Evelyn Darlene Treat Kimble, 88, of Kingston, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2005, in Huntsville. She was born Oct. 19, 1916, in Pawnee, Okla., to Roy and Effie Mae (Pollard) Alexander. She was a retired bookkeeper for Tyson Foods, Inc. and George's. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Lowell, the Northwest Medical Center Auxiliary, and TOPS. Funeral services were held in the Chapel of Nelson-Berna Funeral Home in Fayetteville. Rev. Gary Thomas officiated. Burial followed in the Elm Springs cemetery in Elm Springs.

Viola Johnson

Viola Johnson, 73, of Springdale, formerly of Huntsville, died Oct. 4, 2005, at the Northwest Medical Center of Washington County in Springdale. She was born Oct. 6, 1931, at Loy, Ark., the daughter of Tommy and Viola Burgess Reynolds. She was a homemaker, a caregiver and of the Pentecostal faith. She was preceded in death by one son, Randy Lynn Johnson; and one daughter, Gloria Jean Bilderback. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Oct. 11, in the chapel of Brashears Funeral Home in Huntsville with Rev. Layton Porter officiating. Interment was held in the Venus cemetery under the direction of Brashears Funeral Home of Huntsville.

Alma Fern Stout, 71, of Huntsville, died Oct. 3, 2005, at Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville. She was born June 24, 1934, at War Eagle to James Clarence and Frances Henson Wood. She was owner and operator of Fern's Notary and Tax Service. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Troy Garner, five brothers and one sister. Graveside services were held Friday, Oct. 7, 2005, at Friendship cemetery. Rev. Bill Williams officiated.

Harold Dodson

Harold James Dodson, age 87, passed away Sunday, Oct. 2, 2005, at his home in Denison, Texas, surrounded by family. Dodson owned a home in Madison County. Dodson was born April 21, 1918, in Sherman, Texas, to Ed and Norma (Bowman) Dodson. Harold married Elsie Thomas on May 14, 1938, in Durant, Okla., He later married Patsy Chandler on Oct. 22, 1982, in Denison, Texas. Harold served proudly in the Navy on the USS Berrein, where he received a Purple Heart. Graveside service was held Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2005, at Cedarlawn Memorial Park in Sherman with Pastor Larry Goodwin officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Fisher Funeral Home, located at 604 West Main in Denison, Texas.

Sergeant Major Richard Lee Simmons

Sergeant Major Richard Lee Simmons, (U.S.M.C. Retired), 83, of Aurora, died Jan. 1, 2006, at his home. He was born Jan. 13, 1922, at Humboldt, Iowa, the son of Lee R. and Jessie E. Houge Simmons. He had retired from the United States Marine Corps after more than 32 years of service. He was a veteran of World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He attended Calvary Baptist Church in Huntsville and was a member of Hayes-Smith Post #137, American Legion, Post #10, 021, Veterans of Foreign Wars at Huntsville, the Marine Corps League and the Non-commissioned Officers Association. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 7, in the chapel of Brashears Funeral Home with Rev. Roy Cain and Rev. Jim Hepler officiating. Interment will be in the Aurora cemetery with full military honors under the direction of Brashears Funeral home of Huntsville.

Melvin James Hall

Melvin James Hall, 73, of Fayetteville, died Sunday, Jan. 1, 2006, at his home. He was born Sept. 21, 1932, in Madison County, the son of Jim and Ada Ball Hall. He was retired from Tyson Foods and a tremendous gardener. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 5, at Moore's Chapel. The Rev. Dean Baker will be officiating. Burial will be in the Patrick cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 4, at Moore's Chapel.

Joe Smith Sanders

Joe Smith Sanders, 93, of Hindsville, died Dec. 31, 2005, at his home. He was born Oct. 22, 1912, at Sipio, Okla, the son of Albert Emanuel and Edna Viola Sanders. He had retired from Campbell Soup Company in Fayetteville and enjoyed farming and growing and sharing his garden. He was a member and was a 32 degree Scottish Rite Mason. He was preceded in death by his wife, (Carla) Buchanan Sanders on Feb. 2, 1984, and by two sons, Elvis Sanders and Billy Sanders. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan. 3, in the chapel of Brashears Funeral Home with Rev. Eddie Samuels and Rev. John Martin officiating. Private interment was held in the Buckeye cemetery under the direction of Brashears Funeral Home of Huntsville.

Thomas Roy Caler

Thomas Roy Caler, 88, of the Pinnacle Community near Elkins, died Dec. 31, 2005, at his home. He was born Oct. 8, 1917, at Elkins, the son of James Thomas and Mary Mae Davenport Caler. He has retired from Shakespeare in Fayetteville and was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Army. He was a non-denominational Christian and was preceded in death by his wife, Lexie Marie Atha Caler on May 16, 2000. He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Belva Nancy Caler; four brothers, Willie Caler, Clyde Caler, Rupert Caler and Connie Caler, and by one granddaughter, Karen Caler. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 4, in the chapel of Brashears Funeral Home with Rev. Calvin Stewart and Rev. Allan Tomlinson officiating. Interment will be in the Pinnacle cemetery under the direction of Brashears Funeral Home of Huntsville.

Ola Mae Whittaker, 96, of Kingston, died Dec. 29, 2005, at Springdale. She was born July 8, 1909, at Powell, Okla., the daughter of John Richard and Gertrude Tice Latham. She was a homemaker and a member of Kingston Assembly of God Church. She was the widow of Slater Donald Whittaker who preceded her in death on Nov. 5, 1991. She was also preceded in death by one grandson, William Thomas Whittaker and one granddaughter, Desiree Whittaker. Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 31, at the Kingston Assembly of God Church with Rev. Willie Foster officiating. Interment was held in the Liberty cemetery under the direction of Brashears Funeral Home of Huntsville.

Margie L. Starnes, 72, of Hindsville, died Dec. 25, 2005, at the Maple at Har-Ber Meadows in Springdale. She was born Aug.17, 1933, at Clifty, the daughter of Luther William and Stella Hawkins Keeling. She had retired as the administrative secretary for the Madison County Judge. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Hindsville and Huntsville Chapter #487, The Order of the Eastern Star. She was the widow of Ray Starnes who preceded her in death on March 5, 2004. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 28, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Brashears Funeral Home with Rev. Leslie Elem officiating. Interment will be in the Buckeye cemetery under the direction of Brashears Funeral Home of Huntsville.

Shirley Ann Fisk, 52, of Eureka Springs, died Dec. 25, 2005, at the Eureka Springs Hospital. She was born Feb. 14, 1953, at Baton Rouge, La., the daughter of Clayton Joseph 'Clay' and Margie Robertson Daigre. She was a homemaker and a member of the White Rock Church of God in Fayetteville. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, C.J. Daigre. Funeral services were held Thursday, Dec. 29, in the chapel of Brashears Funeral Home with Rev. H. M. Shipp officiating. Interment was held in the Clifty cemetery under the direction of Brashears Funeral Home of Huntsville.

Lena Elizabeth (Lizzie) Fields, 93, a life-long resident of Crosses, passed away at Fayetteville City Nursing Home on Dec. 24, 2005. Born April 27, 1912, at Pinnacle Mountain near Crosses, the daughter of Roy and Vassie (Whitmire) Couch. She was a devoted wife and mother and a homemaker. She and her husband were one of the founders of the Crosses Coummity Church established in 1955 and avid member of the Southern Gospel Singing Conventions. She was a member of the Harris Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elsworth Fields, and a daughter Lola Hankins. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, at 10 a.m. at Moores Chapel with Rev. David Masburn and the Rev. Jasper Hankins officiating. Burial will be in the Walnut Grove cemetery near Crosses.

She was born May 17, 1934, at Spring Valley, the daugter of Louie Bernard and Inez Vetilla Youngman Hansen. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, James Edward Hansen. Born Feb. 21, 1919, in Hanson, Okla., she was the daughter of Tandy Lucius Randolph and Lulu Maude Monroe Randolph. Esther Clark had lived most of her life in the Decatur area. She was a homemaker and worked for Peterson's Industries. Esther loved gardening. Funeral services were held Wednesday, Dec. 28, at Decatur Assembly of God Church with Pastor Kirk Anderson officiating. Burial will follow in Decatur cemetery. She was a homemaker and a member of Witter church. She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Archie Willard Ogden on Nov. 19, 2003. She was also preceded in death by one son, Scryls Dewey Ogden on May 13, 1993 and by one brother, A L Burgess. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Dec. 27, in the chapel of Brashears Funeral Home with Rev. Butch Bolinger officiating. Interment was held in the Ogden cemetery under the direction of Brashears Funeral Home of Huntsville.

She was born Aug. 27, 1938, at Clifty, the daughter of Billie and Wanda Yeager Pitts. She was a former employee of Cargill and the widow of Clarence Franklin 'Frank' White who preceded her in death on Sept. 27, 2001. She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Martha Lee Acuff on Jan. 18, 2005, and by one granddaughter, Jolynn Martin on Oct. 9, 2001.

He was owner and operator of Bob Sweetser Cement Construction Company and attended St. Paul Full Gospel Church. A memorial service was held Tuesday, Dec. 27, at Moore's Chapel with Rev. Doyle Baker and Rev. Dean Baker.

James A. Clark

James A. Clark, 94, of Elkins, passed away Monday, Dec. 19, 2005, at his home. He was born Aug. 21, 1911, at Patrick, the son of Albert Richard and Martha Elizabeth Reed Clark. He was preceded in death by his wife, Macel VanBrunt Clark on May 12, 2001. They were married Sept. 29, 1934. He was also preceded in death by his parents, his two brothers and six sisters and two great-grandsons. Services were held Thursday Dec. 22, at the Tuttle Church of Christ. Burial was in the Mount Olive cemetery, under the direction of Moore's Chapel.

She attended the University of Arkansas.She is survived by her son Fines Martin and wife Anne; grandchildren Laura Dobson and husband Andy, Jeff Martin and wife Gaylyon and Tim Martin; great-grandchildren, Kelley, Chris, Courtney and Jon Dobson; and adopted granddaughter Juanita Stinson. Funeral services were held Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2005, in the Rosewood Mausoleum.
