Terry Polston

LAKE CITY — Terry Polston, 47, Lake City, died Wednesday at his home.

He lived in the Jonesboro area for 30 years. He loved to hunt, fish and was an advocate for the disabled.

He is survived by his wife, Brenda Polston, Lake City; sons, Robert Anthony Polston, Strawberry, David Ryan Polston, Clarksville, Tenn.; parents, Jerry and Verlin Polston, Springdale; brother and sister-in-law, Thomas and Diane Polston, Clifty; sisters and brothers-in-law, Twana and Russell Miller, Evening Shade, Tonya and John Heckman, Sherwood, Tracy and Tim Day, Springdale; his grandson, Taylor Blake Hugg; and his grandmother, Pauline Mullins, Springdale.

A memorial service will be held this afternoon at 2 in Bethabara Baptist Church at Lake City.

Honorary pallbearers will include Allen Polston, Kenny Polston, Timmy Polston, Christopher Polston, David Ryan Polston, Robert Polston, Donivan Jones and James Willard.

Juanita Vowell

PARAGOULD — Juanita Rose Vowell, 85, of Paragould died Sunday at Paragould Health and Rehab Center.

Born in Flippin, Mrs. Vowell lived in Lepanto, Rivervale and Caraway before moving to Paragould 20 years ago. She was a homemaker and member of Eastside Baptist Church in Paragould.

Mrs. Vowell was preceded in death by her husband, O. Edgar Vowell; two sons, Marlon Vowell and Verlon Vowell; parents, Alfred and Lucy Coy Rose; one grandchild; three great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Cloia Rose, Melvin Rose and Leonard Rose.

Survivors include three daughters, Lois Mason of Rector, Wanda Vowell of Paragould and Marilyn Thomas of Jonesboro; seven sons, Bobby Wortham of Brookland, Lloyd Vowell of Lexington, Tenn., Floyd Vowell and Byron Vowell, both of Trumann, Owen Vowell of Marked Tree, Carlos Vowell of Alexandria, and Thomas Vowell of Edwardsville, Ill.; two sisters, Leota Perrin of Jonesboro and Elizabeth Roach of Lepanto; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be this afternoon at 2 in Emerson Memorial Chapel at Jonesboro with the Rev. Dennis Scudder officiating. Burial will follow in Purcell Cemetery near Marmaduke.

Pallbearers will be Anthony Timms, Calvin Fletcher, Jimmy Rose, Raymond Miller, Jerry Gray, David Wortham and Justin Wortham.

Thomas Averhart

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — Thomas Gene Averhart, 73, passed away peacefully with his wife of 54 years by his side on Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2007.

Born at Bay, he moved to Chicago in 1954 where he worked at Brach Candy Co. for 25 years. Upon his retirement from Stepan Chemical Co. in Elwood, Ill., in 1997, he relocated to West Palm Beach.

He always had a love for hunting and was known as “Coonhunter” to many. He enjoyed his family and friends and was kind to all he met. He was an active church member of Apostolic Christian Church.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife, Annie O. Averhart. He was a loving father to Theresa (fiance Greg Smith) Averhart of Morris, Ill., Jim (Nancy) Averhart of West Palm Beach, Tom (Jill) Averhart of Jupiter, Fla., and Stephen (Stephanie) Averhart of West Palm Beach; proud grandfather of Amy, Jennifer, Michael, Rebecca, Danae, Allison, Alex and Bailey; and proud great-grandfather to TJ.

Also surviving are brothers and sisters, Chris (Glen) Young, Panzy (Ernie) Landreth, JW (Sharon) Averhart and Brenda (Bob) Lepold, all of Naylor, Mo., Mary Weiker of Clarkston, Wash., Billy Joe (Peggy) Averhart of Long Beach, Miss., Sarah Schinnerer of Biloxi, Miss., and Debbie Phillips of Gulfport, Miss.

Tom was preceded in death by his son, Michael Averhart, in 1974.

The Averhart family will receive their friends from noon-2 p.m. Sunday in Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home. Graveside services will follow at 3 p.m. in Pine Log Cemetery.

Willene Chapman

April 23, 1935 - Sept. 14, 2007

NEWARK — Mrs. Willene Chapman, 72, of Newark died Friday at Batesville.

Mrs. Chapman was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert; her parents, William and Ottie Akins; and one brother.

She is survived by one sister, Betty McLain of Newark; her sister-in-law, Mary Chapman Bennett; special nephews, Roger McLain and Joe Bennett; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Newark First Baptist Church. Interment is in Blue Springs Cemetery.

Visitation is tonight from 6-8.

Arrangements by Jackson’s Newark Funeral Home.

Juanita ‘Sister’ Davidson

JONESBORO — Juanita “Sister” Davidson, 84, of Jonesboro died Friday morning, Sept. 14, 2007, at NEA Medical Center.

She was born in Monette and had lived in Jonesboro since 1960. She was of the Baptist belief and was preceded in death by her husband, Avis Davidson, and a daughter, Marcella Davidson.

Survivors include her sons, Jerry Davidson and his wife Patsy and Morris “Butch” Davidson and his wife Linda, all of Jonesboro; and one grandson, Jonathan Davidson and his wife Terri of Little Rock.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Emerson Memorial Chapel with Bill Passmore and James Wells officiating and Emerson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers are Jimmy Girsham, Claud Harp, Tommy Simmons, Mark Travis, Brandon Travis and Russell Hall with burial to be private.

Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. Sunday in Emerson Funeral Home.

Eula Faye McCluskey

OXFORD, Miss. — Mrs. Eula Faye Beene McCluskey, 71, died Friday, Sept. 14, 2007.

Surviving are her husband, Herman E. McCluskey of Oxford; daughter, Brenda McCluskey Cobb of Oxford; son, Larry Eugene McCluskey of Jonesboro; brother, Billy Beene of Water Valley, Miss.; and four grandchildren.

The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. in Waller Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jimmy Pinkerton and the Rev. James McCluskey officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemtery at Water Valley.

Visitation will be today from 4-6 p.m. in the funeral home.

Mary Lou Parker

LEACHVILLE — Mary Lou Parker, 75, of Leachville died Thursday, Sept. 13, at Monette Manor Nursing Home.

Born at Senath, Mo., she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Ola Wilson Gholson and was a graduate of Senath High School.

She had been a Leachville resident for most of he life and was retired from the former Brown Shoe Company in Leachville. Mrs. Parker was a member of Leachville First Baptist Church.

Survivors include her son, Carnell “Bud” Parker of Leachville; daughter, Robbie Askue of Arbyrd, Mo.; brother, Ed Gholson of St. Peters, Mo.; and four sisters, Margaret Loveless of Eureka, Mo., Peggy Faulkner of Imperial, Mo., Bonnie Montgomery of Webster Groves, Mo., and Brenda Willcutt of Birmingham, Ala. She also leaves five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today in Howard Funeral Service Chapel at Leachville with the Rev. Paul Faulkner and the Rev. Rudy Davis officiating. Burial will follow in McGrew Cemetery near Senath.

Pallbearers will be James Thomas, Dean Thomas, Mark Johnson, Tommy Eldried, Randy Rose and Mike Willyard.

Nathan Neil Stallings

JONESBORO — Nathan Neil Stallings, 27, of Jonesboro died Thursday afternoon from injuries suffered in an airplane accident in Alabama.

Survivors include his wife, April Stallings of the home.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Emerson Funeral Home of Jonesboro.

Benjamin F. Griffin

JONESBORO — Benjamin F. “Bennie” Griffin, 80, of Jonesboro passed away peacefully Friday, Sept. 14, 2007, at Lakeside Nursing Home where he had been a resident since April.

Bennie, as everyone knew him, served in the Army during World War II in Hawaii. After retirement, Bennie talked a lot about Hawaii and wanted to go back for a visit but his health wouldn’t let him.

He was a master plumber for many years and enjoyed his work. If he wasn’t working, he was always puttering around in his workshop or visiting friends and neighbors and listening to his country music. He was of the Church of Christ belief.

Surviving are his two sons, Gary Griffin and Bobby Joe Griffin, both of Brookland; two grandsons, Connor Griffin and Garrett Griffin; two brothers, Jimmy Griffin and Danny Griffin, all of Jonesboro; four sisters, Dathel Lee of Jonesboro, Betty Smith of Yucaipa, Calif., and Belva Murray and Sammie Bullock, both of Trumann; and many nieces and nephews.

Bennie was preceded in death by his parents, J.A. “Bert” Griffin and Mary Ethel Griffin; an infant brother and sister; sisters, Edna Inez Griffin and Tressie Juanita Sala; and the mother of his two sons, Sharon Griffin.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Pine Hill Cemetery with Curtis Shatley and Leland Worlow officiating. Emerson Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.

Nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at Emerson Funeral Home.
