Longtime resident of Fairfield Bay goes to be with the Lord.
Rose (Kelley) Strudle, a long time resident of Indian Rock Village, died Wednesday September 17, 2008 just 16 days short of her 100th birthday. She was born in Colorado on October 3, 1908.
Meeting at Kellogg's in Omaha, Nebraska where they were both employed, Rose married
Emil Strudle on May 2, 1953. Rose retired from Kellogg's after 40 years in quality control. She and Emil then moved to Fairfield Bay in 1975 where they purchased a home. Due to Emil's health in 1988, they moved into Indian Rock Village where Emil died in January of 1998. Rose continued to live at Indian Rock Village eventually in the Assisted Living.
Rose loved playing cards especially pinochle and in her earlier years in Omaha, she bowled on several leagues and won many trophies for her bowling. She was a long time member of the United Methodist Church in Fairfield Bay, the United Methodist Women, and a member of the VFW and American Legion. She enjoyed crocheting and left many beautiful items to her family and friends.
She is survived by two sisters-in-law, Clem Erickson of Eau Claire, WI and Betty Strudle of Woodbury, MN; her God-daughter/niece Vicki (Bob) Bennett of Eau Claire, WI and numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her special friend and companion Shirley (Steve) Sutay of Fairfield Bay and her many friends from church and Indian Rock Village.
Rose was a special person always wearing a lovely smile, loving life and considering every day a gift.
Jack B. Nelson

Jack B. Nelson, 81, passed away Wednesday August 20, 2008. He was born July 11, 1927 in Mineral Wells, TX. He served in the Navy during World War II, retiring after 25 years with the Federal Civil Service. Upon retiring to Fairfield Bay in 1977, he worked as a real estate agent for 25 years. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Fairfield Bay Shriner Club, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, and also a Mason.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Martha Nelson, daughter Vicki Turner of Conway, and grand-daughter Jacki Turner of Maumelle.
A memorial Service was held Saturday, August 23 at the United Methodist church in Fairfield Bay, AR.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Fairfield Bay United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 1399 Fairfield Bay, AR 72088.
Phillip Peter Lucarini

Phillip Peter Lucarini was born to the parents of Peter N. and Helen Fodaroni Lucarini on December 16, 1935 in Chicago, Ill. and died on August 18, 2008 at Southridge Village Nursing and Rehab in Heber Springs, AR. He was a proof reader for Black Dot Advertising Inc. He was a resident of Fairfield Bay for the past ten years and a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Norwood Park in Chicago, Ill. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Nancy Lucarinan, one son Peter Howard Lucarini, of Round Lakes, Ill., one daughter Melissa Banas of Lombard, Ill., one sister Elaine Lucarini- Lehmann of Eureka Springs, AR. and five grandchildren. The family request memorial donations to be made to the Fairfield Bay EMT Unit.
A Memorial Service will be at a later date at the Peace Lutheran Church in Fairfield Bay. Family Funeral Service of 106 South 4th Street Heber Springs in charge of the arrangements.
Russell Frederick Shalk, Sr.

Russell Frederick Schalk, Sr., age 89, of Fairfield Bay, Arkansas, passed away Friday, August 1, 2008, at his home. Born in Scranton, Pennsylvania, on November 4, 1918, he was the son of the late Frederick R. and Dorothy (Ransom) Schalk.
Mr. Schalk retired as a manager for Allied Chemical Corporation. He moved to Fairfield Bay in 1982 and served as maintenance engineer for the Fairfield Bay Conference Center. Mr. Schalk was a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Army. For 13 years he served as Cub Master of Cub Scouts Den 7 in Plattsmouth, Nebraska. Mr. Schalk's religious belief was of the Lutheran faith.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia Schalk of Fairfield Bay; three children, Russell Schalk, Jr. and wife, Jean, of Stillwater, Minnesota, Sharon Shafer of Fairfield Bay; and Gregory Schalk and wife, Deborah, of Beebe; eight grandchildren, Skip Schalk and wife, Christal, of Paragould,
Jesse Hiller of Denver, Colorado, Jennifer Kifferly and husband, Bill, of Hinesville, Georgia, Ryan Schalk of Denver, Colorado, Kelly Schalk of Beebe, Aaron Schalk and wife, Mandy, of St. Paul, Minnesota; Kieth Schalk and wife, Kim, of Beebe; and Chris Schalk of Cabot; and seven great grandchildren, Jessica Kifferly, Brock Kifferly, Elizabeth Schalk, Aubrey Schalk, Peyton Schalk, Gavin Schalk, and Isaac Schalk.
Mr. Schalk is also survived by other relatives and his many friends.
Visitation was held from 12:00-2:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 5, 2008, at the Fairfield Bay Baptist Church with funeral services at 2:30 p.m. officiated by Bro. Michael 'Skip' Schalk.
Memorials may be made to the Van Buren County Hospice.

Edward Walter Ivanor

Edward Walter Ivanor, age 86, of Fairfield Bay, Arkansas, passed away Friday, August 1, 2008, at the Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock. Born in Chicago, Illinois, on October 22, 1921, he was the son of the late Phillip and Julia Ivanor.
Mr. Ivanor was a retired comptroller for the Estee Bedding Company. He served in the Army Air Corps and was a member of American Legion Post 333. Mr. Ivanor was owner of the Wild Boar Restaurant at Fairfield Bay and was a member of the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church at Fairfield Bay.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sharlot Ivanor, who passed away in 1993.
Mr. Ivanor was also preceded in death by his parents and one grandson, Mark Schultz.
He is survived by one son, Edward Iwanowski of Florida; two daughters, Deb Ivanor and Linda Schultz, both of Fairfield Bay; two grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Mr. Ivanor is also survived by other relatives and his many friends.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 6, at 1:00 p.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church with funeral mass beginning at 1:30 p.m. officiated by Fr. Bill Elser. Interment will be held in the Maryhill cemetery at Niles, Illinois.

Robert Victor Meller passed away at his home in Greers Ferry, AR. on Monday July 28, 2008. He was born in Jefferson City, Missouri on July 17, 1931 to the parents of Victor and Clair Rotter Meller. He has been a resident of Greers Ferry, AR. for the past 30 years and he was a member of the St. Francis Catholic Church. He was a member of the church choir, Knights of Columbus and a retired restaurant manager. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and taking ware of his yard and playing the piano. He was a veteran of the United States Navy. He is preceded in death by his parents Victor and Clara Meller. He is survived by his wife Ruby Eileen Meller, one son Michael Meller of Greers Ferry, AR., one daughter Clara LeBroke of West Point, AR., three grandsons David Ramsey, Heber Springs, AR., Randy Wright Point, AR., Christipher Meller, Bloomington, IL, two granddaughters Laura Meller Bloomington IL., Tracy LeBroke West Point, AR. and one great grandson Clay Paul Ramsey besides other relatives and many friends. Visitation was held at the St. Francis Catholic Church in Fairfield Bay, AR., Friday August 1, 2008 at 10 am with the Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 10:30 am and a Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 am. Shirley Ann Bogatz from Fairfield Bay AR left this world on July 26th in the arms of the angels. She was born Sept. 5th 1934 in Gretna NE to Raymond and Marie Lenz. She was the oldest of six children. She married
John Bogatz on Nov. 12, 1955. From their union they were blessed with six children, 25 grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren. She was a homemaker, and a bookkeeper for many years. After moving to Arkansas she worked for Triplett Hearing Center. She is survived by her husband John Bogatz, her children Sherri (Randy) Helman David City NE, Terri Carlton- Santa Barbara CA, Larry (Diana) Bogatz-Goleta CA, Jerry (Linda) Bogatz-Valley NE, Mari (Jim) Haney-Hacienda Heights CA. She is joined in her heavenly home by her parents Raymond and Marie, her son Gary, her brother Pete, her granddaughter Gabrielle and many other loved ones.

Eleanor Martha Webster, 74, of Shirley, Arkansas passed away suddenly at Baptist Heart Hospital in Little Rock, Arkansas on Friday, July 18, 2008.
Eleanor was born July 12, 1934 in Westfield, New Jersey to Henry Schroeder and Ella Rohringer Schroeder.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, William Webster and their son, Douglas C. Webster.
She is survived by four sons, Timothy L. Webster and his wife, Dale A. Webster of Ruckersville, Virginia, Michael J. Webster and his wife, Kathleen F. Clarke of Lisbon, Ohio, Kenneth L. Webster of Ijamsville, Maryland, Jeffrey A. Webster of Jersey City, New Jersey; one daughter, Suzzane D.L. Pollina and her husband, John S. Pollina of Ruckersville, Virginia; eight grandchildren, Jake and Jessica Webster, John Douglas, Zachary William and Anthony Pollina, Christopher Webster, James and Nathaniel Webster; a cousin, Lorraine Flanagan of Port Orange, Florida; two sisters-in-laws, Margaret Laubisch of Boulder, Colorado and Alice Schroeder of Smyrna, Delaware; and many other family members and friends.
She cherished her family including her many pets. No stray was ever turned away from her door. She will be dearly missed and her memory forever cherished.
Memorial services will be held for both Eleanor and William (Bill) Webster at 1:00 P.M. Friday, August 8, 2008 at St. Francis Episcopal Church, 20 Woodland Group, Heber Springs, Arkansas.

Arthur (Fuzzy) Isaac Archer 81, of Dennard, AR died Monday, July 14, 2008 at his home. He was born Oct. 25, 1926 to the late Will and Mae Rumley Archer and lived at Dennard most of his life. He served in the US Navy during WWII.
He was preceded in death by is wife Jewell Smith Archer, two brothers Henry Archer and Hobart Archer and sisters Dora Jordan, Jewell Jolly and Zedia Jolly.
Survivors include step-son Robert Lee Smith of Marshall, brothers Thomas Archer of Laguna Hills, CA and Garner Archer of Gait, CA, sisters Belle Cotton of Galt, CA, Doris Lee Williams of Galt CA, and Willie Mae Hinchey of Dennard, AR, and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be 10:00 am Wed., July 16, 2008 at the Dennard Community Church at Dennard with burial in the Dennard cemetery with Tom Jolly officiating.

Leslie Francis Holdman

Leslie Francis Holdman, age 83, of Fairfield Bay, Arkansas, passed away Tuesday, June 3, 2008, at his home. Born in Bonne Terre, Missouri, on September 24, 1924, He was the son of the late Oran Jerome and Naomi (Daugherty) Holdman. Mr. Holdman graduated from Missouri School of Mines with a degree in Electrical Engineering, and served a full career for Schlumberger Oil Company. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Navy, and he was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Mr. Holdman was a member of the Fairfield Bay Rotary Club, the Lions Club, the Masonic Samaritan Lodge #424 in Bonne Terre, Missouri, and the Indian Rock Village Auxiliary. He enjoyed golf and music.
Mr. Holdman was a member of the Presbyterian Kirk of the Hills at Fairfield Bay. Mr. Holdman is survived by his wife, Vernalese (Vernie) Holdman of Fairfield Bay; two sons, David Holdman (Ahn), of Texas, and PaulCameron (Jan), of North Carolina; three daughters, Paula Moore (Don), of Tennessee, Jan Crocker (Bob) of Texas, and Cheri Son (Cody) of Oklahoma; one stepdaughter, Alesa Carlton (John), of Prim, AR; two brothers, Stan Holdman (Bobbie) of Florida, and Ken Holdman of California; 9 grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and 6 step-great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 7, at 11 a.m. in the Presbyterian Kirk of the Hills. Stevenson Rowley Miller

Stevenson Rowley Miller left this world on June 3, 2008 after a long and courageous battle with prostate cancer. Steve was born in Minneapolis, MN on March 22, 1948 to Susan and Rowley Miller. Steve grew up in Minnesota attending St. James Military School and graduated St. John's Military Academy in 1966, where he was a top hockey and tennis player. He attended the University of Minnesota, then ventured to the Yukon and Alaska becoming a hunting and fishing guide. Steve moved back to Minnesota, started his own company, Millstone Enterprises that sponsored motocross and powerboat racing. He raced motocross, was the crew chief in Formula One powerboat racing, crewed for the Formula One racecar circuit, and was the crew chief for the SCCA ice racing circuit. During this time, he met and married
his wife of 35 years, Suzie Wagner. Steve and Suzie spent time in Minnesota and on Cayman Brac Island. They moved to Greer's Ferry Lake near Clinton, Arkansas where their first son, Nick, was born in 1983. They moved back to Minnesota where their second son, CW, was born in 1985. Steve continued his adventures in Alaska and in the mid 1980's he became the owner and the captain of the commercial fishing boat F/V Gypsy out of Homer, then Kodiak, Alaska. He continued his commercial fishing through 2007. When his sons became interested in BMX racing in 1992, he started and sponsored Millstone BMX Racing Team, a national team of 25 riders who traveled around the country together to compete in local and national races. In 1995, Steve took his oldest son, Nick, to Alaska to crew on his boat. In 1996 he took CW to Alaska to crew on the boat. The following year the boys became the entire crew. They continued to crew every summer with Steve. Steve and his family moved to Bigfork, MT in 1996 and built a log home on Yellow Bay in 1998. Steve was preceded in death by his son CW and his parents. He is survived by his wife Suzie and his son Nick at the family home in Yellow Bay, his sisters Barby Ryan of Billings, MT and her family, Charlotte Forsythe of Minneapolis, MN and her family, Margaret Ward of Wilsall, MT and her family, and by his extended family and many friends. A unique independent free spirit, Steve was intellectually brilliant, a great problem solver, and could fix anything. He was adventurous, friendly, honest, kind hearted, fun loving and generous. Steve was an outstanding, delightful and devoted husband, father, and friend. He loved spending his time with his family and his many friends. A gathering of family and friends and those who knew Steve will be held at the Miller home: 18649 East Lakeshore, Bigfork, MT, on Saturday June 28, 2008 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. (ceremony at 3 p.m.). Richard Ivan Come, age 68, of Fairfield Bay, Arkansas, passed away Sunday, May 11, 2008, at his home. Born in North Norwich, New York, on December 23, 1939, he was the son of the late Bert Lewis and Gladys Mae (Mickle) Come.
A resident of Fairfield Bay for the past three years, Mr. Come was a retired carpenter. He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; one brother, David Come; and one sister, Linda Come.
Survivors include his sister-in-law, Susan Come of Fairfield Bay; one sister, Ester Come of Missouri; one nephew, David Come; one niece, Lisa Rousey and husband James; and one great nephew, Little James Rousey, all of Florida.

Marie Chase

Marie Chase, 86, of Fairfield Bay, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and lifelong friend to many passed away Friday May 2, 2008 at Ozark Health Nursing Home, in Clinton, Ark. Marie was born in Sheldon, Iowa in 1921. She lived 38 years of her married
life in the Wichita, Kansas area. In 1984 she settled in Fairfield Bay, Ark., where she loved the quiet community and beautiful countryside.
Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Harry (Jack) Chase; daughter Jackie Lynn Chase; daughter Vicky Jan and husband David J. Hawes; son Scott Jeffrey Chase and wife Patty; seven grandchildren, Carrie Lynn and husband Paul Lawson, Katherine Chase Garvey, Allie Chase Garvey, Dena LeAnn and husband Blair Reuther, Katie Marie Chase, and Shawna JaeChase; six great-grandchildren, Jack Chase Lawson, Brennan Maxwell Lawson, Grant Christopher Lawson, Kelsi Nicole Reuther, Taylor Megan Reuther, and Sydney Leigh Reuther.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters, and one grandson, J. Brennan Garvey.
Her funeral will be at United Methodist Church, 765 Dave Creek Parkway, Fairfield Bay, Ark., Wednesday, May 7, 2008 at 1:00 P.M. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the church.
Patricia Ann Hemingway

Patricia Ann Hemingway (Gram), 73, of Fairfield Bay, Arkansas, went home to be with her Lord on Thursday, May 1, 2008, at Baptist Hospital in Little Rock. She was born June 1, 1934, in Bangor, Maine, to the late Olive and Frank Ellis. She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 43 years, Harold Graham Hemingway. She is survived by her daughter, Laura Lee Deaton and husband Jeff of Greers Ferry; grandson, Stephen Graham Owen and wife Rachael of Cabot; and great-grandson, Braylon Graham Owen, also of Cabot.
Pat lived and worked as a RN in New York for 25 years before moving to Heber Springs with her husband as he worked for Stephen's Inc. in Little Rock. She lovingly dedicated her life to all her family and friends. Many memorable years were later spent on their beautiful Ranch in Judsonia. For the last several years she has happily lived at Indian Rock Village of Fairfield Bay where she has made many dear friends and enjoyed various activities with them. Gram led a very active life despite the courageous battle she fought against Rheumatoid Arthritis for the past 20 years. She never gave in and always gave her all to anyone around her. Pat was also an active member of the Kirk of the Hills Presbyterian Church.
Funeral services will be Saturday, May 10, 2008, 2 p.m. at the Kirk of the Hills Presbyterian Church (250 Dave Creek Parkway, Fairfield Bay, Arkansas 72088) with burial services immediately following at Mt. Carmel cemetery in Cabot (Intersection of Hwy. 89 and 321 in Cabot). Gram will be dearly missed by her loving daughter Laura, devoted grandson Stephen, and all who knew her. 'Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.'

Iola C. Swanson

Iola C. Swanson, 96, died at her home in Independence Village, Peoria IL. April 26, 2008. Born Dec. 11, 1911 in Peoria County, IL to Stewart and Jennie Bruniga McMeen, she married
Frans J. Swanson Sept. 13, 1942. He died May 30, 1996.
She was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, her parents, four sisters and four brothers.
Surviving are her daughters Sonja Swanson of Fairfield Bay, Ar., grandson Emilio Romero and wife Sara of Albuqueque, N.M., brother Harley McMeen and sister Marge McBroom, both of Hanna City, IL, and many nieces and nephews.
She was self employed as a beautician before marriage and later worked 11 years for JC Penney and Bergner's Department Store. In October 1973 she and her husband retired to Fairfield Bay Arkansas where she became involved in several activities. She returned to Peoria 5 Months adter her husbands death. She was a member of East Peoria, Mossville and Fairfield Bay Methodist churches.
Her body was donated to medical science.
