Ruth Chandler
Ruth Chandler, 84, of Hot Springs, Ark., died Friday, July 3, 2009.
Ruth was born Feb. 18, 1925, in Russellville, Ark., to the late Carl and Maxie (Bowden) Teeter.
She was a bookkeeper for the automobile and retail clothing industries.
She is survived by her sons, Todd Chandler and partner Pedro Mendez, of Dallas, Texas, and Monty Turnbow and wife Cindy, of Longview, Texas; daughter, Danna Castro and husband Rodolfo, of Dallas, Texas; sister, Melva James, of Lubbock, Texas; brother, Carl D. Teeter and wife Mary Ann, of Lubbock, Texas.
Glyn R. Whidden
Glyn R. Whidden, 94, of Hot Springs passed away at his home on July 19, 2009 after a brief illness.
He was born on February 11, 1915 in Arcadia, Florida to William Hardy Whidden and Luella Sheffield Whidden.
He proudly served in the United States Navy for 20 years and was on the USS Nevada at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941.
While on the USS Nevada he not only served in the Pacific but also in the European invasion.
He was a member of the Oaklawn Baptist Church, Elks Club, USS Nevada Association and the Arkansas Pearl Harbor Survivors Association.
Before Glyn got sick he very much loved to travel, especially to the National USS Nevada Annual Reunions.
He also loved gardening and up until ten years ago took pride in his very good size vegetable garden.
Survivors include his wife, Louise of 29 years, step-son Steven Krueger and two step grandchildren, Hilary and Steven.
He is also survived by many nephews and nieces in Florida and a brother-in-law, Homer Christ of Arcadia, Florida.
He was predeceased by seven brothers and sisters.
Honorary pallbearers are Arkansas Pearl Harbor Survivors, Bill Willis, Larry Loe, Terral Young, Dr. Richard Gardial, Dr. Fred Heinemann, Minnie Hansen, Mary Lane and Sanctuary Sunday School Class Oaklawn Baptist Church.
Service will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday at Gross Funeral Home with Bro. Jeff Hill officiating.
Burial will be in Crestview cemetery.
Full Military Honors will be provided by the U.S. Navy.
In lieu of flower memorials may be made to Arkansas Hospice.
Billy W. McArty
GURDON - Billy Wayne McArty, 60, of Gurdon, died Monday, July 20, 2009, at home.
Born May 31, 1949, in Shiloh Community, to William Thomas and Willie Guy Smith McArty, he was a heavy equipment operator and attended Shady Grove Baptist Church, Curtis.
He was predeceased by one sister, Alice Pearl Lookadoo.
Survivors include two children, Marlinda Francis and William Wayne McArty, both of Arkadelphia; one brother, Elmer McArty, of Gurdon; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
The memorial service will be 10 a.m. Thursday in Shady Grove Baptist Church.
Harry K. Van Buskirk
Harry Kevin Van Buskirk, 82, of Hot Springs, died Monday, July 13, 2009, in a local hospital.
Born May 26, 1927, to Harry and Sunshine Dempsy Outlaw, he was retired from the U.S. Army having served during World War II, Korea and Vietnam.
He was predeceased by his wife, Alice Van Buskirk.
The service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Little Rock National cemetery with Captain John Dancer officiating.
Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. Wednesday at Hot Springs Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Salvation Army Youth, P.O. Box 729, Hot Springs, AR.
Glenward L. Fair
Glenward Lee Fair, 72, of Hot Springs, died Saturday, July 4, 2009, at a local hospital.
Born March 18, 1937, in Henning, Tenn., to Malcolm and Maggie Annie Mae Ballard Fair, he was a U.S. Navy veteran and member of First Christian Church.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy Fair, of Hot Springs; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Timothy Fair, of California, and Roger D. and Janet Fair and Kevin and Jalen Fair, all of Idaho; one daughter and son-in-law, Glenda and Matthew Proctor, of North Carolina; one brother, Donald Fair, of Florida; 12 grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
Arrangements are by Hot Springs Funeral Home.
Martha Lambert
AMITY - Martha Lambert, 86, of Amity, died Sunday, July 12, 2009.
Born Dec. 27, 1922, near Amity, to Michael and Hattie Rowan Stroope, she was a homemaker and member of Shiloh Church of Christ.
She was predeceased by her husband, James Lambert; one son, Roger L. Lambert; and one great-grandson, Kaul W. Lambert.
Survivors include two sons and three daughters-in-law, William and Betty Lambert, of Amity, John and Brenda Lambert, of Point Cedar, and Peggy Lambert, of Glenwood; one sister, Lucy Bratton, of Hot Springs; six grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces; and nephews.
Henrietta Rice
Henrietta Rice, 68, of Hot Springs, died Friday, July 10, 2009, in a local hospital.
Born Feb. 14, 1941, in Pine Bluff, to Henry and Cynthia Griffin Eason, she was a member of Eureka Baptist Church where she served on the pastor’s staff, a retired CNA with Hot Springs Rehabilitation Center, and a bus monitor for First Step School.
She was predeceased by two brothers, Fred Ellison and Bennie Hudson; five sisters, Ollie Washington, Robertzine Pattillo, Arline Pattillo, Willie Mae Lane and Pearlean Hicks; and one grandson, Javor Ellis.
Nettie Beene
ARKADELPHIA - Nettie Beene, 93, of Arkadelphia, died Tuesday, June 23, 2009, in Petaluma, Calif.
Born Sept. 8, 1915, near Delight, to E.L. and Dora Frazier Presley, she was a member of First United Methodist Church, Arkadelphia, a beautician, owned and instructed in a beauty school and college and owned a beauty salon and Merle Norman cosmetics studio in Arkadelphia.
She was predeceased by her husband, Thurman S. Beene.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Mary Beene, of California, and one grandchild, Allison Beene.
Lillian L. Teal
JESSIEVILLE - The service for Lillian Lorene Teal, 75, of Jessieville, who died Thursday, May 28, 2009, will be 2 p.m. today in Caruth Village Funeral Home with Brother Glen Davis officiating.
Pallbearers will be Ron Coleman, Roger Castleberry, Larry Robertson, Bud James, Danny Ellison and Phillip Whichard.
Honorary pallbearers are Dereck Loy, the doctors of Hollywood Medical Clinic and the staff of Ron Coleman Mining.
Burial will be in Shiloh cemetery, Jessieville.
