Rex Russell Northcutt, 86, passed away December 8, 2008, with his family by his side. Mr. Northcutt was a rice, wheat and soybean farmer for many years in the Carlisle area of Lonoke County.
Rex Northcutt was born in the small community of Wattensaw in Lonoke County, Ark., to Albert and Mildred Giddens Northcutt on May 14, 1922. He had two brothers, Al & Willard, and one sister, Maycel, who are all deceased. Rex was baptized into the fellowship of Hebron Methodist Church at the early age of 13. He attended and grew up in his home church until he moved close to Carlisle where he attended Chambers Baptist Church. There he met and married , after five years of courtship, Mildred Rettig to whom he was married 63 1/2 years. They have two daughters: Deborah Northcutt Humway (Ron) and Deloris Northcutt Madar (Johnnie), and they both have two sons. Rex is also survived by four great grandchildren.
Rex, Mildred and their children attended Chambers Baptist Church. After it dissolved, they moved their memberships to First Baptist Church in Carlisle until the Lord separated them by Rex’s new life in heaven.
Rex was always happy in the promise of Gods word that says, “The Lord shall return” and always believed that maybe, just maybe, the prairie might bloom again. Rex led a simple life and his beliefs were simple. He wanted a short service and not a long eulogy. He wanted to be known as a “servant in the house of God” instead of a seat with the high and mighty.
Rex said he and Mildred had an agreement that whoever crossed Jordan River first would make a sign in the sand and walk slowly. Then when the other one crossed, they would go see Jesus hand in hand.
The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Thursday, December 11, 2008, at Carlisle First Baptist Church with interment in Carlisle cemetery. Arrangements were by Boyd Funeral Home, Lonoke.
