Jesse Robert Levey
August 04, 1981 - April 12, 2002

Mr. Jesse R. Levey, age 20, passed away early Friday morning at Jefferson Regional Medical Center after a vehicle accident on highway 79.
Jesse was born on August 4, 1981 at Jefferson Regional Medical Center, Pine Bluff, a son of Robert B. and Elizabeth Berry Levey. His father preceded him in death in December of 1992. He graduated from Watson Chapel High School where he was an "all Conference Offensive Player." Mr. Levey was an avid outdoorsman, loving to hunt, fish and watersports. Jesse was a jeweler at Sissy's Log Cabin, and was taking pilot's instruction at Grider Aviation. Jesse was a member of the New Harvest Church of God, Ducks Unlimited and was as past member of the Watson Chapel Volunteer Fire Department.
Jesse Robert is survived by his mother, Elizabeth Levey and her Fiancé Mitch Shelton of Pine Bluff; a sister, Ms. Kerry Levey-Walters of Pine Bluff; a nephew, Master Dalton Walters and a niece, Miss Summer Walters both of Pine Bluff; several aunts and uncles, Sue (Hal) Kelly-Smith, Jane ( Ron) Manning and Brenda Hartsfield all of Pine Bluff, Mike Levey of Stuttgart, Arkansas, James Levey and Richard A. Levey both of Baton Rouge, LA.
Mr. Levey was preceded in death by his Father, Robert; his Paternal Grandparents, V.T. (Cotton) Levey and Velma Price; his Maternal Grandparents, Jesse L. And Elizabeth Simmons Berry.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 15, 2002, at 11:00 A.M. At the Chapel of Ralph Robinson and Son Funeral Directors, 807 Cherry Street, Pine Bluff. The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home on Sunday, April 14, 2002, from 2:30-5:30 p.m..
Burial will be at the Ramick Cemetery, Sulphur Springs Road, Pine Bluff..
Memorials may be made in the form of contributions to the Jesse R. Levey Scholarship in care of Pine Bluff National Bank.

Dr. Charles C. Pittman
March 10, 1919 - April 12, 2002

Chester C. Pittman, 83, a resident of 1703 West Christine, Peoria, Illinois died Friday, April 12, 2002 in Raleigh, North Carolina. He was born in Batesville, Arkansas, March 10, 1919 to Jessie Wren and Clarence H. Pittman. He married M. Dell Smithwick on June 26, 1943 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. He is survived by his wife Dell, one daughter, Susan Pittman Tompkins of Cary, North Carolina and one son, Reverend Dr. David C. Pittman of Richmond, California, five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and one niece. He was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother.
A graduate of Draughn's Business College, he attended Southwest Missouri State in Springfield, Missouri and Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois. He was an accountant and president of Crown Optical Company in Springfield, Missouri. He graduated from Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago as president and validictorian of the class of 1945 and joined the teaching staff following graduation. He became affiliated with the president of American Optometric Association in practice in Southern Illinois and served as chairman of the United Fund Drive in Chester, Illinois in 1948. He opened private practice in Peoria in 1957, retiring in 1988.
Dr. Pittman was a life member of the American Optometric Association, a past president of the Illinois Valley Optometric Society and was a past board member of the Illinois Optometric Association. He was a member of the Peoria Noon Optomist Club, serving as president in 1973 and 1974 and Lieutenent Governor of the Illinois District of Optomist International in 1975. He served on the board of Carver Center.
He was a member of the First Methodist Church and served on the Administrative Board, the Mission Work Area of the church. He was a member of CHC Sunday School class, Triple M and United Methodist Men.
Funeral services will be held at Ralph Robinson and Son Funeral Home, Tuesday, April 16, 2002, at 2:00 P.M., with son-in-law, Pastor Richard Tompkins and Reverend Bryan Jarrett officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, by Ralph Robinson and Son. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, April 19, 2002 at First United Methodist Church, Peoria, Illinois, with visitation one hour preceding both services.
Memorials may be made to First Assembly of God, 1002 Ridgway Road, Pine Bluff, 71603, or First United Methodist Church, 116 NE Perry, Peoria, Illinois, 61602.
The family will be at the home of Flo Smithwick, at 905 W. 45th Avenue.

Jimmie Harold Austin
July 22, 1934 - April 13, 2002

Harold Austin, age 67, passed away Saturday evening at Jefferson Regional MedicalCenter.
Mr. Austin was born on July 22, 1934 in Dumas, Arkansas, the son of Guy and Monte DeWeese Austin. He was reared in Dumas and attended the Gould Schools. He married Sylvia Sandage on October 18, 1952 in Benton, Arkansas. Harold founded and operates the Harold Austin Construction Company of Pine Bluff.
Harold is survived by his wife, of 49 years, Sylvia; one son, Ronnie (Tracey) of White Hall; one daughter, Gail (John) Lingo of White Hall; four (4) grandchildren, Nicholas and Tanner Austin and Erin and Rebecca Byerly all of White Hall.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a daughter Vickie Austin.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday. April 16, 2002, at 10:00 a.m. at the Chapel of Ralph Robinson and Son, 807 Cherry, Pine Bluff. The Rev. Mike Gilchrist will officiate. The family will receive friends, at the funeral home, tonight, 6:00-7:00 p.m. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery, Pine Bluff.

Sibyl C. ( Granny ) Rogers
March 20, 1929 - October 10, 2001

Sibyl C. "Granny" Rogers, 72 of Sheridan, Arkansas, died Wednesday at her home. She was born March 20, 1929, at Marked Tree, Arkansas, to the late John and Flora Dillow Angel. She married the late Robert Asa Rogers on March 18, 1953 in Greenville, Mississippi. He preceded her in death on November 25, 1966.
Mrs. Rogers was reared and received her early education in the Marked Tree area. She was a homemaker and a member of the Meadowview Southern Baptist Church.
Mrs. Rogers was also preceded in death by one sister, Mrs. Ruby Crane.
Mrs. Rogers is survived by five daughters, Catherine Crowe of Pine Bluff, Susan Lybrand of Grapevine, Judy Reeves of Pine Bluff, Joyce Brakebill of Sheridan, Arkansas, and Mary McClellan of Pine Bluff; one son, Charles Merrill of Pine Bluff; one brother, John Morris Angel of Missouri; and one sister, Marie Lawrence of Pine Bluff; 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Saturday, at 1:00 PM, in Robinson's Chapel with Interment in Bellwood Cemetery with Reverend Jerry Reeves officiating. Visitation will be Friday evening from 6 to 8 P M at the Funeral Home.
The family will be at the home of Susan Lybrand at 3052 Grant 21, Grapevine.

Dorothy Starr Coston
December 02, 1906 - April 15, 2002

Dorothy Coston, 95 of Pine Bluff, Arkansas died Monday, April 15, 2002 at Pathfinder Healthcare Nursing Home. She was born December 2, 1906 in Lewisville, Arkansas to Norman Edward and Selba Bennett Starr.
She was reared and educated Pine Bluff. Mrs. Coston married Robert A. Coston in Sheridan, Arkansas. She was a homemaker and a member of First Christian Church.
Mrs. Coston is preceded in death by her parents; husband; two daughters, Dorothy L. Schenider, Wilma Jean Smith, brother, Archie N. Starr; sisters, Dora A. Moore, Flossie Reeves and Zula Allen.
Survivors include a son, James M. Lyle III of Pensacola, Florida; ten grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a nephew, Herman Little of Pine Bluff; a niece, Mrs. Juanita Carlisle of Pineville, Louisiana; and a great-niece, Mrs. Brenda Watson of Pine Bluff.
Visitation, Tuesday 6 to 8 PM at Ralph Robinson's. Graveside service will be 10:00 AM, Wednesday, April 17, 2002 in Graceland Cemetery with Reverend Delores Stroud officiating.
The family will be at the home of Brenda Watson, 5024 Highway 79 South, Pine Bluff.

LaVonne Quinn Crause
September 15, 1914 - April 15, 2002

Lavonne Quinn Crause, 87, of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, died April 15, 2002, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center. She was born September 15, 1914 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas to the late Charles O. and Lela Baldwin Quinn.
She was reared and educated in Pine Bluff where she graduated from Pine Bluff High School in 1932. She was a member of the Glee Club and the Pine Cone staff. She was a homemaker and member of Lakeside United Methodist Church and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was an avid bridge player and a member Duplicate Bridge Club and honored as a Master Bridge Player. She played in tournamants around Arkansas and other states.
She is predeceased by her husband, Paul J. Crause who passed away September 27, 1992, her parents and a son, Paul J. Crause, Jr.
She is survived by her brother, Joe B. Quinn of Pine Bluff, Arkansas.
Visitation will be Tuesday 5 to 7 PM at Ralph Robinson's. Chapel service will be 2:00 PM, Wednesday, April 17, 2002. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery with the Reverends Mary Susan Hilliard and Ted DeWeese officiating.
Memorials may be made to Lakeside United Methodist Church, 1500 Olive Street, Pine Bluff, Arkansas, 71603.
The family will be located at the home of Joe Quinn, 2307 West 40th, Pine Bluff, Arkansas.

Anne Johnson Curry
May 10, 1919 - April 15, 2002

Anne Johnson Curry, 82, of 27 Summerset Place, Pine Bluff died Monday, at her home.
She was born May 10, 1919 in Pine Bluff to the late E.V. and Addie Mae Atkins Johnson. She was reared and received her early education in Pine Bluff, and received a degree in Nursing from Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in Memphis.
She was a registered nurse, working at Jefferson Regional Medical Center, retiring in 1985. She was a member of First Baptist Church, the John McAlmont Chapter, D.A.R., and was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling. She was awarded the most valuable volunteer award at Jefferson Regional Medical Center, in 1991-1992.
She married Gene Curry, June 7, 1944 in Pine Bluff. He preceded her in death, January 2, 2000.
Survivors are three sons, Pat Curry of Sikeston, Missouri, Scott Curry of Pine Bluff and Jeff Curry of Benton, and four grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 4:00 P.M. Wednesday, in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson and Son, with Reverend Gordon Topping officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, by Ralph Robinson and Son.
Memorials may be made to the donor's favorite charity.

Robert V. ( Bob ) Reynolds, Sr
September 11, 1942 - April 14, 2002

Robert V. Reynolds, age 59, of Pine Bluff, was killed in an automobile accident early Sunday in Clarksdale, MS.
Bob was born on September 11, 1942, in Warren, MI, a son of Willie Paul and Bonnie Mae Cole Reynolds. He was reared in the Warren / Detroit area and attended the Fitzgerald School System. He moved to Pine Bluff in 1970 where he has worked in the Auto Industry as a mechanic.
Mr. Reynolds is survived by three (3) sons, Robert Jr, Eddie and Ernest Reynolds all of Pine Bluff, two (2) brothers, Richard and Paul both of FL.; five (5) sisters, Louise Reeves of Dearborn Heights, MI, Shirley Stephens and Mickey Evans both of Pine Bluff, Rose Marie Kellems of Warren, MI and Peggy Parks of Pontiac, MI.; and four (4) grandchildren.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, and two (2) sisters.
Funeral services will be at 12:00 p.m. Friday at Ralph Robinson and Son Funeral Home, 807 Cherry, Pine Bluff.

Betty Jean Heath Raney
June 29, 1923 - April 20, 2002

Betty Jean Heath Raney, 78, of Ashland, Missouri, longtime Pine Bluff resident, died Saturday, April 20, 2002, at Ashland Heath Care in Ashland. Born in Harrison, Arkansas, on June 29, 1923, she was a daughter of the late Jerome Arthur and Edna Smiley Heath.
She was reared and received her early education in Harrison, graduating from high school there in 1941. She married Oliver C. Raney on March 17, 1944, and lived in Little Rock where Oliver attended medical school. The Raneys also resided in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Monroe, Louisiana, before moving to Pine Bluff in 1951 where Dr. Raney established his medical practice. While Dr. Raney practiced medicine, Mrs. Raney reared their children and was an active member of First Baptist Church. She enjoyed playing bridge in several bridge clubs, reading and knitting. She was a Pine Bluff resident for 42 years before moving to Ashland to be near her daughter. Dr. Raney died in 1995.
Survivors include two sons, Charles R. "Randy" Raney of Harrison, Arkansas, and Russell A. "Russ" Raney of Salem, Oregon; two daughters, Leah Beth Simon of Columbia, Missouri, and Lisa Raney of Eugene, Oregon; seven grandchildren; and her twin brother, Bob Heath of Alma, Arkansas. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Richard H. Raney in 1960, by brothers Kenneth and Russell, and by sisters Lola, Frances and Helen.
Services are Wednesday, April 24, 2002, at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son in Pine Bluff with Dr. John H. McClanahan and Reverend Gordon Topping officiating. Burial will follow in Graceland Cemetery. Memorials are requested to take the form of contributions to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, 6501 S. Hazel Street, Pine Bluff, Arkansas 71603.
The family will receive friends at Robinson's from 1:00 PM Wednesday until service time.
