Miss Peggy J. Rayburn, 76, of Newark died Friday, May 28, 2010 at Batesville. She was born August 29, 1933. She was a clerk for Entergy for thirty-three years, and was a member of the First Baptist Church. Miss Rayburn enjoyed animals, especially dogs, cats, and cows. She is survived by one brother, Jimmy Rayburn of Newark; and one sister, Aline Rayburn of Newark.
Funeral services are 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church of Newark. Interment will be in Blue Springs Cemetery.
Mrs. Irene McFadden Hanley

Mrs. Irene (McFadden) Hanley, 98, of the McFadden Community of Hickory Ridge, Arkansas, died Wednesday, June 2, 2010. She was born December 27, 1911 at Eightmile, the daughter of E.E. and Sally Lee McFadden. Mrs. Hanley was a homemaker, and had previously managed Peacock Egg Processing Plant, and was a Post Mistress at McFadden. She was a member of the McFadden Church of Christ until it merged with the Beedeville Church of Christ. Mrs. Hanley was a member of the Home Demonstration Club, and enjoyed gardening, sewing, and picking pecans. She was known for raising beautiful flowers. Mrs. Hanley was preceded in death by her husband, Aubrey Samuel Hanley; one son, Raymond Jefferson Hanley; and one daughter, Sallye Josephine Hanley Luckner. She is survived by two sons, James Earl Hanley and wife Phyllis of Edgemont, Arkansas and Sam Lynn Hanley and wife Jan of Atkins, Arkansas; one daughter, Jackye Sue Hanley Peacock and husband Jim of Beedeville; one brother, B. T. McFadden of Tulsa, Oklahoma; one sister, Ermyl McFadden Pearle of McFadden Community; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren; great-great grandchildren, and great-great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services are 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Beedeville Church of Christ with Mr. Gary Elliott officiating. Interment will be in Eightmile Cemetery. Visitation is Friday, 6:00-7:30 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Chris Peacock, Shawn Peacock, Tony Hanley, Scott Hanley, Paul Hanley, Vance Luckner, Kenny Pearle, and Bart Gaskin. Honorary pallbearers will be Kevin Lynxwiler, Steve Reynolds, Norman Madden, Stan Madden, Kenneth Madden, and Hervey Madden.

Miss Polly Jackson, 83, of Greenbrier, formerly of McCrory, died Thursday. She was born November 14, 1926 at Tuckerman, the daughter of Benton S. and Ella Reid Jackson, who precede her in death. Miss Jackson was a farmer, and a member of the Worden Baptist Church. She is survived by two sisters, Liz Ballard and Geraldine Jackson, both of Greenbrier; one niece, Christine Stewart; a great-nephew, Jimmie Alan Stewart; and a great-niece, Laura McGee.
Funeral services are 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Jackson’s Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be in Dowell’s Chapel Cemetery. Visitation is Saturday, 1-service time.

Betty Cole Snedeker, 86, of Harrisburg departed this life Monday, June 7, 2010 at St Bernard Medical Center. She was born March 29, 1924 at Harrisburg, Arkansas the daughter of Roy and Earlene Brewer (Hall) Cole. Betty married Mr. Ray Raymond Snedeker on March 22, 1945. Betty enjoyed quilting, arts and crafts, yard sales, and spending time with family and friends. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, one brother, Marion Paul Cole, one nephew, Casey Cooper, one niece, Pauline Ward. She is survived by one niece, Brenda and husband Charles Reynolds of Jonesboro, three nephews: Kevin Ward, Keith Ward, Shannon Cooper. Funeral services are 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 9, 2010 at Jackson’s Harrisburg Funeral Home. Bro. Paul Peters will be officiating. Interment will be in Harrisburg Memorial Park. He was the son of Shauna Quinn and Kevin Crawford. Lillie Mae (Crawford) Scott, 80, a lifetime resident of Harrisburg departed this life Sunday, June 6, 2010 at Woodbriar Nursing Home. She was born February 26, 1930 at Mayfield, Kentucky, the daughter of Joseph Lee and Letha Crawford. Lillie married Mr. James Wesley Scott on December 29, 1945. Lillie was a homemaker and a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Harrisburg for many years. She enjoyed fishing, and collecting antiques. Lillie was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. James Wesley Scott, her parents: Joseph and Letha Crawford, a step-father, James Glasgow, a step-mother, Hattie Mae Crawford, five brothers, one half-brother, one sister, and one half-sister. She is survived by three sons: Charles J. Scott of Newport, Garl R. Scott of Harrisburg, and Harold J. Scott of Harrisburg, four daughters: Geneva L. Weaver of Harrisburg, Betty A. Chandler of Pine Bluff, Evelyn M. Grissom of Harrisburg, and Carol J. Morris of Pevely, MO, one half-brother and three half-sisters, and twelve grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren. Those serving as pallbearers are: Kevin Scott, Doug Fithen, Jason Lillard, Matthew Parker, James Grissom, and Ashley Redd. He was of the Baptist faith, and enjoyed yard work, and working with his flowers. Mr. Beck was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Ervin Beck. He is survived by two brothers, Roger Beck of Grubbs and Harold Beck of Tuckerman; one sister, Brenda Beck of Paris, Texas; and many family and friends. Ms. Phyllis Lou Bennett, 59, of Tuckerman died Wednesday, June 9, 2010. She was born October 18, 1950 at Newport, the daughter of William Nathan and Alma Lucille (Helms) Bennett. Ms. Bennett was owner and office manager of S&P Video Store in Newport several years, and was a member of the Tuckerman Church of Christ. She enjoyed collecting dolls, crafting, flowers and gardening. Her greatest love, however, was spending time with her grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Ms. Bennett was preceded in death by her parents; and one sister, Lisa Bennett. She is survived by one son, Scotty Crabb of Covington, Louisiana; two daughters, Stephanie Ethridge and husband Clint of Tuckerman and Erica Nagle and husband Eddie of Tuckerman; one special nephew, Matthew Bennett of Tuckerman; five grandchildren, Kye Billings, Keeley Billings, Cole Ethridge, Nate Ethridge, and Rowan Gates; two brothers, Randy Bennett and wife Sherilyn of Waldron, Arkansas and Nathan Bennett and wife Kim of Waldron, Arkansas; nieces and nephews, Tara Gates and husband John, Megan Bennett, Rani Bennett, and B.J. Dawson; great-nephews, Bryce and Colin Dawson; and many friends and family.

Mrs. Angela Jane (Rowlett) Davis

Mrs. Angela Jane (Rowlett) Davis, 44, of Brookland, Arkansas died Thursday, June 17, 2010. Angie was born August 22, 1965 to Warren and Virginia Rowlett, and was the youngest of the family of seven children. She attended Swifton schools, where she played basketball, participated in numerous social activities and excelled academically, graduating at the top of her class. She then attended Arkansas State University, and obtained her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from UAMS in 1988. When she began practicing pharmacy in Jonesboro, she met another young pharmacist, Greg Davis, who would become her husband. Angie and Greg built a beautiful home and she had a successful career, but her great joy and passion was helping Greg raise their two sons, Brent and Luke, with love, laughter and pride. Angie always made sure their lives were filled with joyous family activities, including camping out and vacations to Branson and the beach. She always joined her boys on carnival rides, in the pool and riding go-karts, for her greatest pleasure was to see them enjoying themselves and being happy. She loved watching Brent play basketball and golf, and playing Nintendo and watching videos with Luke. She was so very proud of them. Angie lived her life with a loving nature, great generosity and a mischievous sense of humor. If she could lend a helping hand, ease another’s burden or give needed encouragement and support, she did. When faced with tough times, she met them head on, with hope and determination. While her family was always her primary concern, Angie had many varied interests. She was a wonderful cook, and everyone looked forward to her delicious dishes and treats. She decorated her home beautifully, especially for the holidays. As a pharmacist, she was a hard-working and loyal employee and co-worker. Angie also had a strong faith and belief in God, which brought her comfort and hope even in difficult times. She was preceded in death by one sister, Joan Thompson. Angie leaves to cherish her memory, her husband of twenty-one years, Greg Davis of Brookland; two sons, Brent and Luke Davis of Brookland; her parents, Warren and Virginia (Stewart) Rowlett of Swifton; three brothers, Gary Rowlett of Little Rock, Stanley Rowlett of Jonesboro and Warren Rowlett, Jr. of Swifton; two sisters, Linda Casteel of Cabot, Beverly Rowlett of Little Rock and a host of family and friends.
Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at the Tuckerman Free Will Baptist Church with Bro. Randy Scott officiating. Interment will be in Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Jackson’s Newport Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Chris Rowlett, Jeff Rowlett, Scott Thompson, Keith Thompson, Andrew Rowlett and Deral Casteel.

Mr. Fred Gilbert
December 13, 1914 - June 22, 2010
Mr. Fred Gilbert, 95, of Tuckerman passed away June 22, 2010. He was born December 13,1914 at Tuckerman, the son of Ben and Viola (Yates) Gilbert, and married Miss Audrey Brand in April 1937. Mr. Gilbert was a 1935 graduate of Tuckerman High School, and a member of the Tuckerman Alumni Association. He played football and baseball for Tuckerman 1932-1935, then coached the high school football team during the 1945 season. Mr. Gilbert was co-founder of the Tuckerman Little League Baseball Program through the Tuckerman American Legion in 1953. He was a United States Army veteran, serving during World War II, and a charter member of American Legion 203 Earl Metheny Post. In March of 2000, he was awarded a certificate for fifty years of continuous membership and service to the American Legion. Mr. Gilbert served as post commander several times throughout his fifty years of service. He retired from Revere Copper and Brass Corporation of Newport in 1977, and was a member of the Tuckerman Church of Christ, where he taught Bible classes. Mr. Gilbert was preceded in death by his wife of seventy-one years, Audrey (Brand) Gilbert; parents; one sister, Leathel Henderson; and two brothers, Claude Wooten, and Irvin Gilbert. He is survived by one son, Morgan Gilbert of Tuckerman; one daughter, Jeanette Dickinson and husband Gerald of Paragould; two grandchildren, LeAnn Dickinson of Jonesboro and Bart Dickinson and wife Leslie of Little Rock; three great-grandchildren, Blake, Parker, and Graham Dickinson of Little Rock; and a special family friend, Ann Meeks of Walnut Ridge.
Funeral services are 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Jackson’s Newport Funeral Home Chapel with interment at Gracelawn Cemetery

Mr. Gerald D. Burgess, 64, of Tuckerman died Sunday, June 27, 2010 at Little Rock. He was born October 11, 1945 at Laporte, Indiana, the son of C.C. and Mable Lee (Williamson) Burgess. Mr. Burgess was owner and operator of Burgess Tire Company, starting alongside his father forty-five years ago. He was a United States Navy veteran, serving during the Vietnam era. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and spending time with his family. Mr. Burgess was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Sherri Lane; two brothers, John Hammett and Huey Hammett; and one sister, Aline Carpenter. He is survived by his wife, Linda Burgess; two sons, Jerry Burgess of Grubbs and Chris Lane of Tuckerman; three daughters, Lisa Lane of Newport, Amy Goble of Newport, and Dena Burgess Jones of Tuckerman; four sisters, JoAnne Cassidy of Batesville, Juanita House of San Diego, California, Kathi Burton of Little Rock, and Carolyn Fields of Batesville; and eight grandchildren, Brooke, Travis, Chasity, Tyler, Kaley, Harley, Paige, and Dylan.

Mr. Bill Hobbs
October 19, 1933 - June 28, 2010
Mr. Bill Hobbs, 76, of Batesville, died Monday, June 28, 2010. He was born October 19, 1933 at Cord, the son of James “Ed” Edgar and Mattie (Crigler) Hobbs. Mr. Hobbs received a Bachelor of Science in Education from Arkansas College in 1955. He taught at Augusta Public School and Bradford Public School before teaching twenty-four years at Newport Junior and Senior High School. Mr. Hobbs was selected to participate in the National Science Foundation Academic Year Institute in 1958-59, receiving a Master of Arts degree in biology in 1959 from the University of South Dakota. He retired in 1987 after thirty-one years of teaching. Mr. Hobbs was an active member of the First Freewill Baptist Church in Batesville, Arkansas. He is survived by his church family and many friends.
Services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the Batesville First Free Will Baptist Church. Interment will be in Charlotte Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jason Hall, Jasson Sturgeon, Tye Sturgeon, Linn Bachman, Dustin Bachman, Ronnie Crider, and Landon Dilday. Mrs. Lucy Corene (Bruton) Cooley Woodward, 91, of Clinton, died Friday, June 4, 2010. She was born September 29, 1919 at Alandale Community of Brinkley, the daughter of Albert and Mahala Jean (Fuller) Bruton. Mrs. Woodward was a homemaker, and had worked several years for Victor Metals and Remington Arms. She was a member of the Sanford Hill Baptist Church, and enjoyed talking, visiting, fishing, and camping out on the river with her children. Mrs. Woodward was preceded in death by her first husband, I.E. Cooley; her second husband, Erbin Wilson Woodward; one son, Blanchard Edward Cooley; one step-son, Billy Woodward; one daughter, Brandon Williams; one step-daughter, Shirley Garrison; and three brothers, Lester Bruton, David Bruton, and John Bruton. She is survived by one son, Richard “Butch” Cooley of Memphis, TN; one daughter, Jackie Hale and husband Jim of Shirley, Arkansas; two step-sons, Dennis Woodward of Hot Springs and Joe Woodward of Peoria, Iowa; four step-daughters, Laverne Thieme of Peoria, Illinois, Georgia Keil of Illinois, Elizabeth Harris of Hot Springs, and Phyllis Parrish of Illinois; one daughter-in-law, Fay Cooley; thirteen grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday at Jackson’s Newport Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, 1:00 p.m.- service time.
