Carla Jo Ruffin
Carla Jo Ruffin, 58, of Hazen, died Tuesday, August 22, 2006, after a long battle with cancer. She was diagnosed in the spring of 2001. Carla will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.
She is survived by her husband, Larry Ruffin; two sons, Chad (Andrea) Seidenschwarz of Mobile, Alabama, and Victor (Sara) Seidenschwarz of Carlisle; two daughters, Ashley (Russel) Howard of Bradford, Arkansas, and Vicki Hambrick of Searcy; brother, Dwight (Pat) Minton of Atlanta, Georgia; and six grandchildren. Carla was preceded in death by her parents, Roe and Willie Pearl Minton, and son-in-law, Michael Hambrick.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 25, 2006, at the Calvary Baptist Church in Hazen by Ralph Ruffin III and Wayne Snider. Burial was in the Center Point cemetery. The pallbearers were Chad Seidenschwartz, Victor Seidenschwarts, Dwight Minton, Jon Minton, Russell Howard and Wayne Snowden. Honorary pallbearers were her grandsons Calvin (Cal) Howard Tristan Seidenschwartz, Ian Seidenschwartz, Noah Seidenschwartz, Keaton Hambrick, Landon Hambrick and J.C. Elliott and Charles Stock.
Arrangements were by Westbrook Funeral Home in Hazen.
Everett Loyde Hall
Everett Loyde Hall, 86, of Hot Springs, died August 22, 2006.
Everett was born in Hazen, the son of Homer and Ruby Hall. He graduated from Hazen High School, attended business school and then spent 11 years in the Navy during and after World War II. Six years of that time was in the South Pacific. After returning from the service, he came back to his hometown of Hazen where he developed his rice farm. Upon retirement from farming, he became an avid golfer. Everett was an honest, humble man who was truly devoted to his entire family.
He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Mavis Ridout Hall; son, Everett (Buddy) Hall and wife, Vicki, of Little Rock; daughter, Diane Elizabeth Hall Ray and husband, John, of Hot Springs; sister, Geraldine Hall Booe of Hazen; sister-in-law, Kathleen Hall of Hazen; four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, August 25, 2006, at the First United Methodist Church in Hazen by Rev. George Rook of Stuttgart. Interment was be in the Hazen cemetery. Pallbearers were Danny Rieke, Brad Caviness, Randy Clayton, Eddie Beam, Derek Bohanan, Bobby Rogers, and Billy Strain.
Arrangements were by Westbrook Funeral Home in Hazen. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church in Hazen.
Shawn Michelle Garrison Burrows
September 24, 1970 - August 14, 2012
Shawn Michelle Garrison Burrows, age 41 of North Little Rock, passed away Tuesday, August 14, 2012. She was born September 24, 1970 in Danville, Arkansas. She was a loving caregiver.
She is survived by her parents Raymond and Betty Knife, one brother Leonard Ogden and his wife Tamara, ones step-brother Shelby Knife and his wife Holley, a uncle James McDonald and his wife Marilyn, an aunt Pat Justice, a special cousin Teresa Wiley, two nephews, two nieces, one great-nephew and numerous other family and friends.

Albert Craig Bell
Albert Craig Bell, resident of Searcy, died Tuesday, August 22, 2006, at the age of 45. He was born March 22, 1961, in Stuttgart, the son of Walter and Lela Smith Bell. Raised in Des Arc, Craig discovered early in life that God had given him the gift of music. He was playing the piano at age 6 and performed on Channel 4 at age 9. Starting in the ’60s, he played for several churches beginning with Lakeside Missionary Baptist Church. He also became the organist/pianist of choice for many local vocal artists, such as Mickey Raper and Beth Pearson of Des Arc. Beth and Craig teamed up to win numerous awards, such as the Imperial Miss Empress Talent Competition at Russellville. They then played on The Louisiana Hayride from 1978 to 1981, where he also played for Lisa Blackburn of West Memphis. Their travels included the performance at the Mid-South Fair.
Over the years Craig was in demand for many local events and celebrations. He played at events for many dignitaries including Governors and Presidential candidates. Craig has been the music minister at First Presbyterian Church of Searcy for many years, and considered one of the best in the Arkansas Presbytery. He brought more life and joy out of a few handfuls of dedicated choir members than most. While he served the Lord with great distinction, he also paved the way for many people to discover the love of Christ in other people. He marched to his own tune, and that tune was a glorious Psalm unto God. His church family will miss him greatly, but they are forever grateful that God allowed them to have Craig all these years. He made their worship service a joyous celebration with his music and quaint little smile.
Survivors include his father, Walter Bell of Des Arc; a brother, James and wife, Stasie of Des Arc; nieces, Taylor and Allie Bell; a special friend, Duke Webb of Searcy; aunts, Carol Bishop, Mary Ann Evans, Stella Crabtree; uncles, Dennis Smith, Ricky Smith, Bobby Smith, and Jasper Bell; and his grandmother, Elizabeth Bell of Des Arc. He was preceded in death by his mother, Lela Joyce Smith Bell.
Memorial services were conducted 10 am Friday at the First Presbyterian Church in Searcy. Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church Music Fund. Arrangements entrusted to Powell Funeral Home of Searcy.
Retha Lou Binyon
April 28, 1951 - August 20, 2012
Retha Lou Binyon age 61, of Jacksonville passed away on Monday, August 20, 2012. She was born April 28, 1951 in Spokane, Washington to Charles Wayne Binyon and June Rose Binyon. Ms. Binyon was preceded in death by her father Charles Wayne Binyon, and her brother Wesley Binyon. She was a loving mother figure to her nieces and nephews, when she gave you her word it was her bond.
She is survived by her mother June Binyon, her brothers, Dwight, Charles, and Steve Binyon and one sister Lisa Smith. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews; John Binyon, Jade Debusk, Dana Gabrion, Justin Jones, Ceianna Jones, and a host of other family and friends.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 23, 2012 at Moore’s Jacksonville Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Park.
Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 22, 2012 at the funeral home.
Ernest “Ernie” Poole
Ernest “Ernie” Poole, age 60, of Des Arc died Sunday. Survivors include his wife, Marsha; one daughter, Teresa Ortega and husband, Tim; one son, Mike Hill and wife, Kim; one stepdaughter, Debbie Markson and husband, Allen; one brother, Herbert; seven grandchildren. Services were 1 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church, Des Arc. Family requests memorials be sent to First Baptist Church, Des Arc.
John Paul Millar
John Paul Millar of Carlisle died Thursday, August 24, 2006. He was born January 8, 1967, in Stuttgart, Arkansas. John was a graduate of Stuttgart High School, Hendrix College and Vanderbilt Law School. He was an attorney with the Administrative Office of the Courts.
John is survived by his wife, Anne Douglas Millar; his children, Ryan, Allison and Paul Millar; his parents, Dr. and Mrs. Paul H. Millar, Jr.; sisters and brothers-in-laws, Susan and Dwight Williams and Cathy and Tom Woods; two nieces, Emily Woods and Olivia Williams; and one nephew, Alexander Woods. John was dearly loved by his family and will be missed every day.
Funeral services were held at the First United Methodist Church in Carlisle on Sunday, August 27, 2006. Burial was in the Oak Grove cemetery in Conway. Memorials may be made to the Stuttgart Public Library or Hendrix College in Conway.
Ulyss Lee “Tooter” Hayes
Ulyss Lee “Tooter” Hayes, 81, died Thursday. Survivors are sons, Richard O. Hayes and wife, Sarah of Roe, Ronald Lee Hayes of Rose Bud; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Graveside services were Saturday, 2 p.m., Shady Grove cemetery, Clarendon. Arrangements by Brown Funeral Home of Clarendon.

Grace Bell (Lawman) Skelton
Grace Bell (Lawman) Skelton, 89, of Newport died Sunday, Oct. 8, 2006 at Little Rock. She was born May 9, 1917 at Hazen, the daughter of Amos Ray and Willie Emaline (Jones) Lawman. She was married
to Ralph Lonzo Skelton. Mrs. Skelton was a nurse for several years and a member of the First Baptist Church. She was a member of the Eastern Star and enjoyed sewing and taking care of her family and home.
Mrs. Skelton was preceded in death by two brothers, Ernest and Porter Lawman; and two sisters, Edith Odell Griffin and Willie Mae Griffin. She is survived by two sons, Ray Skelton and wife, Beverly of Newport and Jimmy Skelton and wife, Charlene of Senatobia, Miss.; one brother, Elmer Lawman of Memphis, Tenn.; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were 11 a.m. Wednesday at Hazen cemetery. Arrangements by Jackson’s Newport Funeral Home.
Allen Nelson
Allen Nelson, 60, of North Little Rock passed on Saturday. Preceded in death by two brothers and sister, James Nelson, Bilal A. Abdullah and Kathryn Nelson. He will be missed by two brothers, Joe Nelson of Little Rock and Albert (Ella) Nelson of North Little Rock.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Carlisle cemetery.

Edith Saylors Rogers
Edith Saylors Rogers of Stuttgart, widow of Melvin V. Rogers, died Saturday, October 7, 2006, at Crestpark of Stuttgart. Mrs. Rogers was born December 15, 1914, in Des Arc, the daughter of Fred and Freddie Saylors, and had resided her adult life in Stuttgart.
Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, James Saylors and Sam Ballowe. Survivors are her sister, Netsie Tinkle of Cotton Plant, Ark; her sons, H. Donald Owens of Midway, Ark., James F. Owens of San Diego, Calif., and Larry W. Rogers of Houston, Texas; her daughter, Linda C. Taylor of Walls, Miss.; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
A graveside service, officiated by the Rev. Gregg Greenway, was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Lone Tree cemetery chapel with burial following in Lone Tree cemetery by Turpin Funeral Home of Stuttgart. The family requests memorials be made to Southside Baptist Church.
Troy Ewing
Troy Ewing, 79, of Stuttgart, died Monday, October 9, 2006. Mr. Ewing was born March, 11, 1927 in Clarendon, Arkansas, the son of Guy and Bonny Ruth Ewing. He was a contractor and a member of the Park Avenue Baptist Church.
Survivors are his wife, Frances White Ewing; four stepsons, Rickey White of Stuttgart, David White of Sherwood, Troy White Jr. of Vilonia and Jim Ewing of California; stepdaughter, Diane Bradshaw of Florida; brother, Travis Ewing of Houston, Texas; sister-in-law, Addie Ewing of Des Arc; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, October 12, 2006 at the Center Point Baptist Church near Hazen. Interment was in the Center Point cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Park Avenue Baptist Church Building Fund in Stuttgart.
