Ramona (Gommie) S. Haynes, 72, of Sherwood died Sept. 28, 2002.
She is survived by five daughters, Dana Ritchison of Benton, Glynna Swanner of Waco, Texas, Shannon Haynes of Houston, Texas, Robin Spivey of Lufkin, Texas, Dena Haynes of Sherwood; son, David B. Haynes of Lufkin, Texas; sister, Yvonne McQuaid of Calif.; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren. Memorial services were Tuesday at Huson Funeral Home, 7700 Hwy. 107 in Sherwood.
Minnie Patterson
Minnie Louise Patterson of Sherwood, died Oct. 2, 2002.
She is survived by three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.

Gregory Alan Caple
Gregory Alan Caple, of Benton died Oct. 1, 2002.
He attended Henderson State College at Arkadelphia.
He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Virginia and Milton Hirman of Benton; one brother, Joe Caple of Sherwood; one sister, Cheryl Hawkins of Bauxite; and his grandfather, Roy Strange of Bauxite.
At Greg’s request, he was cremated, with no services.
Barbara Caldarera
Barbara Elaine Caldarera, 51, of North Little Rock died Oct. 6, 2002.
She was a member of Brockington Road Nazarene Church.
She is survived by her son, Joseph Caldarera Jr. of North Little Rock; daughter, Christa Burrows of Ward; mother, Mary Brown of North Little Rock; sister, Margaret Conway of Cabot; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Thursday, at Brockington Road Nazarene Church with interment in Edgewood Memorial Park.

Ellen Brady
Ellen Josephine Brady, 89, passed away Oct. 3, 2002. She is survived by two daughters, Sue Nodd of Blytheville, and Patsy Johnston (Lonnie) of Sherwood; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and several special friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnie Brady; a daughter, Emogene Newton; a granddaughter, Mary Russom; and a son-in-law, Louis Nodd. Funeral was held Saturday at Boyd Funeral Home Chapel in Lonoke, with interment in Lonoke cemetery.
Edward Coleman
Edward Berl Coleman, 77, of Cabot died Oct. 5, 2002. He was the owner of a material handling company until his retirement and a Deacon of Walnut Street Baptist Church in Jonesboro. He is survived by his wife, Alladene; son, Michael Coleman of North Little Rock; three grandchildren; brothers, J.D. Coleman of Black Oak, Glen, Aaron, Douglas, and Franklin Coleman all of Paragould. Funeral services were Oct. 9, at Huson Funeral Home Chapel, 7700 Highway 107, Sherwood. Interment was in Arkansas State Veterans cemetery, North Little Rock. Memorials be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society or the American Parkinson’s Disease Association.
Jerry Tarkington
Jerry Wayne Tarkington of Sherwood passed away Oct. 8, 2002. He was born April 18, 1952, in Little Rock to Harold W. and Katherine Louise (Crafton) Tarkington.
Mr. Tarkington was retired from the National Guard. He was the owner of Tropical Hair Hut in Gravel Ridge, and also loved his job as an assistant general manager at the Arkansas fairground complex. He liked to hunt, loved drag racing and his ‘55 Chevrolet racecar.
A Southern Baptist who was a “jack of all trades,” he enjoyed new things and doing his yard work. He loved everyone and everything and everyone loved him. He was the center of everyone’s world who enjoyed taking care of his wife and family.
Mr. Tarkingtrn is preceeded in death by his father, Harold W. Tarkington. Survivors include his wife, Laveda Tarkington; his mother, Katherine Louise Tarkington; three sons, Steven Wayne Tarkington, Bobby Heffner, and Luis B. Heffner; two daughters, Amy Lynn Tarkington and Kathy Marie Tarkington; one brother, Larry Harold Tarkington; and eight grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11, at Griffin-Leggett Rest Hills in Sherwood with Rev. Paul Rice officiating. Interment will follow at Rest Hills Memorial Park. A gathering of friends and family will be from 5-8 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 10 at the funeral home.
Essa Ishak Akel
Essa Ishak Akel, 78, of Sherwood, died Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2002.
He was a North Little Rock businessman for 40 years and a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. He is survived by two sons, George Akel and Nidol (Nick) Akel, of Mabelvale; two daughters, Wisam Kassees and Magidah Akel of Sherwood; one brother, Fuad Akel of Chicago; two sisters, Masadeh Bateh of Jacksonville, Fla., and Nama Alley of Sherwood; six grandchildren; one great-grand-daughter.
A Rosary was held Sept. 20, at Roller-Owens Funeral Home. A mass of the Resurrection was held Saturday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 7000 John F. Kennedy Blvd., North Little Rock. Interment was in Rest Hills Memorial Park.
Dorothy Coker
Dorothy “Nanny” Coker, 80, of Sherwood, died Sept. 18, 2002. She was a member of First Assembly of God Church in North Little Rock.
Survivors include a son, Joseph Coker of Mayflower; two daughters, Helen Goddard of Stockton, Calif., and Sheila Coker of Sherwood; two brothers, T.J. Barnhart and Sonny Fulmer both of North Little Rock; two sisters, Elvada Lasseigne of Baton Rouge, La., and Lorene Swayze of Pinole, Calif.; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.

Ruby M. McCraw, 88, of Sherwood, died Sept. 18, 2002.

Angus Ray Morrison
Angus Ray Morrison, age 92, of Rison died Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2002. He retired from the Arkansas State Game and Fish Commission where he was a State Game Warden for over 26 years. He was a member of the Arkansas State Employment Retirement Association and a Methodist. He is survived by his wife, Mildred England Morrison of Rison; one son, Ray E. Morrison of Rison; two daughters, Kay Reed of Rison and Angela Day of Sherwood; one brother, Jones Morrison of the Pansy Community; and one sister, Pauline Pintato of Glenwood; 5 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were Sept. 20, at the Buie Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Greenwood cemetery.
Frances Smithson
Frances Dodson Smithson, 80, of North Little Rock, died Sept. 21, 2002.
She was a long time volunteer for the American Red Cross and many other organizations.
Survivors include husband, Colonel Claude Smithson; one son, John M. Smithson of North Little Rock; one sister, Amy Thomas of Sherwood; two brothers, Bert Dodson of Hot Springs, Albert Dodson of Jacksonville; two grandchildren; one great-granddaughter.
Graveside services, under the supervision of Roller-Owens Funeral Home were Tuesday, Sept. 24, at the Arkansas State Veterans’ cemetery, North Little Rock.
Lunda Alexander
Lunda Brown Alexander, 89, of Sherwood died Sept. 21, 2002.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church at Corning, and Central Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Joann Pritchett of Sherwood; two grandsons; one great-grandson; one great-grand-daughter.
Funeral was Sept. 24 at Central Baptist Church, with burial in Green County Memorial Gardens, Paragould. Roller-Owens Funeral was in charge.

Mary Alice Thomas
Mary Alice Thomas was born in Boicourt, Kansas on August 8, 1921. She died on Friday, Sept. 20, and was preceded in death by her parents and five older brothers.
She moved from Kansas to Washington State during her teenage years where she met and married
Jim Thomas on July 15, 1940.
After moving to Arkansas in September of 1972 she was employed as a secretary for the Arkansas Medical Examiner’s Office in Little Rock for several years.
They later moved to Boone County where she worked as a church secretary for 12 years at Southside Baptist Church in South Lead Hill.
She is survived by her husband Jim, son Jim of Sherwood, daughter Jeanie Engelland of Fox Island, Washington, and daughter Linda Richardson of Bergman.
She had 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Othel Geneva Alford
Othel Geneva West Alford, 86, of Bryant died Sept. 11, 2002.
She was a member of First Pentecostal Church in North Little Rock.
She is survived by her children, Bea Hale of Bryant, Janice Richards of Daytona Beach, Fla., Connie Alford of Bryant, Geneva Healey of Jacksonville and Dianne Meriweather of Sherwood; a brother, Lee West; a sister, Dee Johnston of Edmond, Okla.; 12 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grand-children.
Funeral was Saturday at North Little Rock Funeral Home Chapel, with burial in Pinecrest Memorial Park.

Mayme Hamling
Mayme Hamling, 94, of North Little Rock died Sept. 14, 2002.
She has been a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church for 60 years. She was also a member of the Altar Society.
Survivors include a son, Bernard Hamling of New York; three daughters, Betty Mooser of Little Rock, Rita Hampel of Little Rock, and Bobbie Hindman of Sherwood; 18 grandchildren; 37 great-grand-children ; and three great-great-grandchildren ; and a sister, Eleanor Yanker of North Little Rock.
A Rosary service was said Monday at the North Little Rock Funeral Home. Mass of Christian burial was Tuesday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.
Burial was in the Calvary cemetery.

John Zorn
John Christopher Zorn of Sherwood died Sept. 12, 2002, at the age of 55.
He retired from the Navy in 1989. He was a nuclear submarine inspector and was a veteran of the Vietnam War era.
Zorn was a licensed private investigator.
He is survived by his wife Vanessa Zorn; and a son, Stephen C. Zorn; two brothers, Richard A. Zorn of Tucson, Ariz., and Robert C. Zorn of Little Rock; two sisters, Martha Hardcastle of North Little Rock and Mary Beth DeWitt of Ozark, Mo.
Thelma Copeland
Thelma Raye Copeland, 76, of Maumelle died Sept. 14, 2002. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Basil Copeland of Maumelle; sister, Corrine McLeod of Pangburn; four sons, Basil Jr. (Skip) of Maumelle, Mark of Kissimmee, Florida, Scott, of Sherwood, Oregon. and Tim, of Greenbrier; six grandsons, and four granddaughters. Funeral services were Wednesday at North Little Rock Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Pinecrest Memorial Park.

Ann Elizabeth Medlock, age 30, died Sunday, Sept. 15, 2002.
She is survived by her husband Brad Medlock, a son Hunter Hayes Medlock and a daughter, Hayden Elizabeth Medlock of Sherwood; mother, Jo Mitchell of Mountain View; father, Dr. John A. Webb Jr. of Sherman, Texas; extended parents, Mike Mitchell of Mountain View, Dr. Anne Webb of Sherman, Texas; Jan and Kenneth Medlock of Sherwood; two brothers, Eddie Jack Mitchell of Mountain View, Steve Webb of Sherman, Texas; grandparents, Jack and Mary Hale Hinkle of Mountain View; Dr. John A. Sr. and Judy Webb of Wichita Falls, Texas, Rea Webb of Gainesville, Texas.
She was an active member of the Somers Avenue Church of Christ.
Funeral services, under the direction of Roller-Owens Funeral Home, were Sept. 17, at Somers Avenue Church of Christ, 4801 Somers Avenue in North Little Rock. Interment was in Rest Hill Memorial Park.
