Larry Moore
Larry Junior Moore, 65, of Van Buren died Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2003, at a local hospital. He was a lifelong resident of Crawford County and self-employed in the construction business. He was a member of the Local Carpenter’s Union No. 71 and a veteran of the Army.
He is survived by a daughter, Vanessa Lorene Dale of Alma; a son, Larry Wayne Moore of Jonesboro; four sisters, Martha Jane Grayson of Cedarville, Betty Jean Wilson and Terry Hicks, both of Van Buren, and Patsy Ann Moore of Pearl River, La.; four brothers, Bobby Lee Jones of Rudy and James A. Moore, J.L. Moore and Paul Wayne Moore, all of Van Buren; three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside service was held Sept. 26 at Shamrock Cemetery near Cove City under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
Pallbearers were Bill Daunis, David Boster, Leroy Jones, James Moore, David Moore and Barry Wilson.
Honorary pallbearers were Dave Lowrey, Jerry Don Testerman and Harold “Doc” Pearcy.

Juanita Danner
Juanita Danner, 75, of Van Buren died Friday, Sept. 26, 2003, in Van Buren. She was a member of Ashland Baptist Church and the retired owner of a Phillips 66 gas station.
Memorial service will be held Oct. 4 at Marcy & Svoboda Mortuaries in Ashland, Neb. Local arrangements are under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
She is survived by two daughters, Connie Gilbreth of Van Buren and Cindy White of Commerce, Texas; two sons, Richard Danner of Picayune, Miss., and Kenny Danner of Ashland; two sisters, Ardella Guyette of Hillsboro, Ore., and Loretta Brophy of Ashland; two half sisters, Norma Riley and Philliss Johnson; two half brothers, Bob and Carl Campbell; 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

William Hopkins
William Ransford Hopkins, 87, of Natural Dam died Saturday, Sept., 27, 2003, at a local hospital. He was a retired farmer and operated a sawmill for many years. He was the widower of Geneva Hopkins.
He is survived by three daughters, Clara Hopkins and Shirley Smithson, both of Van Buren, and Mary Carter of Natural Dam; two sons, Darrall Hopkins of the home and Carrol Hopkins of Natural Dam; three sisters, Tressie Hall of Alma, Florence Fields of Chouteau, Okla., and Cleta Jones of Owasso, Okla.; two brothers, Ray Hopkins of Owasso and Clifford Hopkins of Van Buren; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Sept. 30 at Grandview Assembly of God in Natural Dam with burial at Hall Cemetery under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
Pallbearers were Josh and Zach Carter, Johnny Conner, Floyd Rogers, Bud Pruitt and Jim Hopkins. Honorary pallbearers will be Johnny Bond, Scott Knight, Vernon Russell, David Goss, T.J. Brown, Carl Franklin, LeRoy Franklin and Mike Murphy.

Jessie Mills
Jessie Mills, 90, of Kibler died Friday, Sept. 26, 2003, in a local hospital. She was a homemaker, a lifelong resident of Crawford County and a member of Kibler Assembly of God. She was the widow of Joe Mills.
Graveside service was held Sept. 29 at Gill Cemetery under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren.
She is survived by a daughter, Shelba Lacey of Kibler; a son, Anthony Mills of Kibler; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Jesse Brannam
Jesse D. Brannam, 79, of Fort Smith died Saturday, Sept. 27, 2003, in Oklahoma City. He was a retired Navy veteran, having served in the World War II and the Korean Wars, and was a retired salesman for Glidewell Distributing Co. after 25 years.
Graveside service was held Oct. 1 at Dyer City Cemetery Arbor with military honors under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
He is survived by his wife, Geneva; two daughters, Gale Sneed of Moore, Okla., and Danna Hibben of San Diego; two sons, Terry Brannam of San Diego and Michael Brannam of Seattle; three sisters, Thelma Wilkins of Glendora, Calif., Phyllis Howard of Hitchcock, Texas, and Sue Weatherbee of Riverside, Calif.; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Arthur Geary
Arthur Franklin Geary, 80, of Van Buren died Friday, Sept. 26, 2003, at his home. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, having served aboard the USS Callhan, and was retired from Chevron Oil Co. He was a member of Van Buren Masonic Lodge No. 6, the Royal Arch, Chapter No. 3 and the Van Buren First Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by his wife, Lois; three daughters, Priscilla Moore and Pamela Geary, both of Van Buren, and Nancy Geary of the home; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Sept. 29 at Ocker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Van Buren with Masonic graveside service at Gracelawn Cemetery in Van Buren.
Pallbearers were Masons.
Memorial contributions may be made to Van Buren Masonic Lodge No. 6, 18 Fayetteville Road, Van Buren, AR 72956.

Ruth Moore
Ruth Bateman Moore, 95, of Alma, formerly of Mena, died Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2003, at her home. She was a retired school teacher from Mena School System, a member of First Christian Church in Mena and the widow of Thomas Moore.
She is survived by two daughters, Ruth Kelly of Alma and Mary Reece of Aquadila, Puerto Rico; a son, Thomas Moore Jr. of Baton Rouge, La.; five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Sept. 27 at First Christian Church in Mena with burial at Pine Crest Cemetery in Mena under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Alma.
Pallbearers were Andrew, Benjamin and Johnathan Reece, David and John Kelly, Thomas Moore III, Ricky Fondren and Jason Goodson.
Honorary pallbearers were members of the Truth Seeker Sunday school class of First Christian Church in Mena.

Augusta Swearingen
Augusta E. Swearingen, 85, of Pittsburg died Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2003, in Pittsburg. She worked as an accountant at Fort Chaffee and for Skelly Trucking and Daisy Manufacturing. She was a member of College Heights United Methodist Church in Pittsburg, the Rebecca’s, the HEA Golden Circle and the Highland Meadows Sewing Circle. She was the widow of James Cook.
Memorial service was held Sept. 27 at the College Heights United Methodist Church in Pittsburg with burial of cremains Sept. 29 at U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Bath-Naylor Funeral Home of Pittsburg, Kan.
She is survived by five daughters, Carolyn Avery of Gladstone, Ill., Cora Reith of Fort Smith, Joyce Moody of Van Buren, Connie Hayden of Chester and Barbara Beitz of Welling, Okla.; three sons, James Cook of Pittsburg, Kan., Henry Cook of Scottsbluff, Neb., and Robert Swearingen of Clarksville, Tenn.; two sisters, Edith Thomas of Snohomish, Wash., and Anne Neubert of Great Falls, Mont.; 18 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to College Heights United Methodist Church, c/o Bath-Naylor Funeral Home, 522 S. Broadway, Pittsburg, KS 66762.

Michael Mondier
Michael C. Mondier, 52, of Van Buren died Saturday, Nov. 22, 2003, at his home. He was retired from the materials management department of St. Edward Mercy Medical Center. He was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus of St. Michael’s. He was a lifelong resident of Van Buren and a 1970 graduate of Van Buren High School.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; two sons, Mark and Matt Mondier, both of Van Buren; his mother, Mildred Mondier of Van Buren; and two brothers, David Mondier of Van Buren and Wayne Mondier of Fayetteville.
Rosary was held Nov. 24 at Ocker Funeral Home Chapel in Van Buren. Funeral was Nov. 25 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Van Buren with burial at Calvary Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Dennis Gann, Steve Tanner, Delmar and Terry Parks, Dorvan Wiley and Bill Vickery.

James Gill
James Arbert Gill, 93, of Alma, formerly of the Tate community in northern Scott County, died Friday, Nov. 21, 2003, in Ozark. He was retired from the Army Corps of Engineers and was a farmer. He was a member of the Union Hope Baptist Church at Tate. He was preceded in death by his wife, Clara Bell Wilson Gill; a son, James Dewain Gill; and two daughters, Wilma Jo Gill McBee and Martha Jane Gill.
He is survived by a son, Jerry Don Gill of Kibler; a daughter, Mary Ann Gill Taylor of Mulberry; 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Nov. 24 at McConnell Funeral Home Chapel in Greenwood with burial at Tate Cemetery in Tate.
Pallbearers were Benny M. Brigance, Neal and Todd Preston, Delbert and Omer Wilson and Dr. R. Lane Wilson.

William Morton
William J. “Bill” Morton, 75, of Van Buren died Friday, Nov. 21, 2003, at a local hospital. He was a self-employed building contractor and attended the Assembly of God.
Graveside service was held Nov. 25 at Holly Grove Cemetery near Hope under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren.
He is survived by his wife, Nealia; a daughter, Julie Morton of Van Buren; a son, Joe Morton of Washington, D.C.; and two brothers, James Roberts of Hope and Tommy Roberts of Austin, Texas.

Marie Dean
Marie “Ma” Dean, 84, of Fort Smith died Friday, Nov. 21, 2003, at a local hospital. She was a former owner and operator of Weber’s Root Beer in Fort Smith, a retired nurse’s aide working at both Sparks Regional Medical Center and St. Edward Mercy Medical Center, a member of the Friendly Pentecostal Church of God in Van Buren and the widow of Ben “Dizzy” Dean.
She is survived by a daughter, Sue Rogers of Van Buren; a son, Roy Dean of Roland; a sister, Mae Advant of California; 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Nov. 25 at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Smith with burial at Sallisaw City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jeremy Dean, Eric, Michael, and Jean Turic, Michael Lee Turic Jr. and Judy Ainsworth.
Memorial contributions may be made to Friendly Pentecostal Church of God in Van Buren.
