Curtis Lynn Herring
Curtis Lynn Herring, 37, of De Valls Bluff, died Tuesday, April 4, 2006. He is survived by his wife, Kimberly Herring of De Valls Bluff; his loving father and step-mother, Vernon and Beverly Herring of Alexander; his loving mother, Joy Briggs of DeValls Bluff; his grandmother, Alberta Herring Knowles of Carlisle; his grandfather, W.T. Buck of De Valls Bluff; his sisters, Charlotte Bledsoe of Gretena, Louisiana and Jaime Lee of Little Rock; one brother, Lawrence Briggs, Jr. of Arkadelphia, and many uncles, aunts, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Linnie Buck of De Valls Bluff; grandfather, Charles Herring of Carlisle and a sister, Teresa Pinland of Alexander. Rest in Peace. Graveside services will be 10 a.m., Saturday, April 8, 2006 at Oakland cemetery in De Valls Bluff. Arrangements are by Westbrook Funeral Home of Hazen.
Mildred Morrow
Mildred Morrow, born February 23, 1932, took the long journey home on April 1, 2006. She was preceded in death by her father, mother and sister. Mildred lived her entire life in DeValls Bluff. She graduated from DeValls Bluff High School, going on to acquire her B.S.E. Degree. After a brief career in teaching, she went to work for the Farm Agency Services USDA, formerly known as ASCS, retiring around 1991. She also served as an Alderman for several terms and was a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church. She loved animals, crossword puzzles and attending the Spring Fashion Show each year. Mildred had many cats and was an avid bird watcher. She wrote a column, "The Birds Eye View" for DeValls Bluff and Hazen newspapers. She was always available to pet sit, listen to your troubles or tell you about the birds you might see. She will be missed by all who knew her. Memorial Services will be 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 12 at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Tollville. Arrangements by Boyd Funeral Home, Lonoke.
Margaret Lucille Park
Margaret Lucille Park, age 87, born June 10, 1918 in Roe, Ark., died April 6, 2006 at Stuttgart Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Parks was a member of Clarendon First Baptist Church and the Gleaners Sunday School Class.
Mrs. Park was preceded in death by her husband, Louis E. Park; her parents, Ivan and Gladys Moore McCrea; and her sister, Shirley Pupsta. Survivors include four sisters, Genny Jackson and husband, Dema of Benton, Ark., Elvia Bridges of Sherwood, Ark., Effie Reinagel of Cordova, Tenn., and Elizabeth Vickory of Butler, Mo.; numerous nieces, nephews and many friends.
Funeral services was at Clarendon First Baptist Church, Saturday, April 8th with Rev. Johnny Jackson officiating. Burial at Shady Grove cemetery, Clarendon. Pallbearers were Johnny Ellis, Steele Boyd, Jimmy Reynolds, James Boston, Carlton Self, and Tommy Simpson. Memorials may be made to Clarendon First Baptist Church or a charity of your choice. Leonard Todd
The Lord called Leonard Todd, 70, of Carlisle, home on Monday, May 15, 2006. He was born to Everett and Myrtle Todd on July 10, 1935 in DeValls Bluff, where he was raised. He graduated from the Arkansas School for the Blind He made his home in DeValls Bluf with his wife, Betty, until they moved to Carlisle in 1971. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Lucy Todd and Elsie Huggs; and one brother, Lloyd Todd.
He is survived by his wife, Betty; three daughters, Bonnie Hale, Rachel Mees, Amey Watson; one brother, Jerry Todd; five sisters, Rosa Barnett, Anita Black, Mary Stokes, Evelyn Gales and Ruth Calvert; and 11 grandchildren.
Funeral services were Wednesday, May 17, at Westbrook Funeral Home Chapel in Hazen. Burial was in Oakland cemetery, DeValls Bluff. Pallbearers were Bonnie Hale, Rachel Mees, Amey Watson, John Mees, Greg Hale and Darrien Reed.
Zane Axle Kendrick
Zane Axle Kendrick, infant son of Magen Kendrick and Danny Fricker, became God’s newest angel on Monday May 15, 2006. Other survivors are his maternal grandparents, Tammara Kendrick and Richard Kendrick; paternal grandparents, Vickie Rollins, Larry Fricker and Charles Rollins; maternal great-grandparents, Marylin Kelly and Cecil Calvert; paternal great-grandparents, Brenda Metcals, James Fricker and Donna Fricker. CHARLES DONALD BALLARD
July 19, 1957 - June 10, 2013
Charles Donald “Donney” Ballard age 55, of Cabot passed away on Monday, June 10, 2013. He was born July 19, 1957 in Blytheville, Arkansas to the late Charles Donald Ballard and Carol Ballard. He was preceded in death by his sister Karen Ballard. He was co-owner of A&B; Foreign Car Repair in Cabot with his business partner Adam Adams. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his loving wife Donna Ballard, his children; Michael Ryan Ballard and his wife Jennifer Renee Ballard, Charles Raymond Ballard and his wife Vanessa Renee Ballard, siblings; Mark Ballard and his wife Annie, Eric Ballard, Wanda Callahan and her husband David, mother and father-in-law Nadine and Roy Blazer, nieces and nephews, Danielle Hernandez, Robert and Kristen Callahan, Bryan, Deborah, and Shae Ballard and five great-nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 14, 2013 at Moore’s Jacksonville Funeral Home. Inurnment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Park.

Roger Keith Lott, age 45, of Hazen died Wednesday. He is survived by his wife, Jeannie; two sons, Joshua Lott, Jacob Lott; two daughters, Chelsea Lott, Cayla Lott; father, Leonard Lott; mother, Janetta Lott; four brothers, Randy Lott, Ricky Lott, Ronnie Lott, Robert Lott; two grandchildren.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Hickory Plains Missionary Baptist Church with burial in Center Point cemetery by Garth Funeral Home.
Michael Allan Cole
Michael Allan Cole, age 44, died May 16, 2006. Mike loved fishing, hunting, camping and being with his friends. He is preceded in death by his father, Alvin Cole; two brothers, Clyde and Chuck Cole; and one sister, Phyllis Cole. Survivors include his mother, Opal Cole of Carlisle; one son, Eric Cole of Carlisle; three brothers, Earnest (Petra) Cole of Germany, Tim (Toni) Cole of Carlisle, Lester Cole of Humnoke; and two sisters, Vickie (Billy) Madar and Kathy Cole Parker of Carlisle; and a host of family and friends. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 20, 2006, at Boyd Funeral Home, Lonoke, with interment in Hamilton cemetery.
Callie L. DeVinney
Callie Louise DeVinney, 86, of LA Center, Ky., died on May 18, 2006. She was born in Lonoke to the late Hugh and Callie Staton DeVinney. She lived in Mabelvale for 15 years. She is survived by her daughter, Fran (Charles) Pope of Mabelvale; sister, Lois Munnerlyn of Carlisle, seven grandchildren; a number of great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Sunday, May 21 at Boyd Chapel with interment in Legate cemetery. Arrangements by Boyd Funeral Home, Lonoke.
Darren Lee Voumard
Darren Lee Voumard, 34, died Thursday, May 18, 2006. Darren was born August 17, 1971, in Stuttgart, to Gerald and Barbara Floyd Voumard. He was a graduate of DeValls Bluff High School and was a pilot employed by Aufderheide Flying Service in DeWitt for several years. He was a member of Southside Baptist Church.
His grandparents, Charlie and Gen Voumard, Donald Floyd, Sam Marchand and Nelson and Margaret Anderson; and a sister, Shelley Voumard, preceded him in death. Survivors are his wife, Dawn Bogy Voumard, and their daughter, Kelbi Paige; his parents, Gerald and Barbara Voumard of Ulm; his grandmother, Mildred Marchand of Stuttgart; two brothers, Mark Voumard and wife, Mary K of Little Rock and Curtis Voumard and wife, Lisa of DeValls Bluff; his father- and mother-in-law, Ronnie and Kathy Bogy of Humphrey; his wife’s grandparents, Buddy and Juanita Bogy of Wabbaseka; his wife’s brother, Chris Bogy and wife, Brandy of Humphrey; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services, officiated by Bro. Gregg Greenway, were held at 10 a.m. Monday at Lone Tree cemetery. The family requests memorials be made to Southside Baptist Church or the donor’s choice.
Boice Alston Minton
Boice Alston Minton of Little Rock died Saturday, May 20 at the age of 99. For a man of his years, he remained remarkably vigorous and alert until his final decline began several weeks ago. He is survived by his wife, Elsie Johnson Minton; one child, Elizabeth Faye Minton; one sister, Ada Minton Long of Memphis, Tenn.; five nieces and five nephews.
Boice was born on March 25, 1907, to Sidney and Bertie Sparks Minton of Hazen, Ark. His parents preceded him in death along with five siblings, Elbert Minton, Dudley Minton, Reginald Minton, Sophia Minton Lambeth, and Oresa Minton Warren. The Mintons were farmers in Prairie County and for a time operated a small dairy. They suffered financial setbacks during the Depression, and Boice devoted his early manhood to earning enough money to buy back the family farm, eventually presenting his parents with the deed. Faithfulness and devotion to family was the hallmark of his life.
After his graduation from Hazen High School and Draughon Business College, his work history included positions in management and accounting with a chain of department stores, a motor company, and a farm equipment dealership. When he had the chance to return to farming at the start of World War II, his love of working on the land reasserted itself.
Boice was a pioneer in rice farming on the Grand Prairie. In 1943, he began growing rice on the Minton farm in Hazen. Several years later, he bought and cleared the area originally known as “Big Slash” near Des Arc and established one of the first rice farms in the area.
Boice was only too happy to trade a desk for a tractor. He loved nothing better than spending time in the outdoors. Immersing himself in the beauty of God’s world was his form of worship. He may have seemed socially remote to some people, as he rambled through fields and woods with only one of his beloved bird dogs at his side. He loved shooting quail and took great pride in the retrievers he trained. Along with his hunting dogs, his greatest joy was the breeding and training of horses. He remembered all of his animals in vivid detail. Everyone who knew him in his later years will remember his stories of dogs and horses past. Although he was not a gregarious man, when Boice made a friend, he was tenaciously loyal. He will be missed.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, May 23, 2006, at Westbrook Funeral Home Chapel in Hazen. Interment will be in the Hazen cemetery.
Boice Minton was of that generation who lived life with a sense of duty and obligation. All of his decisions were based on his own personal moral code, from which he never deviated. He left this world with nothing on his conscience, for he had done his best.
FRANKLIN ODELL HESTER
June 6, 1937 - April 6, 2012
Franklin Odell Hester, Sr. of Cabot was born June 6, 1937 in Bald Knob to the late Alonzo and Lorene Farris Hester. He took the Lord’s hand as he left this earth Friday, April 6, 2012 at the age of 74, from complications of pneumonia and congestive heart failure.
He was a wonderful husband, father and pawpaw and a true friend to all that knew him. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years Erna Behr Hester of Cabot, his daughter Liana (Jim) of Cabot and his son, Frank, Jr. (Marcha) of Hastings, Nebraska; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren as well as two brothers, Wayne Crenshaw of Texas and Martin McClain of Tennessee and two sisters, Dixie McClain of Jacksonville and Pam Johnson of Heber Springs. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Geneva Parker and a brother, Marvin McClain.
Mr. Hester was retired from the U.S. Army after serving 20 years then retired from the Veteran’s Hospital after 36 years. He served in Korea and Vietnam where he received a Bronze Star. Brother Frank was a 32 degree mason and was a Past Master of Faulkner Lodge No. 738. He was a past Patron of Jacksonville Chapter 520, Cabot Chapter 508 and Past Worthy Grand Patron of Arkansas.
A memorial service will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 10, 2012 in the chapel of Moore’s Jacksonville Funeral Home. The Hester family will receive family and friends at their home in Cabot. Arrangements are under the direction of Moore’s Jacksonville Funeral Home and Crematory (501)982-2136.
Mary Emma-Jean Dicus Gates
Mary Emma-Jean Dicus Gates, 78, of Hazen, died Friday, May 19, 2006. She was a homemaker and a member of Center Point Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, W.L. and Zelma Birdsong Dicus; her husband, Troy Ray Gates, and two brothers, Hersel Mathews and Walter Birdsong.
She is survived by one son, Kenneth Wayne Gates and one daughter, Sharon Gates; one brother, Andrew Dicus; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Wednesday morning, May 24, at Center Point Baptist Church. Burial was in the Center Point cemetery. Arrangements were by Westbrook Funeral Home of Hazen.

Henry Holloway, 79, of Little Rock passed away Aug. 18, 2006. He leaves to cherish his memories one sister, Lizzie “A.B.” Nichols of Little Rock and stepsister, Frances (Jake) Mosby of Hazen, Ark. Jerry Donald Pendergrass
First Sergeant (Ret.) Jerry Donald Pendergrass, age 66, of Jacksonville, Ark. passed away Monday, Aug. 21, 2006 after a long illness.
He was born on May 2, 1940 in Biscoe, Ark. to the late William Abner and Athena Petty Pendergrass. He is also preceded in death by a brother, William H. Pendergrass. He was a 24 year Army Veteran who served during the Vietnam War.
He is survived by his loving wife, Robbie Canfield Pendergrass; special sister-in-law, Faye Pendergrass; sister, June Cox of Biscoe, Ark. and children, Erwin, Brigitte and husband, John, Christine and husband, Billy Jack, Gary and wife, Tanja, and four step-children, Kevin Canfield of Jacksonville, Kelly Canfield of Maumelle, Susan Canfield Tharp of Jacksonville and Chris Canfield of Jacksonville; 15 grandchildren, one great-grandchild and seven nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 24, 2006 at Moore’s Jacksonville Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Carol Goddard officiating. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Park cemetery. A special appreciation to the medical staff of Springhill Baptist for their kindness, loving care and support they provided to his family.
