Frank M. Shue
August 23, 1925 - February 24, 2002
Frank M. Shue, age 76, of White Hall, passed away at his home on Sunday, February 24, 2002.
Mr. Shue was born on August 23, 1925, in Morton, AR, the son of Frank M. and Jessie Mae Roberts Shue. He was raised in Woodruff County and received his early education in Hillemann and McCrory and graduated from McCrory High School. He married Betty Baswell on October 6, 1951. Frank joined the Navy and served in the South Pacific Theater during World War II. Mr. Shue retired in 1980 from the Pine Bluff Arsenal after 30 years of service where he was an electrician. He was a member of the Jacob Brump Masonic Lodge # 160, F&AM, Scottish Rite of Freemasonary, S.J., Valley of Little Rock, Sahara, A.A.O.N.M.S. of Pine Bluff, AR, and the Prince Rhodes American Legion Post # 112 in McCrory, AR Frank was the founding President of the Hardin Water Association.
Frank enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and bird watching.
Mr. Shue is survived by his wife, Betty; two sons, David and Gary of Pine Bluff; one daughter, Carolyn Shue of Pine Bluff; one brother, Irven of Sacramento, CA; and two grandchildren, Rachel and Laura.
Memorials may be made to the Arkansas Children's Hospital in Little Rock or the donor's choice.
Graveside services will be held Thursday, February 28, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. at the Hardin Cemetery, Pine Bluff with Rev. Clyde Jones officiating.. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 27, 2002 from 6-8 p.m. at the Ralph Robinson and Son Funeral Home, 807 Cherry, Pine Bluff.
Ernestine Theodocia Chambers Breedlove
November 18, 1911 - February 26, 2002
Ernestine Chambers Breedlove, 90, of Pine Bluff died Tuesday, February 26, 2002 at Arkansas Convalescent Center. She was born November 18, 1911 to William Camp and Patsey Patrick Chambers in Monticello, Arkansas.
Mrs. Breedlove was reared and educated in Drew County where she graduated from Drew Central High School. She also attended Arkansas A&M in Monticello.
Mrs. Breedlove married Cecil Owen Breedlove on August 10, 1931 in Jackson, Mississippi. They moved to Pine Bluff from Little Rock in 1946. She worked in sales at Banks & Winkler Jewelers for 25 years and then for a while at Sissy's Log Cabin.
Mrs. Breedlove was a member of Matthews Memorial Baptist Church and the Homemakers Sunday School Class. She enjoyed redesigning jewelry and was well known for stringing pearls.
Mrs. Breedlove was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Owen Breedlove; parents, William Camp and Patsey Patrick Chambers; brothers, Cecil, Harry and Adrian Chambers.
Survivors include a son, Bob Breedlove of Tyler, Texas; daughter, Pat Scallion McMinn of Hot Springs, Arkansas; brothers, Floyd, Felix, Lawrence Chambers of the Dallas Texas Area, Rudolph Chambers of Livingston, Texas, William Camp Chambers, Jr. of Kirbyville, Texas, D. W. Chambers of Monticello, Arkansas; sisters, Pauline Puls of Monticello, Arkansas, Crystal Fort of Cookeville, Tennessee; nine grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren.
Funeral services are 2:00 PM, Friday, March 1, 2002 in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son with Reverend Lyle Hern officiating. Visitation will follow after the service. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery.

Robert Richard Glass
January 17, 1944 - February 23, 2002
R. Richard Glass, 58, of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, died Saturday, February 23, 2002, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Pine Bluff. Born in Apalachicola, Florida, January 17, 1944, to the late Benjamin Robert and Ethelyne Bass Glass, Mr. Glass was reared and received his early education in Pine Bluff, graduating from Pine Bluff High School.
He joined International Paper Company at the Pine Bluff Mill in 1964. At the time of his death he was an operator in the super calendar department at the Mill.
Mr. Glass was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. A Mason, he was a member of Jacob Brump Lodge F&AM. In the 1960s he served in the Arkansas National Guard, 212th Signal Battalion, as a sergeant.
Survivors include a brother, James L. Glass of Pensacola, Florida; a half-brother, Bill Buzbee of Rockville, Maryland; Linda Glass; and nieces and nephews. A brother, Fred Glass, also preceded him in death.
Services are Friday, 4:00 PM, in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son in Pine Bluff with Bishop Mark Henscheid officiating.. Private committal services are Saturday in Salem Cemetery
near Bearden, Arkansas. The family will receive friends at Robinson's Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
Marion G. Shanafelt
August 10, 1908 - February 27, 2002
Marion G. Shanafelt, age 93, passed away early Wednesday morning, February 27, 2002, at the Davis Life Care Center, Pine Bluff.
Mrs. Shanafelt, was born on August 10, 1908, in Salem, Illinois, the daughter of Robert Benton and Eda Strickland Garner. She received her education at Salem graduating from Salem, High School in 1926. She married Estle Shanafelt on June 30, 1940, in Salem, Illinois. He preceded her in death in 1977. Marion worked for the Marion County Farm Bureau in Salem prior to moving to Pine Bluff. She worked as a secretary for the Cotton Belt until her retirement in 1965 after 23 years of employment. Mrs. Shanafelt was a member of the Central Presbyterian Church and the Pilot Club of Pine Bluff, where she is a past President. She was also a member of the Salem Rebekah Lodge where she was the Noble Grand and District President. Mrs.Shanafelt was a member of the canasta players club.
Marion is survived by six (6) step-grandchildren, several step-great-grandchildren, three (3) nephews and one (1) neice.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2002, at 11:00 a.m. at the Chapel of Ralph Robinson and Son Funeral Directors in Pine Bluff. The Reverend Richard Knot of the Central Presbyterian Church will officiate. The visitation will be on March 2, one hour prior to the service.
Burial will be on Tuesday, March 5, 2002, in Salem, Illinois, at the East Lawn Cemetery.
Carl R. Duckworth
December 23, 1938 - February 28, 2002
Carl R. "Duck" Duckworth, 63, of Star City, Arkansas, died Thursday, February 28, 2002, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Duckworth was born December 23, 1938, in Stuttgart, Arkansas to the late Carl Dunbar and Mildred Lucille Neely Duckworth. He was reared and educated in White Hall, where he graduated from White Hall High School. At the age of 18, he joined the United States Navy and served on the U. S. S. Hancock.
Mr. Duckworth was employed by International Paper Company for 37 years before retiring in 1999.
He married Sharon Frazier in 1991 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas.
Mr. Duckworth was an avid duckhunter.
His survivors include his wife, Sharon Frazier Duckworth, three daughters, Roxanne Staton, Amanda Harris, Maranda Rae Duckworth, all of Star City, three grandchildren, two brothers, Butch Duckworth of White Hall, Ruben Duckworth of Sherwood, Arkansas.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 2-4 P.M. at Robinson's.
Funeral Services are scheduled for Monday, March 4, 2002, at 11:00 A.M., Graveside Service at Memorial Park Cemetery

Charles Burt Harris
September 14, 1932 - March 02, 2002
Charles Burt Harris, 69, of White Hall, died Saturday, March 2, 2002 at White Hall Nursing and Rehab Center. He was born September 14, 1932 in Jefferson, Arkansas to Claude E. and Nellie A. Teer Harris.
Mr. Harris was reared and educated in Redfield and graduated from White Hall High School. He joined the Navy in 1951 and served on the USS Toledo during the Korean Conflict.
Mr. Harris married the former LaVerne Worley on December 17, 1982 in White Hall.
He worked for International Paper and then the Pine Bluff Arsenal as a carpenter before retiring in 1985. He served as the President for the Workers Union at the arsenal for 6 years.
Mr. Harris was a member of Bethany Baptist Church.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Claude E. and Nellie A. Teer Harris.
Survivors include his wife, LaVerne Harris of White Hall; stepchildren, James Langrell of Pine Bluff, Marvin Langrell of White Hall; brothers, Claude Harris of Heber Springs, Hershell Harris of Jefferson, Howard Harris of Jacksonville; sisters, Betty Franco of Carson City, Nevada, Sue Martin of El Dorado and three step grandchildren.
The family will receive friends 5 to 7 PM, Monday at Ralph Robinson and Son.
Funeral services are 2:00 PM, Tuesday, March 5, 2002 at Robinson's Chapel with Reverend Tom Hover officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Henry J. Smith
October 14, 1929 - March 05, 2002
Henry J. Smith, 72, of Pine Bluff, died Tuesday, March 5, 2002, at Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock. Mr. Smith was born October 14, 1929, in Cleveland County. He was the son of the late John Henry and Emma Pearl Gray Smith. After graduating from Rison High School, Class of 1948, he moved to Pine Bluff.
Mr. Smith retired from the Cotton Belt Railroad after forty-three years of service in the Freight Car Department.
He was a member of Salem Missionary Baptist Church where he was a Deacon, former Sunday School teacher and member of the Building Committee. He was also a member of White Sulphur Masonic Lodge and enjoyed traveling with the Crown Club of Pine Bluff National Bank. He also enjoyed gardening and woodworking. He coached Eastern Little League and Babe Ruth baseball from 1965 to 1971. In 1968, he coached the State Champion Little League team. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by a twin brother, Baby Boy Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Catherine Ann Ashcraft Smith, whom he married April 4, 1953, in Rison; son, John Wayne Smith, MD, and his wife Laura of Hot Springs; three daughters, Lori Ann Johnson and her husband Stan of Pine Bluff, Lisa Catherine Bradley and her husband Bill of West Monroe, Louisiana, Leslie Carol Williams and her husband Billy of White Hall; one sister, Bernice Varnell and her husband Leon of Pine Bluff; 10 grandchildren, Melanie Smith, Melissa Smith, Drew Smith, Brad Johnson, Taylor Johnson, Natalie Johnson, Rachel Bradley, Rebecca Bradley, Micah Henry Williams and Luke Williams; four nephews; and one niece.
Funeral services will be Friday, March 8, 2002, at 11:00 AM, at Salem Missionary Baptist Church with the Reverend Howard Loetscher officiating. Burial will be in Rowell Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the Fellowship Hall at Salem Missionary Baptist Church from 6 to 8 PM Thursday.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to Salem Missionary Baptist Church Building Fund, 5617 Sulphur Springs Road, Pine Bluff, Arkansas 71603. Funeral arrangements are by Ralph Robinson & Son.
Albert Bruce Crume
September 22, 1911 - March 06, 2002
Bruce Crume, 90, died Wednesday, March 6, 2002, at home in the Lodge at Trinity Village in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. Born Sept. 22, 1911, in Crossett, Arkansas, he was the son of the late Dr. Albert L. Crume and Ermon Wilkes Crume.
He was a 1929 graduate of Little Rock (Central) High School. He attended Little Rock Junior College. He received a law degree from the University of Arkansas School of Law in Little Rock in 1938 and was admitted to the Arkansas Bar, although he never practiced law. He was a staff sergeant in the United States Army during World War II.
Mr. Crume retired as an engineer from Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in 1976, after 39 years of service to that company. He was past Arkansas president and Life Member of Telephone Pioneers of America. He was an active member of Lakeside United Methodist Church. At his church, he was a past member of the Official Board and was a past Sunday School teacher. A lifelong volunteer, he was a member of the Pine Bluff Optimist Club. In 1994, as the first male member of the Jefferson Regional Medical Center Auxiliary, he was named Volunteer of the Year, primarily for his work with Lifeline and in assisting residents of Davis Life Care Center. His survivors include his wife, Sarah Brain Crume, to whom he was married October 22, 1937, in Stuttgart, Arkansas; two daughters, Ermon Crume Vandy of Rockville, Maryland, and Jean Crume of Little Rock, Arkansas; and three grandchildren. He was preceeded in death by his older brother, Leon Wilkes Crume, of Hot Springs.
Funeral services will be Saturday, March 9, 2002, at 1:30 PM in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son with the Reverend Mary Susan Hilliard officiating. Committal services will follow at 3:30 PM Saturday at Roselawn Cemetery
in Little Rock. The family requests that memorials take the form of contributions to Lakeside United Methodist Church, 1500 Olive Street, Pine Bluff, AR 71601, or to the donor's favorite charity.
Shirley Tucker Carroll
December 03, 1923 - March 06, 2002
Shirley Tucker Carroll. 78, of Pine Bluff, died Wednesday, March 6, 2002, at her home. Born in Hamburg, Arkansas, on December 3, 1923, the daughter of the late William Edgar and Myrtle Dona Morman Tucker was reared and received her early education in Hamburg, graduating from high school there.
She resided in Memphis, Tennessee, for four years before moving to Pine Bluff in 1947. She married Henry Edward Carroll in Pine Bluff on December 20, 1952. Mr. Carroll died September 26, 1996.
Mrs. Carroll worked as a dental assistant for Dr. Maurice Willis for 18 years. Joining the St. Louis-Southwestern Railroad as a clerk, she worked for the Cotton Belt for 20 years, retiring in 1986. She was a member of First Baptist Church, the Alethea Club, the American Business Women's Association, and the Brotherhood of Railway Clerks. An artist, she enjoyed painting with oils, china painting, and needlepoint, in addition to traveling and her club activities.
Survivors include her daughter, Shirley Ann Michel of Springfield, Virginia; three grandchildren, Katrina Failla of Rio Rancho, NM, Richard Failla of Shreveport, LA, John Andrew Michel of Springfield, VA; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Saturday, at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son with the Reverend Gordon Topping officiating. Interment will follow in Graceland Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Robinson's Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. They request that memorials take the form of contributions to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, 6501 S. Hazel, Pine Bluff, AR 71603.
