Henry Hart Tyler
The Rev. Dr. Henry Hart Tyler, 83, retired Disciples of Christ minister, died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2005, in Fort Smith. He was born May 18, 1921, to Mary Woodman and Henry Hart Tyler of Elk City, Okla. In his ministry, he served as pastor to churches in Oklahoma, Texas, Arkansas and Missouri. He had served First Christian Church in Fort Smith from 1961 to 1970. He graduated from Central High School in Oklahoma City in 1939, and from Phillips University in Enid, Okla., in 1943. He received a Master of Divinity degree from Yale Divinity School in 1945 and was awarded a Doctor of Divinity degree from Phillips University in 1970.
He was an influential religious and civic leader. The Rev. Tyler lived a full, rewarding life, devoting countless hours to the various manifestations of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and the Ecumenical church. He had a real passion for human rights and social justice for all people. During his retirement years he ministered to prisoners in the Federal Penitentiary in Springfield, Mo. He served as a Navy Chaplain during World War II and the Korean War; he was attached to the Marines and SeaBee units.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary Jane Olney Tyler; a son and his wife, Stephen and Karen, and grandson, Sam, all of Fort Smith; nephews, Mark and Henry Tyler of Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Dean Woodman Tyler.
Memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 10, 2005, at First Christian Church with the Rev. Randy Jay officiating, assisted by the Rev. Howard Marshall and the Rev. Jack Pollard. Private interment will be held at the U.S. National cemetery under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends in the parlor of First Christian Church following the memorial service.

Annie Kathaleen McKeown
Annie Kathaleen McKeown, 89, of Clarksville died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2005, in Clarksville. She was an office manager and of the Baptist faith. She was the widow of Byron Guy Piersol and Hilton Grady McKeown. She enjoyed reading, visiting, attending auctions, and collecting of collectibles. Preceded in death by her parents, Edward Charles and Elizabeth O’Nowery Schaad; one son, Frank Edward Piersol; two sisters, Virginia Elizabeth Heischman and Dora Joette LeMaster; three brothers, Johnathan Stockman Schaad, Edward Ray Schaad, and Robert Schonblom Schaad.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. today at Roller-Cox Funeral Home Chapel in Clarksville with the Rev. Amos Pledger officiating and burial at Shady Grove cemetery.
She is survived by two sons, Byron Milton Piersol and Hilton Grady McKeown Jr., both of Clarksville; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Robert (Hope) Schaad of West Virginia; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Jim Campbell, Jim Boy Sherrill, Lonnie Wilson, Randy Baskin, John Clark Jr. and J.C. Clark. Honorary pallbearers will be John Clark Sr., DeWayne and Rheba Crosley, Bobbie Ann Campbell, Freddie Lindsey, Harold G. “Sonny” Barron and David Clayborn.
Ellen Stinnett
MENA — Ellen Lenore Stinnett, 64, of Mena died Friday, Feb. 4, 2005, in Mena. She was born May 4, 1940, in Bull Creek in the San Williams Mountains of southeastern Oklahoma. She was a caregiver, of the Protestant faith, and a 25-year member of the Eagles.
A memorial service will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Beasley-Wood Funeral Home Chapel in Mena. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Feb. 19 at Mill City, Ore.
She is survived by a daughter, Teressa Brooks of Stayton, Ore.; two sisters, Delma Craig and Floye McCary, both of Mena; a brother, Gary Stinnett of Portland, Ore.; four grandchildren; and a companion, Craig Halitzka of Mena.
Don Smith Jr.
Don Paul “Donny” Smith Jr., 37, of Van Buren died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2005, in Little Rock. He was an electrician for the Arkansas Department of Correction.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Gill cemetery Pavilion in Van Buren under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren.
He is survived by one son, Patrick Griffin of Hackett; his mother and stepfather, Judy and Mike Cook of Van Buren; his father and stepmother, Don and Jolene Smith of Van Buren; one brother, Virgil Smith of Pocola; two halfsisters, Nichole Melvin of Arlington, Texas, and Danyelle Melvin of Van Buren; and maternal grandparents, Faye and Virgil Russell of Van Buren.
Pallbearers will be Donnie Smith, Forrest Russell, Craig and Casey McDowell, Joe Rose and Carl Greenwood.

Bennie Ross
CLARKSVILLE — Bennie D. Ross, 81, of Clarksville died Monday, Feb. 7, 2005, in Clarksville. He was born March 7, 1923, in Coal Hill. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of Cabin Creek Baptist Church; he was in the heavy equipment operator business and a dump truck driver. He was the widower of Lorene Ross.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Hardwicke Funeral Home Chapel in Clarksville with burial at West Mount Zion cemetery in Hartman.
He is survived by a daughter, Betty Warren of Clarksville; a brother, Bud Ross of Clarksville; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one stepgreat-grandchild.
Pallbearers will be Rusty Hardgrave, Ronnie Mefford, Wes Kendrick, David Hanley, Dene Feikema and Bud Morrow.

MENA — Lois E. McNutt Bradbury, 86, of Mena, formerly of Bentonville, died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2005, in Mena. She was born March 16, 1918, in Cove. She was a homemaker, of the Baptist faith and the widow of John Bradbury.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Pleasant Grove cemetery in Cove under the direction of Hall Funeral Service of Mena.
She is survived by a brother, Thomas McNutt Sr. of Rockport, Texas.
Betty Koch
CENTRAL CITY — Betty Jo Koch, 66, of Central City died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2005, in Central City. She was a homemaker, co-owner with her husband of Koch Auto, a member of Christ the King Catholic Church, and served on the Presentation Circle.
Rosary will be at 7:30 p.m. today at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel.
Mass will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Christ the King Catholic Church with burial at Holy Cross cemetery.
She is survived by her husband, Dennis; one daughter, Kym Koch-Thompson of Oklahoma City; three sons, Dennis Koch Jr. of Prairie View, Mark Koch of Fort Smith, and Jerry Koch of Paris; two sisters, Ellie Pilaar of Prescott, Ariz., and Marge Olmsted of Suwanee, Ga.; one brother, Wayne Powers of Derby, Kan.; and 15 grandchildren.

UNIONTOWN — Nelda Ruth Martin, 72, of Uniontown died Monday, Feb. 7, 2005, in a local hospital. She was retired from environmental services at St. Edward Mercy Medical Center.

She is survived by her husband, Boyce; a daughter, Karen Neal of Uniontown; a son, Boyce Martin Jr. of Fort Smith; a sister, Betty Martin of Yukon, Okla.; a brother, Paul Pennington of Benton; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Mable Johnson
Mable Ritchie Johnson, 88, of Fort Smith, formerly of Fayetteville, died Monday, Feb. 7, 2005. She was born March 7, 1916, in Denison, Texas. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Springdale, retired from McIlroy Bank after many years, and the widow of Gordon Johnson.
Funeral will be 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Moore’s Chapel in Fayetteville with burial at Fairview Memorial Gardens.
She is survived by three daughters, Beverly Taylor of Rogers, Joann Hall of Fayetteville, and Mary Grant of Springdale; two sons, Jimmy Johnson of Tulsa and Bob Johnson of Fort Smith; 15 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
The body may be viewed all day today and until 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
After the service, family will gather at the Church of Christ fellowship room at 764 W. North St. in Fayetteville.
Jimmy Odom
Jimmy Don Odom, 61, of Van Buren died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2005, in a local hospital. He was a member of First Church of God in Fort Smith, was self-employed, and was the widower of Shirley Odom.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Ocker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Van Buren with burial at Dougan cemetery near Mulberry.
He is survived by a daughter, Shirley Cody of Van Buren; a son, Jimmy Odom of Roland; his parents, Clifford and Nannie Odom of Van Buren; two sisters, Joyce Snell of Van Buren and Norma McAllister of Gravette; four brothers, Ricky, Jerry, Sherman and Benny Odom, all of Van Buren; and six grandchildren.

John Bell
John S. Bell of Van Buren died on Monday, Feb. 7, 2005, in Fort Smith. He was born Feb. 24, 1913, in Crawford County. He was a member of the Kibler United Methodist Church, a World War II veteran and an educator. He attended Arkansas Tech University; Arkansas State Teachers College, where he earned a bachelors of education degree; and the University of Arkansas where he obtained a masters of education degree. He taught at Post Oak and 55 School, served as principal and teacher for the Kibler School System, and as principal and sixth-grade teacher at Sophia Myer Elementary. He worked for the Army and served at Fort Chaffee as an education officer; and was director of education at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, where he served for 20 years and upon retirement was presented with the Department of the Air Force Civilian Meritorious Service Medal for outstanding services rendered. He was the widower of Clarine Bell.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Ocker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Van Buren, with burial at Gracelawn cemetery in Van Buren.
He is survived by his three daughters, Charlotte Reed of Portland, Ore., Mary Johnson of Van Buren, and Judith Campbell of Waco, Texas; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Gene Cureton
HACKETT— Gene Leon “G.L.” Cureton, 77, of Hackett, formerly of Cove, died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2005, in Little Rock. He was born Aug. 29, 1927, in Cove. He was a retired Air Force veteran serving in the Korean War, and was a member of Emmanuel Missionary Baptist Church in Cove, the Lonnie Irvin Daylight Masonic Lodge No. 1309, the AF&AM for 50 years and the VFW Post No. 6527 in Greenwood. He owned and operated Cureton Rentals in Cove, subcontracted for Weyerhauser in Oklahoma as a tree planter, and was a heating and air conditioning systems installer for Marco in San Antonio.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Emmanuel Missionary Baptist Church in Cove with burial at Pleasant Grove cemetery including Masonic services and military honors by the Air Force under the direction of Beasley-Wood Funeral Home of Mena.
He is survived by a daughter, Carol Cearley of Hackett; a son, George Cureton of Hackett; a sister, Francine Lynn of Mena; three brothers, Alfred Cureton of Zwolle, La., George Cureton and Gary Smothers, both of Sun City, Fla.; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Walter Mott
Walter Thomas Mott, 72, of Van Buren died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2005, in a local hospital. He was a member of Lee Creek Baptist Church, an Army veteran of the Korean War, and was a truck driver for Safeway Foods.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Ocker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Van Buren with cremation to follow the service.
He is survived by his wife, Maxine; three daughters, Kathy Hyde and Susie Adkins, both of Van Buren, and Sheila Dixon of Seminole, Texas; three sons, Larry Mott of Tacoma, Wash., David Mulkey of Lawrenceville, Ga., and Thomas Mulkey of McKinney, Texas; a sister, Vina Ellis of Jasper, Texas; two brothers, Travis Mott of Jasper, Texas, and Billy Mott of Quittiequay, Texas; 15 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Walter Patton Jr.
ALMA — Walter Dyer Patton Jr., 85, of Alma died Monday, Feb. 7, 2005, in Alma. He was born July 10, 1919, in Dyer. He was a member of the Alma First Baptist Church, an Alma city councilman from 1978 to 2002, and an Army veteran of World War II serving 32 months in the Aleutian Islands; he attended Fort Smith Junior College, was a graduate of the University of Arkansas, and retired from Arkansas & Oklahoma Gas Co.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church in Alma with a private burial of cremains at Alma City cemetery under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Alma.
He is survived by a sister, Janette Niven of Russellville; and a brother, J. Fred Patton of Fort Smith.
