Carl Wilbanks Jr.
MULBERRY — Carl F. Wilbanks Jr., 81, of Mulberry died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2005, in Fort Smith. He was born Nov. 15, 1923, in Mulberry. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Mulberry, an Air force veteran of World War II, a 32nd degree Mason with Masonic Lodge No. 487 in Mulberry, a member of Western Arkansas Consistory, and the widower of Pat Wilbanks.
Graveside service and Masonic rites will be 10 a.m. Friday at New cemetery in Mulberry under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Alma.
He is survived by two daughters, Donna Reeves of Mulberry and Linda Rogers of Fort Smith; a son, Danny Wilbanks of Mulberry; a brother, Tilford Wilbanks of Van Buren; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Edith Marie Overbeck Chassels
Edith Marie Overbeck Chassels was born June 3, 1910, in St. Louis to Olga (Toegel) and Louis Overbeck. She grew up on Grove Street, attended Eliot School and was a graduate of Beaumont High School in St. Louis. She was a second-generation member of Friedens United Methodist Church in St. Louis.
Edith joined our Lord on Saturday, Feb. 5, 2005, while living in Pasco, Wash. Edith was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William Francis; sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and Melvin Caldwell; brother, Earl Overbeck. She is survived by her son, Larry William Chassels; daughter and son-in-law, Eileen and William Mandell; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Doris Overbeck; and nieces and nephews.
On Nov. 25, 1937 she married
William Francis Chassels. They had two children. During her long life, Edith enjoyed many church activities and community memberships. Edith created and maintained a warm, loving home where she excelled in many home arts, especially sewing and playing the piano. As a skilled seamstress, she designed and sewed ball gowns for debutantes in St. Louis, as well as sewing many dance recital costumes and family clothes. She assisted her husband with his annual tax preparation business and was clerical assistant for several companies in the St. Louis area.
Edith and Bill retired in Cherokee Village in Arkansas and later moved to St. Charles, Mo., where they resided in Jaycees Fairground Village and were members of St. John United Church of Christ. She moved to Washington in 1997.
Visitation will be at Baue Funeral Home, 620 Jefferson St. in St. Charles, Mo., on Saturday, Feb. 12, at 11 a.m., followed by a 1 p.m. service. A private burial will be at Marissa cemetery in Marissa, Ill. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Arthritis Foundation, 552 S. Thelma Wingfield
Thelma Wingfield, 81, of Charleston died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2005, in a local nursing home. She passed away peacefully at Greenhurst Nursing Home in Charleston. She was 81 years old, six days short of her 82nd birthday on Valentines Day. She was a founding member of Northside Baptist Church in Charleston and later became president and CEO of Quality Auto Parts Co. for 15 years. She was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Ralph R. Wingfield.
J. Elton Pennington and Vondal Davenport will officiate the service. The family wishes to express their thanks to the following people, Dr. Richard Hinkle and staff, Greenhurst Nursing Home and staff for helping make our mother comfortable in her passing.
Memorial service will be Friday, Feb. 11, at 2:30 p.m. at Northside Baptist Church in Charleston with burial of cremains at Garden of Memories in Charleston under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
She is survived by two sons, Robert Wingfield of Fort Smith and Richard Wingfield of San Diego; two sisters, Sylvia Merdith of Charleston and Hazel Dockery of Oklahoma City; and one grandchild, Rachel Wingfield of Fort Smith.
Pallbearers will be Rick Card, Mark Stringer, Johnny Warren, Rusty Satterfield, Dave Ezell, Brent Bumpers, Steve Vicary and Alex Catsavis.
Jimmy Don Odom
Jimmy Don Odom, 61, of Van Buren died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2005, in a local hospital. He was a member of First Church of God in Fort Smith, and was self-employed. He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Miller Odom.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Ocker Memorial Chapel in with burial at Dougan cemetery near Mulberry under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren
He is survived by a daughter, Shirley Cody of Van Buren; a son, Jimmy Odom of Roland; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Odom of Van Buren; two sisters, Joyce Snell of Van Buren and Norma Jean McAllister of Gravette; four brothers, Ricky, Jerry, Sherman and Benny Odom, all of Van Buren; six grandchildren; a friend, Dianna Sims of Huntington.
Pallbearers will be Keith and Shawn Hobson, Gaylon Miller, Donnie Dodd, Jerry Odom, Frankie Snell and Tom Lawson.
Khammany Song Viravongsa
Khammany Song Viravongsa, age 53, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 6, 2005, in her Fort Smith home.
As the third of eight children, Khammany was born on Feb. 1, 1952, in Vientiane, Laos. Her family moved to Thailand in 1976 and she married
in March of 1978. After giving birth to two children in Thailand, she and her young family traveled to Hawaii in 1980, and she had her third child in 1981. In 1982 her family made a permanent move for better job opportunities in Fort Smith. She had her fourth child in 1990. While maintaining her role as a loving wife and mother, she worked the second shift at Tyson Foods of Van Buren for 17 years. Following the arrival of her grandchildren, Khammany took on the full-time role of homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her parents, General Pa Praseuth and Judy Wong Sher. She is survived by devoted husband of 27 years, Somboun K. Viravongsa; two daughters, Aliby of the home and Anita of Fort Smith; two sons, Sitthideth of Van Buren and Avis of the home; three sisters, Mary Sher of San Francisco, Diana Praseuth of Los Angeles, and Teresa Vichensont of Killeen, Texas; four brothers, Paul Sher of Los Angeles, Jimmy Sher of Waldron, Joe and Sam Sher, both of Los Angeles; and seven grandchildren.
Viewing services will be held Thursday and Friday, Feb. 10-11, from 4 to 5 p.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 12, during 1 p.m. at Lewis Funeral Chapel. Pallbearers will be Sei Vilayvanh, Sai Vongvone, Nick Ouvanipheng, Souksavan Thongkham, Tony Sullivan and Bai Sayakhoumane.
Walter Dyer Patton Jr.
Walter Dyer Patton Jr., 85, of Alma died Monday, Feb. 7, 2005, in Alma. He was born July 10, 1919, in Dyer. He was a member of the Alma First Baptist Church, an Alma city councilman from 1978 to 2002, and an Army veteran of World War II serving 32 months in the Aleutian Islands; he attended Fort Smith Junior College, was a graduate of the University of Arkansas, and retired from Arkansas & Oklahoma Gas Co. Preceded in death by his parents, Walter Dyer and Lena Viola Humphrey Patton who were members of pioneer Crawford County families.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 11, 2005, at First Baptist Church in Alma with a private burial of cremains at Alma City cemetery under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Alma.
He is survived by a sister, Janette Patton Niven of Russellville; and a brother, J. Fred Patton of Fort Smith; a godson, James A. Garrett of Alma; two nieces, Ann Patton Dawson of Fort Smith and Jo Niven Burke of Hot Springs Village; four nephews, Jim Niven of Richardson, Texas, Dick Niven of Dardanelle, Charles Niven of Flint, Mich., and Jim Patton of Pinellas Park, Fla.

Walter Thomas Mott
Walter Thomas Mott, 72, of Van Buren died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2005, in a local hospital. He was a member of Lee Creek Baptist Church, an Army veteran of the Korean War, and was a truck driver for Safeway Foods.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. today at Ocker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Van Buren with cremation to follow the service.
He is survived by his wife, Maxine Patterson Mott of the home; three daughters, Kathy Hyde and Susie Adkins, both of Van Buren, and Sheila Dixon of Seminole, Texas; three sons, Larry Mott of Tacoma, Wash., David Mulkey of Lawrenceville, Ga., and Thomas Mulkey of McKinney, Texas; a sister, Vina Mae Ellis of Jasper, Texas; two brothers, Travis Mott of Jasper, Texas, and Billy Mott of Quittiequay, Texas; 15 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Frank “Sonny” Schoeppe
Frank “Sonny” Schoeppe, 83, of Fort Smith passed away Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2005, in Fort Smith. He was a retired cutter for Weldon Williams & Lick. He was a member of Grand Avenue Baptist Church and the Adult Ten Sunday school class.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 11, 2005, at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Woodlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Frances; one daughter, Lynda Auten and husband Avery of Rogers; one son, Phillip Schoeppe and wife Catherine of Bella Vista; two sisters, Helen Swaim and husband Don of Fort Smith and Irene Smith and husband Bill of Fort Worth, Texas; one brother, Charles Schoeppe and wife Dean of Wichita Falls, Texas; five grandchildren, Angela Edwards and husband Mike, Trey Auten and wife Lisa, Kirk Auten and wife Lesa, Eric Schoeppe and wife Natalie, Caleb Schoeppe and fiancee Abby; seven great-grandchildren, Tyler Auten, Mackenzie Auten, Emily Auten, Crystal Edwards, Faith Edwards, Carson Schoeppe and Tyler Schoeppe.
Pallbearers will be Trey Auten, Kirk Auten, Eric Schoeppe, Caleb Schoeppe, Mike Edwards and Richard Bullard.

PARIS — Mary Ann Schluterman Komp, 81, of Paris died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2005. She was a homemaker, a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church and St. Benedict Mother’s Society, and was the widow of Henry Komp Jr.
Rosary will be 7:30 p.m. today at St. Benedict Catholic Church in Subiaco.
Mass will be 10 a.m. Friday at St. Benedict Catholic Church in Subiaco with burial at St. Benedict cemetery under the direction of Roller Funeral Home of Paris.
She is survived by a daughter, Mary McCombs of Subiaco; two sons, James Komp of Subiaco and Jackie Komp of Paris; a sister, Margaret Binz of Paris; two brothers, Benard Schluterman of Paris and Eugene Schulterman of Subiaco; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Heath, Jason and Chad Komp, Eric McComb, Richard Del Soto and David Leonard.
Honorary pallbearers will be godchildren.
Rev. Dr. Henry Tyler
The Rev. Dr. Henry Hart Tyler, 83, of Fort Smith died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2005, in Fort Smith. He was born May 18, 1921, in Elk City, Okla. He was a retired Disciples of Christ minister, he served as pastor to churches in Oklahoma, Texas, Arkansas and Missouri and he served at First Christian Church in Fort Smith from 1961 to 1970. He graduated from Central High School in Oklahoma City in 1939, and from Phillips University in Enid, Okla., in 1943, received a Master of Divinity degree from Yale Divinity School in 1945 and was awarded a Doctor of Divinity degree from Phillips University in 1970, he ministered to prisoners in the Federal Penitentiary in Springfield, Mo., served as a Navy Chaplain during World War II and the Korean War; he was attached to the Marines and SeaBee units.
Memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. today at First Christian Church. Private burial will be at the U.S. National cemetery under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; a son, Stephen of Fort Smith; and one grandchild.
The family will receive friends in the parlor of First Christian Church following the memorial service.

GREENWOOD — Bill Hunt, 74, of Greenwood died Monday, Feb. 7, 2005, in Greenwood. He was retired from Contel and a Navy veteran of the Korean War.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at McConnell Funeral Home Chapel in Greenwood with burial at Liberty cemetery in Greenwood.
He is survived by his wife, Pat; four daughters, Carol and Sandra Hunt, and Debbie Keyes, all of Fort Smith, and Linda Pennix of Mulberry; two sons, Bob Hunt of Ozark and David Hunt of Russellville; a sister, Helen Litchford of Sarasota, Fla.; 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
The body may be viewed 1 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home, where the family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
Lucky May
Lucky Juanita May, 73, of Fort Smith died Monday, Feb. 7, 2005, in a local hospital. She was born Feb. 13, 1931, in Clarksville. She was a member of Mission Point Baptist Church where she was a Sunday school member, co-director of prayer service and director of Candle Light service, and the widow of Felix May Sr.
Funeral will be 11:30 a.m. Friday at St. James Missionary Baptist Church with burial at U.S. National cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Rowell-Parish Mortuary of Fort Smith.
She is survived by three daughters, Virginia Hinkle, Anna Jones and Marilyn Thompson, all of Fort Smith; a son, William May of Fort Smith; a brother, George Perry of Clarksville; 22 grandchildren; and 53 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be grandsons.
The family will visit with friends at 4315 Victoria in Fort Smith.

LAMAR — Sandra Lindsey, 50, of Lamar died Monday, Feb. 7, 2005, in her home. She was a retired nurse.
Memorial service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Hardwicke Funeral Home Chapel in Clarksville.
She is survived by two daughters, Lisa Ratledge of Cleveland and Melissa Jones of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and two grandchildren.
