Annette L. Fanning

Annette Louise Fanning, 78, died Saturday, Sept. 13, 2003.
She is survived by three sons, Jim Fanning of Little Rock, Carl Fanning of Bigelow, and David Fanning of England; one brother, Paul Racykowski of Louisville, Ky.; and one granddaughter.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, at Pinecrest Memorial Park, with Roller-Owens Funeral Home of North Little Rock in charge of arrangements.

Jerry Lyn Light
Jerry Lyn Light, 63, of Alicia, died Sept. 19, 2004, at the VA Medical Center in Little Rock, following a lengthy illness.

Born Oct. 5, 1940, in Alicia, he was a lifelong resident of Alicia. He served in the U.S. Air Force as an Airman First Class during the Vietnam War. He was a farmer and a member of the Alicia Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Cleo C. and Thelma E. Hartley Light; and a brother, Glenn Light.

Survivors include his wife, Connie Manning Light, whom he married June 21, 1964; a son, Jay Lynn Light, Alicia; a daughter, Tina Crow, Bono; seven brothers, Lavon "Heavy" Light, Alicia, James Lavell Light, Germantown, Tenn., Gary "Hop" Dale Light, Minturn, Ronnie "Frog" Light, Hoxie, Benny Light, Locust Grove, Jackie Light, Centerville, Tenn., and Charles Light, Dallas, Ga.; three sisters, Jone Baldridge, Tampa, Fla., Janet Staudinger, Winchester, and Sharon Goodwin, Powhatan; and two grandchildren, Brittnie Light and Justin Light.

Funeral is today at 2 p.m. in Bryan Chapel, with Bro. Monroe Baldwin officiating. Burial will be in Strangers Home cemetery under the direction of Bryan Funeral Home. Full military honors will be given by Promberger-Traw Veterans of Foreign War Post #4556 of Pocahontas.

Pallbearers will be David Light, Lavon Light, James Light, Gary Light, Ronnie Light, Benny Light, Jackie Light and Charles Light. Nephews will serve as honorary pallbearers.

A memorial has been started at First National Bank in Walnut Ridge.

Dorothy Stanfield

Dorothy Mildred Rayburn Stanfield, 93, of Little Rock, died March 28, 2003.
She was a lifelong Presbyterian and a dedicated member and former Elder of Pulaski Heights Presbyterian Church.

She is survived by three daughters, Carolyn S. Hudson of Tulsa, Linda Bennett of Sherwood, and Shelley Vickers of Little Rock; a sister, Virginia R. Gates of Springdale; a stepson, Dr. Wayne B. Stanfield Jr. of Newport; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
The funeral service was March 31, at Pulaski Heights Presbyterian Church with burial at Roselawn Memorial Park. Arrangements are by Roller-Chenal Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Pulaski Heights Presbyterian Church, 4401 Woodlawn St., Little Rock, Ark. 72205.

Jewell Golden

Jewell “Nanny” Golden, 83, of Bryant, died Saturday, March 29, 2003.
She was a retired supply clerk for the University of Arkansas Medical Center, and a member of the East End Assembly of God Church.
She is survived by two sons, Bobby Earl Golden of Sherwood, and Don Golden of Selma; one daughter, Betty Rowland of Bryant; one brother, William Griffin of California; one sister, Geneva Bobbitt of Dermott; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Funeral was Tuesday in the Bellaire Baptist Church. Griffin Funeral Service in McGehee was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in Dermott cemetery.

Jason Neill Abbott

Jason Neill Abbott, age 33, of Sherwood, died Thursday, March 27, 2003.
Jason served people as a Nationally Registered EMT and was active in the Little Rock Rugby Club. He was attached to the 4th Marine Division, 3rd Battalion, 23rd Marines and had just been called to active duty, to serve his country, in operation Iraqi Freedom.

He is survived by his mother, Catherine Riffle of Lees Summit, Mo.; father, Vernon Abbott of North Little Rock; grandparents, Bill and Betty Stone of Blue Springs, Mo.; great-grandmother, Orpah Baldwin of Independence, Mo.; two daughters, Catherine and Catelynn of North Little Rock; two sisters, Jennifer Hoppe of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Sheila Wilson of Savannah, Ga.

Funeral service, under the direction of Roller-Owens Funeral Home were Monday, March 31, at Cross Point Baptist Church. Interment was at Arkansas State Veterans cemetery.

Orvel Balch

Orvel Balch, 81, of Sherwood, died Wednesday.

Survivors: his wife, Gladys Balch; sons, James, Kendall, and L.G. Balch; daughters, Susie Phillips and Cathy Crowe; one sister; 18 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Graveside services: Monday at Balch-Johnston cemetery. Jackson’s Newport Funeral Home was in charge.

James E. “Jim” Bear

James E. Bear, age 77, of Sherwood, formerly of Del Rio, Texas and Austin, died March 26, 2003.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Joanne Beasley Bear; daughter, Linda Smith of North Little Rock; son, Jim Wyatt of North Little Rock, and son, Steven Bear of Ward; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Cecil Bear of New Waverly, Texas; a sister, Oleta Sandlin of Houston, Texas.

He was a 21 year retired Marine drill instructor & a lifelong patriot. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Del Rio, Texas.

The family asks that donations be made to Arkansas Research Center at UAMS, or church or Christian organization.

Memorial service was held March 28, at the Arkansas State Veterans cemetery, North Little Rock.

William Dawes Jr.

William Harvey Dawes Jr., 76, of Sherwood died March 24, 2003.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a Korean War veteran. He was of the Church of Christ faith.

Survivors include his wife, Ida Mae; sons, James Dawes of Clinton and Robert Dawes; daughters, Allca Peters of Sherwood and Paula Uekman of Conway; a sister, Norma Ruth Dawes; a brother, Ed Dowdey; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Graveside service was March 27 at the Arkansas State Veterans cemetery, North Little Rock. Griffin Leggett Rest Hills Funeral Home.

Opal Faye Miller
Opal Faye Miller, 88, of Hoxie, formerly of Portia, died Sept. 21, 2004, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

Born Jan. 9, 1916, in the Mount Zion community near Walnut Ridge, she was the daughter of Jessie and Effie Waddell Smith. She worked at the Jonathan Logan Garment Factory in Walnut Ridge for 28 years and was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Walnut Ridge.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Luther Miller; four brothers and three sisters.

Survivors include a brother, J.C. Smith, Walnut Ridge.

Funeral is Friday at 2 p.m. at Higginbotham Chapel, with Bob Smith and Stanley Smith officiating. Burial will be in Lawrence Memorial Park under the direction of Higginbotham Funeral Service.

Visitation is Thursday evening from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Narvel Winfrey

Narvel Winfrey, retired farmer, went to be with the Lord, September 29, 2003. He was the son of the late Claude & Dixie Winfrey. Born in Lonoke County April 18, 1924, he could hitch a mule to a plow at age seven. He joined the Navy during WW II and was a radioman aboard the USS Hollis a destroyer escort in the Pacific Fleet. His ship was present in Tokyo Bay during the signing of the peace treaty with Japan. He loved farming, especially cotton. He enjoyed traveling with his family and retired at 62 so he and his wife could travel even more, making one trip to Alaska in a van, selling it and flying home. Preceding him in death was his wife of 54 years, Billie Jean Wharton Winfrey and brother, Gene Winfrey. Survivors include his daughters, Stephanie Mason (Richard) of Sherwood and Amy Staggs (Will) of North Little Rock; sisters, Eathel Howard and Betty Evans of Lonoke and Moreen Stroud of Mayflower; grandchildren, Amanda Butler (Barry) of Conway and Brent Staggs (Josie) of North Little Rock; step-granddaughter, Monica Harmon of Sherwood, great-granddaughter, Savannah Staggs of North Little Rock and step-great-granddaughter, Mason Harmon of Sherwood. Also surviving is a special friend, Pat Beaver of Lonoke. He was a devoted husband and a good daddy.

Funeral Services were Wednesday, October 1, 2003 at Lonoke Baptist Church with interment in Weedon cemetery; arrangements by Boyd Funeral Home, Lonoke. Visitation was Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Weedon cemetery Fund; Lonoke Baptist Church or Brownsville Baptist Church.

Bonnie Ray Procop

Bonnie Raye Stacks Procop, 77, of Little Rock, died Sept. 24, 2003.

She is survived by a brother, Dalton Stacks of Plumerville; her husband of 57 years, Clarence; three sons, Don Procop, Ken Procop and Phil Procop; daughters, Betty Patterson of Little Rock, Janet Johnson of Southaven, Miss., and Patti White of Sherwood; 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren.
She was a Baptist. She worked for years in the mortgage banking business.
Services were Monday, Sept. 29.

Memorials can be made in her name to the New Outlook at St. Vincent's Infirmary, or to ACRC or CARTI.

Pauline Winter

Pauline "Polly" Winter, 85, of Sherwood died Sept. 25, 2003.
She was a member of Sylvan Hills United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her sons, Bob Winter of Sherwood and Richard Winter of Fairfax, Va.; a daughter, Kaye Couey of Rome, Ga.; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral was Thursday at Sylvan Hills UMC, with burial in Sylvania cemetery, Lonoke County.

Lucille Winemiller
Lucille Winemiller, 75, of Swifton, died Sept. 20, 2004, at Walnut Ridge.

Born at Swifton, she owned and operated Lucille's Florist at Tuckerman and was a member of Glenn Street Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Steve and Louise Weaver Smith; two brothers; and two sisters.

Survivors include her husband, R.W. "Junior" Winemiller; three sons, Rufus Winemiller III, Steve Winemiller and Tim Winemiller, all of Swifton; a daughter, Carolyn Brown, Swifton; seven sisters, Vernice Schanfish, Ohio, Retha Runsick, Jonesboro, Wanda New, Conway, Gladys Smith, Texas, Loretta Smith and Linda Black, both of Kansas, and Pat Smith, Virginia; seven grandchildren, Louis Brown Jr., Annissa Brown Wann, Meghan Winemiller, Amy Winemiller, Dillon Winemiller, Lindsey Winemiller and Andy Winemiller; and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral is today at 2 p.m. at Jackson's Newport Funeral Home chapel, with James Duvall officiating. Burial will be in Dowell's Chapel cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Bill Huffman, Bobby Holt, Marty Hutchinson, Nick Templeton, Ricky Midgett and Larry Hedrick.

Frances Aline Couch Anglin
Frances Aline Couch Anglin, 65, of Pocahontas, died Oct. 11, 2004, at her home.

A retired truck driver, she was of the Pentecostal faith and was a member of the New Beginning Family Worship Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Normal and Walter Couch; a sister; and four brothers.

Survivors include her husband, Bill Anglin; two daughters, Norma Young, Walnut Ridge, and Deanna Culpepper, Memphis; two sons, David Anglin, Pocahontas, and Tim Anglin, Houston, Texas; three sisters, Myrean Brown, Pocahontas, Demetra Bowman, Malvern, and Agnes Lindvall, Salem; two brothers, Larry Couch and Steve Couch, both of Hoxie; 14 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and her best friend, Audie Jarbo.

Visitation will be Thursday from 5-8 p.m. at House-Gregg Chapel. Funeral is Friday at 2 p.m. in the House-Gregg Chapel, with Rick Anglin officiating. Burial will be in Lawrence Memorial Park under the direction of House-Gregg Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Dwayne Anglin, Sonny Boy Anglin, Keith Bridges, Jerry Brown, Greg Coats, Jeremy Couch, Randy Rice and Richard Woodson. Honorary pallbearers will be Rick Anglin, Scooter Anglin, Scotty Anglin, Shane Anglin, Tony Anglin, Chris Coats, Jeff Couch, Johnny Couch and Todd Couch.

Betty Sue Wilkerson

Betty Sue (Bridges) Wilkerson, age 64, of Fort Smith, formerly of Vilonia, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday May 17, 2006.

She was born July 5, 1941, in Vilonia, AR, to the late Earl Lewis and Dovic Lilly Bridges.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Vernon Bridges; her sisters, June Cheatham and Lucille Bridges; and her parents.

Betty was a wonderful mother, grandmother, wife and friend. Before a long 13-month battle with cancer, she was employed by The Links at Fort Smith in Fort Smith, AR.

She is survived by husband, Frank Wilkerson of Fort Smith, AR: her daughters, Sandy Ropel and husband, Jim, of Neptune, NJ, Becky Tones and husband, Jeff, of Fort Smith, AR, Debbie Beck and husband, Craig, of Vilonia, AR, and Sherry Jones and husband, Kyle, of Sherwood, AR; one son, James Wilkerson and wife, Darlene, of Landisville, NJ; four brothers, Kenneth Bridges of Morrilton, AR; AC Bridges of Vilonia, AR; Dale Bridges of Martinville, AR; Ervin Bridges of Morrilton, AR; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
Visitation is Friday, May 19, from 6-8 p.m. at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home in Conway, AR.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 20, at 10 a.m. at the Roller-McNutt Chapel with Rev. Hardy Bell officiating. Interment will follow at 16th Section cemetery off Hwy. 5.

Family will gather at the home of Kyle and Sherry Jones of Sherwood after the graveside service.

Pallbearers will be Jeff Torres, Kyle Jones, Craig Beck, Jim Ropel, Joah Dinkel, Sr., and Lonnie Davis.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, May 22, at 2 p.m. at the Club House at The Links at Fort Smith.
