Mr. Mildred Hankerson Hewitt, 94, of Pine Bluff died Sunday, at Trinity Village Medical Center.
Mr. Hewitt was born November 29, 1907, in Grant County, to William Lewis and Minnie Brantley Huett(this spelling is correct)
He was reared and received his early education in Arkansas County, worked at the Pine Bluff Arsenal for a while, then began his career at the Cotton Belt Railroad in 1942 and it lasted until 1972, when he retired as a Locomotive-fireman.
He was a member of Hardin Baptist Church and the Brotherhood of Railway Firemen and Enginemen.
He married Elsie Cotner, August 7, 1933 in Humphrey.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a step-son, Eldon James Crabtree, five sisters, Mary Glover and Lois Munden, Zelma Fife, Gladys Billings, Ester Tiner, and a infant brother.
Survivors are a step-son, Clay D. Crabtree of Pine Bluff, four sisters, Idell Hewitt Ferguson of Hot Springs, Mabel H. Bowen of Hamburg, Minnie H. Bland of Natchez, Mississippi,Osa Lee Dixon of Winter Haven, Florida, five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, at the Chapel of Ralph Robinson and Son, with burial in Graceland Cemetery, with Reverend Arnold Billings officiating.
The family will receive friends at Ralph Robinson and Son, Monday evening, 5-6:30 PM.
The family will be at the Crabtree home, at 1900 W. 42nd Avenue, Pine Bluff.
Clyde D. Bailey
May 22, 1953 - March 7, 2009
Clyde D. Bailey, 55, of Pine Bluff, died Saturday, March 7, 2009 in Little Rock.
He was born May 22, 1953 in Lawton, Oklahoma, son of Rosie Tucker Bailey of Pine Bluff and the late Bruce Bailey.
Mr. Bailey was reared and received his early education in Grady, graduating from Grady High School.
He served in the U.S. Army for 18 years, which included deployments to Vietnam and Desert Storm. After retiring from the 
military, Mr. Bailey served in the Army Reserves in Pine Bluff for two years. He also worked as a guard for the Arkansas Department of Corrections.
Mr. Bailey was preceded in death by his brother, Bobby Bailey.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia McEntire Bailey, whom he married July 1, 1972 in Linwood; son, Patrick Scott Bailey and wife, Ann Marie, of Redfield; brother, Ray Brackenridge of Pine Bluff; three sisters, Jean Armitage of Pine Bluff, Wanda Whitten of Jerome and Patricia Potter of Little Rock; step-mother, Betty Bailey of Jacksonville; and a granddaughter, Amanda Wooley of Redfield.
Funeral services will be 12:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 11, 2009 in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son with Elder Lawrence Hobbs and Minister Michael Deloney officiating. Burial will follow in Arkansas State Veteran's Cemetery
in Sherwood.
Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. and 11:45 until service time Wednesday at Robinson's.
The family will be at 6506 Jones Street in Pine Bluff.
FaDelle Quattlebaum "Dell" Mullins (Lee)
March 3, 1935 - March 26, 2009
Dell Lee Quattlebaum Mullins, 74, of Pine Bluff, died Thursday, March 26, 2009 at home.
She was born March 3, 1935 in Monticello, daughter of Arthur Fuller Lee and FaDelle Hightower Lee.
Mrs. Mullins was reared and received her early education in Pine Bluff, graduating from Pine Bluff High School. She attended the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville.
She served as the Director of the Three Pines Riding Center.
Mrs. Mullins was a member of First Presbyterian Church and Central Presbyterian Church.
She was an active volunteer with the Pine Bluff Symphony, Junior League, DAR, 25 year Girl Scout and a past recipient of the Arkansas Times Volunteer Hero of the Year Award.
Dell was preceded in death by her first husband, Andrew Quattlebaum, whom she married April 2, 1955 in Pine Bluff; second husband, Robert Mullins; her parents; brother, Arthur David Lee; granddaughter, Andrea Lynn Santo; and son-in-law, Joe Santo.
Survivors include two daughters, Fadelle Quattlebaum Powell and her husband, Robert, of Little Rock and Janie Deem "Demps" Quattlebaum Santo of Pine Bluff; step-son, John J. Mullins; step-daughter, Pamela Ann Mullins; sister, Janie McNulty of Pine Bluff; three grandchildren, Robert Andrew Powell of Rockwall, Texas, Fadelle Lee Powell of Fayetteville and Joseph Baker Santo, Jr. of Pine Bluff; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Monday, March 30, 2009 in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son with Reverend Jim Freeman and Reverend David King officiating. Burial will follow in Bellwood Annex Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 3-5 p.m. at Robinson's.

Howard Phillips Parette, Sr.

Lifetime Community Leader, Howard P. Parette, Dies
Howard Phillips Parette, Sr., age 84 years, died Thursday in Pine Bluff having committed his life to preparing future leaders and serving the state and local communities through a wide array of organizations. Born May 7, 1924, he was one of four children born to the late Elmer Eugene Parette and Effie Phillips Parette of Morrilton, Arkansas.
During his formative years in Conway County, Mr. Parette was a 'Lone Scout' in the Boy Scouts of America, as well as an active member of a local 4-H club where he developed an understanding of the importance of 'service' to one's community. He attended Morrilton High School, followed by a short term of employment in Brideport, Connecticut, as a cadet aircraftsman for the U.S. Navy, Bureau of Aeronautics. He was drafted in the U.S. Army in 1943, and completed the Ranger Program, where he was a marksman and truck driver in the 536th Amphibian Tractor Batallion. He participated in numerous Pacific campaigns in the Phillipines, including the initial wave landing at Leyte, and in Okinawa. He subsequently received two Bronze Service stars for valor. Representing his batallion, he further distinguished himself as a Golden Glove boxer. Mr. Parette was a long time member of both the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Throughout his life he remained deeply committed to his fellow WWII comrades in arms with whom he served, and was strongly influenced to serve others as a result of his war experiences.
Following WWII, he attended Arkansas Polytechnic College and the University of Arkansas, receiving a bachelor's degree in Agriculture. He married the late Marjorie Edith Wright of Subiaco, Arkansas. on May 26, 1950, and moved to Plum Bayou where he taught vocational education, worked with the local Boy Scout troop, and served as a rural 'veterinarian' for the community. In 1952, he moved to Pine Bluff where he worked for Hardware Mutual Insurance company, followed by a 37-year career at the National Bank of Commerce and Worthen Bank Corporation before retirement in 1993.
He was a member of Good Faith United Methodist Church for 53 years, where he served in every capacity available to lay members including Church Board Member, Administrative Council, and Sunday School Teacher. Primary among his service work to youth was his dedication to the Boy Scouts of America for more than 55 years. He was both a Scoutmaster and Explorer Post Advisor, with a history of more than 45 years of work with Troop 380 in Pine Bluff. He developed advanced leadership skills through Wood Badge training and as a District and State Leadership Trainer. Mr. Parette received the Silver Beaver Award in 1966, the highest award given by the Boy Scouts of America at the State level, and received a range of distinctions over time for leadership activities. He received the Vigil Honor by the Quapaw Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America in 1967, and served both as a local Chapter Leader of Tri-County District, and a lodge leader in Quapaw Lodge 160.
Influenced by early experiences with 4-H clubs, he also committed more than 31 years to youth work as a founding leader of Willow Pride 4-H Club in Watson Chapel. For decades he was involved in leadership training at both the county and state levels, and was a member of the Jefferson County 4-H Foundation.
Mr. Parette served as a Commissioner of the Arkansas Regional Planning Commission since 1966, and was Chair of this planning group since 1999. He served as both a member and President of the Jefferson County Board of Education. Mr. Parette was a member and Chair of the Pine Bluff/ Jefferson County Economic Opportunities Commission, and also had served as Chair of the Pine Bluff Urban Area Transportation Coordinating Commission. He was a member of the Pine Bluff Kiwanis Club for 50 years, during which time he served in two different officer rotation cycles as President, and received the George F. Hixson medal in 1997. He was also acknowledged as Kiwanian of the Year on numerous occasions. He also served his community as a Justice of the Peace, Notary Public, and Deputy Sheriff. Mr. Parette is also a permanent member of the Arkansas Historical Society. He has been recognized for his lengthy leadership and service to the Regional Adult Education Center. His lifetime service accomplishments were recognized in 1990 when he was inducted into the Pine Bluff Leadership Hall of Fame and presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award.
He is survived by his wife, Alline Hays Parette, of Pine Bluff; two siblings, Louise Parette Gooden, of Alexandra, Virginia, and Bobbie Eugene Parette, of Little Rock; three sons, Howard Phillips Parette, Jr., of Bloomington, Illinois, Michael Dennie Parette and John Joseph Parette of Pine Bluff; and four grandchildren, John Jacob Parette, of Alma, Arkansas, Alexandria Hope Parette, of Pine Bluff, Erin Patricia Riches of Santa Monica, California, and Sean Goeffrey Riches of Columbia, Missouri.
Pallbearers will be William G. Smith, Kurt M. Lusinger, and Herman Little of Pine Bluff; Eddie M. Morris of Conway, Arkansas; John Arthur Phillips of Elkins, Arkansas; Keith Parette of Jacksonville, Florida; Ned Parette of Fayetteville; and David Schimmel of Pine Bluff.
Visitation services with the family will be held at Ralph Robinson and Son in Pine Bluff on Monday, March 30 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., with a formal service conducted at Good Faith-Carr Memorial United Methodist Church at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 31, 2009 with Reverend George Odell officiating. Graveside services will be held at Roselawn Cemetery, under the direction of Ralph Robinson & Son and with full military honors by the Thaddeus H. Caraway Post 2278 of the Veteran’s of Foreign Wars of Hot Springs. Martha Janet Turner (Nethercutt)
February 3, 1933 - March 29, 2009
Martha Janet Nethercutt Turner, 76, of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, died March 29, 2009, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Turner was born February 3, 1933, at Hermitage, Arkansas, the daughter of the late Jesse Garland and Mary Ruth Nethercutt. She graduated from Pine Bluff High School in 1951, after attending various schools in Arkansas and Tennessee. She married Charles Turner on August 19, 1951, in El Dorado, Arkansas. Mr. Turner was the son of late Otis and Bertha Turner, longtime residents of El Dorado. Mr. Charles Turner passed away on November 17, 2005.
Mrs. Turner worked in El Dorado at McCroy's Department Store and at a dress store, then moved to Pine Bluff where she was a homemaker for several years and raised four children. She worked for Sears in Pine Bluff for 25 years in various departments until she was forced to retire on disability.
Mrs. Turner helped organize the National Girls Ponytail Softball League, also serving as President and a coach.
She worked with the Boy's National League, serving as President of the Ladies Auxiliary Board for one year and team mother for three years while her three boys played Little League.
Mrs. Turner worked with the Pine Bluff Boys Club at 9th Avenue and Ash Street, as a team mom and a Little Pigs Cheerleader sponsor.
She was very involved in the schools. She served as Parent Teacher Association President at Sam Taylor Elementary, where she received the lifetime membership pin, and Dial Jr. High. she was also President of the Central Council Parent Teacher Association, where she received a lifetime membership.
Mrs. Turner was a member of the DuBocage Chapter of the ABWA, where she served as President, Vice-president, as well as several other capacities. She was also chosen Woman of the Year. She also attended National Conventions in San Antonio and Los Angeles, where she enjoyed meeting new people.
She was a charter member of Wesley United Methodist Church, which met under a tree before the building was built. She and her husband joined the church under the tree. She served the church in many areas. She taught a five year old Sunday School Class for ten years.
Mrs. Turner enjoyed traveling to see her children and grandchildren. She traveled to Michigan, California, Nevada, Texas, Missouri, and even Okinawa, Japan to see her children and grandchildren. She has also been to Florida, the Grand Canyon, Niagara Falls and Mexico. She also enjoyed crafts and reading.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Charles O. Turner.
Mrs. Turner is survived by her daughter, Pamela S. Turner of Pine Bluff; three sons, Larry E. Turner of Stuttgart, James Allen Turner of Memphis, Tennessee, and Charles Wade Turner of Sacramento, California. She is also survived by three sisters, and a brother; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Friday, April 3, 2009, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, at Robinson's.
Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, April 4, 2009, 10:00 AM, in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son with Reverend Jason Ferguson officiating. Interment will follow in Goodfaith Cemetery.
Orville Eugene Ledbetter
April 14, 1926 - March 31, 2009
Orville Eugene Ledbetter, 82, of Dumas, Arkansas, departed this life, Tuesday, March 31, 2009 at Delta Memorial Hospital in Dumas.
Born April 14, 1926, in St. Charles, Arkansas, he was a son of the late Nelson and Nora Adams Ledbetter. He was reared and received his education in several towns in South East Arkansas.
In September of 1944, Mr. Ledbetter joined the United States Navy. He served during World War II, in the Pacific Theater on the USS Rendova. After attaining the rank of Fireman First Class, he was honorably discharged in June of 1946.
In 1946 Mr. Ledbetter moved to Bearden, Arkansas, where he married Roxie Jean Bowman. Together they moved to Camden in 1949, living there for a number of years. Mr. Ledbetter was a Master Plumber who took jobs all over, causing him and his family to live in different cities in Arkansas. They moved to Arkadelphia and then on to England, where he was the England Water Plant Manager for over seven years. He and his family then moved to the Pine Bluff area, working for the City of Pine Bluff for seven years as the City Plumbing Inspector. He then became the owner and operator of Better's Plumbing, until his retirement in 1988. He and his wife then retired to a small community outside of Dumas.
"Mr. Led" or "Pop", as he is lovingly remembered, was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a Christian and enjoyed his daily Bible devotions with Brother Murray from Shepherds Chapel. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying both hunting and fishing.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and one son, Jerry Wayne Ledbetter in 2000.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Roxie Jean Ledbetter, of Dumas; two daughters, Jo Linda Ledbetter, of Dumas and Laurie Ann Minton (Delbert) of England; four grandchildren Scott Ledbetter, of Pine Bluff, Amy Woolridge (Chris), of Newalla, Oklahoma, Jennifer Belyea (Lewis), of Oklahoma City and Sable Minton, of England; and two great granddaughters Samantha Belyea and Katie Woolridge.
Graveside service will be held 2:00 PM, Thursday April 2, 2009, at Moss Cemetery
at Bearden, Arkansas. The family will receive friends Thursday morning from 10:00 AM - 12 noon at Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Home.
Herman Hutto
January 25, 1916 - April 2, 2009
Herman Hutto, 93, of Russellville, Arkansas, died Thursday, April 2, 2009, at St. Mary's Hospital in Russellville.
He was born January 25, 1916, in Grapevine, to Will O. and Georgia E. Fikes Hutto.
Mr. Hutto was reared and educated in Pine Bluff, graduating from Pine Bluff High School in 1934.
He served in the United States Navy during World War II.
He worked 38 years for the Cotton Belt Railroad, before retiring in 1979 as an Engineer.
He was a member of Russellville First Assembly, Pioneer Coffee Club and a lifetime member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers.
Mr. Hutto was a 32 degree mason and achieved the rank of KCCH. He was a member of the Jacob Brump Lodge F & A M #160, past High Priest of the York Rite bodies in Pine Bluff, where he had served as head of Sword and Trowel, Order of Eastern Star, chapter #40 in Pine Bluff, where he served as past Patron and Arkansas Valley, chapter #606 in Russellville, Sahara Shrine Temple and the White Hall American Legion Post #0232.
He was preceded in death by his first wife of 57 years, Mary B. Jackson Hutto.
Survivors include his wife Thelma Kinslow Hutto; a stepson, Floyd (Patsy) Kinslow of Atkins; a stepdaughter, Geanie Zwiebel of Las Vegas, Nevada; several grandchildren and several, nieces and nephews.
Graveside services by Ralph Robinson & Son of Pine Bluff, will be 3:00 PM, Saturday, April 4, 2009, in Graceland Cemetery
in Pine Bluff, with Reverend Charles Perry and Reverend Ronnie Morris officiating.
Cora Juanita "Sue" Hood
July 14, 1924 - June 11, 2009
Cora Juanita "Sue" Hood, 84, of Pine Bluff died Thursday, June 11, 2009, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Hood was born July 14, 1924 in Russellville, to Charles C. and Ethel Paralee Tillery Gross. She was reared and received her early education in Russellville, where she married Austin Paul Hood, September 30, 1940. They moved to Pine Bluff in 1942.
She was a member of First Assembly of God, where she, for many years, was active as a Sunday Scool teacher, and then later very active in the Nursing Home Ministry.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and two brothers, William J. Gross and Floyd C. Gross.
Graveside serivces will be 10:30 A.M. Monday, June 15, 2009, at Graceland Cemetery, with Reverends Dean Caldwell and Gary Bell officiating.
Visitation will be Sunday afternoon, 2-4 P.M., at Robinson's.
