John Wesley 'Jake' Beecher
FISHER -- John Wesley "Jake" Beecher was born April 16, 1932, in Fisher, the son of Henry Ward Beecher and Cecil Hogan Beecher Malding.
He departed this life Dec. 4, 2005, at the age of 73 years.
John Wesley "Jake" Beecher was united in marriage to Arveda Melton on Oct. 29, 1955. She survives of the home in McDougal.
Survivors include a daughter, Lana Jean Nelson of Corning; a son, Farris A. and Tami Beecher of Coon Island, Mo.; three grandchildren, Sonya Elizabeth Thompson, Steven Wayne Beecher and Ashley Daniele Nelson; a brother, Bob Beecher of Corning; a half brother, Charles Malding of Peach Orchard; and three half sisters, Lois Guynes of DeSoto, Mo., Mary Jane Carpenter of Lake Alfred, Fla., and Martha Warbritton of Neelyville, Mo.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Marty Alan Beecher and Tony Dale Beecher; and two brothers, David Woodrow Beecher and James Sanford Beecher.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. today in New Hope Cemetery
at Pollard. Ermert Funeral Home of Corning is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
Victoria Isabella Herrera
JONESBORO -- Victoria Isabella Herrera, 3 months, of Jonesboro, died Wednesday at Arkansas Children's Hospital in Little Rock.
Survivors include her father, David Herrera of Jonesboro; her mother, Angela Roach of Harrisburg; two brothers, Connor Herrera and Antonio Isiah Herrera; a sister, Sarah Ja Roach; and her grandparents, Harvey and Joyce Roach of Harrisburg, and Andrea Herrera of Jonesboro.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity Church in Jonesboro, with Steve Farmer and Roger Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Babyland at Nettleton Cemetery, with Emerson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at Trinity Church in Jonesboro.
Joseph Leon Hobbs
PARAGOULD -- Joseph Leon Hobbs, 75, of Paragould died Dec. 2, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.
Born March 6, 1930, at Fancy Farm, Ky., he had worked as a farmer, was a veteran of the
Korean War and a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.
He is survived by a brother, James Hobbs of Paragould; and a sister, Frances Edwards of Paragould.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel E. and Ethel Mae Hobbs; six brothers; and a sister.
The funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with the Rev. John Marconi officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at Mitchell Funeral Home, with a vigil service beginning at 7 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Richard, Jeremy, Joshua, Jake and Jim Dachs and Pat Quinn.
Kathryn O. Howard
JONESBORO -- Kathryn O. Howard, 72, of Jonesboro died Sunday, Dec. 4, at her residence. She was a homemaker.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Langford-Bookout Funeral Home of Jonesboro.
Roy Jr. Hubble
RIVERVALE -- Roy Jr. Hubble, 52, of Rivervale died Friday, Dec. 2, at his residence.
Born at Lepanto to Andrew Hubble and Ruby Redman, he was a factory worker and of the Baptist belief.
Survivors include 10 sisters, Florence Elder, Eva Hubble and Kimberly Boone, all of Caraway, Shirley Brown of Rivervale, Marie Nelson of Bowman, Barbara Brown and Mildred Smith, both of Lepanto, Verna Blocker of Jonesboro, Misty Byerly of Trumann and Tracy Miller of Blytheville; and two brothers, Harvey Hubble of Bondsville and Calvin Hubble of Caraway.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Potters Cemetery
at Lepanto, with Rick Kimery officiating. Wilson Funeral Home of Tyronza is in charge of arrangements.
Marvin Mays
WYNNE -- Marvin Mays, 91, of Wynne died Saturday at CrossRidge Community Hospital in Wynne.
He was born Oct. 3, 1914, in Jonesboro.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Author Garland Mays and Callie Gambell Mays; his wife, Cora Marie French Mays; a brother, Oliver Mays; two sisters, Edith Dixon and Ruth McKay; and a son, Jimmy Marvin Mays.
Mr. Mays was a graduate of Jonesboro High School. He joined Jonesboro First Baptist Church in 1928. He moved to Wynne in 1946 and joined Wynne Baptist Church the same year. Mr. Mays worked for Falls Equipment Company as service manager for 25 years. He became part owner and manager of Wynne Auto and Tractor Supply Company Inc. and retired in 1988. He was a member of the Woodmen of the World, AARP and Good Sams, Crowley's Ridge Runners. Mr. Mays enjoyed traveling, reading and gardening.
He is survived by his wife, Rubye Holmes Mays of the home; a son, Michael Mays of Wynne; a stepson, Billy Holmes of McCrory; a daughter-in-law, Linda Mays of Sacramento, California; a sister, Maybell Thurman of Memphis; 10 grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and one step-great-great-grandchild.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Kernodle Funeral Home of Wynne, with burial in Crosslawn Cemetery
at Wynne. Kernodle Funeral Home is in charge.
James Odell Prescott
JONESBORO -- James Odell Prescott, 98, died Sunday, Dec. 4, at St. Bernard's Medical Center in Jonesboro.
Born in Rosie, he was a resident of Jonesboro for the past 70 years and was formerly of Manila. He retired in 1972 as a farmer and had also enjoyed carpentry. He was of the Baptist belief.
He is survived by two sons, James Prescott and his wife Martha of Jonesboro, and Charles Prescott and his wife Ruth of Summerfield, Fla. He is also survived by six grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Ethel Prescott; his father, Zacharia Prescott; and his mother, Maude Eppe Anyon Prescott.
A celebration of his life will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday graveside in Philadelphia Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. today in the Orchid Room at Gregg Funeral Home.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are Mark Needham, Michael Prescott, Byron McCrackin, Joshua McCrackin, James Gann and Scott Crisp.
James Ray Truelove Jr.
LEPANTO -- James Ray Truelove Jr., 62, of Lepanto died Saturday, Dec. 3, at his residence in Lepanto.
He was retired from Kroger Stores and a Baptist.
Survivors include two sons, Kevin Truelove of Lepanto and James Truelove of Lepanto; six sisters, Patricia Smallwood, Joyce Holleman, Shirley Simmons, Nell Nelson, Janie Oates and Donna Tyler, all of Lepanto; one brother, Johnny Truelove of Lepanto; and two grandchildren.
Visitation is from 6-8 p.m. today at Murphy Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Murphy Funeral Home with Jim Duffel officiating.
Pallbearers will be John White, Eddie Allen, Harold Smallwood, Dennis Smith, Eugene Simmons and Danny Tucker.
Interment will be at Potter Memorial Cemetery.
Ann N. Wilson
WYNNE -- Ann N. Wilson, 56, of Wynne died Saturday, Dec. 3.
She was born at Missoula, Mont., the daughter of Donald R. and Avonne Walsh Norman.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Avonne Norman.
Mrs. Wilson is survived by her husband, the Rev. Robert Wilson; a son, Craig Wilson; a daughter, Leigh Ann Wolf; her father, Donald Norman; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Wynne Baptist Church. Interment will be at 3 p.m. in Memorial Park Cemetery
at Memphis.
Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. today at Thompson-Wilson Funeral Home of Wynne.
