Fannie Greene
Fannie Greene of Fort Smith died Monday, Aug. 9, 1999, in a local hospital. She was a member of Quinn Chapel AME Church, where she was a trustee, a member of the Women’s Missionary Society and vice president of Board II. She was a retired public school teacher, a member of the Retired Teachers’ Association, City Housing Assistance Board, Westark RSVP Advisory Council and the Home Extension Club. She was a volunteer with InterFaith Pre-School, a voting poll worker and a member of the Phyllis Wheatly Federated Club.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Quinn Chapel AME Church in Fort Smith. Burial will be at National cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Rowell-Parish Mortuary of Fort Smith.
She is survived by a son, John Nix Jr. of Greenville, Texas; four sisters, Sedalia Richardson of Inglewood, Calif., Mae Coleman of Los Angeles, Mabel Ward of Texarkana, Texas, and Callie Franklin of DeQueen; a brother, J.B. Cravens of DeQueen; three grandchildren, Benjamin Keith Nix and John Morgan Nix III, both of Tulsa, and Shannon David Nix of Greenville, Texas; and four great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Doug, James and Theodore Dodson III, Almon Page, Garland Bray, Odis Pilgrim and Andre Sanders.
The body may be viewed from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Honorary pallbearers will be trustees of the church, Westark RSVP, and Retired Teachers’ Association.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Quinn Chapel AME Church or to Inter-Faith Community Center.
Betty Prophet
MOUNTAINBURG — Betty Prophet, 80, of Mountainburg died Tuesday, Aug. 10, 1999, in a local hospital. She was a retired licensed practical nurse at Sparks Regional Medical Center in Fort Smith and was the widow of Eugene L. Prophet.
Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home Chapel in Van Buren. Burial will be at National cemetery in Fort Smith.
She is survived by a daughter, Gail Jackson of Tacoma, Wash.; a son, Buddy Snodgrass of Waldron; two stepdaughters, Mary Moses and Carolyn Megar, both of Hendersonville, Tenn.; two stepsons, Charles Prophet of Mountainburg and John Prophet of Damon, Texas; a sister, Eileen Keplinger of Joseph, Ore.; 17 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Gus Xenos, Charles Pulford, David Tolliver and Charles Cranford.
Sister Michaella Hanggi
Sister Michaella Hanggi, 94, of Fort Smith died Tuesday, Aug. 10, 1999, at St. Scholastica Monastery. She was a registered nurse and made her profession of faith in Fort Smith on Aug. 24, 1926. She ministered at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Boonville, Mo., St. Anthony’s in Morrilton, St. Hildegarde’s in Clarksville and for St. Joseph’s Orphanage in North Little Rock for 35 years.
Vespers will be at 7 p.m. Friday at St. Scholastica Monastery in Fort Smith. The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday with burial in the Monastery cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Putman Funeral Home of Fort Smith.
She is survived by the sisters of her religious community; a sister, Genevieve Wilson of North Little Rock; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Pallbearers will be the sisters of her religious community.

Velma Langford
VENTURA, Calif. — Velma A. Langford, 93, of Ventura, Calif., died Monday, Aug. 9, 1999, in a local hospital. She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ.
Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Coal Hill cemetery in Coal Hill under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Alma.
She is survived by two daughters, Kaye Conley of Port Hueneme, Calif., and Faye Waterman of Ozark; a son, Jerry Morris of Los Angeles; three brothers, Joe Kyle and Chester Kyle, both of Texas, and Leslie Kyle of Florida; numerous grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
Leeora Bowlet
Leeora Bowlet, 93, of Fort Smith died Wednesday, Aug. 11, 1999, in a local nursing home. She was a Presbyterian and the widow of Conway Bowlet.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Smith. Burial will be at Woodlawn Memorial Park cemetery in Fort Smith.
She is survived by three daughters, Charlotte Dick of Greenwood and Betty Lomon and Florine Freeman, both of Fort Smith; two sons, Garland Bowlet of Van Buren and Terry Bowlet of Rudy; two sisters, Annie McDonald of Tulsa and Marie Webb of Figure Five; two brothers, Herschel Claphan of Cedarville and Melvin Claphan of Hutchinson, Kan.; numerous grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Brewer, Ted Ryder, T.J. Bowlet, Chuck Brasher, Roger Claphan and John Belcher.
S.B. Holley
FAYETTEVILLE — S.B. Holley, 89, of Fayetteville died Tuesday, Aug. 10, 1999, at a local hospital. He was born in Sallisaw and owned and operated IGA and Piggly Wiggly food stores in Fort Smith for 30 years. He owned Fabric City and co-owned Athletic World Advertising, both in Fayetteville. He was a member of Fort Smith First Methodist Church and was the widower of Vernal Holley.
Funeral will be at 9 a.m. Friday at Moore’s Chapel in Fayetteville. Burial will be at Fairview Memorial Gardens in Fayetteville.
He is survived by two daughters, Sue Ogden and Donna Trumbo, both of Fayetteville; four grandsons, Brick Ogden, Gregg Ogden and Clark Ogden and Sean Trumbo, all of Fayetteville; and three great-grandchildren.
The family will visit with friends from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

PARIS — Avious Marie Ballard, 64, of Paris died Dec. 20, 1999, in a Paris nursing home. She was a homemaker and a member of the Full Gospel Mission Church.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. today at the Full Gospel Mission Church, with burial at Prairie View cemetery in the Prairie View Community under the direction of Roberts Funeral Home of Booneville.
She is survived by two sons, Stacey Edquist of Conway and Dennis Wayne Edquist of Grand Rapids, Mich.; her mother, Geneva Lucille Pearson of Paris; one sister, Daisy Pearson of Paris; one brother, Charles Thomas Pearson of Paris; and five grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Bobby Caldwell, Wade, Arthur, Larry and Bruce Pearson and Chris Edquist.
Edward Pace
Edward C. Pace, 75, of Van Buren died Monday, Dec. 20, 1999, in a local hospital. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and the 
Korean War. He worked as a salesman in heating and air conditioning. He was a member of the American Legion in New York, the VFW and the AARP.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Ocker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel of Van Buren, with burial at the U.S. National cemetery in Fort Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Jeannette; one son, Leslie of Wagoner, Okla.; two sisters, Nancy Hauhe of California and Florence Spinoso of New York City; two granddaughters, Laurie Oswalt of Broken Arrow, Okla., and Lynn Pace of Tulsa; and one great-granddaughter.
Pallbearers will be Monroe Spencer, Marshall McGee, Harold Robbins, Jack Jones, Dudley Henderson, Al Winders and Pete Rogers.

CLARKSVILLE — Roger Dale Smith Sr., 37, of Clarksville died Sunday, Dec. 19, 1999, in a local hospital. He was the owner/operator of Smith Towing and Recovery. He was a member of the Arkansas Towing and Recovery Board.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Landmark Missionary Baptist Church, with burial at West Mount Zion cemetery in Hartman under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home of Clarksville.
He is survived by his wife, Sissy; one daughter, Trinity Smith of Clarksville; one son, Roger Jr. of Clarksville; his father, Earnest “Buck” Smith of Clarksville; his mother, Arlene Vanover of Clarksville; his grandparents, Oma Jaggers of Clarksville and Ishmal and Maggie Smith of Lamar; two sisters, Leah Bridgewater of Clarksville and Marsha Smith of Conway; one half-sister, Elizabeth Smith of Knoxville, Ark.; one brother, Michael of Clarksville; and three half-brothers, Joshua and Jamie Smith, both of Knoxville, and Phil Vanover of Clarksville.

Hermina Seiter
Hermina Leding Seiter, 85, of Fort Smith died Sunday, Dec. 19, 1999. She was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters and Catholic Knights of America. She was a graduate of St. Edward School of Nursing and a retired Registered Nurse. She was the widow of Louis Herman Seiter Sr.
Rosary will be 7:30 p.m. today at St. Boniface Catholic Church, with burial at St. Joseph cemetery in Paris under the direction of Fentress Mortuary of Fort Smith.
She is survived by five sons, Louis Herman Seiter Jr. of College Station, Texas, Anthony Julian Seiter of Dallas, Thomas James Seiter of Houston, Dr. Kenneth Paul Seiter of Fort Smith and James Joseph Seiter of Broken Arrow, Okla.; 12 grandchildren, Geralyn Seiter and Maria Seiter, both of Bryan, Texas, Jeanne Frasier of Katy, Texas, Telisa Conlin of Dallas, John, Caroline, Becky and T.J. Seiter, all of Houston, Jason and Kenneth Seiter Jr., both of Miami, Fla., Melissa and Laura Seiter, both of Broken Arrow; and two great-grandchildren.

Norma “Granny” Watson, 74, of Alma died Sunday, Dec. 19, 1999, at her home. She was a homemaker, a member of Maple Shade Church of the Nazarene in Alma and taught Sunday School for 11 years. She was the widow of Billy E. Watson.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. today in Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home Chapel of Van Buren, with burial at Newberry cemetery in Alma.
She is survived by one daughter, Pat Secrest of Rudy; two sons, Edwin and Donnie, both of Rudy; four sisters, Fern Taylor of Fort Smith, Mary Gilliam of Moffett, Betty Sue Robinson of Broken Arrow, Okla., and Dorcie Lee Runyon of Mount Pleasant, Iowa; two brothers, Turner and Burrell Stallings, both of Oklahoma City; seven grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Billy Don Watson Jr., David Stogsdill, Stacy Sangster, Eb Shepherd, David Albers and Randy Graper.

RIVERSIDE, Calif. — Mildred Lorene Kaczyk, 73, of Riverside, Calif., died Saturday, Dec. 18, 1999. She was a homemaker.

She is survived by two daughters, Mildred Farris of Riverside and Merry Ogletree of Poteau; two sons, John of San Angelo, Texas, and Mark of Winters, Texas; four sisters, Betty L. Miskelly of Choctaw, Okla., Susie Jones of Eufaula, Okla., Melba Jo Coyle of Tehachati, Calif., and Billie Jean Lewis of Tulsa; four brothers, Harold Stephens of Del City, Okla., John and Joe Stephens, both of Shady Point, and Stanford Stephens of Choctaw; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Charles Holcombe
Charles E. Holcombe, 71, of Fort Smith died Monday, Dec. 20, 1999, in Fort Smith. He was a member of Midland Heights United Methodist Church, a retired Army veteran after 22 years of service and a retired ROTC instructor with the Van Buren and Fort Smith public school systems after 10 years.
Graveside service will be 12:30 p.m. Thursday at the U.S. National cemetery in Fort Smith with full military honors. Arrangements are under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home of Fort Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; two daughters, Debra Bailes of Oklahoma City and Sheila Brady of Shell Knob, Mo.; four sons, Chuck of Fort Smith, Alan of Oklahoma City, Bill of Memphis, Tenn., and Dennis Meeks of Eureka Springs; three sisters, Patsy McNew and Patty Hudson, both of Little Rock, and Doris Neihouse of Fort Smith; one brother, Pete of Santa Rosa, Calif.; 14 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

CEDARVILLE — Bertha Goss, 78, of Cedarville died Tuesday, Dec. 21, 1999, in a local hospital. She was a member of the Cedarville Assembly of God and a homemaker. She was the widow of Dennis Goss.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Cedarville Assembly of God, with burial at Macedonia cemetery, near Uniontown, under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
She is survived by three daughters, Mary Ramsey of Van Buren, Linda Stockton of Cedarville and Ruth Wise of Barling; one son, William of New Blaine; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
