Benny Joe Roberts Sr.
Benny Joe Roberts Sr., 67, of Beebe, formerly of Sherwood, died Tuesday, January 8, 2002.
He was retired Sgt. First Class in the U.S. Army and a member of El Paso First Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mary E. “Beth” Roberts; three sons, Joe Roberts of Benton, Greg Roberts of Beebe, Rusty Roberts of Sherwood; one sister, Ida Ruth Corbitt of Houston, Texas; five grandchildren.
Funeral services were Friday at North Little Rock Funeral Home Chapel.
Burial was in Rowell cemetery with military honors.

Michael Zvoncheck
Michael John Zvoncheck, 21, of Little Rock died Saturday.
He was a cable hookup operator.
He is survived by two brothers, William and David; one sister, Summer D’joy; his great-grandmother, Sophie Slifka.
Memorial service was held Jan. 12, at #18 Pennwood Drive, Sherwood.
Arrangements were by Calhoun-Wilson Funeral Home.

Funeral service for Matthew B. Martindale, 65 of Sherwood were held Monday, Jan. 14, at the New Mt. Zion M.B. Church, 404 Wallace Road, North Little Rock.
Burial was in National cemetery, Little Rock.

Harold R. Wyatt
Harold R. Wyatt, 55, of Conway died Friday, Jan. 11, 2002.
He was a supervisor at Southwestern Bell, a member of Harlan Park Bible Church, Crescent Masonic Lodge-NLR, Telephone Pioneers and the Army National Guard.
He was past president of Rebel Reelers Square Dance Club and the Bryant Booster Club.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon Kay Wyatt of Conway; two daughters, Audrea Toal and Jennifer Sides of Conway; four grandchildren; and two sisters, Betty Hagerman and Carma Robinson, both of Sherwood.
Funeral services were Monday at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home in Conway.
Burial was in Edgewood cemetery in North Little Rock.
Richard Bowman
Richard Bowman, 66, of Searcy died Thursday.
He was a member of Masonic Lodge, St. Marys CME, church treasurer, recording steward, treasurer for White County Singing Federation, American Legion and Disabled American Veterans.
He is survived by his father, Eugene Bowman of Saginaw, Mich.; one son, R. Kevin Bowman of Sherwood; one daughter, Tamara Lynn Johnson of Little Rock; three brothers, David Bowman of Marvell, Preston Bowman of Jonesboro, Charles Bowman of Saginaw, Mich.; four sisters, Mona Coleman, Mavis Green, both of Little Rock, Alma Jean Woodmore of St. Louis, Sarah Jamison of Saginaw, Mich.; and four grandchildren.
Services were Tuesday at St. Mary CME in Searcy. Interment at Oaklawn cemetery. Arrangements by McEuen Funeral Home in Searcy.
Thelma L.. Collins
Thelma L. Collins of Jacksonville died Jan. 11, 2002.
She was an employee of Philander Smith College for over 16 years, and was a member of the North Little Rock Mission.
Survivors are three daughters, Barbara Beavers of North Little Rock, Ella Graham of Jacksonville and Faye Lambert of Sherwood; one son, Billy Collins of Little Rock; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were Jan. 19 at King Solomon Baptist Church.

Tyler Dean Howanietz
Tyler Dean Howanietz of North Little Rock died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2002.
He is survived by his parents, Steven and Shalaine Howanietz of North Little Rock; his grandparents, Chuck and Missy Gates of Jacksonville, Roger S. Miller of Green River, Wyo., and Stevie and Joe Elmer of Austin; great-grandparents, J.D. and Tina Pride of Sherwood, Nora Almus Beam of Cabot and Barbara Taner of Jackson, Mo.
A graveside service was held Sunday, Jan. 13, at Rest Hills Memorial Park.
Vida Cartwright
Vida “Jim” Cartwright, 77, of Sherwood died Friday, Jan. 11, 2002.
She was retired from Maybelline.
Survivors are her son, James Dowell Cartwright Jr. of Ward; two daughters, Rhona Cartwright of Dallas, Texas, Lesa McGhee of Sherwood; sister, Doris Huddle of Houston, Texas; three grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
Funeral services were Monday at the North Little Rock Funeral Home Chapel.
Burial was in Liberty cemetery in Adona.
Jesse Nesbitt
Jesse Nesbitt, 78, of Sherwood died March 3, 2002.
He retired from the postal service where he worked for 35 years. He was a World War II veteran.
He was one of the founding fathers of the city of Sherwood where he served on its original city council.
He started the first youth baseball team in the Sherwood area in 1955 and continued to coach for many years.
He was instrumental in forming the first Sylvan Hills/Sherwood Optimist Club and Sylvan Hills High School Booster Club.
Survivors include his wife Dorothy Nesbitt, daughter, Diana L. King, son, Bob Nesbitt, all of Sherwood, daughter Debra Tice of Maumelle; four grandchildren; three brothers, Gordon, Charles and Boyd Nesbitt, and two sisters: Louise Vandergrift and Connie Gwatney.
Funeral services were March 5, at the Griffin-Leggett-Rest Hills Funeral Home Chapel, with burial at Rest Hills Memorial Park.
Services are under the direction of Griffin-Leggett-Rest Hills Funeral Home of North Little Rock.
Effie Gladys Harness
Effie Gladys (Bonds) Harness, 89, of Clinton, died Saturday, March 2, 2002.
She is survived by her five children, Faye Nixon of Bee Branch, Lindsey Harness of Mountain View, Wayne Harness of Sherwood, Shirlene Ward of Clinton, and Carolyn Parker of Carlisle; 16 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Jack, Loyd and Bill Bonds, and one sister, Zona Harness, all of Clinton.
Services were Tuesday, March 5, at the Roller-McNutt Funeral Home in Clinton.
Burial was at Holly Mountain cemetery.

Senior Airman Corey Gene Vaughan, age 21, of Little Rock, who was stationed in Panama City, Fla., died Feb. 26, 2002.
He is survived by his parents; son, Taylor Matthew; a sister, Stephanie Vaughan; grandparents, Mary Sue and John Petty of Mabelvale, Pat and David Wilson of Mabelvale, June and Willis Sr. of Morgan; great-grandmother, Burnelle McArthur of Sherwood.
A gathering in Corey’s remembrance was held Wednesday, March 6, in the chapel of Griffin Leggett Healey & Roth, 5800 West 12th St., Little Rock.
Burial was in Salem cemetery.
June Barker-Brown
June Evelyn Barker-Brown, 44, of Sherwood, died Feb. 23, 2002.
She is survived by her two sons, Adrian and Jeremy; a daughter, Coutenay Ashley Brown all of Sherwood; mother, Lonez H. Barker of Earle; two sisters, Austria Coleman of Little Rock, Jacqueline Love.
Funeral services were held at Sylvan Hills High School Gymnasium.
