Bobby Earl Pitts

Bobby Earl Pitts, 69, of Clarksville died Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2001, at St. Vincent Infirmary Medical Center in Little Rock.

A native of Clarksville, he was a son of the late Clifford and Robbie Ragon Pitts, graduate of Clarksville High School, attended the University of the Ozarks, member of First Presbyterian Church, co-owner and founder of Nulyne, Inc., until 1992 when he sold the business and retired, charter member and past president of Clarksville Country Club, former member of the Arkansas National Guard 216th Medical Company for 18 years and served in the Bay of Pigs Conflict. He attended National Hardwood Lumber School in Memphis, Tenn., past president and member of Westside Hardwood Club, and former employee of Ozark Hardwood, Townsend Lumber in Stuttgart and Mulberry Lumber Company in Mulberry.

Survivors include his widow, Mary Barnes Pitts; one son and daughter-in-law, David and Paula Pitts of Clarksville; one brother and sister-in-law, Francis and Jane Pitts of Clarksville; three grandchildren, Mrs. Coleman (Wendy) Campbell of Little Rock, Kristi Fowler of Lamar, and John David Pitts of Clarksville; one great-grandchild, Olivia Grace Campbell of Little Rock; several stepgrandchildren; four sisters-in-law, Marguerite Terhune of Rome, Ga., Betty Paladino and Carol Holman, both of Clarksville, and Shirley Barnes of Cabot; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral was at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9, at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Lance Jones and Denton Tumbleson officiating.

Burial was in Oakland Cemetery under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.

Active pallbearers were Bruce Hawkins, Jerry Mayner, Ashley Davis, Billy Willis, Chuck Larrison, Robert Norris, Ken Miller, and Al Davis.

Honorary pallbearers were E. G. Smith, Buddy Callahan, Stewart Willey, Norman Crowden, Dr. Richard McKelvey, Bob Eddington, and Eddie King.

Dessie Wells Brock

Dessie Wells Brock, 95, of Clarksville died Sunday, Nov. 11, 2001, at Clarksville Convalescent Home.

She was a native of Johnson County, daughter of the late Guy and Delia Harris Love, widow of Walton Wells and Gene Brock, 1926 graduate of Clarksville High School, member of Union Grove Baptist Church and United Daughters of the Confederacy, and was an employee of King's Jewelry Store in Clarksville for several years.

Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Lorene and Bennie Ross of Clarksville; one granddaughter and spouse, Ann and Lee Roy Warren of Clarksville; two great-grandsons and spouses, Steve and Tracy Warren of Coal Hill and Richard and Tammy Warren of Clarksville; and three great-great-granddaughters, Morgan Warren and Katlynn Warren, both of Coal Hill, and Michaela Warren of Houston, Texas.

Graveside service and burial were at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, at Shady Grove Cemetery with Rev. Earl Sutton officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.

Eula T. Spencer

Eula (Tootsie) Spencer, 75, of Paris died Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2001, at Greenhurst Nursing Center in Charleston.

A native of Johnson County, she was a daughter of the late Ernest and Ellie Brady Mack, widow of Frank Spencer, Baptist, and was preceded in death by one son, James Frank Spencer; and one daughter, Retha Spencer.

She is survived by five daughters and sons-in-law, Wilma and Colin Turner of Cecil, LaNora and Jerry Gardner of Knoxville, Phyllis and Andy Willhite of Paris, Virginia and Joseph Corey of Clarksville, Tenn., and Joann and Ross Artist of Scott Air Force Base, Ind.; two sons, John Spencer and Henry Spencer, both of Paris; one sister, Maybell VerHuel of Arlington, Wash.; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Graveside service and burial were at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 9, at Brock Cemetery near London with Rev. Alfred Spencer officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Shinn Funeral Service of Russellville.

Helen A. Chynoweth

Helen Alma Skaggs Chynoweth, 80, of Lamar died Monday, Nov. 12, 2001, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.

She was a daughter of the late Willis G. and Betty Strickland Skaggs and widow of Fred Chynoweth.

She is survived by one daughter, Audrey Warren of Clarksville; one sister, Bonnie Baker of Antlers, Okla.; one brother, Denver Skaggs of Clarksville; and one grandson and spouse, Tony and Gina Warren of Clarksville.

Graveside service and burial will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, at Russell Cemetery at Ozone with Rev. Amos Pledger officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.

Mattie C. Walker

Mattie Carrie Walker, 94, of Coal Hill died Sunday, Nov. 11, 2001, at Lamar.

She was a member of First Baptist Church of Coal Hill, daughter of the late Osco Robert and Mary Agnes Mills Rogers, and widow of Alvin P. Walker.

She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Nancy Walker of Coal Hill; four grandchildren, Karen Muldoon, Teresa Jackson, Michael Walker, and Jennifer Criss, all of Coal Hill; and four great-grandchildren, Sara Muldoon, Nikki Jackson, Dylan Jackson, and Kelsey Criss, all of Coal Hill.

Graveside service and burial were at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, at Oakland Cemetery with Rev. Bill Powell officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.

Honorary pallbearers were Darryl Muldoon, Keith Jackson, Heath Criss, Michael Walker, and Tommy York.

Ortha Brasher

Ortha Brasher, 79, of Poteau, Okla., sister of Neomia Marlow and Bobby Wayne Cagle, both of Clarksville, died Monday, Nov. 5, 2001, in Poteau, Okla.

She was the widow of Jack Brasher and a member of Poteau First Church of the Nazarene.

Survivors include four daughters, Sadie Harris, Carol Hunter and Donna Thornburg, all of Poteau, Okla., and Diana Walker of Poplar Bluff, Mo.; three sons, Lloyd Carol of Hogeye, Okla., and Raymond and Tim Brasher, both of Poteau, Okla.; four other sisters, Dorthy Pigg of Locust Grove, Okla., Marie Dickerson of Charleston, Jessie Dickerson of Ratcliff, and Ellie Cagle of Ozark; one other brother, Elger Cagle of Exeter, Mo.; 21 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

Opal Carothers

Opal Carothers, 90, of Denton, Texas, died Monday, Nov. 12, 2001, at Vintage Care Center.

She was a graduate of the University of the Ozarks in Clarksville, native of Ozark, daughter of the late B. F. and Walsie Belle Mitchell, member of the Singing Oaks Church of Christ, Order of Eastern Star, National Association of Retired Federal Employees, AARP, and Forum Department of Shakespear Club, and was retired from the Veterans Administration in Little Rock.

She is survived by one sister, Wanda Belcher of Sanger, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, at De Berry Funeral Directors Chapel in Denton, Texas, with Terry Collins officiating. Graveside services and burial will follow at 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, at the Knoxville Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

Wanda B. Dunn

Wanda B. Dunn, 69, of Paris died Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2001, at Paris.

She was a machine operator for Chefs Best Foods, member of Lighthouse Tabernacle Church in Paris, daughter of the late A. C. and Flora Harden Nichols, and was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Lou Helms.

Survivors include her husband, James Dunn; two daughters, Sharon Morris and Janet Weldy, both of Clarksville; three sisters, Martha Holt and Wilma Coker, both of Sacramento, Calif., and Juanita Willis of Paris; and two grandchildren.

Funeral was at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 9, at the Lighthouse Tabernacle Church.

Burial was in Baxley Cemetery at Paris under the direction of Roller Funeral Home of Paris.

Active pallbearers were Junior Crane, David Berry, Charles White, Don Sims, Bobby Qualls, and Phillip Moore.

Honorary pallbearers were Josh Beers, Jamie Beers, and Shannan Roberts.

Allan Dale Sturdivant

Allan Dale Sturdivant, 46, of Ozark died Monday, Dec. 10, 2001, at St. Edward Mercy Medical Center in Fort Smith from injuries sustained when his four-door 1994 Nissan Maxima struck a stray cow at 10824 State Highway 129 on Sunday night, Dec. 2, as he was en route home from church.

He was a supervisor for Tyson Foods in Clarksville, member of Trinity Chapel Pentecostal Church of God in Clarksville, and a native of Elk City, Okla.

Survivors include his widow, Donna Sturdivant; two daughters, Dana Sturdivant and Breanna Sturdivant, both of the home; parents, Kenneth and Zenith Hall Sturdivant of Ozark; grandfather, Russell Hall of Elk City, Okla.; two sisters, Brenda Beard and Rhonda Dutton, both of Ozark; and one brother, T. L. Sturdivant of Ozark.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, at the Free Will Baptist Church in Ozark with Rev. Terry Schlinker and Rev. Eddie Jones officiating.

Burial will be in Hickory Grove Cemetery at Ozark under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home.
