Preston Skaggs
Preston B. Skaggs, 76, of Fort Smith died Thursday, Nov. 4, 2004, in Rogers. He was born Nov. 27, 1927, in Datto. He served 21 years in the Army and was a World War II, Korean War and Vietname War veteran. He was board member, treasurer, and founder of Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 467, a lifetime member of DVA and a member of Grand Avenue Baptist Church.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel with burial at U.S. National cemetery in Fort Smith with full military honors.
He is survived by his wife, Lois, three daughters, Linda Skaggs and Monica Weyer, both of Rogers and Helen Moore of Newton, Texas; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Waldo Fisher, Dub Shankle, Vernie Thornburg and members of his Sunday school class.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 467.
The family will visit with friends from 2 to 4 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 467, P.O. Box 10431, Fort Smith, AR 72917.

Mary Christian
Mary N. Christian, 62, of Fort Smith died Friday, Nov. 5, 2004, in a Fort Smith hospital. She was retired from the Sebastian County sheriff’s office and was former owner of Jim and Mary’s Restaurant.
Funeral will be 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at McConnell Funeral Home Chapel in Greenwood with burial at U.S. National cemetery in Fort Smith.
She is survived by her husband, James; a daughter, Jami Marx of Fort Smith; two sisters, Darla Goforth of Greenwood and Pat Hampton of Jenny Lind; and one grandchild.
Pallbearers will be the Sebastian County sheriff’s office honor guard.
The body may be viewed from 1 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Mary Tyler
Mary Ann Tyler, 63, of Van Buren died Thursday, Nov. 4, 2004, in a local hospital. She was a retired telephone operator for Southwestern Bell, a member of City Heights Methodist Church, the American Legion Auxiliary and Order of the Eastern Star.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home Chapel. The body will be cremated.
She is survived by a daughter, Rebekah Van Horn of Van Buren; two sons, David Trotter of Midland and Bryan Tyler of Van Buren; a sister, Dorothy Thomas of Mesquite, Texas; two brothers, W.R. Young of Bullhead City, Ariz., and James Young of Fort Smith; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Jaunita Lea Carney
Jaunita Lea Carney, 78, of Van Buren died Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2004, in a local nursing home. She was a retired caregiver for Area Agency on Aging and a member of Bethlehem Freewill Baptist Church in Van Buren. She is preceded in death by her husband, William E. “Gene” Carney Sr.; and her twin, Onieta Jaurqui.
She is survived by three daughters, Sharon Hays, Betty Franklin and Jo Ann Boster, all of Van Buren; one son, William E. “Bill” Carney Jr. of Fort Smith; seven grandchildren, Ronnie Ashley of Hot Springs, Clarissa Mays of Arkadelphia, Jordain Carney of Greenwood, Alisa Hays, Randy Ashley, Brad Boster, Brent Boster, all of Van Buren; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Gill cemetery in Van Buren under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons and great-grandsons.
Memorial contributions may be made to Bethlehem Freewill Baptist Church Building Fund, 2721 Alma Blvd., Van Buren, AR 72956.

James Henry Fisk
James Henry Fisk, 81, a native of Baxter County, passed away Thursday, Nov. 4. 2004, in Fort Smith. He was born March 2, 1923, to the late James Evin and Mary Elizabeth “Tucker” Fisk of the Monkey Run community. The family moved to Mountain Home in 1924 where he later attended Mountain Home High School. He was an original member of the Mountain Home High School Bomber football team in 1939. His senior year was cut short when he volunteered in 1942 for the U.S. Air Force. He was attached to the infantry as a medic and served in Saipan.
After the war, he returned to Mountain Home, where he opened a Western Auto Store in Yellville. After selling the business to Lloyd Fisk, his brother, he moved to Chicago, where he first ventured into the car business. From Chicago, he moved to the West Coast, where he owned and operated several car agencies in the Los Angeles area for several decades. An avid golfer, Jim served as chairman of the Los Angeles Open and played in the tournament for 16 years and was friends with many golfing greats. When his health failed, he moved to Fort Smith to be near his son. He was preceded in death by: sisters, Avis Fisk Brainerd and Clema Fisk Alley; and a brother, Lloyd Fisk.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 7 at Pilgrims Rest Baptist Church with the Rev. Gene Carson officiating. Burial will be at Gassville cemetery under the direction of Roller Funeral Home of Mountain Home.
He is survived by his former wife, Rebecca Roberts Fisk of Fort Smith; a son, James Roy Fisk of Fort Smith; sister-in-law, Madge Torkelson of Fort Smith; nieces, Peggy McCracken of Mountain Home, Jeannie Alley of Dallas, Judy Walls of Fort Smith, Patsy Stubblefield of San Antonio and Mara Fisk of Little Rock; and several great-nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Leon Tucker, Guy King, Jim Walls, Bill McCracken, Bobby Carson and Ken Trammel.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Roller Funeral Home in Mountain Home.

Robert Lee Core
Robert Lee Core, 75, of Conway died Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2004, in Conway. He was born July 10, 1929, in Branch to Horace Core and Hattie Herring Core. He was retired from Shell Oil Co. An Army veteran of the Korean War, a member of the Paris VFW, loved coaching little league baseball when living in California and was a member of Cornerstone Bible Church in Conway.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 8, 2004 at Caulksville Cumberland Presbyterian Church with burial at Caulksville cemetery under the direction of Brotherton Brothers Funeral Home of Paris. Officiating the service will be the Rev. J.W. Glidewell.
He is survived by his wife, Alene Roland Core of the home; two daughters, Kathy Schultz of Conway and Renee Hudson of Virginia Beach, Va.; three sons, Mike Core of Ventura, Calif., Chris Core of Springdale and Steve Wagner of Ventura, Calif.; five sisters, Marie Martin of Fort Smith, Louise Piestrack of Aberdeen, N.C., Mary Campbell of Camillio, Calif., Eleanor Horne of Ventura, Calif., and Anna Mae McCormick of Stillwater, Okla.; three brothers, Pat Core of Scranton, Dan Ray Core of Caulksville, and J.H. Core of Greenwood; and three grandchildren, Alisha Hudson, Brandon Wagner and Camille Wagner.
Pallbearers will be Greg Cox, Kendall, Steve and Rick Core, Mickey Martin and Marty Lowrey.
The family will visit with friends Sunday, Nov. 7, 2004, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Brotherton Brothers Funeral Home in Paris.

Reba June Krajewski
Reba June Krajewski, 83, of Carrollton, Texas, formerly of Fort Smith, passed away Thursday, Nov. 4, 2004, in Dallas. She was retired from Hancock Fabrics and a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church. She has now joined the true love of her life, her husband, Victor.
She is survived by two daughters, Vicki Blevins and her husband, Larry, and Judy Meador and her husband, Sandy, all of Dallas; three grandchildren, Cindy Diamantaras, Mindy May and Dusty Meador; and three great-grandchildren; Evan and Nicholas Diamantaras and Kaitlyn May.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Paul United Methodist Church with burial at Barling City cemetery under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home of Fort Smith.
The family will visit with friends Sunday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul United Methodist Church, 4100 Grand Ave., Fort Smith, AR 72904.

Ruth Garner
Ruth E. Garner, 74, of Fort Smith died Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2004. She was retired from Planters, a member of First Church of God, American Legion Auxiliary and military Order of the Purple Heart and the widow of Paul Garner Sr.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Monday at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel with burial at U.S. National cemetery in Fort Smith.
She is survived by a daughter, Rhonda Sisk of Fort Smith; a son, Allen Garner of Fort Smith; two sisters, Mary McDaniel of Tuscaloosa, Ala. and Peggy Murphy of Charleston, S.C.; a brother, James Skelton of Albuquerque, N.M.; 18 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Shane and Carl Cleveland, P.J. Garner, Jim Sisk, Greg Everly and Eric Johnson.
The family will visit with friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

David Parker
MENA — David Parker, 33, of Mena, formerly of Bakersfield, Calif., died Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2004, in Scott County. He was born May 5, 1971, in Bakersfield, Calif. He was a truck driver.
The body was sent for cremation under the direction of Hall Funeral Service of Mena. Memorial services will be 2 p.m. today at the home.
He is survived by two daughters, Dixie Jones and Avayla Parker; a son, Steven Parker; two sisters, Vera Hernandez and Debbie Simpson; four brothers, Ricky and David Brown, John Smith and Preston Parker; and his stepmother, Shirley Parker.

Christine Nevarre
Christine Lynn Nevarre, 39, of Fort Smith died Thursday, Nov. 4, 2004, in Fort Smith. She was a former employee of New Haven Nursing Home and was of the Pentecostal faith.
Memorial service will be 10 a.m. Monday at Ocker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Van Buren.
She is survived by her mother, Joan Ford of Fort Smith; and her father, Jerry Stepusin of Van Buren.
The family will visit with friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Raymond Williams
MENA — Raymond Richard Wiliams, 73, of Mena died Thursday, Nov. 4, 2004, in a Fort Smith hospital. He was born Dec. 11, 1930, in Checotah, Okla. He was a business owner and attended First Assembly of God.
Graveside service was held Friday at Grannis cemetery under the direction of Hall Funeral Service of Mena.
He is survived by his wife, June; three daughters, Lynn Vanderveer and Renee Thacker, both of Mena, and Debbie Rockwell of Visalia, Calif.; two sons, Steve Williams of Visalia, Calif., and Scott Horner of Mena; two sisters, Leona Starr and Wynona Trantham, both of Bakersfield, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Patricia Gibbs
Patricia Gibbs, 61, of Mesa, Ariz., formerly of Bonanza, died Monday, Nov. 1, 2004, in Mesa. She was born June 2, 1943, in Wichita Falls, Texas, was a former employee of the city of Fort Smith and St. Edward Mercy Medical Center, attended Grace Community Church and was active in the American Cancer Society.
Funeral will be 3 p.m. today at Grace Community Church in Fort Smith with burial at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Fort Smith under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel of Fort Smith.
She is survived by a daughter, Karen Beaver of Bonanza; a son, Michael Harris of Gilbert, Ariz.; a sister, Donna Goodnight of Fort Smith; two brothers, Terry Chamberlain of Van Buren and Danny Chamberlain of Fort Smith; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Ray Goodnight, Randy Bines, Roger Beaver, Wesley Beaver, Dallas Bryan and Jody Rogers.
Honorary pallbearers will be Terry Chamberlain, Danny Chamberlain, Lester Chamberlain and Bobby Gibbs.

Mattie Helen Wilhelm
Mattie Helen Wilhelm, 85, of Fort Smith died Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2004, in a Fort Smith hospital. She was born Aug. 6, 1919, in Pittsburg community in Johnson County to Charley Brown and Ocie Mae (Hankins). She was a homemaker.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. today at First Baptist Church in Ozark with burial at Highland cemetery in Ozark with the Rev. Sam Brown officiating. Arrangements under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home of Ozark.
She is survived by two sons, David Wilhelm of Jackson, Ala., and Nelson Wilhelm of Fort Smith; daughters-in-law, Nancye Wilhelm and Elaine Wilhelm; six brothers, W.A. Brown of Ozone, Kenneth Brown of Knoxville, Ronald Brown of Bryan, Texas, Paul Brown of Wichita, Kan., Charles Brown of Lamar and Edward Brown of Lamar; grandchildren, Jason Wilhelm of Mobile, Ala., John Wilhelm of Oklahoma City and Julie Wilhelm of Fort Smith; several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will Helen’s nephews, Keith Brown, Stacy Brown, Kevin Brown, Brian Brown, Stephen Brown, Kerry Brown, David Brown, Michael Brown and Matt Brown.

Rosalie B. Stephens
Rosalie B. Stephens, 83, of Fort Smith died Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2004, in Fort Smith. She was retired from the office staff of Shipley Baking Co. and was a member of the North 50th Street Church of Christ.
She is survived by two sons, Ben Stephens and Mike Stephens along with his wife Janet, all of Fort Smith; four grandchildren, Michele Walker, Douglas Stephens, Paul Stephens and Elizabeth Wilson; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert S. Stephens.
Funeral service will today at 1 p.m. at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow at Roselawn cemetery all under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Bret Sparkman, Douglas Stephens, Paul Stephens, Bryant Walker, Bill Bateman and Bill Reather. Honorary pallbearers will be Hiland Dairy employees, the Fort Smith Police Department, Charles Stephens, Bill Pierce, Bill Robertson and David Martin.
