBURG — Clister Hall, 86, of Harrisburg departed this life Friday, July 11, 2008.
She was a member of New Vision Church of God, Anderson Tulley Homemaker’s Club and was active in Harrisburg Senior Citizens. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, quilting and spending time with family and friends.
Mrs. Hall is survived by one daughter, Leola Mitleff; one son, Henry Hall; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Jackson’s Funeral Home Chapel with Greg Hoskin and Albert Jenkins officiating. Interment will follow in Gracelawn Cemetery
at Tuckerman.
Visitation will be Sunday evening from 6-8.
Eugene Mileski
JONESBORO — Eugene “Gene Geno” Mileski, 82, of Jonesboro died Thursday, July 10, 2008, at Jonesboro Healthcare Center at Jonesboro.
He was born at Kingston, Mich., and lived in the Lake City and Jonesboro area for years. He was an apartment manager and a Navy veteran.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank R. and Nettie Gougen Mileski; son, Anthony Eugene Mileski; three brothers, Anthony, Francis and Emory Mileski; and four sisters, Aileene Putnam, Josephine Hermans, Mary Julia Smith and Donna Jeanne Putnam.
Survivors include two sons, Emory Mileski of California and Miles Mileski of Michigan; daughter, Tanya Taylor of Jonesboro; three sisters, Doris Hermans, Jeanette Losey and June Loeffler; 11 grandchildren, Ryan Orduno, Michelle Abedrabo, April Harrington, Michael, Erin, Erik, Stephen, Toby, Nicole Mileski, Tracy Baker and Paige Box; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be private under the direction of Emerson Funeral Home in Jonesboro.
Lettie Moten
WYNNE — Lettie “Pat” Moten, 48, of Wynne died July 4, 2008.
She was a lifelong resident of Wynne.
Survivors include her daughters, Koreckia Moten, Latavia Marshall and Kessa Marshall, all of Wynne; parents, Lettie Moten of Wynne and Curley Moten of Hughes; sisters, Sally R. Moten of Wynne and Nola Ann Dawson of Dallas; and six grandchildren.
Services will be today at 10 a.m. in Woodard Funeral Chapel at Wynne. Burial will be in Mount Moriah Cemetery
at Vanndale with the Rev. Julius Hill officiating.
