Mary Barron
NORTH LITTLE ROCK -- Mary Gwendolyn Garr Barron, 79, of North Little Rock passed away Monday, July 17, 2006.
She was born Aug. 19, 1926, to the late Charles and Mary Garr and grew up in Camden. She was a drum majorette, homecoming queen and played baritone in the school band. Gwen went to college at Henderson State University for one year. She then went to work for the Veterans Administration, where she met her future husband, Col. William H. Barron. They were married
56 years. She was very active in her four children's lives, assuming the roles of scout leader and PTA mother. Gwen loved to swim and enjoyed water aerobics for many years before her death. She loved dancing as a young girl and later as a mother and grandmother. She loved football and was an avid Razorback fan. She was a longtime member of Lakewood United Methodist Church. She had a wonderful sense of humor and a quick wit and will be greatly missed by her friends and family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband.
She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Stephen Thomas and Karen Barron of Knoxville, Tenn., Dr. William Garr and Rosalind Barron of Russellville, James Harold and Diane Barron of Brazona, Texas; a daughter, Mary Ann Barron of Sherwood; a brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Helen Garr of North Little Rock; a sister-in-law, Nelda Dozier, and husband Jack of Hot Springs; eight grandchildren, Emily, Doug, Christine, Nicholas, Jason, Matthew, Eric and Corey, and a host of nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, July 21, at Lakewood United Methodist Church. The family will receive visitors at the church following the service.
Arrangements are by North Little Rock Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to The Shriners Hospital in Houston, Texas.
Angela Garcia
CLARKSVILLE -- Infant Angela Garcia of Clarksville died Tuesday, July 18, 2006, at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences hospital in Little Rock.
Survivors include her parents, J. Isabel Garcia and Blanca Garcia of Clarksville, and two brothers, Omar and Brian Garcia of Clarksville.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. today at Holy Redeemer cemetery in Clarksville. Arrangements are by Roller Cox Funeral Home.
Carl Whitehurst
Carl Dean Whitehurst, Sr., 57, of Clarksville, Tenn., died Tuesday, July 18, 2006 at Gateway Medical Center in Clarksville, Tenn.
The son of Joseph Evans and Joyce Maxine (Roberts) Smith, he was born Oct. 20, 1948, in Phenix City, Ala. He was retired from the United States Army, and was later employed by DynCorp. He was a member of the VFW and the American Legion.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife Bobbie Whitehurst of Clarksville, Tenn.; a son, Carl Dean Whitehurst, Jr. of Russellville; two brothers, Randall L. Howard of Columbus, Ga., and Robert B. Robertson of Liberty, N.C.; and two grandchildren, Audrey Denae Whitehurst and Kyra Nicole Whitehurst.
Funeral will be at noon Friday, July 21, at Sykes Funeral Home in Clarksville, Tenn. Graveside service and burial will Tuesday, July 25, at Rest Haven Memorial Park in Russellville by Humphrey Funeral Service.

Phillip Ball
DARDANELLE — Phillip Dee Ball, 63, went to be with Jesus on Friday, Dec. 29, 2006, at his home in Delaware, Ark.
Survivors include his wife, Gail Stone Ball; a son, Phillip D. Ball; two grandchildren, Jake Ball and Samantha Patillo; caregiver and great-nephew, William Stone; beloved mother-in-law, Eva Mae Stone; a brother, James Ball and wife, Laura; brother-in-law, Eddie Stone, and wife, Twila; and a host of family and friends.

Beatrice Ferguson
Beatrice Ferguson, 90, a resident of Russellville, died Monday, Jan. 8, 2007, at her home.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 11, 2007, at the Shinn Chapel. Burial will be in Oakland cemetery at Russellville under the direction of Shinn Funeral Service.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time on Thursday at Shinn Chapel.

Emmett Haney
ATKINS — Emmett C. Haney, 79, died on Saturday, Jan. 6, 2007, at Atkins Nursing and Rehab.
He was born Dec. 23, 1927, in Fort Smith, the son of Emmett Brooks and Viva Elizabeth Ford Haney. He grew up in Russellville where he graduated from Russellville High School and was later inducted into Russellville Athletic Hall of Fame. He attended Arkansas Tech University and later served his country in the U.S. Army stationed in Germany. He married
Bobbie Williams from Hattieville on June 19, 1955. He was later employed by Bush Brothers Canning Company as a regional sales manager until his retirement in 1992.
Emmett was a dedicated member of Atkins First Baptist Church and was ordained as a deacon Feb. 22, 1987. He was active in his church life until his health began to fail.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years and two daughters and sons-in-law, Carla and Stephen Ring of Cabot, and Carroll and Tim Haney of Batesville; four grandchildren, S.R. Jacob Ring of the U.S.Navy, San Diego, Calif., and Daniel, Sarah and Elizabeth Ring of Cabot; two brothers, James Robert Haney of Atkins and Lloyd Elmo Haney of Atkins; and two sisters, Mary Ellen Horton of Russellville and Elizabeth Norris of Russellville.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Brooks Haney; and one sister, Joann McCollum.
Funeral Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Atkins First Baptist Church with Robbie Jackson officiating. Burial will be in the Old Hickory cemetery. Arrangements are by Lemley Funeral Service of Atkins.
Pallbearers will be Bruce Haney, Robert Haney, David Haney, Robert McCollum, Jimmy Horton, Randy Haney, Steve Pyle and Daniel Ring.

Virgil Holt
CLARKSVILLE — Virgil Eugene Holt, 74, of Lamar died Friday, Jan. 5, 2007, at his home.
He was a carpenter, and was preceded in death by his parents, Pete and Myrtle Sparks Holt; brothers, Elmer Holt and Richard Holt; sisters, Jewel Holt and Opal Spitler; and one grandchild, Rodney.
Survivors include his wife, JoAnn Ralph Holt of Lamar; daughters, Janice Holtzclaw of Coal Hill, Barbara Payne of Lamar and Amanda Smith of Lamar; sons, Steve Holt of Ozone, Rick Holt of Clarksville and Chris Holt of Morrilton; brother, Wilbern Holt of Stites, Idaho; sisters, Gladys Sparks of Clarksville and Ruby Coleman of Dennison, Texas; 18 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2007, at Roller Cox Funeral Home Chapel in Clarksville with Bill Holt officiating. Burial will be in Lamar cemetery in Lamar.

Goldie Lyons
Goldie Bonita Lyons, 80, died Friday, Jan. 5, 2007, in Texas.
She was born Goldie Bonita Crites, Aug. 18, 1926, at Gum Log in Pope County to Kirksey and Sarah (McAnulty) Crites. She was married
Jan. 1, 1944, to William Allen Tredwell, with whom she had two children, Carolyn Jane Hargrove of Lubbock and Debra Kay Kirk of Lubbock. She married
William Cleo Lyons May 5, 1967, and was preceded by him in death in January 1996. She married
Hugo Diego in July 1997. She was a member of South Plains Church of Christ.
She is survived by her two daughters; two granddaughters, Leslie Pendergrass of Lubbock and Tina Lively of Albuquerque, N.M.; and four great-grandchildren, Brooke Pendergrass, Cory Martin, Dakota Coursey and Chase Lively.
A memorial service was held Monday, Jan. 8, 2007, at Resthaven Chapel with Bob Reynolds officiating.
Quinn Page Jr.
ATKINS — Quinn Page, Jr., 82, of Atkins, died Monday, Jan. 8, 2007, at Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center.
He was born July 17, 1924, at Treat, to Quinn and Lottie Underhill Page. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, of the Assembly of God faith, and enjoyed fishing and hunting.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Glenn Page; four sisters, Dolly Mathis, Clara Hayes, Euva Newton and Artie Page; and three brothers, Bill Page, Jack Page and Eugene Page.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Lucille Page of Atkins; a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and John Hickman of Atkins; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Earl and Bonnie Page and Kenneth and Vela Page, all of Russellville; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Jewell Mathis of Russellville, Cledith and Glen Latham of Russellville, and Faye and W.A. McAnulty of Pottsville; six grandchildren, James and Stacey Darter of Atkins, Cory Moore of Atkins, Scott and Nathan Page of Russellville and Heather Dunaway of London; a great-grandson, Devin Dunaway of London; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2007, at the Shinn Chapel officiated by the Rev. Roy Chisum and the Rev. William Hickman. Burial with military honors provided by the Rogers- Rye Post 2283 of Veterans of Foreign Wars, will be in Pisgah cemetery near Pottsville under the direction of Shinn Funeral Service.
Active pallbearers will be Kenneth Page, Earl Page, Philip McCutcheon, Steven McCutcheon, Tommy Bowden and Freddy Bowden.

James Thompson
ATKINS — James Leonard Thompson, 87, of Atkins, died Sunday, Jan. 7, 2007, at Saint Mary's Regional Medical Center.
He was born July 28, 1919, in Conway County, Ark., and was the son of the late Eugene and Hettie Williams Thompson. His wife, Helen Thompson, and two brothers, Tom Thompson and William Lee Thompson, also preceded him in death. He was retired from ConAgra.
He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Jo Ann and Steve Moreland of Atkins and Peggy and Garry White of Atkins; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Graveside service and burial will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10, at Pisgah cemetery with the Rev. Jeff Cheatham officiating. Arrangements are by Lemley Funeral Service.
