Armando Vega

Armando Vega, 71, of Rogers, Arkansas died Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at Circle of Life at Legacy Village in Bentonville, Arkansas. He was born August 27, 1941 in Maguarichi, Chihuahua Mexico the son of Jesus and Elidia Vega.

He enjoyed playing the guitar, singing music, and watching Spanish soap operas. He was one of Jehovah’s Witnesses for many years. He had lived in the Northwest Arkansas area since 1986 after moving from Juarez, Chihuahua Mexico. He had worked for Tyson for many years.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Gregorio Vega.

Armando is survived by his wife of 53 years of marriage, Maria E. Vega, of the home; two sons, Jesus Manuel Salazar of Mexico and David Vega of Rogers; six daughters, Yolanda Chairez and her husband, Greg, of El Paso, Texas, Lidia Gonzalez and her husband, Jose, of Denver, Colorado, Hilda Vega Zubia of Lowell, Mona Ballesteros and her husband, Jose, of Springdale, Vicky Aguilar of Rogers and Angelica Martinez of Lowell; two brothers, Luis Vega of Mexico and Jesus Manuel Vega of Mexico; 21 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date by the family.

John Barnard

John William Barnard, 71, of Seligman, Missouri died Tuesday, May 21, 2013 at his son’s home in Rogers, Arkansas. He was born December 2, 1941 in Shiloh in Newton County, Arkansas the son of Corby and Leota Reynolds Barnard.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and gardening. He was a lifetime resident of Northwest Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and two sisters.

John is survived by one son; Jason Barnard, of Rogers, two daughters; Jamie Smith of Rogers, Delita Timmons and her husband Doug, of Springdale, three brothers; Edward Barnard and his wife Alta, of Rogers, Reece Barnard and his wife Loretta, of Blue Springs, Missouri, Gene Barnard and his wife Sandra, of Hindsville, eight grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be: Monday, May 27, 2013 from 6pm until 8pm at Epting Funeral Home of Bentonville.

Graveside service will be Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Shiloh Cemetery in Newton County, Arkansas with Bill Williams officiating.

John Hickerson

John J. Hickerson, 92, of Bentonville, Arkansas died Tuesday, May 21, 2013 at Circle of Life Hospice House in Bentonville. He was born July 29, 1920 in Batesville, Arkansas the son of Katie Waddell and Junius Hickerson.

He attended Arkansas College (now Lyons University in Batesville, Arkansas). He attended Ouachita Baptist University. Then, he proudly served his country in the United States Navy during World War II where he obtained an honorable discharge.

He was the City Finance Director for many years and in the early 1960’s. He served as mayor of Port Hueneme, California, where he won the “Citizen of the Year Award.” Also, he served as president of the Lion’s Club in Port Hueneme for many years.

He had lived in the Northwest Arkansas area since October 2003 after moving from California. In 2006, he wrote an historical article about the Hickerson family, who settled in Independence County and received the “Historical Heritage Award” from Independence County, Arkansas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Naoma DeLay Hickerson, in March 1997, and his son-in-law, Dennis Stump in September 2012.

John is survived by one son, Dr. Thomas Hickerson and his wife, Linda, of Damasus, Oregon; two daughters, Lois Weaver of Bentonville, Arkansas and Joanie Stump of Waldorf, Maryland; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be at a later date in California. Memorials may be sent to the donor’s choice.

The family wishes to thank the staff of The Bradford House and Circle of Life Hospice Home at Legacy Village for the care and compassion they gave to John in his last weeks of life.

Louis Guyer

Louis Wayne Guyer, 58, of Fayetteville, Arkansas died Monday, May 20, 2013 at his home. He was born February 10, 1955.

He is survived by many loving relatives and friends including his only child, Michael Guyer, of Raleigh, North Carolina.

Geraldine Doneske

Geraldine F. Doneske, 75, of Bella Vista, Arkansas died Monday, May 20, 2013 at Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville, Arkansas. She was born March 27, 1938 in Chicago, Illinois the daughter of Francis Dejka and Tom Skala.

She was a homemaker. She enjoyed traveling many places, walking, and swimming. She had lived in the Northwest Arkansas area for over 15 years after moving from Wisconsin.

Geraldine is survived by her husband, David Doneske, of the home, whom she married August 17, 1957; one son, David Doneske Jr. and his wife, Gina, of Colorado; one daughter, Linda Rhein and her husband, Tim, of Indiana; two sisters, Lorraine and Sharon, both of Illinois; five grandchildren, Melissa, Erik, Justin, Jillian, and Garrett; and three great-grandchildren, Hailee, Lucas, and Kynadie.

There are no services planned.

Berdena Kohankie

Berdena Kohankie, 71, of Springdale, Arkansas died Monday, May 20, 2013 at her daughter's home. She was born August 19, 1941 in Denver, Colorado the daughter of Virginia and Delbert McLaughlin.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Kohankie.

Survivors include one son, Daniel Fruhjr, of Bella Vista, Arkansas; two daughters, Holly Boyer of Littleton, Colorado and Jennifer Walsh of Rogers, Arkansas; one sister, Karen Baribeau, of Littleton, Colorado; and five grandchildren.

Interment will be at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colorado.

Charles Hartley

Charles Walter Hartley, 81, of Rogers, Arkansas passed away at home surrounded by his family on Saturday, May 18, 2013. He was born April 19, 1932 in Wichita, Kansas to Edith and Edwin Hartley.

He had a close, personal relationship with Jesus that showed through his interactions with all who knew him. He was a member of the Church of God Seventh Day in Springdale.

After graduating from high school, he worked for 19 years for Boeing Aircraft in Wichita. In 1969, he moved to Rogers where he owned and operated the Hartley’s Daylight Donut Shop on Walnut Street for 2 years. Then, he built houses and churches for a lot of local contractors in the area until he retired in 1994. He was a volunteer at the Rogers Recycling Center after he retired.

He enjoyed spending time with his family, bowling, fishing, and traveling. He also enjoyed watching the Razorbacks, westerns, and game shows.

Charles was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandchild, Michael McGarrah; and one son-in-law, Russell Mills.

Charles is survived by his wife of 56 years, Joan Hartley; three daughters and son-in-laws, Connie and James McGarrah of Rogers, Jeanie and Clarence Ullrich of Coweta, Oklahoma, and Patty and Dale Merritt of Hiwasse; five grandchildren, Michelle James, Rick McGarrah and wife, Ashley, Kimberly Gracy and husband, Trevor, Aaron Merritt and wife, Melinda, and Amy Cowan and husband, Troy; seven great-grandchildren, Trinity and Michael James, Kira and Malaki McGarrah, and Hannah, Caleb, and Hadassah Cowan; two sisters, Lilly Howland of Wichita, Kansas and Phyllis Franklin and husband, Bill, of Longmont, Colorado.

Visitation will be Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. until service time at First Baptist Church Lowell.

Celebration of Life Memorial will be at 2:00 Tuesday at First Baptist Church Lowell with Rev. Gary Thomas officiating. Interment to follow at Rogers Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be James McGarrah, Rick McGarrah, Dale Merritt, Aaron Merritt, Troy Cowan, and Clarence Ullrich.
