Douglas K. Tompkins
Douglas K. Tompkins, 90, of Swifton, died April 9, 2006, at Jonesboro. Born Dec. 31, 1915, in Dayton, Ohio, he was the son of Earl and Effie Crouter Tompkins.

He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in World War II as a member of the 93rd AAA. He received the American Defense Service Ribbon, the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon with one Bronze Battle Star, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Battle Star, six overseas service bars, a service stripe and a Good Conduct Medal.

He was a graduate of Flint Business College and owned and operated Tompkins Ice Cream Company, which had many stores. He was a 32nd degree Mason, and an active member of the VFW, the Moose Lodge, the Shriners and the Ken-Rock Community Center, where he assisted with food distribution and senior citizen activities.

Survivors include his wife of almost 50 years, Lois Templeton Tompkins, whom he married Nov. 9, 1957; a son, David Tompkins, Swifton; a daughter, Judith Tompkins, Swifton; six grandchildren, Nathan Tompkins, Michael Wonzong, Jessica Tompkins, Deanna Shadden, Sarah Tompkins and David Andrew Tompkins.

Funeral is today at 10 a.m. at the Swifton Church of Christ with Michael Templeton officiating. Burial will be in Swifton cemetery under the direction of Jackson's Newport Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Paul Slagley, Bill Slagley, Ronnie Templeton, Robert Templeton, Allen Couch and Kris Ralston.

Allie R. Vaughn
Allie Vaughn, 87, of Jonesboro, died April 6, 2006, at Walnut Ridge Nursing and Rehab Center. Burial was Saturday in Oaklawn cemetery under the direction of Langford-Bookout Funeral Home of Jonesboro.

Billie Ray Willcoxon
Billie Ray Willcoxon, 82, of Walnut Ridge, formerly of Mena, died April 10, 2006, in Walnut Ridge.

Born April 18, 1923, in Greenville, Texas, he was the son of Hardy Carl and Jewel Wright Willcoxon. He was an electrician for Union Pacific Railroad. He was a member of the VFW, the American Legion, the DAV and First Christian Church.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Julia Anne Willcoxon; and a brother, Wallace Glen Willcoxon.

Survivors include his wife, Ethel Willcoxon; three sons, Carl Willcoxon and David Willcoxon, both of Mena, and Robert Willcoxon, Collinsville, Okla.; two daughters, Victoria Bollinger, Katy, Texas, and Merrilyn Smith, Wilmette, Ill.; a sister, Peggy Finnegan, Austin, Texas; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Graveside service is Thursday at 11 a.m. at Pinecrest Memorial Park in Mena with Bro. Gary Garrett officiating. Beasley-Wood Funeral Home of Mena has charge of arrangements.

Visitation is tonight from 6 until 8 at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.

Ruth Easley Branch
Ruth Easley Branch, 100, of Imboden, died June 5, 2006, at her home.

Born in Little Rock, she was the daughter of John Preston and Ruth Petranella Stephan Easley. She attended Central College in Conway and had lived in Louisville, Ky., Maricaibo, Venezuela, Senatobia, Miss., Memphis and Clinton. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church in Little Rock.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Edward Branch, whom she married Oct. 15, 1924.

Survivors include two sons, Jack Branch, Phoenix, and Robert Branch, Walls, Miss.; a daughter, Betty Waggoner, Imboden; seven grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside service is Friday at 2 p.m. at Oakland cemetery in Little Rock with Charles Stephan officiating. Bryan Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Visitation is Thursday evening from 6 to 8 at Bryan Funeral Home in Imboden.

Betty Haynes
Betty Haynes, 72, of House Springs, Mo., died May 12, 2006, at Des Peres Hospital in Des Peres, Mo.

She was born March 8, 1934, in Walnut Ridge.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Virgil Freeman Boone and Cora Wallin McKinney; and two brothers, Jay McKinney and Jimmy McKinney.

Survivors include her husband, Kenneth Haynes, whom she married Oct. 28, 1950, in Walnut Ridge; two sons, Kenney Haynes, High Ridge, Mo., and Danny Haynes, Fenton, Mo.; three daughters, Judi Paquet, High Ridge, and Janet Poor and Becky Powell, both of House Springs; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services were Tuesday, May 16, at Chapel Hill Mortuary in Cedar Hill, Mo. Burial was in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Cedar Hill.

Sonny Holder
Bobby J. "Sonny" Holder, 76, of Walnut Ridge, died June 1, 2006, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

A lifetime resident of Lawrence County, he was a retired farmer and was of the Free Will Baptist belief.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Wanda; a sister, Wanda Bowers; a grandchild; and a great-grandchild.

Survivors include his wife, Berniece Marsh Holder; two daughters, Susan Lyles, Paragould, and Sharon Camp, Maynard; three stepdaughters, Phyllis Cook, Williford, Pharis Davis, Hoxie, and Sherry Lynch, Jonesboro; a stepson, Cameron Martin, Walnut Ridge; two brothers, Weldon Holder and Bill Holder, both of Walnut Ridge; two sisters, Mardelle Manning, Little Rock, and Ann Mays, Harrisburg; 13 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

A visitation was held Saturday night, and a graveside service was Sunday at 2 p.m. at Lawrence Memorial Park with Charles Hendrix officiating. House-Gregg Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Johnny Dale Neal Sr.
Johnny Dale Neal Sr., 55, of Bono, died June 3, 2006, at St. Bernards in Jonesboro.

Born in Walnut Ridge, he lived in the Bono area most of his life. He was a truck driver for Tri-National Inc., and was a member of Victory General Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Roosevelt and Eva Emiline Boothe Neal.

Survivors include a son, Johnny Dale Neal Jr., Bono; a daughter, Jill Nash, Jonesboro; a brother, Bobby Neal, Sedgwick; three sisters, Catherine Mullins and Anna Adams, both of Jonesboro, and Geneva Evans, Batesville; and eight grandchildren.

Graveside service is today at 10 a.m. at Whitaker cemetery, near Walnut Ridge, with Rev. John Freeman officiating. Gregg Funeral Home of Jonesboro has charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers will be Shannon Neal, Steve Neal, Jamie Neal, Roy Adams, Bobby Adams and Steven Nash.

Ted R. Ring
Ted R. Ring, 70, of Walnut Ridge, died May 31, 2006, at his home.

Born May 29, 1936, at Eaton, he was a U.S. Army veteran and was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Walnut Ridge.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jessie Arthur and Elsie Allen Ring; and six brothers, Weldon Ring, Eldon Ring, Owen Ring, Hurshel D. Ring, Jay Ring and Sherman Ring.

Survivors include his wife, Joan Ring; a daughter, Kathy Ring Staton, Ravenden Springs; two stepdaughters, Sheila Baltz, Pocahontas, and Susan Whitehead, Sheridan; a stepson, Keith White, Paragould; two brothers, Loron Ring, Pocahontas, and Rev. Herman Ring, Alma; two sisters, Juanita Smith, Ellington, Mo., and Dorothy Scott, Poplar Bluff, Mo.; and nine grandchildren.

Funeral was Friday at 10 a.m. at First Assembly of God Church in Walnut Ridge with Revs. Dale Hughart and C.C. Hodges officiating. Burial was in Mt. Zion cemetery at Walcott under the direction of Cox-Waymon Funeral Home of Pocahontas.

Pallbearers were Ed Tannehill, Buford Eagan, Stan Jones, Wendell Tyler, Chris Pinkston and Slade Mooney.

Katherine Tennison
Katherine Tennison, 77, of Machesney Park, Ill., died June 5, 2006, at her home.

A homemaker, she had lived in Rockford, Ill., approximately 50 years and was a member of Oak Hill General Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Lum Tennison.

Survivors include a daughter, Patricia Norberg, Rockford; a son, Joel Tennison, Rockford; two sisters, Irene Vance, Walnut Ridge, and Madeline Prater, Paragould; two stepsisters, Rose George, Alicia, and Mary Joyce Vaughn, Mountain Home; a stepbrother, Joe Edward McQuay, Jonesboro; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Graveside service is Thursday at 11 a.m. at Strangers Home cemetery, near Alicia, with Marion Stringer and Royce Shandra officiating. House-Gregg Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Visitation is this evening from 5:30 to 8 at the funeral home.

Rachel Lee Boothe Warner
Rachel Lee Boothe Warner, 86, of Walnut Ridge, died June 2, 2006, at St. Bernards in Jonesboro.

Born Sept. 26, 1919, in Walnut Ridge, she was the daughter of Albert and Emma Fry Boothe. She was retired from the Swedish American Hospital in Illinois and was a member of Oak Hill Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Warner, on Feb. 28, 2004, whom she married March 16, 1950; a sister, Christine Johnson; and a brother, James Boothe.

Survivors include four nephews.

A visitation was held prior to a graveside service on Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Whittaker cemetery with Bro. Marion Stringer officiating. Bryan Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Family and friends served as pallbearers.

Ruth Easley Branch
Ruth Easley Branch, 100, of Imboden, died June 5, 2006, at her home.

Rainie M. Smith

Rainie Maureen Smith, 43, of Sherwood died Sept. 2, 2006.

She is survived by her son, Justin Smith; father John McFarlin and wife Sandra of Las Vegas, Nev.; mother Roberta Dupree of Romance; sisters Connie Fulbright, Jean Boyles, and Tracee Harral; brothers Derek McFarlin and Jeff Fulbright; and grandparents Mack and Alene Carger.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Sept. 6, at Christian Assembly of God. Interment was in the Pinecrest Memorial Park.

Arrangements were by Huson Funeral Home.
