Randy Mendoza
Randy Mendoza, 43, of Little Rock died Tuesday, June 19, 2001, in a local hospital. He was a truck driver for Eagle Construction and Environmental Services.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Woodlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home of Fort Smith.
He is survived by a companion, Barbara Canada of the home; two daughters, Miranda Mendoza of the home and Billie Jean Jones of Van Buren; his mother, Bernice Riggs of Spiro; three sisters, Melinda Mendoza of Fort Smith, LaDonna Weir of El Reno, Okla., and Delia Riggs of Spiro; six brothers, Frank, Cleve, Billy and Wayne Mendoza, all of Spiro, Tony Riggs of Hennessey, Okla., and Craig Riggs of Blytheville; one granddaughter, Tayler Jones of Van Buren; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Pallbearers will be Robert Mendoza, Richard Abbott, Gary Bullington, Richard Pierce, Archie Winters and Mark Biggers.
Evelyn E. Hagans
Evelyn E. Hagans, 89, of Fort Smith died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2005, in Fort Smith. She was a retired registered nurse, serving as the nursery supervisor for the Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D., a homemaker, a member of the Central Presbyterian Church, where she served in the Ladies Circle; she was a Project Compassion volunteer and a member of the Eastern Star for over 50 years. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Galen E. Meck, who died in 1961. She married
Daniel Steve Hagan in 1964 and lived in Killeen, Texas, for 30 years. After the death of Mr. Hagan, she moved to Fort Smith in 1979 and has been a resident until her death.
She is survived by her daughter, Gail M. Newlin and her husband, Ed, of Fort Smith; and a brother, Gerald A. Rogers of Rapid City, S.D.; two grandchildren, Susan Newlin and Chris Newlin and his wife, Beth; and two great-grandchildren, Kyle and Zackery Newlin.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 19, 2005, at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel with burial on Feb. 22, 2005, at Killeen Memorial Park in Killeen, Texas, under the direction of Harper-Talasek Funeral Home, with local arrangements under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
The family will greet friends at Edwards Funeral Home today from 5 to 7 p.m.

Sissie Mae Pettus
Sissie Mae Pettus, 86, has made her new home in heaven. She was born June 11, 1918, in Witcherville, and passed away Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2005, in Huntington. She was preceded in death by her husband, Linzy F. Pettus. Before going on to be with the Lord, Sissie Mae was a resident of Huntington. She was a homemaker and went to Huntington Assembly of God when she was able. Her life was a testimony of the love she had for God and her family.
Sissie Mae is survived by two sisters, Sarah Poston of Chandler, Ariz., and Velma Dean Roberts of Huntington; five children, Deloris Fuller of Midland, Barbara Fuller of Huntington, Shirley Shankle of Hartford, Jimmy Pettus of Huntington and Wanda Black of Mansfield; one stepdaughter, June Elmore of Mansfield; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 10 stepgrandchildren; and a host of stepgreat-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held at Huntington Assembly of God on Saturday, Feb. 19, 2005, at 2 p.m. under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood. Viewing will be today from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, where the family will receive family and friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Don Klentz, Kevin Fuller, Randy Fuller, Travis Pettus, Darrell Fuller and Ronnie Black. Honorary pallbearers will be Eric Shankle, Royce Fuller, Debbie Dake, Sheila Cook, Sherri Mendenhall, Kandis Howard, Angie Weaver and Sandy Sears.
Though she carried many titles, she was known as Nannie to all who had the pleasure of entering her home. She loved everybody, and everybody loved her. She will be greatly missed until we see her again in heaven.
Mary Elizabeth “Meb” Charles
Mary Elizabeth “Meb” Charles, 78, of Quitman passed away Thursday, Feb. 17, 2005, in Conway. She was a former administrative assistant for University of Arkansas at Fort Smith, formerly Westark Community College.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James T. “Jim” Charles; and a son, Lon Charles.
Memorial service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 19, 2005, at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel with cremain burial at Roselawn cemetery under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
She is survived by one daughter, Lee Vernon of Conway; two sons, Jon Charles of Kempner, Texas, and James Michael Charles of Quitman; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Family will visit with friends following the memorial service.

CHEROKEE VILLAGE — The Rev. C. Waymon Hollis, 68, of Cherokee Village died Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2005, in Salem. He was born in Paragould. He was a retired United Methodist minister who served in the North Arkansas Conference, was associate minister at Cherokee Village United Methodist Church, district superintendent of the Fort Smith and Forrest City districts, director of Conference on Ministry, chairman Board of Ordained Ministry, delegate to General and Jurisdictional Conference, board representative to United Methodist Women, trustee of Methodist Hospital in Memphis and Hendrix College in Conway, board member of Wesley Foundation, director Arkansas Christian Ashram and on the National Board of COSROW.
A memorial service was held Thursday at Cherokee Village United Methodist Church. Arrangements were under the direction of Heath Funeral Home of Hardy.
He is survived by his wife, Linda; a daughter, Kim Barton of Fort Wayne, Ind.; two sons, Chris Hollis of Bonham, Texas, and Curtis Hollis of Newport; a sister, Reba Boone of Paragould; two brothers, John Hollis of Paragould and Joel Hollis of Hagerstown, Md.; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Josie Childress
Josie Pauline Childress, 74, of Fort Smith died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2005, in Fort Smith. She was born Nov. 28, 1930, in Fort Smith. She was a retired bookkeeper, a member of Rye Hill Baptist Church and the widow of John Childress.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Putman Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Smith with burial at Steephill cemetery south of Fort Smith under the direction of Smith Mortuary of Charleston.
She is survived by three daughters, Darlene Madle of Harrison, Melba Flashpohler and Brenda Gilliam, both of Fort Smith; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Art, Danny, Harold and Jeff Childress, Randy Miller and Randy Gilliam.

Agnes Flurry
Agnes Howard Flurry, 91, of Fort Smith died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2005, in a local nursing home. She was a homemaker, of the Pentecostal faith and the widow of Clarence Flurry.
Funeral will be noon today at Putman Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Smith with burial at U.S. National cemetery in Fort Smith.
She is survived by two daughters, Mary Moore of Fort Smith and Hilda Tilson of Van Buren; four sons, Samuel and James Flurry, both of Van Buren, Daniel and John Flurry, both of Clarksville; two sisters, Marie Blake of Fort Smith and Beulah Bennett of Wichita, Kan.; 20 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be grandsons.

HUNTINGTON — Marie King, 83, of Huntington died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2005, in Hot Springs. She was a homemaker, a member of Huntington United Methodist Church and the widow of Ralph King.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at McConnell Funeral Home Chapel in Greenwood with burial at Hartford Memorial Park in Hartford.
She is survived by two daughters, Becky McKown of Huntington and Judy Michael of Hartford; a son, Jerry King of Mount Ida; six grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Billy, Newlin and Melvin Travis, David, Dennis and Carroll King.
Honorary pallbearers will be grandchildren and stepgrandchildren.
The body may be viewed 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home, where the family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

CLARKSVILLE — Benita Jane Daniel Murray, 57, of Clarksville died Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2005, in her home. She was a certified nurse’s aide.
Memorial service will be 10 a.m. today at Jamestown Assembly of God under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home of Clarksville. Burial will be private.
She is survived by three daughters, Lisa Saenz of McAllen, Texas, Audra Richardson of Clarksville and Michelle Vigorito of Redding, Calif.; three sons, Daniel Fetters of Fort Bragg, N.C., Dennis Fetters of Mountain View and Gary Murray of Ozark; her mother, Aletha Maxfield of Altus; two sisters, Pamela Burns of Harlingen, Texas, and Anita Daniel of Freer, Texas; two brothers, Carl Daniel of Edgefeld, S.C., and Daniel Daniel of Harlingen, Texas; and 14 grandchildren.

Lois Margaret Gifford, 71, of Van Buren, formerly of Roland, died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2005, in Fort Smith. She was born Aug. 30, 1933, in Muldrow. She was a homemaker, a Methodist and the widow of Donald Gifford.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. today at Trinity United Methodist Church in Muldrow with burial at U.S. National cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Agent Funeral home of Roland.
She is survived by a daughter, Tammy Cowan of Van Buren; a son, Danny Gifford of Portland, Maine; a brother, Ben Kirk of Fort Smith; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Bobby White
Bobby Eugene White, 61, of Fort Smith died Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2005, in his home. He was born March 24, 1943, in Tulsa. He was an Army veteran, a graduate of Lincoln High School and an employee of Whirlpool Corp.
Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Washington cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Rowell-Parish Mortuary of Fort Smith.
He is survived by two daughters, Angelina White of Houston and Monica Thomas of Fort Smith; four sons, Mark Jones of Van Buren, Jonah and Phillip Jones of Fort Smith, and Donald James of Oklahoma; a sister, Anita of Omaha, Neb.; and 22 grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Tracy and Ronald McClish, Aaron McKinney, Issac Poole, Brent Bryant and Darrel Taylor.
Quy Le
BENTONVILLE — Quy Van Le, 42, of Bentonville died Thursday, Feb. 16, 2005, in Springdale. He was born May 20, 1962, in Vientiane, Laos. He worked for Wal-mart.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Lewis Funeral Chapel in Fort Smith with burial at Roselawn cemetery in Fort Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Banlai; three daughters, Julena and Dalena Le, both of Bentonville, and Minah Le of Boise, Idaho; a son, Michael Le of Boise, Idaho; his parents, Minh Le and Hue Nguyen of Fort Smith; four sisters, Lienchi Vilayvanh of Fort Smith, Phet Capizzi of North Adelaide, Australia, Connie Nguyen and Vinh Sae, both of Richardson, Texas; and two brothers, Loc Nguyen of Fort Smith and Long Nguyen of Essex, Maine.
Rev. Orville Haley
The Rev. Orville Haley, 82, of Van Buren died Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2005, in a local hospital. He was a retired Baptist minister, served in the Army Air Force during World War II and was a short -erm missionary for the Southern Baptist Convention.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church in Van Buren with burial at U.S. National cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home.
He is survived by his wife, June; two sons, Allen Haley of Van Buren and David Haley of Birmingham, Ala.; and 10 grandchildren.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Andrew Moates
Andrew Nathaniel Moates, infant son of John and Vanessa Moates of Fort Smith, died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2005, in Fort Smith.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Community Bible Church with burial at Woodlawn Memorial Park under the directions of Edwards Funeral Home.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by two brothers, James and Ethan Moates, both of the home; and grandparents, William Moates Sr. and Shirley of Fort Smith and Gary and Amelia Hamm of Fort Smith.
